"Grim!" Devon called out as she her search for the little monster led her to the Ramshackle gates. "Where'd you go, bud?" She'd called for him countless times by now, but there was still no response. A quick word from Regina that they hadn't seen Grim in the area caused Devon to puff her cheeks up in frustration. She leaned against the gate and tried to think of other places Grim could have run off to. She doubted he'd stray too far from the food, but she hadn't had any luck at the buffet tables and she was sure the guests would've commented if they'd seen him. "Who'd have thought a gluttonous loud mouth like him would be so hard to track down…"
"Child of man. Might I have a moment of your time?"
Devon jumped slightly at the sound of the voice behind her, but her surprise quickly turned to recognition. She smiled as she turned and saw Malleus approaching her. "Hey, Horns! You startled me for a second there. Takin' a break from the party?"
"Not as such," Malleus replied. "I saw you breaking away on your own and figured I'd take the chance to speak with you privately. There's something I've been meaning to ask you."
Devon nodded, waiting for him to continue.
"Did you find your first Halloween at Night Raven College enjoyable?" Malleus asked. His expression remained mostly neutral, but there was a hint of apprehension in his eyes.
Devon couldn't help but smile. "Of course! This was probably one of the most fun Halloweens I've ever had." She gently nudged him with her elbow. "Though that was mostly thanks to you."
Malleus couldn't stop the self-satisfied smirk from spreading over his lips at Devon's praise, his tail moving wrap around her waist and gently push her closer to him. "Are you referring to the Magicam Monsters? That was just basic courtesy. You entrusted your dorm to Diasomnia, so it was only fitting that I do everything within my power to protect it," His expression grew fonder as he continued to look at her, "and those dwelling within it. The week had its ups and downs, to be sure, but I have to agree that it will certainly be one of the most memorable Halloweens those of us here have ever experienced. I too was able to enjoy myself immensely at Ramshackle. I am certain that wouldn't have happened if you hadn't loaned Ramshackle to us. Halloween might be nearly over, but rest assured that I'll still do everything in my power to protect it. And you."
Devon felt her cheeks warm as she rubbed the back of her head sheepishly, not trusting herself to speak. Malleus smirked inwardly at her reaction, looking for a moment like he wanted to say more, but merely shook his head. "I hope you'll enjoy the rest of your night. Happy Halloween." With that, he disappeared in a sea of green lights.
'There he goes…,' Devon thought, a warm smile on her face. "Happy Halloween to you too, Horns."
"Dev!" called Deuce's voice, followed by the sound of running footsteps. "Where are you?"
Devon turned toward her friend's voice right as he caught sight of her, bolting toward her before skidding to a stop beside her.
"Come with me," Deuce said, motioning back toward the party. "We found Grim."
"Vil and Jade found Grim for us," Deuce informed Devon as the pair arrived back at Main Street. Deuce led Devon over to the aforementioned upperclassmen, Jade with an unsettling smile on his face while an unamused Vil held a complaining Grim by the scruff of his neck.
"I looked away from my food for a matter of seconds and the next thing I knew, Grim was eating the carpaccio right off my plate," Jade supplied, sounding remarkably cheerful despite the irritated look in his eyes.
"Honestly. We've an impossibly large assortment of culinary masterpieces here. Why would you go out of your way to take food off of someone else's plate?" Vil asked Grim disdainfully.
"Because food tastes way better when it belongs to someone else!" Grim replied with a smirk.
Vil's eyes narrowed into a glare. "This is beyond shameless. Your manners are nothing short of appalling." He turned and thrust Grim into Devon's arms. "Devon, he's your responsibility."
Jade chuckled ominously. "What a naughty little monster you are. Since you've eaten my carpaccio, maybe I ought to eat you in return."
"Oh please. Your bluffs don't scare me!" Grim boasted. "It's your own fault for not keepin' an eye on your food!" He let out a loud, "Myahaha! That Trick-Or-Treat spell netted me enough candy to last for a month too! I don't want Halloween to ever be over!"
Devon and Deuce rolled their eyes before catching sight of Cater approaching with the Ramshackle ghosts.
"Hey, hey!" Cater called out with a wave. "We've been lookin' for you guys!"
"Hello Cater," Jade greeted. "I see you've brought the ghosts with you. What can we do for you all?"
