The Battles Must Carry On
"That was an extremely disgraceful performance, Shoto." Was the first thing that Endeavor told his son breaking the silence between them. The boy scoffed and looked away as the man carried on, "You could have won both events if only you have used your fire." The man shook his head, "I can understand the second event given the tactic the girl used, but the first one; you were beaten by people who have quirks way beneath you; hand enlargement, merging with black colored objects, size manipulation… Have you no shame in your body to be defeated by such weaklings."
The boy growled at his father, "I don't need your fire. I can make it fine just with my mom's ice. Move away from here. I have a match I need to go to." He tried to go, but his father blocked his way.
The man glares down at the boy asking him, "When will this little rebellion of yours end, Shoto? Why won't you understand that you're my masterpiece; the perfect child. When will you accept your destiny to surpass All Might?" the boy pushed him away as Endeavor said his final piece, "No matter how much you hate me Shoto, even you know that this fire is a part of you that you can't ignore forever. And one day, you'll be the first to see that your ice has its limitations and it will fail you eventually." And with that, the hero left leaving Shoto boiling with anger at his words.
'I'll prove to you that I don't need your damned fire, you bastard. I just need mom's ice.' The boy thought angrily as he walked to the arena. The boy then remembered Izuku's words from earlier and began to shake his head saying, 'I don't need his flames. I'll be a fine hero with mom's ice only. I'll prove to that bastard by defeating Midoriya that I don't need his fire.' Shoto had a very dark look on his face, as the lights from the outside made their way to him.
Back in 1-B's booth, everyone was cheering Tetsu for his victory, as Awase said, "Dude, that was fucking awesome. I mean how you suddenly become even stronger; that was the real shi…" the foul-mouthed boy was silenced when Ibara whipped him with her vines causing the boy to whimper and apologize eliciting a few sweat-drops from their classmates as they thought, 'Man, they seem like a married couple or something.' Ibara didn't know why, but she suddenly felt a small blush make it to her face.
Izuku made his way to the metal boy, "Wow Tetsu, that was really amazing, so I take that you took my advice about eating other metals to see if you can manifest them." The metal boy nodded his head with a smile as Izuku began scribbling in his notebook like a madman talking about the possibilities of Tetsu's new ability.
The class sweat-drop at the sudden appearance of the notebook, as Setsuna asks him, "Greenie, I have to know where your notebook come from? Where do you hide it?" the boy shrugged as he opened his P.E. jacket showing her a small hidden pocket inside it. The girl surprised checks hers and finds the same thing. The entire class laughs awkwardly at how they didn't notice this till now.
Present Mic then yelled through the speakers, "Welcome back folks to the sports festival after this erhm… entertaining match…" the voice hero said causing both the metal and rock boy to feel depressed, "And let's move onto the fourth match of the first round, on one corner we have the boy who has a very plain face and most likely a very plain life, 1-A's knock-off spiderman, give it up to Hanta Sero." The boy came to the arena and he said, "This was really uncool." "On the other side, we have the recommendation student, the apple of Endeavor's eye, the prince of ice himself, Shoto Todoroki." The boy came on the stage with a very huge scowl as he looked at his opponent.
Midnight looks at both boys announcing the rules, "Listen here boys, I want a fair fight, do you both understand?" both of them nod, but Shoto wasn't focusing too much, and she doesn't seem to notice, "Now both begin."
Sero smiles as he says, "I don't feel that I can win against you," he then sends two strands of tape from his elbows that bound Shoto as he added, "But I also don't feel like losing." he began to swing him around. Everyone in both classes was shocked that Todoroki may be defeated easily, but they were mistaken.
Shoto then says, "I'm sorry in advance," Hanta tilts his head in confusion as he sees Shoto freeing himself, and then slams his leg on the ground, and something horrifying happens. An iceberg encapsulates half of the stadium. In the commentator's booth, both Mic and Aizawa were shell-shocked at the power displayed in front of them, and so were the other heroes.
In 1-B's booth, Awase pats both Tetsu's and Izuku's backs saying, "Bad luck guys, but maybe you'll be able to do it next year." Both of them looked at him confused as he asks, "You don't honestly believe that you can beat a monster like that. he froze half of the stadium."
Izuku shakes his head, "That's not a factor. You should look at it objectively; both I and Tetsu have perfect counters to his quirk. For example, Tetsu's metal can resist cold weather and heat. And mine can release strong winds that can destroy the ice and blow away fire, so we have the best chance of actually winning against him."
The bandana-wearing boy blinked as he said, "Huh, so what do you know? You do stand a chance against him." he rubs the back of his head saying, "Sorry for doubting you guys."
Back in the arena, Sero is frozen inside an icy coffin, as a half-frozen Midnight asks him, "Sero, be honest with me; can you move at all?" the boy looked at her, raising his an eyebrow as if he was asking her if she was kidding. The heroine then stuttered, "T-The winner o-of this m-match is T-Todoroki."
The dual-haired boy then began to walk toward the frozen boy as he said, "I'm sorry," he then puts his hand on the iceberg, and heat begins to emit from it, "I was a little bit irritated." Sero was then freed from his icy prison as he looks back at the ice boy, and says in shock, "If that was when you're a little mad, I don't want to see you when you're actually angry."
Someone from the arena suddenly yells at Sero, "Don't feel bad about it. it was a nice try." Others began to yell the same thing not knowing that were making the boy more depressed than anything else.
They then both walked away from the arena as Mic said, "Excuse us folks, but we'll come back to the festival when we clean up the arena."
