JANUARY OF 1976. THE GENERAL LEE DOESN'T EXIST QUITE YET. THEY GET HIM IN JUNE. NONE OF THEIR BIRTHDAYS HAVE COME YET, SEEING AS HOW IT IS ONLY JANUARY, SO LUKE IS 19, DAISY 18, AND BO 17. USING THEIR ACTORS B-DAYS, THEY ARE ALL BORN AFTER JANUARY: LUKE IN SEPTEMBER, DAISY IN MARCH, AND BO IN APRIL. AND I ALSO DON'T OWN THE DUKES OF HAZZARD, JUST IN CASE U WERE INTERESTED. ANYWAY I'LL SHUT MY YAP NOW AND GET ON WITH THE STORY.
School had just gotten out and Bo had met up with Luke in town at Cooter's garage.
"How was school, Bo?" Luke asked him as he arrived at the garage.
"No better than usual." Bo hated school, as most teens his age did. He was thankful that this was his senior year: after this, no more schooling ever again.
"Who gave you that?" Luke pointed to a small bruise that shined under Bo's left eye.
"Just Ben, I handled him." Bo assured him.
"Who started it?" Luke persisted.
"James." Bo picked up a tool to fidget with.
"How could James start a fight between you and Ben?" Luke looked at him.
"Ben took my inhaler and he wouldn't give it back. James tried to take care of it, but you know how he fights so, I had to help him out." Bo explained.
"How did Bed get ahold of something that you're s'posed to keep in your pocket at all times?" Luke asked him.
"I was using it and he pulled it outta my hand." Bo explained.
"Why that low down..." Luke started off as if he was about to go find Ben and beat some sense into him, only to be interrupted by a hand on his shoulder.
"I'm standing here breathing, ain't I? There's no problem, me and James took care of him." Bo smiled.
"That's very mature of you, Bo." Luke smiled at him.
"Look who my example is." Bo winked at him and headed over next to Cooter to see what was up.
"Who does this heap belong to?" Bo gestured to the AMC Pacer that Cooter was working on.
"Old man Farley just bought it offa Boss Hogg." Cooter replied from under the car.
"Poor old man Farley!" Bo laughed.
"I know right." Cooter chuckled.
"Why don't he get a nice car, like a Torino or a Charger? He's got a good deal of money from that inheritance." Bo reasoned.
"He don't know shucks about cars so it was easy for Boss Hogg to snooker him." Cooter replied.
"You really want a Charger, don't you, Bo?" Luke chuckled has he stepped over to the car.
"So what if I do? We've been building that dang engine for God knows how long, all we need is a car to put it in." Bo loved cars just as much as Luke did, if not more.
"If we're gonna get a Charger it's gonna be an old one. Lord knows, we can't afford no new car." Luke told him.
"Well, maybe we can get a late 60's one." Bo suggested.
"Bo, the engine ain't even done yet, and we can't be picky and choosy about what kind of car we want, with our budget." Luke chuckled, he remembered being Bo's age: nothing that he wanted was impossible, within logic of course... most of the time. How'd the song go?: "Dreams don't die when there's fire in a young mans eyes?"
"That don't mean I don't want a new car!" Bo laughed.
"You can want all you like, cuz, but gettin' is a whole other thing." Luke put a hand on his shoulder.
"I know it." Bo knew that they would never be able to get a new car, since they had been busted and forced out of the Duke family shine business.
"We'd better get on home and mend that fence 'fore uncle Jesse gets mad." Luke suggested.
"Alright. See ya later, Cooter." Bo ran out to the truck: he wanted to drive.
"Catcha later, Cooter." Luke started to leave.
"Adios." Cooter waved from underneath the car.
"Hit it, Bo." Luke said as he shut the door.
"Ya think we could afford to put off that fence mending one more day?" Bo asked hopefully.
"We've been shuckin' and jivin' uncle Jesse about that fence for three days now." Luke replied.
"I reckon you're right." Bo sighed.
"You ain't usually lazy, are you-"
"Okay?" Bo finished Luke's question for him, and then added (along with a little chuckle): "I'm fine."
