Hello all! I just wanted to thank you all for the great start to my second ever fanfiction! With that said I also wanted to state that this next two chapters (2+3) will be solely in Ruby's perspective. Its something new for me so I hope you enjoy it. I also wanted to thank all the favorites for this story already from its first chapter alone. I also wanted to respond to the one comment, which I really enjoy, from KHARAKI TAKAN:

When it comes to Summer's death I had a few things in mind, but I thought it was better for the story to be a simple Grimm type. It was also intended that Summer's time living there had rusted her skills which was paired with a bad blow to her back. It was intended that no one thing could kill the huntress but a series of things and the oldest saying in the huntsmen book, even the weakest of blows can be mortal when unexpected.

Once again thank you all and enjoy!

Seven Years Later

Finally a dust shop! Coming out to Vale for Yang's last two weeks before she has to go to Beacon was fun, but this was what I was looking for. A place to get ammunition not usually found on Patch, I had my eye on some special gravity rounds that said they had twenty percent more push power. That's twenty percent more power for my baby to slice through any Grimm! Plus I can totally stop and look at all those weapon magazines that Yang complains that I spend too much time reading. Like she could complain, with that knowledge I had built her weapons for her. What a name too for this place, From Dust Till Dawn! Yang would love this place just for that pun, after all that is all she loves doing outside of partying.

To be honest I quite often found my sister to be overbearing around what she calls her sweet younger sister. Always trying to see if I am ok, telling me to make friends, stop treating Crescent Rose like a child, and the list goes on. Yet I am totally the best in my class for a reason, when I get into a spar I am untouchable. Does my semblance help with that? Well yes, but I don't even rely on it in the fights against my peers. I am quite capable with just my baby and the skills that I have mercilessly worked on for the last five years. True my uncle helped me a lot, especially with my choice of weapon and aura skills, but that is not the point. I knew I was strong and could handle things myself and Yang just didn't understand that.

Yang would always go on about all of my weaknesses, like lower than average aura at my age and lack of close quarters combat. True I have the lowest aura levels of my class back at Signal, but L still had six more years to grow my aura. Plus everyone knows aura grows a lot at the age of sixteen and nineteen. I wasn't any of those ages yet and Yang just liked to hold that over my head. Then the close quarters combat.. That was just eww. I knew I was strong, but all of it was lean muscle earned through my combat exercises. I mean who wouldn't be fit after expertly using a six foot sniper scythe all the time? Plus I relied on mobility above all else and a lean frame really helps that out, unlike Yang's more stocky build. Note to self never say Yang has a stocky build, she may just destroy something.

After searching the store I finally spot the magazine section and know tonights going to be fun, Yang is busy doing something and this store never closes.. So I could have a magazine all to myself for the rest of the night, or until Yang came back to the hotel that our dad booked for us. Most likely the night to myself, Yang quite often would be gone until after the sun came up the next day to get home. She likes to think that she is fooling her little sister in what she is up to, but unfortunately I knew. I knew that she partied and what that all implied. Games, flirting, drinking, and some naughty things.. I knew but never wanted to go to such a thing, true games sound fun but all the rest sucked. Uncle Qrow let me try his flask one time and since then I have sworn off the burning liquid. The flirting and what came afterwards never really excited me personally, especially since Yang was all about guys. Mom had it right, being by yourself was a lot better. Especially in the line of being a huntress, you never knew if you would ever return and I knew what that pain felt like.

I was in my own little world at the moment, hood of my red cloak up and listening to my music while reading weapons magazines. Right now I was reading on how new technology from Atlas has allowed smaller mechanisms and fast transition speeds of weapons. With this I could totally upgrade Crescent Rose and find ways to work more into the deadly weapon. I was thinking that if I could find a reliable power source without sacrificing the stability and functionality of the weapon. With that I could do some much more, I could add powered magnets to the rifling for even more power of my shots. That's if it didn't destroy my baby in the process, at that point I would have to rework all the metal down the sniper barrel to be able to withhold the new force. Yet one thing was for sure: I would totally use it to make a semi automatic mode. True, when I designed Crescent Rose I wanted to have that feel of pulling the bolt down and back up for the shot, but now it just made more sense while fighting to save that precious time and do something else.

