The Stork

"Mommy… where do babies come from?"

Drew and Charlotte shared a look, startled by that question. They should have seen it coming but still they were startled by it.

"Well… I'm not sure," Charlotte said quickly. "But Susie's mommy is a doctor and she knows a lot about babies so we can ask her!"

"Oh… okay!" Angelica went back to slurping her spaghetti while Drew and Charlotte made a note to call Lucy so they could gameplan.

"Its no trouble at all," Lucy said the next day in the Pickles back yard. "I've dealt with this with all my kids and I have it down to a science."

"Thank you so much," Drew said with relief, shoulders slumped and head tilted forward. "I was trying to figure out a clever lie… like the stork or a cabbage patch or a baby store…"

"Oh, that's never a good idea," Lucy said, none of the adults noticing that Tommy, Chuckie, Phil, and Lil were listening carefully. "That just makes more confusion for them. No… better to be upfront and honest."

"Up-" Charlotte began only for Lucy to cut her off.

"Simple though. Angelica!" The little girl ran up and smiled at Susie's mom. "So you want to know where babies come from?"

"Yup!"

"Well, when a mommy and daddy love each other very much sometimes they are able to work a bit of magic to make a baby."

"And it just appears?" Angelica said. "Like wishing with a genie."

"no, not quite like that." Lucy looked around before spotting Didi. "Angelica, do you remember what your Aunt looked like just before Tommy was born?"

"Yeah! She got a really big belly!"

"Well, when a mommy and a daddy do their magic the baby grows in the mommy."

"…get out of here!" Angelica said.

"Its true. When you are a bit older I'll explain because its frankly VERY boring but-" Lucy only continued on for a few more sentences as 'boring' was the key word to make Angelica zone out.

Meanwhile the babies all looked at each other. "Wow… so that's where we came from!" Chuckie said.

Lil nodded. "We came from our mommies!"

"That's why we love'em so much!" Phil declared. "Hey Tommy, you think your mommy and daddy might ever have another baby?"

"I don't know," Tommy admitted. "I hope so. I'd love a brother or sister. One that is fun and adventurous and we could play games and tell each other stories… and they'd be super nice and never boop me on the head! And we'd share toys-"

Up in Heaven a Jelly-Bean-Headed Soul squirmed but the Creator held him firm, forcing him to watch.

"You listen good, Dil," the blond Chaos God snapped. "Because if you don't learn I will make DAMN sure your parents time-out you for every hit you give Tommy you annoying little potato!"

"Blib!"

"Oh yeah? Then I'll make all the aliens disappear too!"

"GOB!" Dil said in fear.

"Thought so."
