A/N: The first member for Firehouse 51 (aside from Biden, of course) finds out about Gabby's pregnancy this chapter, so it won't be much longer before the rest of the firehouse finds out and you'll finally get to see how everyone reacts!

Kelly quietly closed the door behind him as he entered his apartment, trying to make as little noise as possible in case Gabby was still sleeping. He dropped his keys and phone on the counter and headed to his room to drop off his duffle before making his way to Gabby's room to check on her.

To his surprise, Gabby was already awake, just coming out of the bathroom as he poked his head inside. "Hey," he called softly, not wanting to scare her.

Gabby smiled when she saw him. "Hey," she replied. "How was the rest of your shift?"

Kelly shrugged. "It was okay. Pretty slow, which is good," he told her, walking towards her and wrapping his arms around her.

Gabby smiled. "Good. Did you get any sleep last night?"

Kelly shrugged. "More than usual; we only had two calls." He looked down at her. "How are you feeling?"

"I was able to keep some food down last night, and the nausea isn't too bad this morning," Gabby replied.

"Do you want to try and eat something? I could make us some breakfast if you think you're feeling up to it," Kelly offered.

Gabby thought for a moment. "Okay. Nothing too heavy, though."

Kelly walked towards the kitchen with Gabby trailing behind. He opened the fridge and rummaged around for a few minutes before retrieving some eggs, cheese, and turkey. "How about an omelet? Maybe with some toast?" he asked.

Gabby nodded, "Sure, that sounds amazing." She took a seat on one of the barstools as Kelly got to work cooking.

"How many questions did you get after I left yesterday?" she inquired.

"Not as many as I expected," Kelly replied. "Brett was concerned about how much weight you've lost and how pale you looked. The squad guys were definitely suspicious; I think they're starting to put the pieces together about the timing of your arrival and my time off and change in mood, but they've not said anything yet. Herrmann did say something about how I haven't been to Molly's for a while."

Gabby laughed. "Sorry; I didn't even think about how my showing up at the firehouse would make things harder for you."

Kelly shrugged. "It's okay. Everyone loved seeing you. I'm glad you stopped by. Even if it did mean getting bombarded by questions," he smirked. He set a plate of food in front of Gabby and then took a seat next to her, setting his own plate in front of him.

"That was amazing," Gabby told Kelly once they'd finished eating. "Your cooking skills are better than I remembered,' she teased.

Kelly chuckled. "I'm not sure if that's a compliment or an insult," he replied, placing his hand over his heart in mock hurt.

"Take it as a compliment, Severide," Gabby told him, reaching for his plate and standing up to take both of their plates to the sink.

"Oh, so we're reverting to last names again? Is that how you repay me when I cook for you?" Kelly teased, walking up behind where Gabby stood at the sink.

Gabby hid a grin as she reached for the sprayer. "Maybe," she replied slyly, quickly aiming the sprayer at Kelly and shooting him with water.

Kelly jumped back, his mouth falling open. "Hey! What was that for?" he exclaimed. "I'm going to get you for that!"

He stepped towards her and Gabby squealed, taking off in the opposite direction in an attempt to get away from whatever retribution Kelly thought she was owed. It was in vain, though, as Kelly quickly caught up to her. He picked her up over his shoulder and gently tossed her onto the couch, tickling her sides and causing her to squeal with laughter.

"Okay, okay," she laughed. "I give up! You're a great cook!"

Kelly stopped tickling her. "Thank you," he grinned. He stayed there for a moment as he and Gabby stared at each other. Kelly was straddling her on the couch, his hands still on her sides. His breath caught in his throat as he looked at Gabby. Even with all of the weight she'd lost, she was still every bit as beautiful as she had been in New York. He couldn't seem to look away.

Gabby's heart was pounding so hard she was sure Kelly could hear it. The way he was looking at her was the same way he'd looked at her that second night in New York when he'd followed her out of the elevator and kissed her. She felt her body reacting to his gaze and cursed her pregnancy hormones. Her lips suddenly felt dry, and she licked them, trying to keep her breathing normal.

The motion drew Kelly's eyes to her lips. Those sweet, soft lips that he'd kissed in New York. Before he could stop himself, he leaned down, kissing her, and Gabby was kissing him back, deepening the kiss. Her tongue brushed against his lips, asking for permission to enter. He parted them, allowing her tongue access to his mouth.

Kelly felt himself growing hard as their tongues tangled together. God, she tasted so good. Her hands were on his sides, under his shirt, just above his waistband. He moaned into her mouth as one hand brushed across his stomach, slipping just under his waistband.

Gabby took his moan as an invitation and repeated the motion, this time wiggling her hips just slightly, remembering how he'd responded to that action in New York. She was rewarded by another moan.

Kelly broke this kiss and dropped his mouth to Gabby's neck, searching for that sensitive spot on her neck that he'd discovered in New York. He was rewarded by Gabby shifting under him and throwing her head back when he found it and began sucking on it.

They were interrupted by a knock on the door. They pulled apart; both of their faces flushed from the heat of the moment. They stated at each other for a moment before another knock sounded.

Kelly pushed himself up and off of the couch, slowly making his way towards the door. He glanced back at Gabby, who was now sitting up on the couch, combing through her hair with her fingers. "Coming!' He called as whoever was there knocked again.

When Kelly got to the door, he looked out the peephole and rolled his eyes when he saw who was there. With a sigh, he turned to Gabby. "It's Herrmann," he mouthed. Gabby nodded and motioned for her to let him in, so Kelly opened the door.

"Hey, Severide" Herrmann began. "I'm sorry to just drop by like this, but I –" Herrmann's words were cut off by his mouth falling open when he entered the apartment and saw Gabby sitting on Kelly's couch.

