A Visit From Lipschitz

Didi frowned as she looked at Dr. Lipschitz. She'd been rather excited to have him over for dinner but the more she thought about it the more… odd… the situation seemed. After all, he was a famed child psychiatrist. He had an entire line of books, a phone line, a TV show, and several hospitals named after him. Yet this famous and powerful man… accepted a random invite for goulash from a mother he met at a book store?

Then there was the fact that he claimed everything they did with Tommy was horrible and wrong… even though Tommy loved it. For goodness sake the man had stolen Tommy's book, made him sob, then demanded she NOT comfort Tommy at all! Her poor baby had been screaming his head off in despair and she'd sat there on the floor like an idiot! What if that was his first memory, of her allowing a strange German man to steal his book and her doing nothing? She should really consult Lipschitz- what was she saying?!

And now he was suggesting that she leave her son… the one he'd yelled at for squirting ink on him and made cry… alone in the house?

"No, Dr. Lipschitz, I think I'll just wait for Stu to return. I don't want to leave Tommy and Chuckie alone."

"Go after him! I will watch the children."

"…you?" Didi said, the warning bells that had been going off in her head becoming full on klaxons.

"Who better? In fact I would say that Tommy would be better off with me than with a friend or a family member… or even his mommy." That was rather sinister. "I will watch him. Observe him." He got close to Didi… far too close… eyes wide and a slightly deranged smile on his lips. "Caaarrrrre for him." He pulled away. "Unless I decide to take a bath…"

Didi just stared back.

~Two Hours Later~

"Its for the best," Didi said as she tossed another one of Lipschitz's books onto the large bonfire she'd made in the backyard. Tommy and Chuckie were close by, happily eating marshmallows as the fire burned. "The man clearly was deranged. Knew nothing about how to raise a special little guy like our Tommy."

"That's what I've been saying this entire time," Lou declared.

"Uh, Deeds?" Stu said. "How did you get the bonfire so big so quick?"

"Yes," Didi said, walking over and lifting Tommy up, the baby giggling and hugging her, "from now on we listen to people we trust."

"And what did happen to Dr. Lipschitz?" Stu asked as Lou and Chas tossed more books into the blaze.

"From now on I trust my instincts!" Didi said to Tommy, lifting him up and rubbing his nose against hers.

"Why does that log look like a human femur?!" Stu exclaimed.

"I think we should all just forget this dinner ever happened and never speak about it again."

Stu swallowed. "Heheh… right."
