No Bones About It
"Alright now scout, let's take a look at all this!" Lou said as he finished paying for his ticket and ushered the babies inside the museum. He was rather proud of what he'd come up with to keep the kids inline. Didi and Stu were far too often letting the sprouts walk around on their own or carrying them, meaning their arms got tired and they had to set them down. And that was when the babies, especially Tommy, tried to wander off.
Lou, having raised two boys all the way to adulthood, knew that if you took your eyes on a little one for even a second they would go running off as fast as their tiny legs could carry them. So Phil and Lil sat in the double stroller that Betty had given them while Tommy rode in a backpack carrier. That meant that Lou only had to hold Chuckie's hand but the red head was the most mild of the babies and the least likely to run off.
Which was exactly what Tommy was planning to do. 'The moment my grandpa sets me down I'm gonna go get a gift for Spike! He'll like that!' Tommy had gone plenty of places with his grandpa and knew that pretty soon he'd get tired, sit down, and take a nap! And then Tommy could run off and have fun!
"Heh, thank goodness the doc got me on that new medication!" Lou said as they went down the ramp to look at the dinosaur skeleton. "I'd have already been tired completely out if I wasn't on it! But now, heheh, I feel like I could run a marathon!" He winced as the backpack shifted and cut into his shoulder a touch. "Well, maybe not a full one…"
As the day went on Tommy got concerned. His grandpa wasn't sitting down. He hadn't taken any of them out of their strollers or carriers. Yes, the museum was really interesting and Tommy loved seeing the big bones and the funny animals… but when was grandpa going to take his nap? When could he go on an adventure?
"Alright sprouts, time to go!"
Go? Tommy looked around wildly. No… it wasn't time to go yet! They hadn't sat on the bench and grandpa hadn't begun to snore! Tommy had been stuck in the carrier the entire time! He hadn't gotten a chance to walk around and get in trouble or do anything he normally did! It wasn't until he was in his car seat and they were pulling away from the museum that it dawned on him that… they were done.
There would be no adventure today.
"….WAAAAA! WAAAAA! WAAAA!"
"Aw, I know it was fun there but we need to get home!" Lou said before focusing on the drive.
Tommy though just kept crying.
Meanwhile at the house…
"Who's the best doggie?" Stu asked as he pet Spike. "Who's the best doggie?"
Spike. Spike was best doggie.
