Angelica Breaks A Leg
"Uncle Stu, will you take me to the zoo?"
Stu patted his niece on the shoulder. "Not today, but maybe Saturday-" Angelica opened her mouth to complain but Stu continued talking, "-but I know tomorrow Grandpa Lou wants to take you to the aquarium."
"Really?"
"Oh yes," Didi said. "And it's going to be supper in a half an hour… even if we left now we'd get to the zoo when it was closing."
Angelica considered that. It was awfully late in the afternoon. Tommy was watching Captain Blasto and she knew that meant the dumb baby would soon be taking a nap. And he always took a nap before dinner. And if she were going to the zoo she really did want to wait until they had the full day.
"Now, you can go watch TV with Tommy and Grandpa or you can play by yourself for a bit then help me make dinner."
Angelica nodded at that, deciding that she'd go play with Cynthia. She didn't care for Captain Blasto and Tommy-
"AAAAAAA!" Angelica cried out, stepping on a kaleidoscope tube Tommy had left on the ground, pinwheeling her arms before she fell back and crashed into the steps.
~Two Hours Later~
"Peaches… Peaches… here we are. It is clear from this that Angelica suffered a compound fracture," Dr. Dooser stated.
Stu just stared at the boy in the labcoat. "…we'd like another doctor."
"Sir, I might be young but I know a broken leg when I see one-"
"We want a second opinion," Stu repeated, shifting Tommy.
"Sir," Dr. Dooser said more firmly, eyes narrowed, "I am telling you that Angelica needs a full leg cast." Angelica, meanwhile, was holding an ice pack against her head, a bit sleepy from the medicine they'd given her.
"And I'm tell YOU she hit her head, not her leg. They didn't even take X-Rays of her leg!"
"Mr. Peaches-"
"Pickles! Stu Pickles you-" Didi grabbed Stu's arm to keep him calm. "I want another doctor, now."
"I will not be talked to this way by a man with half my intelligence," Dr. Dooser declared, shifting on the phone book he was sitting on. "Now, we are going to prep Angelica-"
"Screwing up with another patient again?" an older man said as he limped into the office, leaning on a cane.
"I have this taken care of, Grouse," Dooser said.
"I'll see about that," Dr. Grouse said, snatching the folder from Dooser with the X-ray. "Oh yes, this girl has a serious problem with her leg-" Dooser smirked, "-because she has the leg of a 25 year old man!"
Dooser paled as it dawned on him that he'd switched up the files. "Uh… maybe we can just… pretend this never happened?"
Grouse scoffed. "Oh no, you quack. This is your 5th mistake this week… you are so fired!" He turned to Stu and Didi. "Kid's fine, just a bump."
A relieved Pickles family left.
Angelica did get to go to the zoo Saturday.