It took about half-hour, but finally, the arena was finally cleared for the matches to continue as Mic roared through the speakers, "Welcome back to the sports festival ladies and gentlemen, we had a small break to clear the remnants of the iceberg we saw formed in the previous match, but now we can carry on." The voice hero then added, "From one side, we have the king of shadows himself, the living embodiment of the old saying 'two heads are better than one', give a loud round of applause for 1-A's Fumikage Tokoyami." The bird-headed boy entered the arena, "Revelry in the dark." "On the other side of the spectrum, we have the king of knives, his blades are so sharp that he even can cut air itself, let's hear it for 1-B's Togaru Kamakiri." The boy scoffed, "Stop kissing my ass, will you?"
Back in 1-B's booth, everyone was intrigued by the match, since it seemed the blade user had picked a short stick when it came to his match since his opponents didn't have an obvious weakness. It made them feel worried for their friend since it seemed that his chances of winning the match are zero-to-none at all.
Tokage looked at Izuku, "So greenie, what are the chances of Mohawk down there winning the fight?" the green-haired boy ran his hand through his hair, "Hmm, well from here it seems that his chances are really slim. I mean I can't find an obvious weakness on Tokoyami from him to exploit…" this caused everyone to feel a bit down, but Izuku then added, "But I feel there is a slither of hope that he may be able to win this fight…"
The lizard girl quirked her eyebrow as she asked, "What is that hope?"
The boy answered her, "Judging from the race and the cavalry battle, I saw that Tokoymi's fighting style mostly depends on dark shadow doing all the work, while he merely waits. This itself is a weak point that if exploited carefully could mean victory for Kamakiri, but at the end of the day, it depends on how Kamakiri manages to fight him."
Back in the arena, Kamakiri stood on the opposite end from his opponent eying him, 'Hmm, how can I defeat him? his quirk doesn't have an obvious weakness. I can punch it, but I'm sure as heck that my blades can't hurt it.' The boy sweat-dropped, 'How does that work? How can I punch his quirk, but can't cut it? This seems a little bit unfair.'
Midnight looked at both, and said, "I don't want anything that might threaten both of your lives, get it?" the boys nodded their heads as Midnight lifted her whip, and brought it back down yelling, "And fight."
Kamakiri then quickly charged at the boy as Tokoyami yelled, "Dark Shadow." The shadowy bird emerged from the bird-headed boy's chest saying, "On it, boss." The shadowy bird lunged at Kamakiri who popped two blades from his forearms and jumped trying to slice it just to see if it had any effect only for his blades to pass through it with the being saying, "Yeah, sorry dude, but that doesn't work on me."
The shadowy bird tried to grab him only for the bug boy to kick his hands away and punch his head as Dark Shadow whined in pain looking at the boy in anger and said, "Okay, no more mister nice guy. Come here." The shadowy being began to lunge at Kamakiri as the boy jumped from side to side, but that didn't mean he didn't notice how Tokoyami was just standing there, 'I see it now. While his quirk does handle most of his work, he just stands there. This means I have to find a way to bypass his quirk, but how can I do that? The thing is impervious to my attacks, and is very quick; I can barely keep up.'
Mic's voice came from the speakers as he said, "Well, well, look at that. it seems that Tokoyami is giving Kamakiri a really hard time. Dark Shadow is going medieval on him; he can barely keep up with him. will this be the end of the blade boy? What do you think, Eraser?"
Eraserhead looked at the mic in front of him, "I think that Kamakiri chose the short end of the stick. Dark shadow doesn't have any traditional weakness. While he can hit him, his quirk can't affect him in any way or form possible. He will eventually be pushed out or tired, though it's still too soon to say what will happen; conditions do change at the end of the road."
Mic then added, "Well, you heard folks. Kamakiri's chances of victory are very slim, but could he be able to turn the table around and beat Tokoyami?"
Down in the arena, Kamakiri growled as he dodged yet another attack, "Shut up, you overrated radio station host." He looked and saw that the shadowy bird was about to hit him, and he wasn't able to dodge, so he popped a blade from his arm to block, but suddenly the bird yelled, "Hey, dude what the hell? That hurts you jerk."
Back in 1-A's booth, everyone was shocked that the bug boy managed to hurt dark shadow, as Tsuyu asked, "Does anyone know what he did to hurt dark shadow? It seems quite impossible to hurt him." The others shook their head as one person looked and nodded this information for later.
Back in 1-B's booth, Izuku looked at the arena as he said, "So that is his weakness?" everyone looked at him, "What happened down there is as followed; Kamakiri used his quirk to summon a blade. This caused the sunlight to reflect on it and hit Dark Shadow. It kinda makes sense that dark shadow's weakness is light given that he's a shadow at the end of the day." Everyone nodded amazed at his quirk analysis skills. 'Mental note; never piss off Midoriya. We're sure that he can take us out with a fork and a rubber band.' This was the thought that raced through everyone's mind.
In the field, Kamakiri looked in shock at the moaning dark shadow as he asked himself, "What just happened? He didn't even touch me for me to inflict damage on him." he then jumped away from an attack from the shadowy monster who recovered, 'Something managed to weaken it. Think what happened when I popped my blade.'
He then jumped away from another blow and managed to kick the shadowy monster in his face causing him to back away. The bug boy kept up as he sent a punch to its head as Tokoyami yelled, "Dark Shadow, be careful." The shadowy bird then punched him in the gut sending him flying to the other end of the field inches away from exiting the arena.
The bug boy growled as he held his stomach in pain. He then saw dark shadow lunging toward him, and he didn't have time to jump away so he crossed his arms making two blades, but he was shocked when Dark Shadow yelled again in pain. He looked and saw two beams of light reflecting off his blade and hitting the shadowy monster. He smirked, 'Got you now.'