Cater winked and gave the group a quick salute. "Our ghostie friends have a little request." He sent the short ghost an encouraging smile. "Go ahead."
"W-Well…y'see…," the short ghost began nervously.
"We've never had a Halloween as fun as this one in all the time we've been ghosts," the skinny ghost continued.
"And we want to capture this moment so we can look back and remember it for a long, long time to come," the short ghost added. "So we talked to Cater about it…"
"We'll continue to show up in pictures until Halloween is over. So we were thinkin' it might be nice to take one last group photo with you all and post it online. If everyone's alright with that, of course," the chubby ghost finished.
Everyone was silent as the ghosts finished making their request. Devon and Grim exchanged a quick look as Jade and Vil continued to stare at the ghosts in what appeared to be disbelief.
"R-Right… Guess that's askin' a bit much, huh?" the short ghost said, his shoulders slumping.
"Yeah, that makes sense," the chubby ghost added, though the disappointment was clear in his tone. "After all the chaos Magicam caused everyone this week, it's no surprise that everyone's patience is thin right now."
"Ghosts…," Jade began, his expression serious for a moment before breaking into a smile. "That's a wonderful idea."
"I'll give you a perfect Halloween pose," Vil agreed. "Consider it a gift for the holiday."
"R-Really? You'd do that for us?" the short ghost asked.
"We only get to celebrate like this once a year, after all," Devon reminded them.
"Yeah! And if any more Magicam Monsters show up, I'll kick 'em all out myself!" Grim promised.
Devon laughed. "There's Ramshackle's dependable lil' meow-meow!"
"See? What'd I tell ya?" Cater said to the ghosts. "Nothing to worry about."
"Everyone… Thank you all so much!" the ghosts exclaimed in unison.
"Let's get that photo taken, shall we?" Vil said as he began ushering everyone into place. "The Halloween party has only just begun, after all. Those of us on the committee still need to make the rounds."
The chubby ghost nodded. "Of course. Everyone huddle in nice and close now!"
"Do you think the ghosts will block us in the shot?" Jade asked.
"Nah, they're transparent!" Cater chirped.
"I think you're missing the point, Cater," Vil commented.
Grim tapped Devon's cheek with his tail. "Hey, Dev! Let's find a spot where we can really show off our costumes! And make sure to lift me up so I'm front and center!"
"Alright! Is everyone ready?" the skinny ghost asked once he'd readied his smartphone, making sure the angle was just right and setting the timer on the camera before casting a quick spell to float it in place as he rushed to take his spot. "Three…Two…One…"
"Happy Halloween!" everyone shouted as the flash went off.
Dominic flopped down in his computer chair, patting his chest to 'summon' Gizmo. The cat obliged immediately, hopping up onto his owner and proceeding to make biscuits on his shoulder as he purred happily. Dominic couldn't keep the small smile off his face. "At least I can count on you not to let me down, huh."
Gizmo 'mmrph'd in response and gently butted his head against Dominic's chin.
Dominic chuckled. "Yeah. That's what I thought." He sighed. "This has probably been the most simultaneously rewarding and excruciating night of my life."
"Mood," replied a nearby voice. "I was just having similar thoughts about my own night."
Dominic turned eagerly toward the sound of the voice, smiling when he saw Idia on his phone screen. "Idia! I was hoping I'd hear from you tonight!"
Idia's cheeks and hair began to glow a light pink. "Y-You were? Was your night really that bad? I know you and DJ were supposed to have that big party…"
"It's kind of a long story… Party's over and done with now and I'm currently taking a breather until DJ figures out what I'm doing and yells at me to help him and Mateo clean up," Dominic told him, absentmindedly petting Gizmo. "How'd NRC's party go? I take you guys ran out all the Magicam Monsters?"
"Thankfully yes, but there were still too many normies for my taste," Idia replied. He gave Dominic a concerned look. "Are you feeling alright? You look like a kicked puppy."
