AU, Non BWL Harry, Neutral Potters.
Previously on Normalcy is Divine:
Harry's mind came back to reality, and he realized he was actually staring at the old headmaster, eating his soup. He was about to go back to his dinner, when the old man looked towards him, gave a smile and raised his glass and went back to his meal. In that very moment, Harry's respect for Dumbledore increased ten fold. He knew that his headmaster knew exactly what he was thinking and had played his move and now the ball was in Harry's court.
In the immortal words of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle "The Game's Afoot".
Harry woke up as he felt the warmth of the sun rays on his face. He got up from his bed and walked towards the window as he glanced at the beautiful sight of the Mediterranean sea filled with expensive yachts while he stretched the sleep out of him. On the other side he could see his family already indulging in breakfast by the pool of their rooftop suite.
Harry was apprehensive at first when his father told him about a 15 day vacation in France, but now that he was here, he wouldn't change a single thing. They had booked an entire 3 bedroom suite on the top floor, with its own patio and swimming pool overseeing the glorious sea. The only downside he could see was that he had missed the Monaco grand prix. Watching Aryton Senna was another thing on his bucket list. Maybe next year he could convince his father to take him to Hungary.
He soon joined his family for breakfast after finishing his morning routine. His father was busy reading some documents, while his mother was fussing up over his brother's eating habits. "Cygnus, I swear to Merlin, If you eat with your mouth open one more time, you would be cleaning the stable for next year on your own. Can you even imagine what other guests would think if they saw him behaving like this tonight?" Narcissa exclaimed with a deep frown on her face.
"Other guests? Are we invited somewhere tonight?" Asked Harry as he took a chair after ordering an assortment of fruits to one of the many attendants they were provided with the suite.
"Yes apparently, your father decided to get a new hobby and decided to invest in some vineyards. The owners wanted to publicize this with a celebration to commemorate the new tidings in their business" narcissa explained clearly not agreeing with her husband's new found hobbies.
"Can we please skip this, I really don't want to ruin the perfect holiday I am having right now by greeting boring old men."
"Absolutely Not! This event is one of the biggest ones this year, one where celebrities and people of importance from both the magical and mundane one will be attending. I want both of you boys to be on your best behavior. I will absolutely not tolerate any tomfoolery, you are representing something more than just yourself. You will be courteous and charming, do not forget your lessons."
Seeing both the boys defeated James said "You don't have to worry about it, I am sure this will be fun, whole families are invited, there will be people your age. I am sure you can make new friends."
Harry just exchanged a look with his father which clearly conveyed the disbelief in those words and went back to his breakfast. "I wish Septi or Ced were here as well" Harry sighed before taking another bite from his plate.
"Oh, then it's a good thing Amos and his family are going to be present as well." James replied with a small smile.
'Thank the gods' Harry thought with a huge smile.
Fleur Delacour always wanted to be like her mother, she had grown up watching her mother turn heads wherever she went. While she knew she herself was beautiful, people only considered her as a child. Even after entering school, she wasn't even considered as the most beautiful girl in her year.
All changed on the fateful night when she took her first step to womanhood. Like so many other girls she knew what was to be expected. Her mother had told her beforehand about what it means to be a woman, and everything that goes with it. She had expected some abdominal cramps, nausea and all the other minor symptoms. What she hadn't expected was her getting bedridden for 3 days with high fever.
Even the healer at the school was stumped at her condition. Everything became clear on the fourth day when she burned her dorm room down in her sleep. Her puberty had awakened her veela side of her genes.
Nobody had expected this, afterall she was only a quarter veela! Even her allure was supposed to be minimal. After extensive research and her being admitted and treated like a lab rat in St. Pierre hospital in Paris for a week, it was concluded that the whole thing is attributed to bizzare set of events coming all together where she had contracted a flu, where her body's immune system was already working in overdrive, all the while her body being high on hormones due to her first menstrual period, together with her veela side maturing and manifesting itself had made her magic explode inside her.
The human part of her was unable to contain the backlash, and hence the veela in her had taken over in a desperate attempt to save her life. However, the veela couldn't take complete control, since she was mostly human, thus her human magic and her veela heritage had somehow reached an equilibrium where both attenuated each other.
The results were shocking to say the least, her magical core had doubled overnight, the allure was stronger than her mother's, while she wouldn't change into an avian form like her grandmother, she somehow had gained a certain degree of control over fire magics. All in all it was a bizarre set of things gone just right. According to experts, she was supposed to die, but somehow she chose the one in a million path where she would come out not only unscathed but ever more powerful.
She didn't return to her school for the rest of the year, and instead went to her conclave in Greece, where she was taught to contain and control her newfound powers. When she came back for her end of year examinations, she had noticed every male and few females looking at her with their mouths open and their eyes glazed.
While she enjoyed turning heads like her mother, it soon became frustrating when none of them could even talk to her. The remaining female population had unanimously decided that she was the vilest of creatures on the planet. Her grandmother had told her what she would experience from the change, but to actually witnessing it was heartbreaking. She had gone from being one of the most popular to being an absolute pariah.
