The sound of a alarm clock caused Ash to wake up with a start and jump out of his bed. He stretched his arms and legs to prepare for his journey.
"It's for the best that I set my alarm clock for 7 in the morning otherwise I would be in big trouble." He told himself.
He removed his pajamas and put on the outfit he was going to wear today. Ash then walked down the stairs to the first level of the house he and his mother lived in.
As soon as he made it downstairs, he saw his mother in the kitchen. She had prepared a large breakfast for the start of her son's journey.
"Are you ready to go on a journey today?" Delia asked.
"I certainly am mom." Ash answered her with a smile.
They sat down at the kitchen table to have breakfast. When they were finished, Ash headed out the front door and to Prof. Oak's lab.
Once there he knocked on the door.
"Professor, I'm here to get a starter Pokemon."
"Follow me." He motioned to Ash.
Ash walked into the lab. Three Poke Balls were on a desk.
"What starter Pokemon do you want?" Prof. Oak asked.
"A Charmander." Ash replied.
Prof. Oak had a sad expression on his face.
"Unfortunately, Charmander has already been chosen by another trainer." He explained.
"I see." Ash nodded. "Well, what about Bulbasaur?"
"Sorry, Bulbasaur is gone." Prof. Oak shook his head in disappointment.
"I know you still have Squirtle."
"Squirtle was chosen by my grandson Gary."
Ash was starting to worry now.
"Do you have any Pokemon left?" He asked in a panic.
"Well..." Prof. Oak briefly trailed off. "This Pokemon isn't the most ideal choice for beginning trainers."
He opened the fourth Poke Ball up and a small yellow mouse emerged.
"This is Pikachu, a electric type Pokemon. It has a volatile temper."
Ash took Pikachu's Poke Ball and clipped it to his belt. Pikachu then hopped onto his shoulder as Ash left the lab.
Ash and Pikachu headed to Route 1 which led to Viridian City.
A mile up the road, a red-haired girl had placed a fishing rod into the river hoping to catch something.
As Ash got closer to the entrance, the girl let out a scream.
"Excuse me, are you alright?" A concerned Ash asked as he made his way over to her.
"No, I'm scared out of my mind." The girl responded.
"I'm just asking a question. No need to bite my head off." Ash sweat dropped.
"Sorry about that." She apologized. "I had a bad experience with Gyarados once and they freak me out."
"Now that you mention it, don't Gyarados have an explosive temper. My name's Ash." Ash introduced himself.
"I'm Misty. Nice to meet you." Misty proceeded to shake his hand.
"Hey, I have to ask. Do you know where Viridian City is?"
"Of course. Just head down that road and you'll get there in no time."
"Thank you." Ash bowed.
He and Pikachu then went on their way.
'What a polite young boy.' Misty thought.
Ash soon saw Viridian City in the distance while standing on top of a hill. Before heading down the hill, he spotted a Pokemon flying across the sky. It was a red and white bird with yellow tail feathers. The bird was closely followed by a green dragon with yellow markings and three clawed hands.
"What are those Pokemon?" Ash had never seen either of these Pokemon before.
"Would Prof. Oak have an idea on what those are." Ash and Pikachu walked down the hill.