Dominic huffed out a laugh. "Yeah, I guess that's pretty accurate." He sighed and studied Idia for a moment, trying to decide whether or not to confide in him, before ultimately deciding that there was no real harm in him knowing. "So…there's this guy that I've had a thing for since we were in elementary school…"
Idia had to fight to keep a neutral expression on his face. 'Of course. Of course he has feelings for someone else. I don't know why I'm surprised; why would I let myself hope Dom would want anything to do with me? It's not like we could be together anyway, not with me in Twisted Wonderland and him…wherever he is. This is what I get for hoping-'
"Basically, I really had my eyes opened to the fact that nothing was ever gonna happen between us and he's actually kind of a douchebag if we're being honest," Dominic continued. "I mean, I already kinda knew that but its' never really been out there in my face like it was tonight…"
There was an internal record scratch noise in Idia's mind as Dominic finished his thought and now Idia was fighting to keep his neutral expression in place for a different reason. He knew the odds of them getting together were still dismally low, but at least he didn't have to contend with Dom's feelings for another guy. "You don't say… Sounds like there's a story there."
"Understatement of the century," Dominic snarked. "I don't wanna bore you, though. I doubt it's any fun listening to me talk about myself and my cringey romance woes."
"Joke's on you, Dom; I could listen you talk about paint drying and not get bored," Idia blurted out. His eyes widened as realized what he'd said and he immediately pulled his hood over his now blushing face and light pink hair with a squeak. He cleared his throat awkwardly and continued, but refused to lift his hood. "So, u-um, y'know…if you want to talk about what happened, I'd be glad to listen."
Dominic's eyes widened as well as he felt his cheeks get warm. "Oh… Um, heh…" He paused as he tried to think of the best place to start. "I've told you already that I'd liked this guy-his name is Liam, by the way-for a while, right? Well, Liam's one of those people who're very much aware of how good-looking they are and aren't above using those looks to get whatever it is they want. Part of the reason I never actually came out and told Liam how I felt was because he had a gaggle of groupies, many of them very vocal about how attractive they thought he was, and my social anxiety wouldn't even let me consider the idea that I stacked up to any of them. Even so, I guess I wasn't as subtle about my feelings as I thought because Liam figured out how I felt about him and started taking advantage of it."
Idia quirked a brow, slowly peeking out of his hood. "How do you mean?"
Dominic paused, trying to find the words. "Like… Normally he'd barely even register that I existed, but the second he thought I'd be able to get him something he wanted, I was suddenly his favorite person ever. Like, this one time a couple years ago, Liam was auditioning for this part in our school play. It wasn't the lead role or anything but it was still a pretty major supporting role. The thing is, those big roles almost always go to the upperclassmen that have the most experience. Sometimes they'll make an exception if someone shows a ridiculous amount of talent, but it's basically unheard of for a freshman to land one of those roles and certainly not during their first term. Liam knew all this and auditioned anyway and was up against a junior who, if I'm being honest, did a far better job. I guess Liam must've realized he wasn't a shoo-in for this part because he came after me right after the auditions."
"What did he think you'd be able to do?" Idia asked.
Dominic shrugged. "The teacher that oversees the school productions also does work with a community theatre group that Harper and I have been part of since before we started high school, so there was a pre-existing relationship there. Liam must've figured I had an in with him or something because he turned on the charm like you wouldn't believe, tryin' to get me to put in a good word for him. Thinking back, I can't believe those lame-ass lines flustered me the way they did." He gave Idia a flat look before continuing, "He told me my eyes looked like space crystals, Idia. Space. Crystals."
Idia could only stare in disbelief. "I… You… What does that even mean?!"
"I don't know," Dominic replied, shaking his head before burying it in Gizmo's fur, "but it was enough to get my stupid heart racing. I went and talked to the teacher for him, just like he wanted, and he ended up getting the part. It wasn't until later that I found out that he'd gone around to the rest of his fanclub and persuaded them to say something too. Of course once he got what he wanted, I was back to being more or less invisible."
"Wow. I've never met this guy but he sounds like a total tool," Idia grumbled, shaking his head with a disdainful expression.
"Well if he's the tool, then I'm the fool because I fell for that crap I don't know how many times over the years, hoping maybe it would be different each time and he'd finally realize how good we could be together," Dominic said. "DJ, Devon, Harper, everyone I care about, they all warned me that Liam wasn't who he appeared to be but I didn't have ears to listen until the ass broke my heart for the nth time. I tried to keep my distance, but he kept finding me to try and angle for an invitation to our party tonight. I did end up caving and inviting him, but I was a little proud of myself since it was mostly just to get him off my back…at least until I caught myself hoping, once again, that maybe he'd want to be with me. And then, earlier tonight, Harper and I caught him sucking face with some freshman girl with loaded parents. I told him I didn't want anything more to do with him and I'd known he was scum for a while, but it still really hurt." He pressed his face into Gizmo's fur again to hide the tears forming at the corners of his eyes, Gizmo licking at his hair in response. "Am I ever going to stop being an idiot when it comes to this guy, Idia?"
