Something had startled Jamie awake. Taking a moment to get his bearings, he tried to pull Eddie closer but found her side of the bed empty and cold. His heart began to beat faster, and he felt panic beginning to rise. But he took a breath to try and calm himself. Rising from the bed, he turned the lights on. Making his way over to the bathroom he turned on the light.
"Eddie?"
He held his breath as he pulled back the shower curtain, half expecting her to have fallen in the shower. Nothing. Throwing some clothes on, he continued to look around the apartment. When he found the apartment was completely empty, the hair on his neck began to stand on end. He'd check with his dad and pop, if that yielded nothing, he'd try Danny and Linda. Jamie wasn't going to bring Eddie's mom Lena into this. The last time her and Eddie had spoken, they'd had a big argument. If any of the family had no clue as to the whereabouts of Eddie, he'd start scouring all the hospitals in the city, seeing if anyone had been brought in matching Eddie's description. He hoped it wouldn't come down to that. His racing mind was suddenly halted when his phone began to ring in his pocket. Pulling it out he saw that it was Henry. He picked up his phone.
"Pop?"
On the other end of the line, Jamie could hear his grandfather's voice. It was filled with concern.
"Jamie, I have your beautiful bride at the dining room table here. She hasn't said much."
Jamie blew out a sigh of relief and answered.
"What? How'd she get all the way to Bay Ridge?"
He listened to Henry on the other end.
"I'm not sure Jamie. But she doesn't seem like herself. She's distant. She's been here about 20 minutes."
Jamie was getting his coat on as he answered Henry.
"Ok pop. I'll be there in about 25 minutes. Keep her calm."
The whole drive to Bay Ridge had Jamie on edge. He was glad to know Eddie was with his dad and pop, but he was concerned that Eddie seemed distant. Finally reaching his grandfather's and father's house, he got out of the car and locked it. Reaching for his key in his coat pocket he slipped it into the lock and turned it, opening up the front door. Taking the key out he placed it back into his pocket and entered the house, closing the front door and re-locking it. Slowly making his way into the dining room, he found Eddie sitting at the table, in the spot she normally occupied during Sunday dinner. Jamie knelt down in front of her. She didn't seem to notice he'd entered the room. Concern twisted in his gut as he tried to get her to respond.
"Eddie, you scared me. Don't wander off like that. I didn't know if I was going to find you in the hospital or somewhere else…"
His gut twisted more as Eddie didn't respond but looked at something invisible in front of her. He looked to Henry and now realized that Frank was standing in the room.
"Do you think she's sleep walking? I don't want to startle her if she is."
Henry was about to answer when Jamie felt Eddie's hand gripping his forearm and then he heard her speak.
"Jamie? What am I doing in pop and dad's house? How'd I get here?"
Swallowing, he looked at her with concern written across his face.
"You don't remember?"
Eddie shook her head and looked down at herself.
"No. Jamie? What's going on?"
Jamie shook his head.
"I don't know. Do you sleepwalk?"
Shaking her head no again, she became more confused.
"This happened to me yesterday too. I was doing laundry one minute and the next I found myself in the kitchen cooking you breakfast. What's going on?"
Jamie took Eddie's face in his hands and kissed her forehead.
"I'm not a doctor babe, but it sounds like you are blacking out. We should get you to the doctor. Or it could be you sleep walking, but we should just make sure."
The trip to the hospital didn't take too long since it was the middle of the night. Eddie didn't have much wait time because of her condition. The nurses redlined her back to get checked out. Everything took about 2 hours. Eddie tried to get comfortable in the hospital bed the nurses had placed her in. Frowning, she looked at Jamie.
"This is ridiculous Jamie. Why do I need to be on a monitor? I feel fine."
Jamie gave her an incredulous look.
"Really? You feel fine? Your heart rate says otherwise. You're sitting still and yet you're running a marathon at the same time. So no, you're not fine babe. Just try and relax, ok? We'll figure this out."
Jamie could tell Eddie was irritated and tired. He rubbed a thumb over her knuckles of her left hand and then kissed them. The door to the room opened and in came a Doctor Larson.
"Hi Jamie, Eddie. I'm Doctor Larson. Sorry it's taken so long. We just now got the results back from the MRI. The MRI we performed didn't turn up anything abnormal. I saw in your chart that you've got End Stage Kidney Disease. Your blood pressure seems to be holding on the seven different medications your on to help control it. Including a blood pressure patch. In the meantime, we're going to keep you here another hour and give you something to bring your heart rate down. I'm a bit concerned that it's in the high 170's. If we don't get your heart rate back down, it'll throw your heart out of sinus rhythm causing you to have a heart attack. I'll have a nurse come and give you some Metoprolol. Other than that, everything checks out."
Jamie furrowed his eyebrows.
"So, she;s just sleepwalking then?"
Doctor Larson looked at Jamie seriously.
"I've seen many patients who exhibit sleepwalking. Some have driven cars. Gone shopping. Cooked whole family dinners. I would've been more concerned if she were driving a car or wandering into traffic. Just in case I'm going to refer her to a specialist. They can take a closer look at her and determine if she's sleepwalking or something else."
Jamie tried not to give a frustrated sigh.
"Thanks doc."
An hour later, the couple was headed home now that Eddie's heart rate was stabilized. She was exhausted. When they got home, Eddie went straight to their bedroom. As soon as her head hit the pillow, she fell asleep. Jamie's concern grew deeper as the next few days went by and it happened six more times. Something was wrong.

A/N: Do you guys think Eddie should've told Jamie about what happened to her before it happened a second time? Let me know what your thoughts are. Thanks!
