Kumiko hurried behind her friend, his long legs quickly out pacing her own. Uraharas head was down, seemingly captivated by the papers in his hand.
"any reason you're hauling ass?" She questioned him, grabbing hold of his arm to stop him
"hmm?" He questioned coming to a stop, looking at her concerned face
"you're walking too fast," Kumiko explained "my little legs can't keep up " she finished with a chuckle
"sorry" urahara threw and arm around her shoulder, starting to continue their walk at a better pace "im distracted,"
"about?" Kumiko pressed him, poking his side. Kumiko grinned as his body jerked away from her.
" some data I uncovered to do with the hidoi" he explained brow furrowing on his face "I can't figure out what it means, it's driving me insane. Plus I'm a little nervous " he admitted looking towards their destination
"what are you nervous about?"
"shinji. I'm worried you'll have another bad reaction." He told her softly. "And that he will be an ass about it" Seeing his friend on the floor crying and helpless was burned into his mind. He didn't want her to go through that again
"hey, it'll be fine" Kumiko told urahara for a change. Usually having her hat wearing friend encourage her when going to see a new captain "I've got you here, I know I'm safe" she told him, wrapping an arm around his back
"come on," Urahara increased their speed slightly "we don't want to be late"
urahara knocked lightly on the already open door to the 5ths office. Captain Hirako was standing by his open window, looking out into the distance, not looking around as he spoke to his lieutenant
"come in Urahara" he lazily drawled turning to meet his fellow captain. Walking into the office Kumiko noticed Momo sitting on a desk to the side, looking up at her with a smile. Kumiko sent her a small wave.
"sorry we're late, shinji" urahara told him. Shinji just shrugged walking over
"I've long stopped expecting you to be on time Urahara " shinji grinned at him "hello Kumiko, been having any naughty reactions to captains recently?" He asked with a grin. Kumiko blushed at his remark, remembering he was the one who joked about her and shunsui in the captains meeting
"leave her alone shinji, were not here for your jokes" urahara told him, stepping slightly in front of Kumiko, shielding her from his view
"but I have so many prepared " shinji grinned at him. "I never got to finish them at the captains meeting. Kyoraku got in quite the mood ,didnt he?"
"lucky for you I held him back" Urahara told him, making him scoff "can't say I'll do the same again if he hears about you upsetting Kumiko today "
shinji waved the threat away getting bored, it wasn't fun if they didn't react. "Alright let's get this over with". He said looking over to Momo " you can go first" he told her, sitting down on top of his desk
Momo got up and walked around to where Kumiko was standing, giving her an apologetic look for her captain
Urahara moved over to shinji, explaining what's about to happen.
"sorry". Momo said quietly "he never knows when to shut up"
"it's fine, I was expecting it" Kumiko replied softly
"do you want to go shopping tonight?" Momo asked "I need help picking a costume"
"yeah that sounds great" she nodded happily, "I've been wanting to get some things"
"great, we can grab you from the office after work?" Momo said, at kumikos head nod, she added "im a bit nervous. I don't want to give you a bad reaction"
"it'll be fine" Kumiko told her, reaching for her hand and squeezing it gently "unless you've got some crazy, captain level power hidden away, it won't be bad". Both woman chucked softly
"if you're quite done gossiping" Shinji interrupted sounding bored "we're ready"
Urahara sent him an exasperated look behind his back before shaking his head gently. Turning to the women he said kindly " when your ready ladies"
Kumiko smiled at momo, taking a small step back. A look of determination appeared on momos face. She nodded once at Kumiko to let her know she was about to begin
momo hesitantly upped her spiritual pressure, raising it more at seeing kumikos smile widen.