Idia remained silent for a moment, not quite trusting himself to speak. He was feeling a lot of emotions simultaneously: sympathy for Dominic, anger toward Liam for treating him so badly, anxiety about saying the wrong thing and making Dominic feel worse, along with that giddiness he always felt whenever a cat was in his vicinity. Speaking of, Gizmo was now staring at him with look that said something along the lines of, "Say something, you dingus!" so Idia blew out a breath and prepared to do his best.
"Well…I'm not really all that great at pep talks, but here we go…," he began. "Personally, I don't think you're an idiot for feeling the way you do. For better or worse, you've been emotionally invested in Liam for a long time. It's great that you've realized he's not good for you, but those feelings don't just go away overnight. It's even harder to let go when he keeps putting himself in your space and doing all those things that he knows will charm you."
"I don't think I have to worry about that anymore," Dominic replied, finally cracking a smile. "Not after Harper slapped him earlier tonight. Something tells me Liam'll be keeping his distance for a while."
Idia nodded, his respect for Harper skyrocketing.
The smile began to fall from Dominic's face. "I know I'm making the right decision by moving on, but I didn't think it'd make me feel so bad…"
"Maybe it would help to try to reframe it," Idia suggested. Dominic looked at him curiously, so he elaborated, "You know that feeling you get when a manga or video game series ends, especially if it's something you've been following for a long time? How it feels like there's a void in your life that you don't know how to fill at first?"
Dominic nodded. "All too well, actually."
"Well, just try to think of your situation like a series that's ended," Idia continued. "It sucks right now and you feel a little adrift without pouring your energy into it, but if you give yourself some time, you'll find new-and hopefully less toxic, in your case-interests to focus your energy on." He rubbed the back of his head. "I know that's oversimplifying what you're going through but-"
"No, no. I think I understand what you're trying to say," Dominic interjected contemplatively. "I've never looked at it that way before, but y'know what? I think you've got the right of it. I need focus my attention on things and people that are gonna make me happy instead of dwelling on someone who's been nothing but bad for my mental health." He smirked at Idia playfully. "For someone who claims he isn't very good at pep talks, you certainly made me feel better."
'Well yeah, I'm actually willing to make an effort for you,' Idia thought before offering Dominic a shy smile in return. "I-I'm glad. You deserve all the happiness."
Now it was Dominic's turn to look shy as he felt his cheeks grow warm again. "Y-Yeah? Well…y-you know what would really make me happy?"
Idia shook his head. "What's that?"
"If we could keep talking like this," Dominic answered earnestly. "I know you said the connection between our worlds might grow weaker after Halloween, but I've had so much fun getting to know you. I… I'd really like to keep learning more about you." His eyes widened. "I-I-I mean, if th-that's what you want too! I don't want to pressure you to talk to me or anything if you don't want to."
"Th-That's… I'd like that," Idia replied. "I've really enjoyed getting to know you too and I don't typically say that about people. If the connection between worlds does end up getting weaker, I'll a way to improve my tech so we can keep talking to each other." His cheeks and hair flushed a darker pink. "If I'm being honest, knowing I'd get to talk to you helped me push through all the Halloween Week stuff and the," He shuddered, "socialization."
Dominic laughed as an unfamiliar emotion began to take root in his chest, only for the conversation to be interrupted by someone pounding on his bedroom door.
"Dom, get out here and help us clean this place up!" DJ called through the door. "We promised we'd have it done before Mama and Papa get home and it's getting late."
"Coming! Just give me a sec," Dominic called back before turning back to Idia. "It would seem I'm being summoned. I've gotta go now but we'll talk later…won't we?"
"You know we will," Idia assured him. "We might not be able to talk every day, but I will reach you again. Real quick before you go though, I have something I want to show you." He quickly pulled something up on his phone before holding it up to the screen for Dominic to see. It was a picture he'd managed to snap of Devon, Ortho, and Grim one the Halloween float at the parade earlier that evening (technically Ortho was hovering next to Devon and not actually standing on the float, but semantics). All three of them were smiling as they tossed candy to the guests and Devon looked like she was having the time of her life. "Okay so, for context, we put a parade together to celebrate the end of Halloween Week and to kick off our Halloween party, complete with a float. I know you've been worried about how your sister's doing so I hope this helps put your mind at ease a little bit."