Dark Shadow backed away to escape, but Kamakiri yelled, "Where you going, dude? Don't tell me you're afraid of a small beam of light? When happened to that macho attitude of yours?" the boy added another blade and put them in such a way that the reflection hit dark shadow directly causing to yell in pain and beg him to stop.
Mic then exclaimed, "What the heck is happening? Why is Dark Shadow running away from the fight? Come on my feathery fellow, fight back."
Eraser looked with an unimpressed look at his friend, "It seems that Kamakiri managed to find a way to harm dark shadow. And it seems that it's working given that dark shadow's size is beginning to decrease."
In the teacher's booth, Vlad cheered on, "SHOW THEM KAMAKIRI. SHOW THEM WHO ARE CLASS 1-B," he wiped a tear away, "I'M SO PROUD RIGHT NOW."
From 1-B's booth, several sweat-drops could be seen forming on the students' heads as they heard their teacher cheer them on, 'Man, Vlad-sensei is happy today. Glad we didn't hold back this like what was initially suggested.' In class 1-B, before the festival by one day, a couple of students suggested that the class holds back, so they can observe the competition, but multiple people refused given that it would not only keep the light on 1-A, but also there is no guarantee that they might pass through the second round, so it was quickly scraped away.
Back with Kamakiri, the boy redirected sunlight to Dark Shadow's eyes causing it to grow a little bit smaller, 'I see that every time it's hit, it grows even smaller; must be a byproduct from it being a living shadow. More light means less shadow, so it has a limit before it's forced back into Tokoyami.'
He looked at his opponent's eyes and saw that he was panicking which confirmed his initial observation that while dark shadow does the heavy lifting, he is the one giving commands, and he doesn't know much about fighting without his quirk. The boy looked at Dark Shadow who lunged at him preparing a fist only for said attack to stop when Kamakiri made two blades directing more sunlight onto Dark Shadow before jumping and kicking its head.
The living shadow looked at him asking meekly, "Can't we solve this peacefully without using sunlight?" it chuckled a little, "I mean we're both mature adults who can talk their problems out." the reply was a kick to the face sending it back to Tokoyami who checked on his partner and long-time friend, "Dark Shadow, are you alright?"
The sentient shadow cried out in pain, "The sunlight, Fumi. It hurts so much." The feathered-headed boy cursed his luck. His opponent discovered his only weakness through sheer coincidence, and now he's capitalizing it to the fullest and he can't blame him; he would've done the same thing to ensure victory.
"Dark shadow, can you fight on?" the feathered boy asked his shadowy friend. The shadowy being nodded its head meekly before lifting up and lunging toward Kamakiri. It was now the size of a common house dog contrary to the size of the bus that it was originally like. Suddenly, it felt its power coming back to it with Kamakiri's expression becoming that of shock.
Dark Shadow looked to the sky, and saw the clouds blocking the sun. he looked back at the bug boy who only sighed, "I've done enough damage to you now, and I'm sure you can't recover that quickly. Now, I only need to bypass you to get to birdy over there." He finished as he pointed to Tokoyami who was sweating slightly given that the words that Kamakiri has just spoken were true.
Dark shadow puffed his chest saying, "Well, l like you said you have to pass me, and that's easier said than done." Both of them lunged at each other.
Kamakiri growing tired of this battle merely kicked dark shadow in the side swatting it away as he made a beeline to Tokoyami, but dark shadow returned and tripped him as he said, "I won't let you hurt, Fumi." Kamakiri had to admit that he respected the trust both had for each other, but it was not the time for this.
He kicked the shadow away before jumping toward Tokoyami with Dark Shadow on their tail. The three collided with each other forming a small dust cloud. When the dust settled, it showed Togaru holding Fumikage by the beak and pinning him to the ground with a blade dangerously close to his neck while Dark Shadow was under his foot. "Do you give up?" the bug boy asked.
Fumikage sighed; he was proud of his work, but it seems that his journey here came to an end, "I give up. I can't fight you anymore." The boy watched as his opponent backed away before saying, "You were good, but you need to also train your body, because today it was me, tomorrow it will be a villain."
The red-eyed student blinked in surprise before smiling and saying, "Thank you for your advice. I will take it into consideration when I look for an internship." He then put out his hand and said, "It's been an honor fighting you." Kamakiri took his hand and shook it, "Same here."
Midnight then said, "What passion! It drives me so much! It even turns me on!" both boys shivered as she looked at them and licked her lips, "But as you saw people Tokoyami has forfeited the match, so Togaru of class 1-B will carry on to the finals."
Both boys then went back to their booths, but when Togaru entered, he was bombarded by people congratulating him on his win. He scoffed, "Please as if there was ever a chance for me to lose this fight. I bet you all thought that I was going to lose." When he saw the dumbfounded looks and heard someone whisper something along the lines of 'How did he find out', he exploded, "What kind of shitty faith is that? what happened to having faith in our classmates? You didn't see me doubt your victory." Everyone then laughed at him as he took his seat grumbling about how no one believed in him.
Awase then said, "Hey where's Shiozaki? I wanted to wish her good luck before she goes to her match." Everyone sweat-dropped as they themselves didn't notice the girl's absence till now.
Izuku replied, "Well, I saw her leave the booth to go to the waiting room, so she can prepare for her match. She's the sixth match after all." The bandana-wearing boy frowned as he sat down with Shishida patting his back saying that he'll do it next time.
Everyone looked down and saw that the match was about to begin as the two competitors emerged from their tunnels.
