AN: let's try this again. So sorry about the last chapter. Apparently I have two different versions of this chapter saved. But I couldn't see my input screen earlier so I think I kept copying and pasting from word into my document manager. I'm not really sure what happened. But thank you for letting me know. This chapter contains adult themes and violence.
*Flashback*
Sookie hugged Gran before she got back in her car to go back to Shreveport. She had spent the day with Gran to celebrate Gran's birthday and Sookie's college graduation. Sookie was going home with a full belly of fried chicken and homemade mashed potatoes. But today was also important for a couple of other reasons. In four hours it would be exactly a year since she had met Eric.
Earlier that morning, Sookie had woken up to 365 roses. There were so many that he hadn't even been able to fit them all in the bedroom. She had found a beautiful arrangement on the coffee table with a card.
'A rose for everyday since you came into my life. It's not enough for all the joy you've brought into my life. There is a dress hanging in my closet for you for tonight. Pam picked it and made you an appointment with Greta to get your hair done.'
All my love,
Eric
Sookie had cried happy tears.
The other important thing happening today. Eric thought he had finally discovered why she could hear people's thoughts and had teleported. He had been waiting on a phone call for confirmation when she fell asleep last night but promised to tell her what he found out one way or another.
Sookie pulled into the salon that Pam swore by. She once told her that no one could do highlights like Greta. For the next two hours Sookie's hair was curled and pinned into a beautiful updo. She had her nails done in French tips and her makeup done. Sookie smiled the whole way home. She parked her car in the garage and ran in the door and up the stairs. She pulled the long plastic bag from Eric's closet and tore the plastic off. The dress was beautiful. It was short, it would flow from her waist to just above her knees. It would fit tight right under her breasts and make the girls look awesome. The top of the dress tied in a halter and showed just the perfect amount of boobs. It fit her perfectly. She was looking in the mirror when she felt Eric hugging her to his chest from behind.
"You are beautiful." He whispered kissing her neck just under where her dress tied. "I can't wait to take this off later." He spun her around and kissed her softly. "I'm going to go shower and get dressed. It won't be long. I have so much planned for tonight." Eric kissed her again and held her gaze for a moment. Sookie smiled and threw her arms around his neck. "Thank you for such an amazing day. How were you able to find 365 roses?" Eric laughed. "Liked that huh? I have my ways, and there may be a flower shortage in Shreveport. How was Adele this afternoon? " Sookie smiled. "She's great, she sends her love." Sookie looked at Eric thoughtfully for a moment.
"Honey, I want to tell Gran, about you, that you're a vampire. I hate keeping things from her." Eric smiled and kissed her. "I'll go with you this weekend. We'll tell her together just in case she doesn't take it well." Sookie looked at him surprised that was so easy.
"Alright, I've got to shower." He kissed her and let her go and went to great ready. Sookie went downstairs and waited on the couch. She must have dozed off because the next thing she knew. She was pressed against black silk. She smiled as she looked up at him. He was so beautiful especially in his black Armani suit.
"You ready?" He asked. She smiled and shook her head.
Eric helped her to the car and forty-five minutes later they were pulling up to a tiny French restaurant.
"Where are we?" Eric opened her door and pulled her against his side. "I promised to find out what you were. Well there is nothing in your family's written history, but one name. Finton Brigant, he had a daughter, Shelby, who married your Grandfather's father. I didn't want to say anything until I had confirmation." He pressed up against her so she had to look up at him. "I had no way to contact these people so I had to reach out to someone who could. My maker Godric, you will meet him tonight too, arranged a meeting. Lover, if at any point in time you want to leave we will. I didn't want to ambush you with this but it was over even my head once my maker and Finton Brigant were involved." For the first time Sookie began to feel nervous. "Am I an alien?" Eric hugged her tightly and kissed the top of her head. "No." Eric held her close and walked towards the door.
"Eric." Sookie looked toward the voice. It was a boy, no more than sixteen. He was definitely vampire. He had an authority about him that made Sookie almost want to drop to her knees. Eric did, he fell to his knees.
"Godric." The boy walked over to them, radiating his power and authority. He simply touched Eric's shoulder and he got up and wrapped his arm around her.
"It's good to see you Eric. You must be Sookie? You've caused quite a stir." He wasn't being rude just stating a fact.
"I didn't mean to." Sookie said quietly. She was ready to run away and cry. Tonight was supposed to be perfect.
"Of current you didn't. Let's go in, I will explain as best as I can and later we have a guest who will be able to tell you the rest and why you are just finding this out." Sookie liked Godric instantly. He was kind. Eric opened the door and led her into the restaurant into a private room. It was just the three of them.
"She is quite beautiful Eric, but then so was her great grandmother." Godric said sitting across from them. Sookie ordered a glass of wine and she and Eric turned their full attention to Godric.
