Beach Blanket Babies
"Tommy!"
The baby yelped, nearly dropped the fish bowl. He'd been moving to dump the sea moneys into the white toy chest his grandpa had brought out when his mommy had walked into the room. Tommy, knowing she would try and stop him just like his grandpa had with Chuckie, raced forward as fast as his little legs could carry him. 'Don't worry sea moneys, we'll-'
"No no no!" his mommy said, grabbing the bowl. Tommy tried to hang on but the bowl was slippery and he lost his grip, plopping down on his diapered bottom. "You can't run around with this! You might spill it!"
"Chuckie grab the sea monkeys again?" Lou called out.
"No, Tommy did. I think we need to put this high up where little hands can't reach it. Nice and safe." Tommy and Chuckie watched on as Didi put the fish bowl on a high shelf. Even if they jumped as high as they could they'd never reach it. "We really need this trip," Didi said. "The boys have energy to burn."
"That they-WHOA THERE!" Lou rushed past Didi just as Tommy tried to drag the coffee table over to the bookcase where the sea monkeys were now sitting. "That ain't safe at all, sprout!"
Tommy squirmed and thrashed as his grandpa picked him up. He had to help the sea moneys! He'd promised! "Chuckie! Grab'em!"
But his mommy already pulled Chuckie away. "Sorry boys but you can't play with the sea monkeys now. We need to get ready for the beach."
Tommy began to cry as his mommy took the two of them upstairs. He'd promised! He'd promised the sea moneys! But his mommy wasn't letting him help them! And he knew why! She didn't want him having any fun because she wanted him to turn back into a baby baby! Well he wouldn't do it! Never!
Didi set him down and turned to get Chuckie changed. Tommy waited til Chuckie had her distracted before he raced forward, tiny feet pounding on the carpet. He knew what he'd do! He'd get down the stairs and he'd climb the bookcase himself and he'd get the sea moneys and-
Tommy tripped over his own feet and plopped down face first.
He sat there for a moment, utterly stunned, nose aching…
"WAAAAA! WAAAA!"
"Oh baby, it's okay!" his mommy said, picking him up and rocking him. "That's why we can't go darting about! Let me see…" she looked him over. "I think you are okay… but with this much energy I'll need to keep a close eye on you are the beach."
And she did. Tommy was able to do a lot of stuff at the beach like build sand castles and play in the waves. But his mommy never let him out of her sight and yanked him back when he spotted something fun he wanted to touch. She kept him safe, like the sea moneys.
Or a baby baby.
