The Old Country
"Didi, I get that your parents love their cabin but I really don't think this is a good idea."
Gently unwrapping Dil's hands from her necklace Didi stared at Stu, confused. "Oh, this isn't about you not being able to watch TV, is it?"
"No," Stu said with a scoff. "This is me thinking about our family!"
"I know you have a problem with roughing it after you got lost in the forest last year, Stu, but it will be fine." She smiled, looking down at Dil who had stuffed his fist into his mouth. "Think of it as an adventure."
Tommy, who had been listening in as he and Chuckie played with a picture book, let out a gasp. "You hear that, Chuckie! We're gonna go on an adventure!"
"Are you sure it is safe though?" Chuckie asked nervously.
"Of course its safe, Chuckie! Its an adventure! No one gets hurt on an adventure!" Tommy grabbed onto his feet and began to rock back and forth. "And you know what's even better? This is gonna be Dil's FIRST adventure! He's gonna learn how great adventures are and how fun and how exciting they are and-"
"I get that your folks want to see the kids, Didi," Stu continued on, "but you do remember they are babies, right? How are we going to properly warm Dil's bottles? And what are we going to do about giving them baths? That cabin doesn't even have indoor plumbing."
"Oh my," Didi said, pressing a hand to her mouth. "I didn't even think about that. I got swept up in the romance of it all…"
Stu continued on, seeing that he had a chance to nip the problem in the bud. "And when is the last time they insolated that place? Remember what it was like the last time we visited? It got so cold we all had to bundle up in blankets next to the fire." Didi smiled at that, remembering well how lovely that had been… only to look down at Dil…
"Okay sweeties," Didi said, going to the little cribs that were set up in the cabin, "time for your-"
She dropped the bottle as she stared in horror at the three little ice cubes that had Tommy, Dil, and Chuckie frozen inside.
"You're right Stu. I'll call my parents and suggest we just stay at their house. Maybe when the kids are older…"
Tommy's eyes went wide at that. Older… but he was older! He was a big kid!
"It was crazy to think of bringing a 6 month old out there…"
Dil. Tommy stared at his brother. It was his brother's fault they didn't get to go on an adventure!
Dil looked at Tommy… and swallowed nervously when he saw the glare his brother was giving him.
