"Pups I need you in the Observatory ASAP! We have an emergency rescue!"
"GGGGRRRRRRR!!!" Skye growled before huffing as she steadily got up out of her ball in her pup house.
She'd plan to sleep the whole day and just as she started to drift off, Ryder's frantic order boomed in from her pup tag.
"Hey Ryder."
Skye immediately shot a glare down at her pup tag upon hearing the German Shepherd's voice, she didn't want to hear it right now.
"Yeah, is everything ok bud?"
"I think I'm gonna have to sit this call out, I don't feel so good."
Oh please! Skye thought harshly, seeing past his BS. She wanted to call him out on it but she was too tired and ill to make a sene right now.
"Alright buddy, I'll put this down as a sick day for you. Get some rest and try to eat something while we're out."
"Will do Ryder."
Chase's voice perking up at the end made her want to throw her tag against the wall of her pup house. Thinking about the spat between them a few hours ago brought her pain, how could he suggest something like that?Giving our stuff away to known villains before letting them reek havoc? She tried repeatedly since that time to see things through his eyes, but she recalled him just doubling down on what Ryder warned him about, which she couldn't fully believe because she wasn't there. She was half planning to tell Ryder everything, though poor abused January and images of those… hollow eyes from that pup corpse now stuck in her head caused her to rethink her plan. Maybe Chase's claim has some truth.
She shoved the thoughts aside for now and eventually stepped out of her house and made her way to the Lookout. On the way, her nose caught a hint of rotting meat which caused her to stop and examine her fur.
"Bleh!" Her head recoiled up slightly as the stench from her fur filled her nostrils. It would seem as if the decayed tank matter she slipped into back in the labs has now partially dried in with her fur.
Skye did the only last minute thing she thought she could do to get rid of the stuff and went into the grooming room instead of the elevator. Once there, she managed to get a bottle of spray on dog shampoo down from one of the shelves and proceeded to spray herself down and scratch out the dried muck to the best of her abilities. The shampoo was of a strong and sweet coconut scent and it managed to mask the stench pretty well.
After that she went into the elevator which stopped at the Changing Room where she was dressed in her usual mission attire with her pup pack before continuing up to the Observatory. She was the last one in which garnered surprised looks from the other pups and Ryder.
"Sorry I'm late guys, rough morning." She said before a yawn escaped her throat.
"Skye, did you stay up all night?" Zuma asked with a hint of amusement. Ryder folded his arms and scrutinized her.
"No Zuma, just woke up on the wrong side of the pup house." Skye played off, trying to hide her agitation.
"Anyway pups, here's the situation." Ryder raised his voice, regaining the pups' attention. He flipped on the massive display screen showing a large semi truck hanging off a roadside cliff held up by an extended claw connected to small snow cat. "A truck veered off the road near Jake's Mountain, luckily Everest managed to grab it before it went into free fall but she doesn't have a lot of time."
Ryder zoomed in on said husky on the animated display. She looked desperate with the snow cat inching closer to the edge, he then zoomed over to the driver waving out of the driver's window in a panicked fashion.
The pups all gasped in horror except for Skye who raised her eyebrows.
"She doesn't have a lot of time! I, I mean we have to save her!" Marshall announced.
Skye rolled her eyes, normally their romantics would be cute but not today.
"That's exactly why we need to get move on." Ryder stated as he looked down at his pup pad. "First up for this mission is Marshall, for first aid if needed."
"I'm super fired up!" The Dalmatian barked before he went for the slide.
"Up next is Rubble, for backup and post cleanup."
"Rubble on the double!" The bulldog beamed before following Marshall.
"And lastly, Skye for the most important part, I need you to rescue the driver out of the vehicle before it falls."
"Yes sir, this puppy's… (yawn) gotta fly!" Skye's drowsiness gave way.
Ryder crossed his arms and gave her a stern look. "Skye, are you sure you don't need to sit this mission out?"
The cockapoo frantically shook her head no, "I've got this Ryder." She affirmed as she was the last to go down the slide. It might have been stubborn of her but she didn't want to let Ryder down and she still didn't want to be in the same area as Chase for the day.
"And you two are on call until further notice." Ryder ordered Rocky and Zuma who both gave their respective sound offs before darting for the elevator. The boy in turn made for the pole that led to the garage.
The trio of pups arrived back outside on the ground and went to their pup houses, which transformed into their standard vehicles. Without hesitation, they took off into the direction of Jake's Mountain. Ryder followed suit in his ATV.
They were on their way and were ready for anything the rescue threw at them, or so they thought.