Down in the arena, Present Mic's voice boomed through the sound system of the stadium, "Hello people, welcome back to the sports festival. A few minutes ago, we had a very exciting fight, and now we have the sixth match of the day," the voice hero smiled at the cheers he received from the people while Eraser rolled his eyes, "On one end, we have the silent assassin of the green, she's the living representation of a delicate flower with thorns, let's hear some love for 1-B's Ibara Shiozaki," the waved to the girl, but she frowned at being called an assassin; she had to remedy that, "On the other end, we have a mean speed kicking machine, he would give sonic the hedgehog a run for his money, give it up for Tenya Iida of 1-A." the boy bowed for the masses, "Now let's see some…"
"Excuse me" the voice hero stopped when Shiozaki spoke up, "May I acquire about why you called me an 'assassin', even though I'm here just to win not kill my opponent." The girl clasped her hands together, "I came here to U.A. to become a hero and to help the less fortunate not to become hurt people. God knows that those are my intentions." A heavenly light then pierced the sky as it shone over Shiozaki's figure.
Before Present Mic can say anything, Iida interjected while making a chopping motion with his hands, "I have to agree Mic-sensei that calling Shiozaki an 'assassin' may reflect badly on her internship results, so I highly recommend you fix this issue."
Back in 1-B's booth, Awase smirked, "Watch this" His classmates looked at him intrigued even though some knew that he was about to do something extremely stupid. He took a deep breath and yelled, "Yeah, Present Mic, how dare you call Shiozaki an assassin? She one's of the nicest people that I ever met, and can't harm even a fly. Apologize to her."
The voice hero much to the erasure hero's amusement fumbled trying to fix the situation, "Okay, I'm sorry. I didn't mean it like that. I apologize for any harm that I've done. Can we please move on with the fights?"
Shiozaki nodded her head and turned toward Iida saying, "Thank you for protecting my name, Iida." The bespectacled boy merely smiled at her.
Midnight who was still chuckling at the entire thing looked at the two contestants, and said, "Listen, kids, I don't want anything that may threaten any of your lives, and make sure that the fight is fair and clean." Both teens nodded their heads as Midnight lifted her whip and brought it back down yelling, "Begin."
Shiozaki then saw Iida crouch down on the ground confusing her. She then remembered what he did during the cavalry battle, and she knew that he wants to end the fight quickly by maybe pushing her outside the ring. She readied herself to stop him as he yelled, "Recpiro Burst."
The boy blasted quickly toward Shiozaki. His plan was simple; it was to speed past her, grab her shoulders and push her outside the ring. He managed to carry on the first part of his plan bypassing Shiozaki and standing behind her. His plan fell apart when he tried to grab her. The moment he turned an enormous wall of vines emerged from the ground pushing Iida away from her. The speed teen blinked in confusion as he went and kicked away some of the plants, and looked to find her. he finally found her trying the same method, but the girl once again erected a vine wall.
Mic's voice echoed throughout the stadium as he said, "Well, it seems that the speedster of class 1-A is having trouble grabbing the green-vined girl of 1-B. every time he comes near her, she puts up a wall that blocks him. it seems that the match become a game of mouse and cat."
Eraser added, "It seems that Shiozaki knows that she can't hope to match Iida's speed. I think her strategy is to either cause him to be tired out or manage to let him drop down his guard to catch him and threw him out. both are quite smart, however, it mostly depends on Iida failing to catch her. In other words, she playing a time game that may cost her in the end."
In 1-B's booth, Izuku was rubbing his chin, "Hmm, this match is hard for Shiozaki to win, but still she can manage it. Iida's speed is quite hard to counter with her quirk given that her vines can't travel as fast as Iida's legs. She can only hope to block him before he manages to catch her, or use her vines as an anchor to prevent Iida from dragging her outside the ring."
Awase asked him, "Midoriya, how high are her chances of Shiozaki beating speedy down there?"
Izuku scratched his head, "Well, her chances are pretty high, if she thinks outside the box, and manages to trick Iida into getting captured or throw him himself outside the ring." He then added, "But at the same time, it's still hard to beat him given different circumstances that she needs to bypass other than Iida's speed." This caused some of his classmates to wonder what he was talking about.
"Dude, what are you talking about? Shouldn't Iida be the only obstacle that can prevent her from winning?" Awase asked as his classmate shook his head confusing his classmate even further.
Izuku explained, "We all know that Shiozaki is highly religious, right?" everyone nodded their heads, "So this means that she comes with a moral religious compass, but the thing with Shiozaki is that sometimes her moral compass clashes with her actions. Imagine needing to outsmart a villain, if it was me or any of you, we might scheme to defeat, but if it was Shiozaki…"
Itsuka completed his sentence by saying, "…she might feel conflicted given that scheming feels villainous to her, and she might have a hard time doing it…"
Izuku nodded his head as he remembered a discussion he had with her a week before the festival.
A week before the sports festival, Izuku was given a break from Gran Torino's torture sessions. He walked a little before flopping near a rock. Someone then said, "Hard day." He jumped a little when he saw Shiozaki who quickly apologized to him saying, "I didn't mean to scare you, Midoriya. I'm sorry." The boy waved her off telling her it wasn't a big deal.
He then asked, "So how's training going with you?" the boy tried to open conservation. The girl looked at him and sighed causing him to panic thinking that he did something to annoy the girl.