When they arrived at the farm, Jesse was waiting for them where they usually parked their truck.
"You boys get to that fence today." Jesse ordered.
"Yes sir, we will." Bo promised as they headed into the house. Bo put his school stuff away and then they both headed out to fix the fence.
After they had been working for a few hours, they ran out of staples for the chicken wire.
"Bo, run into town and get some more, I'll stay here and do some of the chores so we don't get too behind." Luke suggested.
Bo took off and headed for town, but before he reached town, he saw some heavies ruffin' up Lulu Hogg. They had run her off the road and were planning to kid-napp her.
There was no time for sneaking up, Bo ran as fast as he could and tackled one of the gunmen. Lulu got in her car and CB'd her brother Rosco to report everything to him and to get help for Bo.
For a seventeen-year-old kid against three goons, Bo handled himself pretty well, until one of them picked the gun up off the ground and put it to his head. In the struggle, two of their ski-masks had come off, revealing their faces.
"Get in the car, sod buster!" The gunman shoved him into their car.
"Why don't we just waste him right here?" The other asked.
"Don't be stupid, the law will be coming around any minute now. The fat lady called them in." He got in the car and they took off.
"What's your name, kid?" The gunman next to him asked him.
"That ain't none of your business." Bo snapped back.
"Listen to me, rube!" He grabbed Bo by his hair. "You tell me what your name is, or I'm gonna stop being so nice!"
"What do you need my name for?" Bo shouted.
"Fine, if you're gonna be like that." He backhanded him across the face. "Now, what's your name, plowboy?"
"If I ain't got no reason to tell you, then I ain't gonna tell you." Bo snorted.
"Alright kid, alright. Have it your way." The man put his gun up to Bo's head. "Do you think that's reason enough?"
"My name's Duke." Bo mumbled.
"Duke what?"
"Bo Duke." mumbled the reply.
"Alright, Bo Duke. We're gonna take you back to Atlanta with us and we're gonna find a safe place to waste you." He smiled coldy.
"I say we keep him." The driver suggested.
"And just why?"
"Because we can use him for things: moving stuff around, driving, decoying, punching bag..."
"I ain't nobody's punching bag." Bo shouted.
"You are now." The man next to him punched him first in the stomach and then in the face.
"Jim, you just keep driving this thing. The faster we get to Atlanta the better. We need to make a score soon, and this kid might be the key." The man ordered.
"I ain't helping you with nothing!" Bo shouted.
"You will." Billy, the man sitting next to him, said, as he punched him in the face several times.
"Hey, don't be so rough on the kid!" Lenny, the ugly in the passenger seat piped up.
"I can do whatever I want!" Billy was the boss, and he didn't take kindly to being told what to do.
"Not to me!" Bo had had enough. He punched Billy in the face several times, stopping only when he felt a gun on his temple.
"You behave yourself, blondie." Billy gritted his teeth, before putting his fists back into action and punching Bo several more times.
"Hey, don't kill him, we need him to do stuff for us." Jim looked back at Billy.
"A good beating never killed anyone." Billy grinned.
Once they arrived in Atlanta, Bo was hand cuffed to a metal table that was bolted to the ground of their hideout: an old car garage.
"What's your trade, blondie?" Billy paced around the table.
"I ain't gone one." Bo replied, he wasn't about to hold a conversation with this ugly.
"Oh, that's right, you just plow fields." Billy laughed.
"My cousins and my uncle are gonna come after you." Bo threatened.
"They don't know where you are, now do they?" Billy smiled. That thought hadn't occurred to Bo.
"Uh, Billy, the cars not running so great I think we should..." Jim started, only to be interrupted by a slap in the face from Billy.
"Stupid! I told you to fix it last week!" Billy shouted, slapping him again.
"Hey, don't hit me, use the human punching bag." Jim gestured to Bo.
"Oh yeah, the batteries included real life sound effects human punching bag..." Billy curled his hands into fists.
"Come on, Billy, don't beat the kid. Beat me instead, alright?" Lenny stepped up.
"I will do what I want!" Billy slapped Lenny before taking his fists to the defenseless kid that was cuffed to a table.