While figuring out ways to improve my already highly mechanized weapon, I was pulled on my right shoulder and forced to look behind myself. Almost out of instinct I went "Huh" as my hood fell down. The whole point of having my hood up and listening to music was to not deal with people. I wanted to deal with only weapons and Grimm, nothing else. True huntsmen would have to go after criminals sometimes, but I just wanted to go and help people by fighting man's greatest enemy only. Looking at the man who so rudely grabbed me up and down I came to one conclusion. This man looks so much like a stereotypical bad guy. I mean who else wears a black suit with a bright red tie, red tinted shades at night, and a black top hat.

The man seems to realize that I couldn't hear him and points at his ear to signify that he wanted me to hear him. This better be important as I was so in the zone and close to figuring out the whole power supply thing. I slid the headphones down my neck and said "Yes?"

"I said put your hands in the air now." the man barks back at me.

A moment of silence fills the dust store that is only broken from the music blaring through her headphones.

I couldn't take it, couldn't stand another minute

Couldn't bear another day without you in it

All of the joy that I had known for all my life

Was stripped away from me the minute that you died

I narrowed my eyes and asked "Are you robbing me?" This is great, this man is so doing what everyone thinks he should do with the way that he looks and only if he could see Crescent Rose hiding behind my cloak. Then he would know not to mess with me, of course it's hidden there so I could do something just like this. Oh well I wouldn't tell anyone about that, if they ask I brought it to make sure that the ammunition fit right.

"Yes" the man says as he nods his head along.

"Oh" I simply replied as my left hand grabbed onto the cool metal behind my waist. In one swift movement I pull the compact form of my sniper scythe out and as it slowly starts to unfold into the rifle form I use it to smack him towards the window at the front of the store. With my aura activated the man goes sailing and slams into the wall just under the giant window at the front causing all the loose items against it to topple over him. Shortly after another man runs back towards me with his gun pointed at me and yells "Freeze". At least this guy had the brains to point his weapon at me first before telling me what to do. Not that it helps anymore than the last guy. I quickly dart towards him and leap with my legs stretched out first. Using the force of my run I send him flying back towards the giant window and use him as an impromptu shield as the glass shatters around us.

Once outside of the store now I was standing and looking back towards the men that remained in the store. Some more of his fellow cronies, a guy that was wearing a white topped suit and had orange hair, and the unfortunate shopkeeper. Using the fact that I had so much open space I finally allowed Crescent Rose to fully unveil and show off her awesome scythe form. With a simple twirl of my hands I aimed the barrel of my fully formed sniper at the men still in the store and lodged the end of its blade into the concrete road below. Once again silence came as everyone was staring at the kickass scythe wielding girl in front of them. Once again my music could be heard in this silence.

I wasn't dreaming when they told me you were gone

I was wide awake and feeling that they had to be wrong

How could you leave me when you swore that you would stay?

Now I'm trapped inside a nightmare ever single f'ing day

The obvious boss of these cronies shrugs his shoulders as he is smoking a cigar, totally like you would expect just so stereotypical. He then says "Ok… Get her." With that the three remaining cronies run out of the shop, these guys at least had melee weapons to try and fight off the much superior scythe. All the weapons were the same blood red scimitar-like swords that they raised towards me as if they were trying to threaten me. Threaten me? The little girl currently holding the scythe that is longer than she is tall, who are they joking. The first man swings his sword at me and all I have to do is jump up and hold myself up with my left arm on the scythe, that is still stable in the ground without me holding it up. Good girl, Crescent Rose. I then spin my left hand over and over allowing my body to build momentum as it follows the movements and eventually leads to a solid kick with my two feet against the man's face. He goes flying back into the shop through the broken window and out of sight.