Everything had changed in her life, her friends, her peers, even reactions from strangers were absolutely disgusting. Even her trusted unicorn tail wand had stopped working for her, her grandmother had graciously given her own hair so she could replace her wand. Although she loved her new wand, as it suited her better, and made her feel closer to her heritage, she couldn't help but feel sad from the stick who refused to even acknowledge her.
Fleur in her young life had already learned a very important and harsh lesson, that the world is fickle at best. Things can change overnight, and it's up to you to decide how to deal with it. Her family had always told her that she was special and was born for greatness, and she would be great someday. She was proud of her heritage, and she would be damned if she let her be bothered by the opinions of the sheep.
While she felt lonely, her grandmother had taught her that one finds their true friends in times of peril. If her friends had abandoned her just because of her heritage, then they weren't even friends to begin with, and so Fleur Delacour had kept her chin up, ignored the lusty gazes, the envious eyes and decided to walk on her path to greatness. The fools around her don't matter after all.
Coming to the present, Fleur walked in the grand ballroom with her family taking in the sights of the elegant decoration and the guests mingling about. As usual there were more than a few stares directed towards them. With both her and her mother together, it wasn't a surprise. She however ignored them, for the ball was held by her cousin's family in celebration of a new business venture with the Potters of all people.
'No wonder so many famous people are invited,' thought Fleur as she walked with her family to greet the hosts. She was engulfed in a warm hug by a girl slightly taller than her. "I missed you so much cousin, and why haven't you replied to any of my letters?" A sweet voice entered her ear.
"Claire! I missed you too! I was in Greece at the conclave and didn't receive the letters. I was going to reply but father said that I was going to meet you here. Moreover it's only been 3 weeks since you last saw me at the school." Fleur replied as she recognised her favorite cousin. Claire Dubois was the only cousin on her father's side that she adored. She was the same age and had absolutely no qualms about her being a veela.
"Heaven's! Just look at you, you look so beautiful Fleur. You have even grown taller than last I saw you. It doesn't matter if I saw you three weeks ago, you must reply whenever I write."
"Yess my lady you lowly servant shall do your bidding" Fleur replied as the two girls dissolved into laughter.
"Come I'll introduce you to my new friends" Fleur found herself being dragged away from her family by the excited girl towards the three boys standing near a pillar conversing almost by themselves. A dreaded feeling erupted inside her, as he saw the two of the boys seem to be around her age. The last thing she wanted was to make a scene at such a big event because of hormonal teenagers.
When they arrived in front of the three boys, Claire said "Cousin, meet Hadrian, Cedric and the little cutie is Cygnus, and guys this is my cousin Fleur Delacour."
Fleur looked at her cousin bewildered at the sudden short introduction, she then looked at her new company and was amazed to see none of the three boys enthralled by her allure. The younger was red in the face due to being called cutie, while the one on the right seemed to be blushing by being in her cousin's company while the boy in the middle seemed more amused by his friend's reaction to her cousin than her allure.
Finally looking at her, the boy introduced "Hello, I am Hadrian Potter-Black, this right here is my friend Cedric Diggory, and this is my brother Cygnus Potter." He finished with a straight face. For the first time, since her change, a boy had not been dazed by her allure, he had not even reacted to it, it was as if her allure didn't even exist. She could freely admit, he was a very good looking boy, he seemed to have an athletic body and was taller than her. Though the Potter heir seemed impassive at best, it looked like he would be anywhere but here.
The rest of the time was spent with the Diggory boy fumbling while talking to her cousin, he looked positively flustered as he desperately tried not to make a fool of himself. He was often saved by the Potter heir, and said boy remained mostly quiet. Soon the time for dancing began, and Claire was immediately asked by a blushing Cedric for a dance for which she readily agreed. The younger Potter had left as well, and she stood awkwardly with the quiet boy.
Fleur loved dancing, it was one thing she was truly passionate about. She started her ballet lessons at the age of five, and since had only mastered the art. Though since her change, it was exceedingly difficult for her to pursue ballet, since the allure always radiated more strongly while dancing, and she could not get a partner who could control himself for any other dances.
She had hoped the boy next to her would ask her, but apparently the subtlety didn't work on him, so after the first dance she finally asked "Do you dance Mr. Potter?" She cursed herself in her mind for asking such a stupid question, and cursed him for making everything so awkward.
"Not if I can help it." Oh, how she wished she could burn him to ashes at that moment, the sheer arrogance was astounding. He didn't even look at her! She decided to walk away before she said or did something she would regret. While walking away, she looked over her shoulder and was enraged to see him not even noticing her absence.
She had a couple dances with her father and her uncle, and even with the Diggory boy, but it seemed he was more happy with her cousin. They had danced 4 dances together. On the other hand the infuriating Potter heir had only danced three, one with his mother, one with Claire, and one with Claire's mother. Doing the bare minimum of what was required of him.
As the dancing ends, and people move for refreshments, she is joined by a bubbly Claire, who looked like she thoroughly enjoyed her night.
