Cobra inwardly groaned, even though he knew minutes ago that this would be her answer. He knew they were the "love" doctors, but still...
"Well, I can't say that's all that surprising given your position, but would you be so kind as to further elaborate on your answer?"
"Certainly!" Lucy said. "And I'll have you know that, even if this wasn't my current job, I'd still come to the same conclusion."
Cobra looked away from his partner as she started explaining. The inherent embarrassment prickled his skin as she spoke.
"You see, I did say 'love' but I don't really mean just the kinds of love we advertise to help here. I grew up rather, er, extremely sheltered. I didn't have any friends, my family wasn't always around, and the only people I had to play with usually were busy with other things.
"Then, I moved away from home and became part of a…group. Everyone there was so much different than what I was used to. They were loud, crude, didn't understand my sex appeal, and they were always, always fighting. Even though it was part of my dream to join them, when I first arrived, I really thought they might accidentally kill me.
"Then, slowly but surely, they became an irreplaceable part of my life. As time went on, I began to realize that even with all of them being so different and butting heads so often, it was their love for each other that made it so they could fight so hard and yet still care so deeply for each other. That's why I said 'love', not in a romantic sense per se, but a love that says no matter what, you have that other person's back."