It's like a movie, but there's not a happy ending

Every scene fades black, and there's no pretending

This little fairy tale doesn't seem to end well

There's no knight in shining armor who will wake me from the spell

Continuing my spinning I eventually force myself up with my left arm and pull the scythe out of the ground as I fly up into the air. Once I land down I angle Crescent Rose behind myself on the right side with my left hand on the trigger. They thought that it was only a scythe and I was going to prove the fools wrong. Pushing the trigger fires off the loaded gravity round and with the angle I had it gives me a boost to spin around multiple times and slam the dull side of the scythe in an uppercut motion into the next crony. He goes flying at least ten feet up into the air before gravity once takes him back towards the ground. Ten feet not too bad, but I have personally sent others flying much higher. Not my best show, but more than enough for these losers.

I know you didn't plan this

You tried to do what's right.

But in the middle of this madness

I'm the one you left to win this fight

Twirling around the blade above my head to lose momentum I finally end it all by slamming down the dull side of the blade on top of the next unfortunate fool to get too close to me. With all his little cronies dealt with I get into another combat stance with the weapon once again positioned behind myself as I eyes the man up. I could have sworn that I had seen him somewhere before, but just couldn't think of it. He definitely wasn't someone that my family knew, being a third generation huntsmen family meant no evil doers would cozy up to us. So where have I seen him?

He looks down at the closest knocked out crony and mumbles "You were worth every cent. Truly you were." With that he looks towards me as he grabs the cigar out of his mouth with his left hand and twirling his cane with his right. "Well red I think we can all say it has been an eventful evening." With this he drops his cigar onto the ground and stomps it out with the end of his cane. Sirens could also be heard off in the distance, slowly approaching the two of us still standing in the street. An obvious response to the loud bangs off my baby in the streets of Vale this late at night. "And as much as I would love to stick around.." He lifts up his cane to reveal it's a gun. That is such a cool design, though reloading it must be horrible. "..I'm afraid this is where we part ways." With that he fires a red flare towards me. With the color I could obviously tell that it had fire dust embedded into it and knew I would not want to get hit by that. I quickly twirl the barrel of my sniper scythe towards the ground and fire myself into the air as the flare lands where I was previously standing and explodes. Yep that was what I expected to happen.

Doing a flip in the air I correct my body and land back onto the ground, bending my knees to ensure that I would not be feeling that in the morning. Too many times I had made that mistake before. I start to look around for the man after my successful landing and find that he has disappeared. While I may not like taking on criminals, as a future huntress I would not let one get away. I keep scanning for the cowardly boss of the cronies and eventually spot him climbing a fire ladder up onto a three story building. Easy for me to catch up, such a stupid boss. I start running towards the building and once again aim Crescent Rose's barrel towards the ground firing a short distance away. With my current forward speed and the help of the gravity rounds I sail up and land on top of the building just behind the orange haired man. He notices of course, as I was making no use of stealth at the moment, and turns around.

"Persistent" he says as a bullhead shoots up from the otherside of the building. Its humming engines bring almost a calming effect to myself, reminding me of my many journeys to and from Vale over the last seven years. The man climbs into the open bay doors and yells over the engines "End of the line red!" With this he pulls out a large red dust crystal and tosses it at me. It just tumbles to the ground helplessly and lays in front of my black combat boots, almost teasing me as nothing special was done to it. What is he expecting, dust by itself does nothing and this crystal was already processed and cut. It isn't volatile enough to just explode by itself. While I was studying the random crystal that he threw he aimed his cane and fired at the crystal laying there. Oh, he had more than one round in there. That's his trick with the cane/gun.

This time I knew I couldn't dodge it, so I prepared my aura and body to best shrug off the impending explosion. Just then I see a streak of white in front of myself and the explosion is held off from engulfing me as if a giant shield was standing in its way. Now that I was looking better, the streak of white that I saw was a blonde woman with a white blouse and a black high waisted pencil skirt. She just hums as if the attack was a small explosion that nearly took the roof of the building. All this woman was wielding was a riding crop in her right hand that was aimed at the bullhead that was still hovering there. Omg that is totally Glynda Goodwitch the huntress and combat instructor of Beacon academy in front of me! One of the best huntresses in the kingdom!

