Grandpa Moves Out

"Stu, I need that spatula," Didi said, annoyed.

"There is another one in the drawer, Deed," he pointed out.

Didi let out a sigh. "You're right… sorry about that. I'm just stressed about this dinner. It's the first one we've had since Tommy was born and I want it to go right."

"It will," Stu said just as Lou walked in. "Hey pop."

"Hiya sport. Gettin' ready for that big dinner?"

"I am. And I'm using mom's recipe so no orange juice with the cutlets!"

Lou laughed at that as he hung up his fishing hat and set his rod down in a corner. "Your mother never could stand those, could she?" He walked over and patted Tommy on the head. "Hey sprout, I don't think that's for you." He took the carrot away from Tommy only for the baby to begin to scream.

"Pop!" Didi exclaimed. "what did you do?!"

Lou lifted Tommy up and began to bounce him around. "Tommy was tryin' ta nibble on this carrot. Figured ya didn't want baby spit in the salad."

"Didi…" Stu warning.

She sighed again. "I'm sorry Lou, I shouldn't have snapped."

"Its fine. Hey, why don't I take Tommy for a walk? You know how that gets him nice and sleepy. We already fed him an early supper so then he'll go right down when you get back and the three of us can focus on our dinner."

"Sounds like a plan! Come out Tommy, you and grandpa are going on an adventure!"

THAT instantly calmed the baby down. An adventure! It had been so long!

Lou carried Tommy, pointing out different houses as they made their way down the sidewalk, only to stop when- "Jim? Jimbo!"

A man Lou's age waved to him, hurrying across the street to greet Lou. "How are ya, Lou?"

"I'm good! But what are ya doin' here? Last I heard you were at some fancy retirement home."

Jim scoffed. "Turns out it was a scam. My kids got me out and we are looking into suing them…"
