Jam Session

Rafael stretched, yawned, and rubbed the sleep from his brown eyes.

"Lisa? What happened?" Rafael asked groggily.

"You fell asleep on the way to the common room, so we had to ask Hagrid to carry you upon his back." Stevie answered.

Once their Trsnsfiguration homework was finished, Phil checked his wristwatch.

"Oh my gosh! Look at the time! We're supposed to be in the great hall for dinner!" Phil exclaimed.

At the Gryffindor house table, Rafael and Lisa were eating with their house mates.

Rafael could see that Lisa was more than a little on the edgy side of things.

"Rafa-I-I'm," Lisa stammered. "still stressed out about Malfoy and Pansy peeking into the diary that I got last year from my godfather, Sirius."

Harry had completed his first two tasks so he was halfway to reaching the Triwizard Cup.

"Tell you what, Lisa," Rafael said. "if I can pull some strings with McGonagall, I can go to my dorm room to retrieve my guitar."

"You mean you will play for me, Darling?" Lisa asked Rafael.

"Not just you, my lovely Lisa," Rafael said softly and gently. "but the entire school."

Rafael stood up to ask Professor McGonagall for permission to grab his guitar.

"You're all talk," Malfoy jeered at Rafael. "bet you can't even play!"

"Oh! Knock it off, Malfoy, you don't even play an instrument." Seamus snapped.

Rafael walked over to the faculty table where Professor McGonagall sat with the other Hogwarts staff.

"Uh- excuse me, Professor McGonagall?" Rafael asked, he was feeling timid because Professor McGonagall was sitting right next to Professor Snape.

"What is it, Mister Moondance?" Professor McGonagall asked Rafael.

"May I please go to my bedroom to retrieve my guitar?" Rafael asked.

"Are you performing for us, Mister Moondance?" Professor McGonagall asked.

"Yes I am, Ma'am, but especially for Lisa." Rafael answered Professor McGonagall.

"Of course, Mister Moondance." McGonagall permitted.

"Dinner and a show, eh? This should be most enlightening." Dumbledore commented.

Rafael raced to get his guitar from his bedroom in Gryffindor Tower.

A few moments after returning to the great hall with his guitar case with guitar within it, Rafael sat back down next to Lisa and began to play a slow tune.

Lisa, sitting next to Rafael, leaned in toward his right hand side, her expression was dreamy as she began to sing to the soothing tune Rafael played.

Lisa: I've always thought that men were slime;

And every guy I've met has proved me right;

Until tonight;

Just when I thought I had it figured;

That life's a game you cannot win;

He comes in and changes all the rules;

What I've been taught, I learned the hard way;

That life and love are never just;

And if you trust, you're just one of the fools;

And now I can't believe my heart;

Is saying don't resist him;

That I've been on my guard too long;

I can't believe my heart;

Surrendered when I kissed him;

And told me all I thought I knew;

As sad but true is wrong;

If life is worth the disappointment;

I hadn't seen one reason yet;

Until I met the boy who smiles for free;

Upon this Earth, there's no one like him;

He sees the girl I long to be;

Making even me believe in me;

And now I can't believe my heart;

Has overcome my senses;

To help me see that he's the prize;

I can't believe my heart;

Says tear down all your fences;

That everything you want and more is right before your eyes;

I can't believe my heart;

Could be so;

Wise.

"Thank you for singing." Rafael smiled.

"Thank you for playing." Lisa said to Rafael.

"That was quite a beautiful song." another voice said.

Rafael and Lisa jumped slightly and turned toward the voice.

Sir Nicholas appeared standing nearby.

"Sir Nicholas," Lisa asked. "how long have you been there?"

"Long enough to enjoy this young man's wonderful music and your beautiful ballad, my dear," Sir Nicholas replied. "won't you play another song?"

Rafael nodded and started playing a happy little lively Romani dance tune.

After the second song ended, the teachers were praising Rafael as a few of the girls and boys from the Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff tables came right over to the Gryffindor table.

"You two were great!" Kristi exclaimed.

"Yes," a boy named Terry Boot agreed. "you two should definitely perform at the Yule Ball!"