With a simple flick of her wrists she sends eight chunks of debris flying at the bullhead fast enough for the entire aircraft to shake and shudder. All I could do was laugh as I saw the orange haired man tumbling about inside of the passenger bay of it, eventually he even lost his cane! So he disappears towards the cockpit of the craft as Glynda summons a giant storm right above the bullhead. With another lick of her wrist a bunch of razor sharp hail comes flying out of the cloud and starts penetrating the bullhead all around. This caused the damaged craft to slightly dip down as a different woman slowly walked into the open passenger bay of the craft. She wore a short red dress with no stockings and clear glass heels. By all looks she was like Yang and wanted to show the entire world her legs that shone in the broken moon's light.

Though I couldn't see the red dressed woman's face I could see her arms of the dress light up in what looked like ancient runes running up the sleeves. Ok so I didn't study ancient runes like I was supposed to at signal, I mean who would? The stuff hasn't been used in hundreds of years with the advancement of dust powered weapons. Of course this one woman who was now having fire literally forming around her hands would. Of course only Ruby Rose would ever face someone who used ancient runes on my very first fight outside of class and training. Life is not fair. The red dressed woman shoots a literal fireball at Glynda and she blocks once again with her telekinesis shield that glows purple now that I am looking at it. Splatters of the red dust that was used to make said fireball splatter all around Glynda and the mysterious woman raises her fiery hand up. With that motion all the splatters glow bright red and Glynda hops away from them.

The next second they explode, leaving a giant hole in the roof of what I hope is a currently closed commercial building and not someone's apartment. With that Glynda aims her crop at the craft and uses the flying debris as a giant debris lance to fire at it. That is so cool! How come other people get all the cool semblances? Glynda then launches it at the bullhead with great speed that I even question if I could keep up with. The mysterious woman then launches even more fireballs at the lance, causing it to blow the debris apart. That is when the debris formed into three separate streams of attack and slammed into the bullhead. Unfortunately the first one that slammed down caused it to lurch to the right side, leaving the final stream to hit just off from the glass cockpit of the bullhead.

Glynda just kept continuing the attack over and over again until the woman in the bullhead stretched her arms out and fire designated all the debris around it. Seeing as Glynda had lost all things to attack the woman with, I transformed my baby back into a rifle and started shooting at the woman. All she did was block my shots with her hand as the bullets disintegrated before it even touched her aura. With her free hand she waved and a punch of red circles appeared on the ground below both Glynda and I. At this Glynda flicked her crop and I was sent flying back as she hoped away from the blast radius. By the time I got back up the bullhead had already disappeared into the night sky.

I turned towards Glynda a gleed "Your Glynda Goodwitch, one of the best huntresses in Vale! Can I have your autograph!?"

Twenty Minutes Later

How I found myself in an integration room I could not tell you at all, especially with the combat instructor of Beacon pacing back and forth across it. She even starts berating me "I hope you realize that your actions tonight will not be taken lightly young lady. You put yourself and others in great danger."

I retorted "They started it, I was simply defending myself!"

She just kept walking and acting like I hadn't even said anything. She then continues "If it were up to me you would be sent home with a pat on the back…" Ok see, I totally did the right thing. I mean I am not a huntress or even a huntress-in-training, but still I have the right to defend myself! "..And a slap on the wrist!" she continued in a raised tone as she slapped the riding crop down hard onto the table. I eeped and jumped back as it barely missed my hand. She then continues on with a sigh "But there is someone here who would like to meet you."

With that a man wearing a green suit that exposed a green button up shirt under that, which also exposed a lighter green under shirt walked in. In one hand he carried a plate of cookies and in the other hand he was holding a cup of coffee. "Ruby Rose… You have silver eyes." he says as he puts the plate of cookies down on the table. I just look at the cookies and silently lament how everyone assumes that I am still a kid. I mean yes they are chocolate chip cookies, my personal favorite. But based on the two others in the room they expect me to eat all the cookies by myself, and there is no way I could do that.