"Great Merlin! I've never seen so many pretty girls in my life." The girls hear an excited voice of Cedric behind the pillar they were sitting next to. They share a glance and move a bit to get a better view of the conversation.
"You are dancing with the only beautiful girl in the room." Hadrian replies with a small smirk
"Oh, she is the most beautiful creature I ever beheld" the almost dazed voice makes Claire blush like a tomato, as Fleur smiles suggestively "But her Cousin, Fleur, is very agreeable." Fleur's smile broadens as they see Cedric giving his friend a nudge.
"Perfectly tolerable, I dare say, but not beautiful enough to tempt me." They hear Hadrian say, as Fleur immediately loses her smile.
"You have gone bonkers mate."
"You had better return to your partner and enjoy her smiles, for you are wasting your time with me." Said the Potter heir as he walked away leaving a gaping Cedric behind, both the boys not noticing the girls next to the pillar.
"Count your blessings, Fleur, If he liked you, you'd have to talk to him." Claire said, trying to cheer her cousin up.
"Precisely. As it is, I would not dance with him at all. Moreover he looks so miserable and he is British of all things!" Said Fleur with an artificial smile as she walked towards the table with a fruit punch.
Claire smiles at her cousin but sees nonetheless that she is stung.
For the first time after coming to this world, Harry had felt the brunt of emotions from his former life. Watching Fleur Delacour was one thing that had almost broken the dam. All the older memories came rushing back as he remembered the time he spent with her. Unknown to many, Harry had kept in touch with her after the triwizard tournament. She was one of the first to believe in him, when he told the world about voldemort.
When Sirius died, and Harry was left alone, she had snuck a portkey to her flat in Cardiff. It was in her arms, where he had started to deal with his godfather's death. The memories of the night, when he poured his heart out, told her of his past and all his insecurities, and she cried with him, consoling him, and in that moment they held each other he kissed her, only for her to push him back. He was too young, she had said. Told him to wait till his majority she had said, only to marry Bill the next year.
He wasn't salty about it, well to be honest he had hoped she would wait, but it's not like they were involved. She had become his one of the closest confidants, and he was very thankful for her friendship. After the war, Bill had died, and she was left broken, and so was Harry, but they found themselves again in each other's arms pouring their souls out, this time however she had not pushed him away. It was kind of ironic how his first kiss and first sex both had a lot of tears involved.
They both had explored each other thoroughly, both desperately needing to hold something onto, to forget the pain and latch onto something more blissful. The next day Harry woke up to see a note on the bedside table by Fleur telling him how sorry she was about leaving him, and how maybe in another world they could have been together. That day Harry had lost another friend, another person he loved.
Seeing Fleur today was one of the most difficult things he had to do. He wanted to be angry with her, shout at her for leaving him, just hold on and kiss her, but all he could do was ignore her. It took every ounce of self restraint to not just do that. Throughout the night he told herself she wasn't his Fleur, he kept reminding himself that this is not the same world. This Fleur was different, her magic felt different, her allure felt different.
As the time to leave came closer, Fleur couldn't help but curse her luck. It seems the Potters, Delacours and the hosts were taking the same apparition point and had decided to have a little bit of conversation before leaving.
"Lady Dubois, once again I have to commend you on hosting such a grand celebration. Also your daughter is a credit to you, so beautiful and dutiful. You must be so proud of her." Narcissa said with a small pointed glare at her eldest. Fleur certainly enjoyed the small scowl form on his face. It seems she wasn't the only one disapproving of his behavior tonight.
"I agree mother. She is indeed quite beautiful, already turning heads of wizards." Hadrian said pointing towards Diggory clan who was leaving from the other side, which earned a blush from said girl, while the adults understood his meaning and laughed heartily.
"Yes yes, on her last day of school, she was approached by a third year who wrote her some pretty verses" Lady Dubois supplied with a teasing glint.
"Mother!" Exclaimed a red faced Claire.
"And that put paid to it. I wonder who first discovered the power of poetry in driving away love?" Exclaimed Fleur adding to the teasing.
"I thought that poetry was the food of love." Said Harry in a challenging tone.
"Of a fine, stout love it may. But if it is only a vague inclination, I am convinced that one poor sonnet will kill it stone dead." Fleur replied pointingly. She could see a slight glint in his eyes.
"So what do you recommend my lady, to encourage affection?" Harry asked in his most charming voice with a small smile. While this smile had indeed drawn her in, now it simply annoyed her.
Fleur looks at Harry square on and says "Dancing. Even if one's partner is barely tolerable." With a smile that Harry swears can only be seen on the devil himself. Fleur looks on as she enjoys the horror on his face as Harry realizes she had heard him. With that she takes her leave and pushes her family to the apparition point, all the while leaving the adults confused, and a lovestruck Harry.
'Oh how have I missed you Fleur, looks like while something's changed most remain the same' thought Harry amusedly as he watched the beautiful veela leave.
To be continued...
That's it, i hope you liked reading it, as much as I liked writing it.