Ibara replied, "It's good, but I don't know. Vlad-sensei is always telling me that I shouldn't allow my beliefs to hold me back. That one day, I might cause my own downfall if I don't know when to think outside the box." The boy tilted his head wondering what she meant. The girl saw this and explained to him, "You know that I'm a Christian right?" the boy nodded, "The thing is that when he asks me to think outside the box, I feel that I'm being no better than a villain scheming and making plans, makes me feel dirty like I'm some lowlife. I know he's right though, but I can't help it."
The boy blinked nodding his head understanding where the girl was coming from; it reminded him of when Torino told him that his admiration of All Might was holding him back. He then said, "Well maybe, he's right." The girl looked at him betrayed so he waved his hands trying to explain, "What I mean is that it isn't a bad thing to think outside the box once in a while."
"But doesn't that means that I'm no better than a villain by scheming?" the girl asked hugging her legs. The boy smiled softly at her remembering how insecure he seemed when his quirklessness was mentioned as he saw that this was the same for the vine-haired girl.
The boy shook his head, "Not really," the girl looked at him, "I mean think of it this way. What would god want more; me saving a lot of people with a few underhanded tactics or a little bit of scheming, or me dying along with a lot of people because I allowed my morals to hold me?"
The girl took the boy's words to heart as she thought about them in her head; he was making a good point. God would want her to save people, so the method shouldn't be judged, and she isn't scheming to kill anyone. She's only doing it to prevent the death of someone.
The boy added, "And I think god would care more about your intentions rather than mere tiny details regarding execution."
The girl smiled softly at the word as she thought about them as a loud voice yelled at them, "What are you whippersnappers doing here?" Torino kicked them both in the gut saying, "Get back to work." He then left the teens as they mentally said, 'This really sucks/hurts.'
Izuku added, "She can win this fight if she's willing to bend her morals just a little bit so that she can devise a plan to trick him into letting his guard down." Everyone then focused back on the fight where the girl was still dodging Iida.
Back in the arena, the girl looked at Iida as she tried to avoid him. the girl wanted a moment so she can wrap her vines around him and send him outside the field, but till now she can only manage to dodge, but can't do anything else since the boy is too fast for her to send her vines. A part of her mind then told her that she has to plan a way to trick the boy outside the arena, but she shook her head. This was a sinful way. She can't just do it. She would be no better than villains who trick people before hurting them and taking all of their possessions and hard work.
She then remembered her talk with Izuku from the previous week. ever since she had that talk, the girl began to doubt her ways and tried to rationalize a way to frame the talk that it leads to sinful ways, but she couldn't; what he said that day was the truth, she knew that the lord wouldn't mind a small plan to protect people, but the problem now was from her since she wasn't willing to be open-minded.
At this moment of hesitation, Iida managed to grab her and almost activated his special move, but the girl's vines reacted instinctively and pushed Iida away from her, so much so he almost flew out of the ring. The girl looked at this and said in a low tone, "Why Lord?"
The girl remembered one more time her talk with Izuku causing her imagination to take her mind to a world where Iida was a villain. The girl shivered knowing if that was true, she would've been a goner for sure.
She took a deep breath, as she tried to formulate a plan in her head. She looked at her surroundings and came up with something that just might work and save her hide. She calmly used her vines to levitate her over one of Iida's attacks and took her to the center of the arena.
Back in 1-B's booth, everyone sighed in relief as they saw Shiozaki managed to avoid losing. They saw the girl making her into the center of the arena they were fighting in, and stood there as if she waiting for Iida to come at her.
Izuku hummed a little, "So it seems she finally managed to bend her morals a little to achieve victory. That's a good thing. Now let's watch."
Everyone looked toward the field where Shiozaki stood and waved calmly at Iida who charged up his quirk to grab her only for her to jump away using her vines.
Mic's voice then came, "Man, this is kinda boring. It seems a little bit repetitive. What do you think, Eraser?"
Eraser then spoke through the speakers, "It would appear that till now that Shiozaki was on the defensive, and is only trying to run away from Iida given that his quirk to some level counters hers regarding his speed that can outpace her vines if they went out to try and grab him, but I have to go her credit for her sharp reflexes, not many people can keep up with him that much."
In the teacher's booth, Vlad stood up and yelled as loud as he can, "COME ON, SHIOZAKI. I KNOW THAT YOU CAN DO IT. SEND HIM PACKING." The teachers sweat-dropped at his behavior, but couldn't fault him for believing in his student. They then looked intently on the field as Iida charged once more at the vine girl.
Back in the field, the vine-haired girl saw that the Iida heir charged quickly at her, but she used her vines to throw herself to the side avoiding the boy completely as he came to a halt and stopped looking at her, "I demand that you stop this instance." The girl couldn't help, but sweat-drop, 'Does he honestly think that I'm going to actually stop?'
She then walked a little and used her vines to push herself again away from Iida who charged past her and managed to stop himself before looking at the girl and sighing. This has taken more than he expected; he thought that if he charged at her quickly while she tried to catch him, he would quickly shove her out, but the girl had foreseen his attempt and erected a defensive instead of trying to attack head-on. This little foresight is what caused their little game of cat and mouse.
Iida charged once more at her, and she used her vines as a springboard to throw herself away from the boy who grumbled angrily. She looked at him and saw that he was beginning to get worked up, so he might just slip, 'Come on Iida, just follow the birdie a little bit more, and this will hopefully end for both of us because I'm also getting tired of this little charade of ours.'
The boy charged once more, but the girl jumped out of the way and turned to face him. before the boy can charge up again, vines erupted from the ground and slammed into his face pushing him slightly. The boy skidded a few steps back, but was about to charge when Midnight said, "Iida has stepped out of the bounds, so, therefore, Shiozaki is the winner of this round."
