Feeding Hubert

"Hello?" Didi said, picking up the phone. "Yes, I'd love to do an interview… in fact I think I have a wonderful angle for you. I'm a mother of a one year old and leaving to travel all the way across town to go to the recycling plant simply isn't an option. As such I have a garage full of paper and cans; I don't throw them away but I am sure there are plenty who give in and just do."

"Oh, that would be wonderful, Mrs. Pickles! Will next Monday work for you?"

"Absolutely!" Didi hung up. "Stu? Remember how I asked you to take all that stuff to the recycling center? Hold off. Just get rid of the trash, okay?"

"Sure thing, Didi."

Tommy, who had been listening, gasped.

"You guys, what are we gonna do?" Tommy asked his friends on a rare time they were allowed out of the playpen. "If we don't feed Hubert enough monster food he'll eat us!"

"Monster food?" Angelica said. "What are you dumb babies talking about?" Tommy quickly explained about Hubert, causing Angelica to roll her eyes in disgust. "That isn't monster food its garbage! The garbage truck eats garbage!"

"It does?" Chuckie asked.

"Yeah! Of course you babies are basically garbage machines with how much you poop and spit up…"

"That's it guys!" Tommy exclaimed. "We have to make a lot of garbage for Hubert!" He quickly ran off to grab anything he could find, his friends joining him.

Angelica rolled her eyes and went to find her aunt, knowing if she didn't SHE'D get blamed for this. "Aunt Didi, the babies are grabbing things and throwing them in the trash cans!"

"What?" Didi exclaimed, stepping away from the table and hurrying out to find Tommy dragging Stu's pajamas to the garage, Lou's bowling trophy and some of Didi's books already tossed in by Phil, Lil, and Chuckie. "No!" she said, rushing over and grabbing the stuff. "Tommy!"

But Tommy kept trying to take the items to the garbage, the other babies grabbing what Didi pulled out and tossing it back in. Finally Didi yelled for Stu and the two of them yanked the kids out of the garage. Tommy, upset that his parents weren't going to feed Hubert and let HIM get eaten, began to struggle against her, thrashing about in desperation.

"Well, someone is getting a time out," she said, taking Tommy to his room while Stu called for the Devilles and Chas to pick up their kids.

Tommy tried several times to get garbage for Hubert over the weekend but was thwarted… but when Monday came he watched in confusion as Hubert just ate the one can and that was it.

"I guess he's full," Tommy said before turning towards his room… which was kind of empty seeing as his parents had locked up everything to keep him from trying to toss it in the trash. "I hope I can get my toys back…"
