Slumber Party

"Why do I have to sleep in the dumb ol' baby's room?" Angelica complained as they approached the house.

Drew placed a hand on her shoulder. "I know you aren't happy but we need to spend the weekend here while they paint the house and Tommy's mostly sleeping through the night-"

"He's gonna keep me up!" Angelica complained. "He's a baby. I'm a big girl!"

Drew considered this; Tommy was still a baby and could possibly wake Angelica up with his crying. "Hey, how about this… what if we brought down some blankets and you and I camped in the living room? We could watch some of your cartoons and maybe even set up a little blanket tent…" Drew was going to sleep on the couch anyway so it would make for a fun adventure for Angelica. Make the entire trip more appealing. And he was sure Stu and Didi wouldn't mind.

"That would be fun…" Angelica said, warming up to the idea before adding, "and I wouldn't have to deal with Tommy."

"Be nice," Drew reminded her as the door opened.

So Angelica, knowing her daddy was watching, decided rather than give into her first instinct and mess around with Tommy, instead just ignored him and played with her toys. Which was okay because Tommy mostly just minded his own business, sucking on his bottle.

The only issue to come up was nap time, as she didn't want to sleep in Tommy's room. But her daddy had told her that she had to, at least for her nap.

"What's a slumber party?" Tommy asked.

"It doesn't matter because we aren't having one. Daddy and I are going to camp in the living room and you get to stay in the stinky baby room." She sniffed; it didn't actually smell stinky, as Didi was very good about cleaning the room. Well, Tommy's room. After finding Lou's magazine collection she'd stopped going into HIS bedroom!

Angelica thought about opening the window though to get some fresh air but she saw that Uncle Stu had put one of those child-proof locks on the windows so she just turned her back on Tommy.

"But… mommy said we were having a slumber party," Tommy asked. "What is it?"

But Angelica never answered and Tommy finally sighed and went to sleep.

Later that night Tommy lay awake in bed, wishing he could go camping with Angelica and his Uncle Drew. He got out his screwdriver and opened the crib up, lowering himself to the ground and making his way towards the stairs… only to remember that his daddy had set up a gate at the stairs to make sure he couldn't go down them. And he couldn't get his screwdriver to open it!

Tommy let out a disappointed sigh and went to bed. Yes, he had a good night's sleep (and didn't get sick) but… he felt… thwarted.

Angelica, on the other hand, had a fun weekend with her dad. And no babies.