The boy looked at the ground and saw that he was truly outside the bounds. He looked at the vine-haired girl who slumped to the ground putting a hand on her chest as she breathed a sigh of relief. He walked up to her and said, "I have to admit, Shiozaki. That was a smart strategy that you used to defeat me." he put out his hand to help her stand.
The girl smiled at him as she took his hand, "Thank you, Iida. I also have to admit that you pushed me to my limits, but you were a fine opponent."
The two teens walked out from the field as they made their way to their classes.
In 1-B's booth, the students were cheering on happily given that their class had another one of their members walk to the second round. Shiozaki then entered the booth, she was bombarded by her classmates who were congratulating her much to the girl's embarrassment as she squeaked turning red in the face. Once she called herself down, she bowed, "Thank you all for your support." She looked at Awase and said, "And thank you for standing up for me when Mic called me an 'assassin', even though you were doing it to mess with him." the boy blushed at how easily the girl can read him, and waved his hand.
Izuku then saw Tokage stand up, and head to the door. He asked her, "Tokage, where are you heading? The next match is about to begin."
The girl smiled at him, and said, "Dude, did you forget that my match is after this one? I'm heading to the waiting room. I need to find a way to beat Bakugo after all." The girl noticed a tiny shiver go through her friend's spine as the boy's name was mentioned, and frowned. She hated how afraid he was of him, yet he called him a friend; it just didn't make sense to her.
The boy then fished through his sports clothes and fished out his notebook handing it over to her. the same one that she snatched from him at the beginning of the year when he reacted negatively. the girl was confused till he spoke, "Here, in this notebook is everything you need to know about Kacchan's quirk. It contains all of his strengths and weakness. I'm sure if you read through it, you could find a way to beat him."
The girl smiled at the gesture. It made her feel warm inside her chest, but she couldn't accept the notebook. If she wanted to win this thing, it had to be on her own terms. She pushed the notebook away, "Sorry greenie, but if I'm going to win this, I want it to be due to my own skills. I know that you understand where I'm coming from."
The boy looked at her and nodded his head, but before she can fully go he grabbed her hand and said, "I just want to warn you that Kacchan is really resourceful, so don't let your guard, even if he seems down, be ready to fight because he might just jump back up the moment you turn your back on him, and when he starts any attack, he always uses a big right hook."
The girl wanted to say that he exaggerating, but given she was talking to a guy who lived with her opponent most of his life; she knew that she should take his words and work on them.
The girl smiled as she nodded her head. Before she went away, she gave the boy a hug saying, "Thanks for the help greenie. Now sit back and watch win this thing."
The girl then went away, while the boy was red-faced from the embrace, but he felt really warm inside his chest. He turned to see a couple of his friends smiling at him making him embarrassed.
Mic then began to announce the seventh match of the first round, "Hey guys, and welcome back to the sports festival, the previous match was a bit umm… interesting to say the least, but we're now in for the seventh match of the festival. On one side, we have the pink-skinned girl that can melt you away with her smile, the alien queen of class 1-A Mina Ashido." The girl waved at the audience throwing kisses as she entered the arena decked with support items, "on the other side, we have the support wizard of the support class, the girl who Powerloader is thinking about putting a leash on due to the number of explosions she causes in her work, Mei Hastume." Mei entered the ring with an excited smile as she looked at Mina who winked at her and gave her a thumbs-up.
Midnight then noticed that Mina was decked with support items. She was about to talk when the girl presented with a paper that said Nezu himself accepted this, so she shrugged. Midnight then called the beginning of the fight.
Mina ran toward Mei, and the boots she was wearing sent her jumping high into the air, and a device strapped to her arms began to sprinkle acid at the field while Mei used a shield to protect herself. She then used a backpack to hover above the field. She then put out a mic as she talked through the speaker systems, "Today, to all of the participants of the sports festival, and all those big support wigs, I'll show you all my babies such as baby 234 that pinky over there used to jump high in the air, or baby 54 that she used to increase the range of her acid attack…:
The girl continued to talk about her work, while Mic asked Eraser, "Did she just hijack the festival to advertise herself?"
Eraser shrugged as he said, "Talk about a hard sell."
For the next 30 minutes, both girls showed off Mei's inventions and Mina showed off her skills. Turns out that Mei has talked with Mina before the match telling that she only wanted to show off her inventions, so both girls came to a compromise; Mei shows off her inventions while Mina shows off her skills. Mina also will wear Mei's inventions, but she will have at least 50% discounts whenever she wants a support item from Mei in the future and 10% of the sales. They even passed the deal by Nezu who legalized it.
In the end, Mei exited the stage and said, "Good day, I showed off my inventions, and got two permanent customers." But there was a thing that the pink-skinned girl didn't notice. The thing was that Mei added a small clause in the fine print that said if Mina goes to another support engineer the 50% discount and the 10% becomes null for 10 years, so in other words, Mei tricked her. Nezu noticed the clause, but didn't say anything to teach Mina a lesson; always read the fine print.
In 1-B's booth, Izuku chuckled, "Well, that was something." Everyone nodded.
After the small fiasco caused by both Mei and Mina, Mic came back, "Welcome back to the final match of the first round, on a part we have a boy that was born with a face that only a mother can love, the mad bomber, and the guy who single-handedly made this year's sports festival become R-Rated due to his foul language, it's Katsuki Bakugo from class 1-A," The boy walked onto the stage as he wore a scowl on his face, "on the other end, we have the one of 1-B beauties, the girl who is everything about reptiles, a fun-seeking spirit who was recommended to the hero course, and the girl I'm personally rooting for, Setsuna Tokage." The girl walked waving to the people, but once she made eye contact with Bakugo, she gulped a little.