"Hey, Herrmann," Gabby greeted him, standing up from the couch and heading towards him.

Herrmann looked back and forth between Kelly and Gabby, and Gabby could see the pieces falling together in his mind. Gabby knew, however, that without all of the pieces, Herrmann would inevitably jump to the wrong conclusions about her and Kelly.

"Kelly graciously offered to let me stay here with him while I'm in town," Gabby quickly explained. "Since I'm going to be here for a while, he didn't want me to be stuck in a hotel the whole time."

Herrmann nodded, but it was clear the older man was still suspicious, so Gabby looked at Kelly, hoping he would correctly interpret her expression as asking for help.

"Gabby stopped by when she got into town. I promise I didn't know she was coming," Kelly added. "I just figured there was no reason for her to be in a hotel when I had an empty room."

"So that's why you stopped showing up at Molly's," Herrmann said slowly. He turned to Gabby, "You could have always come by with him, you know. You're always welcome there."

Gabby was about to reply when a wave of nausea hit her from out of nowhere. "Worst timing ever," she thought, taking off for the bathroom.

Herrmann looked slightly panicked as he watched Gabby take off for the bathroom and then heard the sounds coming from it. "Is Dawson okay?" he asked, turning to Kelly.

Kelly winced as he heard Gabby empty her stomach of the breakfast she'd had. "Yeah, she'll be fine," he assured the older man. "She just hasn't been feeling the best lately." He wanted nothing more than to go after Gabby, to hold her hair back and rub her back and sit with her, but he knew that would raise suspicions with Herrmann.

"What's goin' on, Severide?" Herrmann asked, his expression making it clear he had no intentions of backing down until he got some answers. It was obvious that he was still protective of the former paramedic who had been like a daughter to him and Cindy. "Why is she here? And why do I feel like I'm not getting the full story from you two?"

Kelly sighed, running his hand through his hair. Gabby was still in the bathroom retching, and it was killing him not being able to make sure she was okay. "Look, Herrmann, I promise I'll explain everything to you. But right now, I need to go check on Gabby," he told his fellow lieutenant before grabbing one of the bottles of water he now kept the fridge stocked with and heading towards the bathroom.

"Hey, you okay?" Kelly asked softly as he knelt next to Gabby, tugging her hair out of her hand and holding it himself.

"Sorry," Gabby whispered, glancing over at Kelly with tears in her eyes. "I was feeling better; I thought maybe I'd be able to keep it down. I'm so tired of getting sick."

"I know, Gabby; I'm sorry," Kelly comforted. "You heard the doctor, though; it's going to get better, you just have to give it time. You're already doing better than you were a week ago when you first got here."

"What did you tell Herrmann?" Gabby asked a few minutes later when she was fairly sure the nausea had passed.

Kelly looked chagrined. "I may have told him that I'd explain everything to him," he confessed. "I just…I didn't know what else to say."

Gabby nodded. "Well, everyone's going to find out sooner or later. We can't hide it forever. We might as well start with telling Herrmann."

Kelly nodded. "If that's what you want. What about everyone else?"

Gabby thought for a moment. "Let's see how it goes with Herrmann first and then we can figure out how to tell everyone else."

Kelly helped Gabby to her feet and wrapped his arms around her for a minute, holding her. "You sure you're feeling up to this? I can do it if you're not."

Gabby shook her head. "I'm fine now, Kelly. And it should be both of us. It's not fair to you to have to do it on your own."

Together they made their way back out to the living area where Herrmann was still waiting, looking both confused and worried. "You okay, Gabby?" Herrmann asked. "What's going on? Are you sick?"

Gabby smiled at the older man. "I'm okay, Herrmann. I'm not sick. I'm pregnant."

Herrmann's eyes grew wide and he opened and closed his mouth a few times before he was finally able to get words out. "That's great, Gabby! I'm so happy for you," he told her as he pulled his former mentee in for a hug. "Congratulations!"

"Thanks, Herrmann," Gabby replied as she hugged him back, smiling. She pulled back and added, "We're not…it's complicated. We weren't really sure how to tell people."

Herrmann looked confused. "We?" he asked, looking back and forth between Gabby and Kelly, his eyes widening as it clicked. "Wait, it's-? No, it can't be. Can it?"

Gabby and Kelly laughed at Herrmann's confusion before Kelly jumped in to explain. "I ran into Gabby, we both got drunk, and the rest…well, I'm sure you can figure it out yourself."

"It definitely wasn't planned," Gabby added quickly.

"You're what? Six or eight weeks?" Hermann asked, clearly trying to figure out when and how Kelly could have run into Gabby without his knowing when the squad lieutenant had been at Molly's whenever he hadn't been on shift.

Gabby shook her head. "Ten weeks. Actually, eleven now," she corrected herself. "I've had some pretty bad morning sickness, which is why I've lost so much weight."

Herrmann nodded, and, quickly doing the math in his head, replied, "So, New York, then?"

Gabby replied before Kelly had a chance, feeling protective of him. "I was in town for a fundraiser and happened to be at the same hotel as him. He was at the bar drowning his sorrows in whiskey when I spotted him, and we both had a few drinks. We were both a bit more drunk that I think we realized at the time. Neither of us meant for it to happen."

"Being a parent is one of the best things I've ever done," Herrmann informed them. "I'm happy for the two of you. And, I won't tell anyone," he assured them. "Although, you may not want to wait too much longer. People are going to start getting curious."

"Thanks, Herrmann," Kelly told him. "We appreciate it. We'll tell everyone soon; we're just trying to figure a few things out first."

"That kid is lucky to have the two of you as parents. You're going to be amazing parents," Hermann told them as he was leaving. "And hey, don't be a stranger at the firehouse, Dawson!"