"I suppose I should start at the beginning. When I was around 150 years old I was in Ireland. It's a magical place, it always has been. My maker and I got separated somehow and he ended up being killed by a local pack of werewolves. I was trying to find the wolves when I stumbled upon an injured man. At least I thought he was a man at the time. He was no more human than I was. He smelled sweeter than anyone I had ever encountered before. We began to talk and I found that he was after the same pack of wolves as I was. They had kidnapped his sister and held her for weeks. They beat and raped her. Then left her by the river so her family would find her. She ended up pregnant and killed by her people because they were afraid of how the baby would turn out. We decided to work together. We killed everyone in the pack. The man's name was Niall Brigant. After his father went into the summerlands he became king of his people. He was a fairy. Fairy blood is intoxicating to vampires. Which is why Eric was unsure. He says your blood is simply sweeter. But it doesn't intoxicate him. Fairies were thought to of been extinct over 300 years before Eric was born. The only reason I knew different was because of Niall.
Niall and I became friends I suppose you could say. Niall always had a fondness for human women. He had a son with a human woman. He was named Finton. Eric says he traced a Finton Brigant in your family tree. Which was when he contacted me. I contacted Finton. I don't think he was aware of your presence. He agreed to meet us here he should be here within the half hour. But Sookie could you tell me, have you ever been sick?" She shook her head.
"I've always been healthy as a horse. I've never even been in a hospital except to see my Gran. I wasn't even born in one. Mama always said I tried to kill her. She had me on our kitchen table. That was part of the reason she didn't like me." Eric growled quietly and squeezed her hand under the table.
"What else is there Sookie?" Sookie looked at Eric and he nodded to her.
"I can hear people's thoughts, not vampires." Godric nodded as a tall man came to their table. Sookie looked at him in shock.
"Grandaddy?" He looked exactly like her Grandaddy Earl. A tear slid down her cheek as she began to cry. Eric wrapped his arm around her.
"Hello Sookie, I'm Finton. Your great great grandfather." Sookie turned into Eric's arms and began to cry, until she realized she was ruining his suit and pulled away.
"It's alright." He whispered to her.
"Why have I never met you before?" Sookie asked quietly through her tears. Finton sighed and took a seat in the empty chair.
"My daughter, your great grandmother, and I had a falling out. As a result, I lost touch with this part of the family. I'm so sorry Sookie, I imagine life has been very difficult for you." Sookie pushed away from the table.
"I need a minute." She ran from the restaurant all the way to Eric's car. But the car was locked so she sat down on the bench close to it. She cried into her hands. A few minutes later she felt someone sit beside her. She looked at Finton. And saw Eric and Godric off to the side. She had no idea how to tell him how she was feeling.
"I'm not upset because you haven't been present in my life. I'm upset because you look like Granddaddy so much. And I miss him. He was so kind and aside from Gran, the only one that truly loved me. He loved us all. I heard it in his mind when he would hug us." Finton touched her shoulder.
"What happened to him?" Finton asked with concern.
"We never found out. He just vanished one day about eighteen years ago. Why did you have the falling out with Shelby?" Finton sighed as a tear slid down his cheek. "You look so much like my Shelby. There was another child. Earl had just been born. Charlotte, she was a beautiful happy baby. She was almost two when Earl was born. Shelby was tending to the baby and Charlotte got out of the house somehow. They found her in the creek behind the house. Shelby never forgave me because I wasn't able to do anything to help her." Sookie grasped his hand in hers.
"I'm so sorry that wasn't fair of her." Finton smiled.
"You're so kind. Are you happy with the vampire? Does he treat you well?" Sookie shook her head "I love him. He's everything to me." Finton smiled. "That's all that matters Sookie. I'm glad I met you. You need to keep what you are secret." Finton motioned for Eric and Godric to join them. "There is a fae war starting. You will be much better off if no one knows anything about you. Even Niall." He looked directly at Godric. "If Niall finds out about her he will want to meet her, he'll be followed, and there will be others. The safest place for her is with you." He looked directly at Eric "I'll help you understand anything you need help with. But who she is needs to remain secret." Godric looked at Eric and nodded. "Of course, and she is bonded to Eric, so she has both our protection." Finton sighed and nodded and stood up. "I'll be in contact soon. It was wonderful meeting you my dear." Sookie grabbed for his arm to stop him from getting up.
"I teleported once and I have no idea how I did it or if I can even do it again." He looked at her startled.
"Already? I'll be in contact Sookie. There is a hidden spot in the cemetery in Bon Temps. Meet me there at first dark tomorrow." Sookie let him go and stood up and reached for Eric's hand. He hugged her to his side under his arm and held her. He nodded to Finton. "We'll be there." Finton turned and walked to the other side of the road and simply vanished.
