A/N If the title of the episode had a character's name, they tell it. This is an Edward story, by that thinking.
Hey, it's me, Edward. This time, I shall tell of a time I had trouble, but still managed to get the job done.
Bertie the Bus was giving some visitors a tour of the Island of Sodor.
It was their last afternoon, and I was preparing to take them to meet Bill and Ben.
I found it hard to start the heavy train.
"Did you see him straining?" asked Henry.
"Positively painful," remarked James.
"Just pathetic," grunted Gordon. "He should give up and be preserved before it's too late." It hurt me to hear that.
"Shut up!" burst out Duck. "You're all jealous. Edward's better than any of you."
"You're right, Duck" said Boco. "Edward's old, but he'll surprise us all." It made me feel better from what James and Gordon said to hear Duck and Boco. They were quite mean when all Henry did was talk about me straining, but Gordon can be rather rude and James isn't less so. This time, Gordon was rude because I was dismissive of what happened to him when I went on the main line and he on my branch line just before. I had scolded Bill and Ben, though, for teasing Gordon.
"I've done it! We're off! I've done it! We're off!" I said as I finally puffed out of the station.
Bill and Ben were delighted to see the visitors. They loved being photographed.
Later they took the party to the China Clay Works in a 'brake-van special".
Everyone had a splendid time, and the visitors were most impressed.
Then I took the visitors home.
On the way, the weather changed. Wind and rain buffeted me. My sanding gear failed, and my fireman rode in front, dropping sand on the rails by hand. I realized it must've been failing when I started and had trouble starting my train.
Suddenly, my wheels slipped fiercely, and with a shrieking crack, something broke
My crew inspected the damage. Repairs took some time.
"One of your crankpins broke, Edward," said Driver. "We've taken your side rods off. Now you're like an old-fashioned engine. Can you get these people home? They must start back tonight."
"I'll try, sir," I promised.
I puffed and pulled my hardest, but his wheels kept slipping and he could not start the heavy train. The passengers were anxious.
The driver, fireman, and conductor went along the train making adjustment between the coaches.
"We've loosened the coupling, Edward. Now you can pick your coaches up one by one, just as you do with freight cars."
"That'll be much easier," I said. "Come...on!' I puffed, and moved cautiously forward. The first coach moving helped to start the second, and the second helped the third.
"I've done it! I've done it!" I puffed.
"Steady, boy!" warned Driver. "Well done, boy! You've got them! You've got them!"
And he listened happily to my steady beat as I forged slowly but surely ahead. The passengers cheered me on.
At last, battered, weary, but unbeaten, I steamed in. I was in pain from what had happened, but I got them to the right place, even if I was slow. Henry was waiting for the visitors with the Special Train.
Peep! Peep!
Sir Topham Hatt angrily pointed to the clock, but the excited passengers cheered and thanked me, Driver and my fireman.
I went to the shed. Duck and Boco saw to it that I was left in peace. Gordon and James remained respectfully silent.
I had to go to the Works to be mended and Boco looked after my branch line while I was being mended. Donald and Douglas came to accept Boco from that.
A/N I did a book/TV combo for this. Respect my English, as I'm not British, they are, so I'm doing the best I can. Sometimes, I use my country's word because our dub did.
