It was then Cobra realized he still hadn't brought up what happened the other day, when painful memories of her flooded into him relentlessly. It was right after he'd brought up finding a job. Curiosity scratched at him, like a cat whose nails had grown just a bit too sharp for their own good.

It was a perfect time. They were walking together down an uncrowded street (bless the demon for at least having the foresight to pick a less populated district) and felt even more alone with her than when they were in that room together. He would be able to hear anything she said, even at a mere whisper, and from his own experience at the guild, she had no trouble picking up on soft voices either.

So then why…

"Well, my place is just down the way. I assume you'll want to get back before too long. I'll see you tomorrow?" A smile graced her lips. He shifted in place.

"…Yeah, see you." He paused as he watched her take off down a separate road. Once she looked back to smile and wave at him. He gave a faint wave back. Then she was gone. Cobra shoved his hands into his pockets and scowled.

Idiot. You could have, but…

Thoughts churning at the surprising display of cowardice, Cobra grumbled internally at himself as he stalked his way down the slow street. Then he turned a corner and full-body collided with another person.
