Chapter 03: Meeting Kate's dad
A/N: Hi, everyone. I'm back. This chapter turned out to be a bit on the dark side for we learn a bit of Kate's background story.
The next morning Bandit woke up surprised. No sound of playing children. No daughters watching him waking up. The moment he fully realized the situation he was in, he was fully awake. „Chilli, I think something's wrong. Do you hear the girls?" „No, hun. I'm still sleeping." she answered not wanting to listen to anything at all right then. Bandit knowing his daughters didn't think twice to rush and look if there would be something off. After all it was the first time waking up on his own for, well since he was on that six week business trip. „So, where are those little monsters?" he muttered to himself mostly joking. When entering the girl's room he noticed Bluey and Bingo still in bed which confused him even more. „All right, kiddos. Time to get up. We don't want to be late." „Morning, dad" they answered unisono. „Morning. Up and into the bathroom. Do us all a favour and get washing." He then looked around searching for someone. „Do any of you kids know where Kate is?" „Yes, we do." Bandit waited a moment before he realized he wouldn't get more information. „Okay, and where is she?" „Not here." they answered before starting to giggle. Bandit normally in for some fun couldn't stand it that morning. „Bluey, Bingo, if I ask you a serious question I want a serious answer, got it?" „Got it!" „So I'm asking again. Where is she?" „Not in your room, either." Bluey answered this time not flanked by her little sister. „Bluey. I want an answer. Where is she?" „She's in the kitchen." Bingo told her father. „The kitchen? Why would she be there?" „Not to brush her teeth." „Bluey! Enough! You'll get a time out until breakfast's ready." „WHAT? That's not fair!" she whined. „It's totally fair" her father answered. „I asked you to stop the game but you kept on playing. We're responsible for our guest. I don't want it but I think it's time you learn to decide when it's okay to keep on playing and when you should stop." „But I …" „No, Bluey. I have to go to the kitchen now and you can think about your actions. Maybe have a little talk with your sister. She didn't get a time out for she realized it would be uncalled for to keep playing." He didn't see the look on Bluey's face for he was actually almost halfway down the hall to get to the kitchen. Bingo however noticed and became sad for she didn't want to get her sister into trouble. „Bluey" she asked. „Are you mad at me?" Looking over at her little sister Bluey's bad mood seemed to change. „Why should I?" „'Cause I did get you into trouble." „(Sigh) No, Bingo. I'm not mad at you. Come here." And with that said Bluey herself scooted over a bit on her bed to allow Bingo to sit next to her both of them embracing each other in a hug. That was what Chilli was seeing when she made her way downwards to start preparing breakfast.
„KATE! WHAT ARE YOU DOING THERE?" Bandit cried out. Everyone in the Heeler's house could hear it. The three girls still being upstairs came rushing down to find out what the matter was. „Don't you see, Bluey's dad? I'm preparing breakfast right now. Don't worry, it'll be ready soon enough." To say Bandit was pleased would be a lie. He didn't have the patience to deal with such nonsense this morning. „Stop it. You could hurt yourself. Those knives are really sharp." „I know, Bluey's dad. That's why I'm really careful. At home I make breakfast almost every morning or at least every second or third. I'm still losing count. But whatever." „What?" Neither Bandit nor Kate noticed Chilli, Bluey and Bingo entering the kitchen. That's why they were surprised by the little outburst. „I really should have a talk with your parents." Chilli said having a look in her face Kate couldn't interpret.
-TIME SKIP-
The day at Glasshouse Primary School went over with no major incidents. Except for the part that Chloe tricked Bluey into playing with her instead of with 'the new kid'. But according to Kate she was okay with it since Chloe was Bluey's best friend. Besides she told Bluey that she needed to read one of her books. Calypso wanted to help her new student to get close to the others but she couldn't force them to play with each other. It's no surprise that Bluey didn't have a great day for with playing Chloe's games they always got near Kate and everytime Bluey felt like she would abandon her new friend because Chloe and the others wouldn't want to give her a chance. In the afternoon when her mum got there to get her she chose to speak to her teacher. „Calypso?" „Yes, Bluey?" „Why is everyone excluding Kate? She's nice and fun. But the other kids don't want to see that." Calypso thought a moment. „You remember the first time you were staying over at Chloe's?" „Yeah?" „What did you say were your thoughts?" „Erm … Oh, I know. 'What if they're different than me and don't like the way I am?'" Bluey got the point Calypso tried her to get. „But that's not true. Kate is a kid just like us. Although she's a cat. But I like her." „Thanks, Bluey." Bluey was shocked to see Kate standing in the doorway. Well there was something strange. „Kate? Did you fall or something?" „Yeah, I fall. You got it. Bluey, my father's here. He wants to take me home but your mum insists to talk with him and Mrs Calypso first." „Okay, bring them in. Oh, and one thing, dear. Please don't call me Mrs. Just Calypso is enough. Everyone calls me that. See you kids tomorrow."
„I must say I don't feel like it's right that your daughter has to do the housework all by herself." „Did she say that? That little …" „No swearing! I'm trying to teach the children to become good adults and that includes at least decent manners. I must say I agree with Mrs Heeler, though. But would you mind telling us your side of the story, please?" Calypso really tried her best to stay calm. But this conversation was striking a nerve. 'How can a father be so cold to his child?' she asked herself. „Well, I do mind, it's none of your business." 'Stay calm, Calypso. Stay calm.' „And what was that slap earlier?" „WHAT?" Calypso couldn't control her anger any longer. She was already fed up with that 'father'. But he had the nerve to slap his own child? That's a point where she could no longer stay still. „YOU WERE SLAPPING YOUR CHILD? OUT! AND DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT TAKING KATE WITH YOU!" Hearing Calypso scream shocked not only Chilli but also Bluey and Kate who were waiting in front of Calypso's office in order to wait for their parents to come out. With a little delay Kate's father was the first one leaving the room not even looking for his daughter who soon realized he would go without her which caused her to collaps onto the floor breaking into tears. Fortunately Bluey was there to comfort her even though she didn't know what was going on or if she could help at all. But she saw her friend in grieve and wanted to help. That was seen by Calypso and Chilli and without another word they agreed that it would be best for Kate when she lived with the Heeler's for the time being.
A/N: That's it. The third chapter. I don't like Kate's dad. I noticed the show to strike really difficult aspects of life. And unfortunately there are kids living a life like Kate's. Hope you enjoyed it even if it was a bit darker this time. The next chapters will be more upbeat again. Though I have to say Bluey's game that morning was fun to write. Being back soon.