I finally respond to the man's statement "Um, yes I do. Thank you, I guess?"

With that the man carries on as Glynda pulls out a rather large scroll playing a video of the fight I just had in front of the dust shop. "So where did you learn to do this?"

I replied "At Signal Academy."

"They taught you how to use one of the most dangerous weapons ever designed?" he said in a questioning voice.

"Well one teacher in particular did, yes." I simply retorted.

"I see." he calmly states as he eyes the cookies before me. I get the hint that he really wants to see me eat a cookie. Is this some weird fetish or something, in that case no way! He is way too old for me and I don't really like men. Though as it became a little too uncomfortable I grabbed a cookie and slowly started eating it. With this he seemed pleased and continued on "It's just that I have only seen one other scythe wielder of that skill before. A dusty old crow."

"Yes, that is my uncle Qrow. He is a teacher at Signal." I replied after I had swallowed my last bit of the cookie. I don't know where he got these cookies, but they are the second best cookies ever! Of course moms were the best, I miss mom.

With that he sets down his coffee as he sits across from me and asks "So what is an adorable girl such as yourself doing at a school designed to train warriors?"

"Well.. I want to be a huntress." I reply in a semi excited manner. My voice cracks a little though as I said it, the emotions behind that word still get me to this day.

"You want to slay monsters?" he questions.

"Yeah, I only have two more years of training left at Signal. Then I plan to apply to Beacon. My sister is starting there this year so why not go to the same school?" I stated while nodding my head at the man.

"Do you know who I am?" He finally asks the easiest question of the night.

"Yes, you're Ozpin. Headmaster of Beacon, the highest huntsman in all of the Kingdom of Vale. The third headmaster ever at Beacon and the longest running headmaster as well." I replied almost immediately. I mean of all people to have interview you at a police station , he has to be the best ever. Maybe with his knowledge of me I can get into Beacon easily in two years.

"So you want to come to my combat school?" Ozpin asks with a smirk.

"More than anything." I replied happily.

He looks over at Glynda, his school's combat instructor, as she looks down towards him with the same narrow eyes that she had not let up this entire time. She just hums as she rolls her eyes and looks away from him, as if she already knows his answer and doesn't like it. I get a feeling that this happens a lot for her to have that reaction from just a look and now I personally feel pity for the woman. Ozpin then turns back towards me and says "Well ok" with a shrug of his shoulders. OMG! He just gave me the ok to join his school in two years! I don't even need another interview, I can't wait to tell Yang about this later and prove once and for all that I don't need her constantly looking after me.

"Well than Miss Rose I will be expecting you for initiation in two days. I will write a letter to your father about your early admittance." Ozpin clarifies as he begins to stand up and head out of the room.

"What?" is all my mind could speak out at that moment. A quite literal squeak, much to my horror as now I sound so much more like a little kid.

"Beacon school year starts in two days. See you then Miss Rose." with that final jab Ozpin leaves the room. All I can do is go slack jaw and look at Glynda, who is still looking rather stern as she stares me down.

As if she could understand how confused I am she clarifies for the cryptic headmaster that she unfortunately works under "That means you are starting two years early. Something that I don't exactly agree with, but he makes all the final decisions."

"But… But I am fifteen.. I have the lowest aura of my year at Signal… And he wants me to start at Beacon now?" I just mumble out as my brain begins to shut off after the just pure daftness of his decision. To this Glynda just shakes her head as she soon follows her boss and highest huntsmen in all of Vale out of the room. Leaving only the bumbling mess of me behind.

Two Days Later

Lets just say that the journey home had me in complete shock and the following days had me nearly ripping my hair out. I was so close to being free for two years, two whole years. This is my reward for trying to stop the bad guys!? I would much rather have got the slap on the wrist than have to go to Beacon two whole years early with my overbearing sister! I love her, but she expects so much out of me. She wants me to be the pure energetic sister that just oozes innocence, all the while she goes off and does the most idiotic things ever! Then when she is done all she wants to do is be so overbearing on me, and I have to deal with it. At this point I can't even try to act like anything else, because she would instantly think something is wrong and try to protect me. Protect me from what!? I am just trying to be myself!

