Mirrorland
"Pop, let's get this mirror moved. I don't want Tommy breaking it."
"Well… so much for that," Chuckie said as Didi and Lou moved the mirror.
"It's not fair, Chuckie!" Tommy exclaimed in anger. "All I wanted to do was go to Mirrorland! Is that so much to ask? My mommy isn't fair! She never lets me have any funs! She doesn't let me go out into other peopleses yards or drink the funny smelling stuff under the sink … why doesn't she want me to play!?"
"She's just trying to protect you, Tommy."
"I don't wanna be protected!" Tommy snapped. "I wanna have fun! I bet in Mirrorland Mommy lets me do whatever I want…"
"Now it's time for some adventures!" Tommy declared to his new Mirrorland friends. They happily dug through the bathroom closet and drank the soap (it tasted like nanas!). They banged on the door and Tommy's parents happily let them go outside! Tommy got into his daddy's car and drove it around… in the sky!
"This is great, Tommy!" Mirror Phil said.
"Yup!" Mirror Lil added. She stood there for a moment. "Okay, we need ta go home now! Bye!" And with that the twins hurried along, as did Mirror Chuckie, leaving Tommy to toddle back to his house alone.
He entered and frowned when he saw his parents eating supper already. They always waited for him. He held up his hands but mommy just ignored him, which made no sense. Mommy always noticed when he wanted to be lifted up-
Except it wasn't Mommy. This was Mirror Mommy.
Tommy pressed his lips together and climbed up his highchair, nearly falling a few times but finally making it. But when he did mommy just handed him a bowl of mush. She didn't help him at all. No silly games or songs like normal. She just ignored him.
Tommy ate his supper only for his parents to leave, turning off the lights while he was still in there. Tommy hurriedly tried to follow but they were so quick he couldn't keep up! He then tried to find his room but the entire house was different. The toys were the wrong colors and the doors led to the wrong rooms. When he reached his room Mirror Mommy was waiting but because everything was backwards she took off his clean diapee and forced him to wear a cold dirty one! Tommy cried but she just put him in bed without singing any songs or giving him a kiss… and that's when Tommy saw the scary things in the shadows.
"In Mirrorland Mommy doesn't protect you…" the shadows taunted "…she let's us TAKE YOU!" Tommy screamed as they grabbed him but Mommy never came-
"Tommy!" Didi said, walking over and picking him up, breaking him from his daydream. "How did you get out? We need to get a taller play-oompf!" Didi shifted as Tommy hugged her tight, thankful that she loved him and wanted to protect him.
