I don't own anything other than OCs
CH13
Everest gritted her teeth and stomped down on the accelerator as hard as she could on reverse. It always had the same result, it would pull back just a hair before before the snow cat returned to it's original position and inched ever closer to the edge.
"I sure hope the PAW Patrol aren't far!" Jake yelled from behind as he desperately held onto the back of her snow cat, trying to at least slow the descent.
Everest felt lucky that the truck didn't have a trailer attached or she wouldn't have been able to stop it from tumbling off the road. The roadside cliff was roughly a two hundred meter drop down onto a rocky bank, enough to crush the cab.
"Jake, Everest! We're here to help!"
The two turned to see Ryder approaching on his ATV with the pups close behind, the PAW Patrol had arrived. Ryder joined Jake in Grabbing the snow cat while Rubble and Marshall flanked both sides of them with Rubble using his bulldozer's claw to grab the side of the snow cat while Marshall tied his fire hose around the other. They pulled simultaneously, they couldn't get the truck up any but the snow cat came to a halt which was good enough for them for the time being.
"whew, just in time pups!" Jake said as he caught his breath.
"Thanks Marshee!" Everest yipped at the Dalmatian.
"It was no problem." Marshall affirmed as he tried to hide his blush.
"What exactly happened?" Ryder asked, trying to get a better understanding of the situation.
"I was shoveling some snow along the upper trail of the mountain when I heard a crash on the road below, I looked down to see this truck had rammed the side railing." She explained as she pointed to the edge. "I think his brake line might have snapped because the tires just kept going, I managed to speed down and grip it in time but just barely."
Ryder looked over the side to see the white pickup dangling above the bank, and like Everest had said her snow cat claw didn't grip very good and it looked like the truck would fall at any moment. He knew they had to act fast.
"Help!" A hand waved out of the driver door and a head of a man peeked out. Ryder noticed he was bleeding from a cut on his forehead and had a couple of bruises.
"Don't worry, we'll get you out of there in a second!" Ryder reassured.
"Marshall, as soon as we get this guy up I want his injury's treated ASAP!" Ryder ordered.
"You got Ryder!"
"Skye, I need you to get this man to safety with your harness… Skye!?" Ryder yelled as he noticed the cockapoo slumped over in her grounded copter with one of her eyes closed.
She immediately shot up at the sound of his voice. "Yes Ryder sir!…?"
"Did you hear what you needed to do?" Ryder reiterated.
"Yes Ryder, get the trucker to safety!" She half–guessed before taking off.
Ryder gulped as he watched her maneuver down below, he wished he had Chase with him. Ryder decided to call the other two pups out just in case.
Skye positioned her helicopter just above the driver's side of the truck. "Ruff! Ruff! Harness!" She barked, causing an adult sized harness to lower from the bottom of the copter.
She began to descend, aligning herself just above the the trucker who was already leaning partially out of the opened door, ready to reach for the harness.
Her eyes burned and she couldn't fight the thought of her comfy pup house. She now regretted going with Chase and should have just let him handle last night all by himself, at least then she wouldn't be mad at him and would have gotten her beauty sleep. Speaking of which, descending in her chopper was always the most relaxing thing.
"Skye!" Ryder's voice boomed over her pup tag, which shot her right up. She looked around frantically and saw she was a little ways from the trucker who was now back inside the cab.
"Yeah I'm okay!" Dang it!
"You need to be careful, he almost fell when he reached for the harness and you veered off!" Ryder chastised.
"Sorry! Won't happen again!" Skye apologized and sat up in her seat. She flew back over to the truck and repositioned herself.
"Can you get someone else!? I don't trust her!" The man yelled upwards, panicking.
"I'm not gonna fly away this time, I promise!" Skye reassured in an attempt to calm him.
"He can't escape his fate, or any of us."
"Huh?!" Skye looked around, the ghastly voice sounded like it came from right beside her in the helicopter. "Who said that!?"
"Skye what are you talking about!?" Ryder called in frustration as he saw her spin around in her copter.
Everest's attention was drawn to a creaking noise coming from the truck. She peered below to see that her snowcat's claw was starting to lose it's grip.
"Ugh guys, she has to hurry!" She reminded worriedly.
Skye tried to readjust the position of her vehicle but a sudden forced sensation to sleep began to take her over. She tried to fight but found herself to have zero control over it.
"No! No! Help!" She managed to scream out before her world was consumed in darkness.
"What is she doing!?" Everest nearly screamed.
"You need to see this."
"NO! LEAVE ME ALONE!"
"Skye!"
She was in darkness now but she was aware, she looked around and spotted a light in the far darkness.
She walked over to it. The darkness beneath her splashed as if she was walking in water but she didn't feel wet. She didn't feel anything.
The yellow light began to morph in some sort of strange illustration. It started with an oval shape with a series of lines above it, all pointing up to an eight pointed star. It burned a greenish yellow with steam rising from the outlines. She felt a sudden urge to touch it and saw her paw reach for it unconditionally.
She immediately recoiled, it wasn't hot but Ice cold to the touch.
"We gave you thought, words, emotion."
The voice seemed like it was nowhere in particular but everywhere at the same time.
"We have watched and listened through time and rock."
All she could do was listen.
"You will all come back here, eventually."
The voice echoed with those last words, before deafening silence fell in.
"Skye! SKYE!!!"
CHRASH!!!
A cloud of dust came up from the bank where Skye crashed at.
All the others could do was watch on in horror. Jake and the pups were still in shock.
"Skye! Skye! SKYE!!" Ryder desperately called as he scanned the bank for any signs of her. He received no reply and the dust cleared to show the wreckage of her aircraft but no movement.
Clank!
Chills went up Everest's spine at that mechanical sound. She thought the claw had gave way for a second but it came from her snowcat.
Before she knew it, her vehicle resumed it's course off the cliff and faster this time. She lost her traction.
Oh no… nononono, She slammed her paw on the accelerator in a fit of panic.
"Somebody help me!" The man screamed from below.
"Rubble pull!" Marshall yelled as he pulled with all his fire truck's might.
"Im trying!" Rubble yelled back as he pulled with his Bulldozer's claw.
"Ryder!" Jake called.
Ryder snapped out of his state before dashing over and helping Jake pull on the snowcat. It didn't make much difference though as the snowcat's tires were now creeping over the side of the cliff.
Everest froze, tears starting to flow down her cheek. Fast breaths escaped her lips as she started to feel light headed and nauseous. It was either the trucker or both of them, but she couldn't pull herself to abandon him, no one has ever died in a rescue before.
"Everest, you need to let go!" Jake yelled.
"No…I–I can't!" She cried back.
The snowcat gave way as the edge of the tires were over the cliff and it began to barrel. Everest shut her eyes.
"AAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!"
She screamed and so did the trucker, echoing throughout the mountain like loons.
"I… got you!" Marshall grunted.
She hit the ground, softly.
"Huh?" She opened one of her eyes to see she was on the road. Marshall managed to snatch her just before she fell over and had Rubble with his pup claw, who appeared just as surprised as she was. Their vehicles were gone though.
CRASH!!!
None of them could say anything. Each taking on their own haunted looks after all that had just happened in the last five minutes.