Eric looked down at Sookie. "Are you alright?" She nodded her head yes and looked at Godric.
"Thank you both so much." Sookie tried to wipe her tears but the night had been to much of a rollercoaster.
"Are you hungry? Did you want to stay for dinner?" Eric looked down at her and caught a stray tear with his thumb.
"No I'm alright. I ruined your suit." She sniffled looking at the tear stains on the black silk. Eric leaned down and kissed her softly. "I don't care about that." He looked at Godric. He was watching the lovers with a slight smile on his face.
"Eric I understand it is a special day for you and Miss Stackhouse? I hate to say this but I need to discuss something with you. Sookie can hear this, I promise not to take up to much of your time." Eric looked at Sookie. "Let's walk lover." Eric took Sookie's hand in his and led her toward a pier across the road that led them out into the bayou. They walked to the end of the pier.
"Eric what do you know of the blood substitute the Authority has had developed?" Eric shrugged.
"I know they are thinking of making us public. They seem to think we can live off it." Godric looked at him.
"They have set a date, about a year from now." Sookie looked at Eric alarmed. He squeezed her hand in support. "It's alright lover, the plan is to say we are able to live off this synthetic blood so we aren't a danger to humans. I plan on keeping far far away from this until we see the public's reaction." Godric sighed. "If they only had any idea of what they were doing." Sookie swatted Eric on the arm.
"Why haven't you ever said anything about this to me?" Eric looked down at her unfazed. "It never came up, Sookie we've been talking about coming out since before you were born. Not everyone thinks it's a good idea. Pam and I decided to stay under the radar until we see how it goes. Especially since I have you to worry about." Sookie was to shocked to argue with him. She wasn't sure when she became such a burden to him. Tears threatened to fall.
"Can I have your keys so I can go home?" Eric reached in his pocket for the keys and handed them to her.
"Godric, it was wonderful to meet you. Thank you for everything." She almost tripped over her shoes trying to get back to the car. She put the key in the ignition and sped towards home. When she got there. She kicked off her shoes, and took off the dress. What a waste. She took off the uncomfortable lingerie and grabbed one of Eric's black t-shirts and a pair of booty shorts. She went out the sliding glass door and sat in the chair overlooking the waterfall. She looked down at her engagement ring and a single tear fell. She knew the moment he got home. She could feel him watching her
"Am I that much of a burden to you? You asked me to marry you Eric. You're staying 'under the radar because you have me to worry about?" She started to openly cry as he knelt infront of her.
"I'm sorry I should have told you. I didn't intentionally keep it from you. It just never occurred to me. I'd like to think nothing will change. But it most likely will. All I know for certain is I want you by my side during these changes. You are most certainly not a burden to me. I love you." She looked at him. "I'm sorry I must of made a horrific impression on Godric." He leaned up and kissed her softly on the lips.
"Quite the opposite. He thought you handled yourself well." He sat beside her on the next chair. His hand found hers.
"I ruined our anniversary." Eric put his fingers against her lips.
"No you didn't, the night is still young. And the moon is full, and if you'll let me, I'll show you how grateful I am I met you for the rest of the night." She stood up and took off her shirt and dropped her shorts. She climbed into his lap and he pressed against her as he started to kiss her. He spent hours worshiping her body. She lost count of her orgasms and collapsed against him fully sated. About five minutes before dawn, Eric stood up with her sleeping in his arms and raced to their bedroom. He kissed her tenderly and went to sleep.
*end flashback *
Sookie jumped when the first alarm went off. She sat up quickly in bed and glanced over at Eric. She got out of bed and got a bag of blood from the cooler and set it up to feed Eric. She went into the bathroom and wet a wash cloth. She began wiping Eric's face with it. She grabbed a pair of scissors and cut his shirt off. She gasped he had massive wounds all over his chest and neck. Tears ran down her cheeks as she cleaned him.
"Please be ok." She begged trying to lay her head on part of his shoulder that didn't have a wound. She honestly thought she would die if something happened to him. It was a psychical pain in the pit of her stomach. She wanted so badly to give him her blood.
"I love you Eric." Pam's words echoed in her head.
'Don't give him your blood. He won't be able to stop.' Sookie grabbed her phone for the alarm and gently leaned over and kissed him. She stood up and quietly walked out of the safe room into their bedroom. She fell to the floor, crying helplessly. She couldn't imagine anything strong enough to do this to him. He was the strongest person she knew. She cried for him and what he must of felt. She cried so hard she didn't even noticed another person in the room until she saw the bat coming toward her face. It hit her directly in the temple and that was the last thing she knew.
Sookie woke up to her head pounding. She was tied to one of the kitchen chairs. Her lips were dry and stuck together and she had a hard time opening her eyes.