That is what is currently happening to me at this moment, an overbearing Yang hug. The classic Xiao Long hug that literally crushes all the air out of your lungs. Why is she doing it? Because she is just so excited that I got in two years early with her. So in the desperate struggle to survive I squeak out "Yang, I need air." And where no amount of pushing would ever possibly work, trust me I have tried my entire life, these simple words succeed. She finally lets me go and I gasp for all the air I could. Anything to get that sweet tasting air into my starving lungs, and survive on for another day. Or when Yang hugs me again.. At this point in my life I doubt that being a huntress will kill me and that it will instead be Yang's hugs that end my short life.

Yang finally hops back after her hug and exclaims "I am so proud of you! You got into Beacon two years early!" All the while she is doing this we are currently in the middle of a crowded airship heading to Beacon, quite literally full of all our peers that we will be with for the next four years. I haven't even landed at Beacon and I am already getting judgmental looks… This will be such a fun year… Yay me.

"Yang please calm down.. I didn't do much, and I still don't have the best aura.." I mumble out towards my sister, in hopes that she would understand my current dilemma.

A hope that I found to be completely based on falsehoods as she goes into her next ramble "What do you mean!? It was incredible! Everyone at Beacon will think that you are the bees knees!"

"I don't want to be the bee's knees… I don't want to be any type of knees. I just want to be a normal girl with a normal amount of aura and doing normal things." I try to reason with her yet again.

Yet again any reasoning I had went out the door when more words escaped her mouth "What's with you aren't you excited!? Plus who cares about aura levels when you take out literal bad guys!"

Before I could even go on with my argument, if you could even call it that, someone turned on the holographic monitor and blasted it at full volume. It went on to explain about the literal criminal that I had let get away, apparently his name was Roman Torchwick, and a faunus rights protest that turned deadly after the White Fang got involved in it. Great now everyone has a face to attach to the man that I ended up fighting, and it is apparently a very well known one at that. Luckily then it turned off and a hologram of Glynda appeared. I am so happy to see her now! At first I thought she was quite mean, but now I finally realized that she is the only sane person in my life. Can't she just adopt me and tell Ozpin that this was a stupid idea?

The hologram started "Hello and welcome to Beacon. My name is Glynda Goodwitch. You are among the privileged few that have received the honor of being selected to attend this prestigious academy. Our world is experiencing an incredible time of peace and as future huntsmen and huntresses it is your duty to uphold it. You have demonstrated the courage needed for such a task and now it is our turn to provide you with the knowledge and the training to protect our world." Man what a speech and by all accounts the Glynda hologram actually looks happy. A stern happy, but I think that I saw her.. It.. Smile even. I wonder what they had to do to make that happen. I got the vibes that even if you get her the happiest ever she would still roll her eyes at you and not let such a smile across her lips. Maybe they had her do the speech and then slightly altered the hologram to make her look happier. Can you do that?

Yet that does not matter right now, what matters now is that you can see Beacon from the window. I zoomed up to and stared at the distant view of Beacon that grew closer by the minute in the distance. The towering tower of Beacon quite gave it its name and stood tall almost like a sign of its great power. The tower itself gave the entire campus a green hue from this distance, a mixture of the vast green spaces that surrounded it and the help of the lights of the surrounding buildings.

"Wow look at the view from up here! You can even see our new home from here." exclaimed Yang. A quite true statement by my older sister, for the next four years we will be living at Beacon. For better or for worse, I just feel sorry for Glynda. There is no way that Yang is not going to destroy something in those four years and I would be surprised if she didn't somehow take down Beacon tower. Just then a scraggly blonde man covered his mouth and ran towards the nearest trash can, all the while he was dry heaving. "Well not everyone must like the view." quipped Yang. Great four more years of Yang quipps and even worse.. Puns. This is going to be four long years.
