Pickles Vs. Pickles
"Why can't I have just cookies?" Angelica asked as she looked at the food laid out on the dinner table.
"Because while cookies taste good-" Drew began.
"Because they do."
He chuckled. "You can't just eat cookies all the time."
"Why not?"
Drew considered this, knowing that with how smart Angelica was she wouldn't just accept, "Because I say so" or "you just can't".
"Remember how much you enjoyed that episode of Cynthia PI last night?"
"Where she fought the Tiger? Oh yeah!"
Drew smiled. "Well, you'd enjoy watching it again, right?" Angelica nodded. "But what if that was ALL you watched?" She frowned before nodding, accepting that it would get old fast. "That's how it is with any food, not just cookies. Its why we have different suppers every night, so we don't get tired of stuff."
"Oh!" Angelica said before frowned. "But I really don't want to eat broccoli." She pointed at the dish.
"And that is fine. But remember the rules."
Angelica sighed. "I have to try one bite. And if I don't like it I still have to pick out something to replace it."
"Exactly."
What he didn't tell Angelica until after supper, when she tried one bite of broccoli and declared she hated it, was that the cheddar rice she asked to have seconds of had broccoli in it. Angelica had been amazed at that and asked if there were other food that could go in yummy things.
Which is how Drew and Charlotte ended up getting a carrot cake for their next celebration.