The boy looked at her, "Hey, you can back out now. I'm not the monster that everyone makes me out to be." The boy finished with a smirk.
"Don't worry about little old me, because I'm going to tame you once this was over." The girl replied putting a hand on her hip.
The boy looked at her and realized something, "You're one of Deku's sidekicks, aren't you?" he then licked his lips viciously, "I'm going to enjoy blowing to bits and pieces." The girl hid it well, but internally she knew that the whole now became a little bit personal, 'I guess he likes to hurt everyone that ever smiled at Greenie.'
Midnight then walked onto the stage, and issued her usual warnings, before she told them to begin the fight.
Bakugo ran quickly toward the girl. He lifted his hands letting out an explosion toward the seemingly distracted girl. A huge cloud of smoke filled the arena. Bakugo stood there marveling at his handy work, till the smoke was gone and he paled in fear.
On the ground were the scattered remains of Tokage. The boy took a step back afraid of what happened; he accidentally killed this extra. Even if he was full of pride, he knew that now his chances of becoming a hero were zero percent; who in their right mind would want a murderer as a hero?
The audience was also in shock seeing the remains of the girl laying lifelessly on the ground.
Mic in his booth said to his colleague while covering his microphone, "Should we call the authorities? It seems that they should do their job now. You know... delivering the news to Tokage's parents." The erasure hero could only facepalm at his friend's stupidity while pointing toward the field where a shocked Bakugo was standing, but something else began to happen down there.
In 1-B's booth, Izuku bit his lip. He knew that Tokage was a good combatant, but he couldn't help but feel worried for her. Kendo saw this and held his hand saying, "Don't worry, Tokage's a tough customer." The boy smiled, but he didn't help but feel afraid for his friend's health, because of anything the start showed that Bakugo doesn't hold back against anyone.
Back in the arena, Bakugo was staring in horror at his work; he didn't mean to kill her. he warned her that she should leave when she had the chance, but when he knew she was Deku's friend something snapped inside him, and he went all out. the boy was trying to find a way to justify his actions when he suddenly felt a sharp pain in his abdomen.
He looked only to see nothing. This pain was suddenly followed by another hit in his back. The boy twirled around unleashing an explosion, but there was nothing there to hit. The boy began to feel suspicious about the whole situation, but suddenly something punched him in the face causing him to fall back. He then felt something grab the scruff of his P.E. shirt and drag him toward the end of the arena. The boy let himself out of the shirt when he saw two floating hands holding it.
He was confused till a voice drew his attention, "Ahh, damn it. So close. Seems that I have to win this thing the traditional way by beating you black and blue." He looked only to see a floating mouth talking with him. suddenly, he felt a sharp pain in the side of his head.
He didn't understand what was happening till Eraserhead explained everything, "Setsuna Tokage's quirk is 'lizard tail splitter' allowing her to disconnect her body in different ways as long as the disconnected parts don't exceed 30 pieces, in other words when Bakugo unleashed his first explosion, she merely disconnected her body just to disorient Bakugo, so she can catch him off-guard, and I have to admit it worked pretty good all things considered."
Setsuna frowned, "Hey, stop giving away all my secrets worldwide, or at least wait till I kick his ass."
Bakugo looked at her, and rage filled his vision. This worthless extra just made him the laughingstock of the entire festival with her stunt. She had to pay for her actions. Bakugo gave out a battle roar and lunged at the floating mouth which merely zipped away before he can reach it. The boy then felt a kick on his knee.
He launched an explosion downward only for it to hit nothing. He felt a pain in his side only to twirl and saw nothing. He then felt a pain in his back, then his shoulder, followed by his knee, chin, and face. He then heard the girl giggle, "How do you like my new attack?" the boy couldn't respond as he was being beaten from every possible direction, "I call it 'scale storm'."
Suddenly all the parts came at him at the same time hitting him all at once causing him immense pain.
Bakugo growled as he mentally said, 'As if I'll allow one of Deku's damned friends to defeat me.' the boy then used his anger to unleash a very huge explosion that threw all the parts away, and caused the girl to scream in pain as she felt her pieces get grilled alive.
The pieces went back to Tokage who frowned since she only had a plan A and B, but it seems now she has to improvise. She then noticed that Bakugo is speeding toward her like a canon, as he lifts his hand and yells, "Go to hell" A large explosion follows, but when Bakugo looks at the aftermath there was nothing but rubble. he looks around him since the girl can split herself.
Suddenly, he felt something strike him in the temple. he touched his head and noticed that he bleed a little. he looks only to see multiple pieces of Tokage floating in the area as the girl herself laughed, "Thanks for the ammo, captain bomb." the confused boy looked only to see each piece of her holding a stone. the girl then yelled, "Improvised Move: Stone Scales."
the girl then began to send the pieces to Bakugo. the boy in return began blasting, but she was smarter using decoys; sending one piece to drag his attention while sending another one to him. The boy was getting tired, but refused to use and eventually caught up to the trick as he began exploding from two directions. she then used another tactic as she began sending two limbs together at the same time for unseen angles.