Kumiko almost sighed with relief, momos spiritual pressure not having a reaction on her. Kumiko could feel a small amount of joy, welling up in her chest, the feeling was sweet. Much like the woman standing in front of her
"it's good" Kumiko told her, momos face relaxing at the news before pulling her spiritual pressure back
Kumiko turned to Urahara with a smile "no reaction, just a sweet happy feeling" urahara quickly jotted it down "similar to Kira, I can work around it"
"well that's boring" shinji said around a yawn, causing Kumiko to look at him "I hope you're reaction to me is more entertaining " he grinned at her, standing up from his desk
"shinji" urahara warned him quietly, not yet looking up
"what? Kyoraku can't be the only one to get a funny reaction" he said walking over to Kumiko. Momo sending her a worried look as she went to go stand by urahara
"let's see what I can get you to do" he told her with a smirk, standing a bit too close for kumikos liking
Urahara left his documents on the desk, choosing to stand next to Momo, incase he had to intervene. Knowing full well if shinji was enjoying himself he wouldn't pull back his spiritual pressure on his own
"it's alright, I'm here" he told Kumiko softly as she sent him a concerned look
"you act as if I'm going to hurt her" shinji rolled his eyes at them " let's begin already"
Kumiko faced him again, blank expression on her face
im not going to give him the satisfaction she thought to herself, determined to keep herself together no matter what happens
Shinji smirked at her, seeing what she was doing. His spiritual pressure suddenly left him with no warning, climbing higher quickly
"not so fast shinji!" Urahara scolded him standing up, hand reaching out as if to stop him
the spiritual pressure hit Kumiko suddenly, whole body feeling heavy. Eyes immediately getting to heavy to keep open , Kumiko let out a big yawn before her eyes closed and she fell backwards to the floor. Everything going black, Kumiko heard Urahara mutter "shit" before everything disappeared
Seeing Kumiko fall backwards, Urahara darted forward, skidding across the floor on his knees, catching her before she hit the floor. Shinji started laughing above him.
Urahara gently laid her down, momo running over to kneel next to her friend concerned
"what's wrong? Is she ok?" She asked captain Urahara
looking down to his unconscious friend, shaking her arm gently urahara said "I think she's asleep? Kumiko?" He called to her, her deep breathing his only answer
"hey Kumiko, wake up" he said again shaking her harder, before noticing shinji still had his spiritual pressure raised "will you knock it off " he told the laughing man crossly
shinji walked over lazily, dampening his Reiatsu. Looking down at Kumiko asleep on his floor. He could have some fun with this.
spiritual pressure gone. Urahara tried to wake her again "miko? Wake up". He said pushing her shoulder a bit, relieved sigh leaving his mouth as her eyes fluttered open. Kumiko blinked a few times looking up into the faces of Kiske and Momo leaning over her
"what happened?" Kumiko said with a yawn. Sitting herself up, Momo wrapped and arm around her back, making sure she didn't fall "im ok". She told her sweet friend
"it appears you fell asleep" urahara said "seems you're spiritual pressure bored her to sleep shinji" he added to the hovering man
shinji just grinned down at them. Definitely planning on using it again soon
"not as good as the reaction Kyoraku got, but I'll take it" he said as they helped Kumiko to her feet
"that's enough for today" Kiske told him sternly
"you're no fun" he mumbled walking back over to his window to continue looking out to the distance
"you sure you're ok?" Momo asked Kumiko who smiled in return
"yeah I feel fine, I don't feel anything now" she promised her "I'm still good to go later"
"come on, let's let shinji get back to work,". He told Kumiko, smiling at Momo "thank you for your time shinji"
"yeah yeah" was his only reply
Kumiko turned to wave back at Momo before following urahara from the office
"Are you really ok?" Urahara asked her when they were away from the office
"yeah I feel fine. It wasn't even a bad reaction. I just felt tired suddenly before waking up on the floor" she told him with a smile
"luckily I caught you before you hit your head" he told her
"you caught me? I was wondering why my ass wasn't hurting" she laughed
"like I would just let you fall?" He said with a smile "we will have to keep an eye on shinji, he was enjoying himself a little too much " shaking his head at the other captain "wouldn't surprise me if he does it randomly until he gets bored"
"hopefully you'll be there to catch me"she bumped her shoulder into his
"what were you and Momo saying?" He asked her
"we're going shopping tonight, to look for some costumes for the party, do you want to come?" She asked him
"nah I've already got my costume " he smiled at her "you'll get a kick out of it"
"what you going as?" She asked him laughing
"you'll have to wait and see. Come on. Let's get back to the office " he said, leading her back
Kumiko had moved the paperwork into the lab again, to be able to converse with urahara as he went over the data from the missions again, elbow resting on his desk, hand supporting his head
"how's it going?" Kumiko questioned him after his third sigh
"infuriatingly slow. There's something there. I just can't figure out what it is. It's not matching anything I'm checking it against ". He mumbled at her, looking to where she was sat on the floor
"I should get a desk in here for you, since you keep bringing your work in here" he mentioned to her taking up half the floor space
"you don't have to go through the trouble, I don't mind" Kumiko told him before realising "where does lieutenant Hiyori do her paperwork? I never see her in your office"
Urahara laughed remembering "she dragged it out in protest, she wasn't thrilled I was her new captain. Refused to work in the same room as me"
Kumiko laughed at that, " where did she move to?"