"I know you're awake Sookie." A deep voice whispered directly in her ear. He licked the side of her face and pulled her head back by her hair. Sookie screamed and kicked him directly in his groin. She was struggling to get the ropes off when she was pushed backwards slamming her head against the table and falling to the floor. He kicked her hard in the stomach and fell on top of her and grabbed her by the hair and started slamming her head against the floor. Sookie suddenly felt Eric, he was sending her strength and love and he wanted her to get to him. She slung the chair full force against the man. The chair broke over his head and a light shot from her fingers. She was free from the chair and attempted to run. She made it a couple of feet to the stairs before he caught her by the hair and threw her down the stairs into the opposite wall. She finally saw her attacker.
"Re…… ne why?" She coughed blood spilled from her lips. She knew she had broken a couple of ribs. She suddenly saw him attacking Gran, Maudette, even Dawn. He even strangled his own sister. Gran had been by accident. He was shocked to see him in her kitchen.
"You a dirty nasty vamp whore. I didn't mean to kill her, it was supposed to be you!" He climbed on top of her and ripped her dress down the front. Sookie grabbed the bat and hit him right in the throat with the handle. She struggled to get to her feet. She grabbed the stair railing and used it for support as she tried to get to the safe room. She finally made it just in time to see Rene beginning to get up. She ran into the bedroom and locked the door behind her. She didn't have time to put the safe room on lockdown. She was already so dizzy. It hurt to take a deep breath. She ran to Eric and fell against him as she heard Rene banging on the door.
She could see in his thoughts what he wanted to do to her.
"Eric please baby, wake up, I felt you, you called me ." She kissed him on the lips. He needed blood and at this point she was dead either way and she would much rather go saving Eric. She grabbed the scissors off the table and sliced her wrist open. She held it to his mouth and he dropped his fangs and latched on all the while Rene was succeeding in breaking the door down. Suddenly she was pushed away from Eric and he looked at her wildly for a moment before he fell back into his sleep.
"Eric!"
'Great, he didn't drain me, but he's still out.' That was the last conscious thought she had as Rene broke through the door and wrapped the belt from her robe around her throat. He drug her from the room by the belt. He pulled the ends tighter every time she tried to get her footing. He drug her all the way out the back door and threw her in the pool. Her head bounced off the cement. He finally let the belt go but before she could gasp for air he pushed her under water. She screamed taking even more water in her lungs. He held her there until she saw a white light. She quit struggling. It was pointless anyway. Just before she gave in she felt Rene let her go and she was yanked out of the water. She thought she saw Eric with the sun shining in his hair. He was stunning. It was Eric, she knew that chest and those arms anywhere. She was home, safe and sound and no one could touch her while she was in his arms. It was hard to stay awake but she fought trying to get Eric out of the sun. He finally lifted her in his arms and raced toward the house. Once they were in the safe room Sookie quit fighting and fell limp in Eric's arms.
45 minutes earlier
Eric had been sleeping when he felt Sookie's fear and intense pain. He was having a hard time getting up. He tried to call her through the bond. She finally made it to him and then he was drinking her blood. Her blood was healing him but suddenly he remembered his injuries and knew he had to stop. It was so hard but he managed to let her go and shove her away from him. He was fighting the pull of the sun trying with all his might to wake up and help her. He heard her making a gurgling sound. He knew someone else was with them. He could smell their fear. But the damn silver and being awake all day the day before was making it difficult for him. After a few minutes of struggling he could feel her blood healing him. His eyes shot open and he jumped up. He ran down the stairs . He could feel her slipping away. Getting to her side became his main drive. He needed her to be ok more than he needed blood. He could see them outside. Sookie was thrashing in the pool but she was fading fast. He didn't even really consider the fact that he would burn in the sun. He'd meet the sun anyway if he lost her. When he raced out the door he didn't burn. He easily grabbed the man assaulting her and threw him with so much force he flew over the waterfall breaking his neck on impact. He cradled Sookie to his chest and pushed her wet hair from her face. He growled deeply in his chest seeing her injuries. She was semiconscious when the sun finally started to burn him. He lifted her in his arms and ran as fast as he was able back to the safe room. She had passed out by the time he locked the door and secured it. He fell to the floor against the bed with her in his arms.
"Sookie, hold on." He whispered in her ear. He couldn't give her his blood he could still feel the silver. Eric ripped the drawer beside the bed out of the nightstand and grabbed a tiny vial. He opened it and poured it in her mouth. He massaged her throat to help her swallow. "It's alright now Lover." He whispered in her ear. She was still bleeding from her wrist. He grabbed the silk bed sheet and used it to apply pressure. Eric grabbed his phone to call Dr. Ludwig but before the phone rang the sun had pulled him under again. He slumped back against the bed holding Sookie in his arms.