"Shit," the boy yelled as he was hit in his sternum and hip. he felt sharp pain causing him to kneel down. he was then attacked in the stomach and thigh. the boy jumped up and used a huge explosion to scatter everything around him. he looked and saw nothing but smoke. The entire area was drenched by smoke from his explosion. he can hear the girl laughing. he suddenly saw something coming from the shadows in front of him. he readied himself from an attack, but the piece only glided above him, while something then hit him from behind.
the girl was now in front of him as she said, "Well, what do you know? My feet did leave an imprint." the boy looked at her, and charged as he said, "You will pay for this. No one..." he went for a right hook, but the girl responded by grabbing his hand, and threw him over her shoulder slamming him hard into the ground. the boy sorely thought, 'How the heck did she know about this?'
the girl giggled, "Well, greenie was right. You do use your right hook to start any attack." the boy stood up as he thought, 'Deku'. the boy jumped at her like a feral animal, but she disconnected herself the moment an explosion. the boy jumped around, but he was then hit by Tokage's foot on the back of his head causing him to stumble forward only to be met by a fist to his face disorienting him.
Tokage then sent her pieces and grabbed him as she began to hover him over the arena's bounds.
Everyone in 1-B was holding their breath wondering if this was the end, but Izuku said, "Yeah, this is by no way over."
The bomber boy opened his eyes as he exploded himself from his prison. the boy freeing himself looked at the girl who was now hovering in the air with her pieces floating around her as he said, "Let's make this an aerial battle." the boy then used his quirk to begin floating in the air. Bakugo then began a fight where he would go after Setsuna's head but was always blocked by one limb.
the girl looked at him and knew he wasn't going to give up. In one moment of distraction, the boy was in front of her as he readied an explosion. the girl on instinct sent a piece of herself and grabbed his hand twisting toward his face the moment he let the explosion loose. the girl wondered if this would be his end when she backed away a bit, but the boy was still hovering in the air, but his face was burnt a little as he gritted his teeth. the girl figured that he might be immune to his explosions that's why he wasn't affected much. She then thought of something Izuku told her. an idea about her quirk that seemed ridiculous in her mind at the time; he told her that maybe if she compressed her limbs when they detached she can give them an extra boost of speed when released.
The girl knowing that she has no choice decided to try it. She maneuvered her head avoiding Bakugo who came flying by. The girl then saw two pieces which were her fists. She sent them to a wall and began to compress them like rubber. there was pain, but when she let go the limbs flew quickly at their target hitting him both in the gut and the back causing him to fall a little, before controlling himself. the girl grinned as she repeated this tactic on him turning her pieces into small missiles and the area into a warzone.
Once the boy was distracted enough, she sent two pieces that slid under his shirt and began dragging him to the ground. the boy said as he pointed his hands to the ground, "You need to try better than this." he aimed an explosion to keep him floating, but he was suddenly turned as he let an explosion toward the sky sending him plummeting to the ground; the only saving grace is that he was still into the arena.
The boy then sent himself back into the air as he was again bombarded by the girl's parts. he was then tied by the limbs as he was covered by the parts, but once he tried to free himself by releasing an explosion, the parts let him go, and the force of the explosion almost sent him flying over the bounds, but he quickly reacted sending an explosion toward the bounds sending him back to the arena. the boy looked at the girl, 'She must have a weakness. my explosions can't do shit if she can divide herself.' he then noticed something; Tokage's parts were always in a radius near her, and every 2 minutes or so reconnected with each other as some reset charge, 'Of course, she has a timer. she can disconnect all she wants, but when she hits her timer, she needs to connect back together. I bet she's pushing herself to the extreme right now.'
the girl grinned at him, "You know when Greenie said you're tough, I was actually worried, but now seeing you, I can tell he's exaggerating given that you're being tossed around by me like a ragdoll." the girl was hoping that angering him might throw him off his game, but she was wrong.
Bakugo looked at her with an evil look as he said, "Tell me, what do you want your funeral to be; open or closed coffin?" he then went after her in the skies. the boy then began swatting her limbs with explosions. he knew that hitting them will weaken them forcing her to connect back.
the girl was beginning to get overwhelmed. She at this point knew that antagonizing Bakugo was a bad idea as he was now more determined even with all his injuries. She was lost in her thoughts that she didn't see Bakugo right in front of her. the boy yelled, "Got you now." he then sent an explosion that she barely managed to dodge, but forced her to fall from the sky and reconnect. She hit the ground and was disoriented for a bit, but she shook her head getting ready to return to the fight.
She stood back up, but was surprised by Bakugo being up close and personal in her face as he said, "DIE, BITCH." He then unleashed one of his biggest explosions yet at her causing her eyes to widen in shock as she was engulfed by it, but he didn't stop there as he began to unleash smaller explosions at her while yelling, "DIE"
In the end, when he calmed down, the field was nothing, but rubble. The boy smiled and said, "I wo…" he then smelt something funny as he fell face first on the ground with Midnight using her quirk on him.
The heroine looked with worry as she saw the girl's classmates jump from their booth to search for her in the rubble. Once they found her, they quickly took her to the infirmary. There were no cheers, no claps as people basically witnessed what seemed like a murder attempt on live television.
In 1-A's booth, everyone looked in shock as witnessed what happened. Momo spoke up, "I'm going to check on Tokage." She then stood up and hurried to the infirmary, while everyone sat there frozen.
A couple of moments later, Mic said, "I want everyone to stay calm now. I just had news from Recovery Girl that Tokage is fine. A little banged up, but fine nonetheless. We'll take a small break, and then we'll move up to the next round."
In a bar, Tomura sat as he watched the television. He thought that the battles were boring until the last one where the girl was almost killed. He laughed and said, "I like that kid."
He then looked at Kurogiri, and said, "Kurogiri, you know what your mission is, right?"
The living mist nodded as he teleported away.
In Hosu city, a figure was crouched over a building as he looked down at the street watching an armored man, "I will erase the fakes of this world. I will help the meaning of the word hero regain its meaning."