"I actually have no idea" he chuckled thinking about it "she won't tell me. Told me she doesn't want me hanging around eating loudly when she's working"
Urahara opened a desk draw and pulled out a bag of sweets, throwing some into his mouth chewing loudly
"now where would she get an idea like that?" Kumiko teased him. "How you getting on with my watch tracker?"
Urahara nodded, waiting to swallow before answering "good, I've still got a few things to do before it'll be ready, just got to try it out then, should be done in a few days"
"you need my help at all?" Kumiko offered, putting paperwork back into their correct files
"nah I've got it" he said turning away from his desk stretching out his arms " I need an early night, I'm knackered "
"you stay up late again last night?"
"yeah, going over the samples sent over from amagais scouting team" he told her rubbing his eyes
"you need to look after yourself Kiske. You can't go with no sleep all the time " she reminded him
"I know. I'm going to finish work now. Go grab some dinner and eat it in bed ". He told her with a smile standing up
a knock on the door made Urahara leave the lab to get it
Kumiko was just finishing putting the last report into its correct file when a voice got her attention
"yo, you ready?" Renji said walking in the lab behind urahara
"renji? What are you doing here?" Kumiko asked confused. She didn't remember making plans with the man
"Momo told me to grab you on my way to meet them. ". He told her, leaning down to offer her a hand to her feet
"I didn't know you was coming shopping with us". She smiled at him before picking up the files
"me and Hisagi need to get costumes for the Halloween party, rangiku told us to come with you lot. Threatened might be the better word". He grinned at her making her laugh
"I just got to put these away and we can go" she told him
"pass them here, I'll do it before I lock up" urahara offered, holding his hands out
Kumiko smiled at him sweetly, passing him the files before kissing him on the cheek
"thanks. You need anything while I'm shopping? " she offered
Urahara stood there thinking for a comically long time, Kumiko could almost hear the gears turning in his head
"im running low on sweets?" He told her making her laugh, renji couldn't suppress an amused smile. The captain was famous for always munching on sweets
"I'll get you some". Kumiko chuckled
urahara started walking out of the lab, files in hand "let me just grab some money". He said over his shoulder
"don't be daft. You bought lunch yesterday, I'll get them " she said coming out the lab, renji behind her
"if only Hiyori was as nice to be as you are". He told them with a grin " go on get going". He told them, shooing them away with his hand
Kumiko laughed "see you tomorrow Kiske"
"later, captain Urahara" renji said before turning to the door
"remember to take your Reiatsu tracker with you!" He called after her
"yes dad!" She teased him, turning to close the door, catching his unamused look "I already got it". She confirmed before waving and closing the door
renji looked down at her with an amused expression
"let's go" he told her before walking towards the shopping district
"actually renji" Kumiko said keeping step with him "I've got a huge favour I need to ask of you "
"what's that?" He asked her, worried about the devilish smile she sent him