Dominic studied the photo with a fond smile. "It does. Thank you for showing me this, Idia. It's not gonna make me stop worrying about her, but at least I know she's happy there." He glanced toward his door. "Now I'd better actually get back to cleanup duty before DJ busts my door down." He smiled. "Goodnight, Idia. Talk to you soon."
Idia smiled back shyly. "Count on it. Goodnight, Dom."
Devon stirred to the sound of something tapping at her bedroom window. She refused to open her eyes, assuming it was a branch from the tree in the yard and hoping it would stop on its own. At least, that was the plan until Regina informed her that there was, in fact, a person outside her window. The very polite horned gentleman she'd been spending so much time with lately, as fate would have it. This news caused Devon to nearly fall out of bed, somehow without waking Grim, and throw on a hoodie before pulling back the curtain. Sure enough, Malleus was floating right outside.
"Do you have a moment, child of man?" he asked, as if this was something he did all the time.
Devon could only stare incredulously for a moment as she opened the window. "I… Yeah, I guess. Is everything alright?"
Malleus' green eyes widened as if it was just dawning him that showing up outside Devon's window in the middle of the night was most likely not something she was used to; all the other times they'd met up had been in the Ramshackle garden, after all. "My apologies for disturbing you so late, but a thought occurred to me once I got back to Diasomnia and I couldn't shake it."
Devon tilted her head, intrigued. "Go on."
"Tonight's the last night that the campus will be decorated for Halloween," Malleus said. "All the decorations will be coming down tomorrow."
"Mmhmm," Devon replied with a nod. Crowley had informed everyone as soon as the party wrapped up that the campus cleanup would begin bright and early the next morning. Ace had been trying to convince her to drag Grim over to help them out at Heartslabyul once they finished cleaning up at Ramshackle.
"I was hoping you might join me for one last look before it all disappears," Malleus continued.
"Are you wanting to take a walk around campus?" Devon asked as she slid on a pair of shoes.
"No. I want to show you a view you've never seen before," Malleus told her. He held out his hand to her, smiling when she took it without hesitation. There was a flash of light and suddenly Devon's body was engulfed in a green aura as she slowly began to levitate off the ground.
Devon gasped when she glanced down at her feet and noticed she was hovering just above the floor, quickly putting two and two together. "You wanna take me flying?! Oh my gosh, you should've led with that!"
Malleus chuckled. "Judging from your reaction, I assume you'll be accepting my invitation?"
"Of course!" Devon replied excitedly. She felt Regina give a concerned pulse and looked toward the ceiling to address the Wisp. "I'll be fine, Regina, I promise. We won't be out for too long and you'll probably be able to see us from here anyway."
"I give you my word that I'll not allow any harm to come to her, Regina," Malleus added as Devon floated out the window to hover next to him.
Regina pulsed again, this time as if sighing, but ultimately relented. Devon smiled before turning to Malleus. "They said I can go with you, but they will being coming for you if anything happens to me."
Malleus chuckled again before tightening his grip on Devon's hand just slightly. "I'd expect nothing less."
"This is amazing!" Devon exclaimed. She and Malleus had flown together over the entire main campus, her hand in his as he guided her. Night Raven College was an impressive school, no one was arguing that, but seeing it from the air with the floating jack-o-lanterns and candles still lit and the Halloween decorations still up was a whole new level of awe-inspiring.
"I'm happy to see you enjoying yourself," Malleus replied. "However, I must confess that there is another reason I asked you to come out here with me." He guided her over to a nearby tree and perched himself on one of the branches. Devon followed suit, though she was still hovering just a little bit off the branch thanks to his spell, and waited patiently for him to continue. He couldn't bring himself to look directly at her, not wanting her to see how apprehensive he was at bringing this up. "I… I am aware that I haven't been very forthcoming with regards to my true identity. It was brought to my attention earlier this evening that you might be upset with me for choosing not to disclose that to you. I don't see much of a point in speculating about it when I can just ask you outright, so I decided to come to you directly."
Devon was silent for a moment, an unreadable expression on her face. "I see… Well, I can't say that I'm not curious about who you really are or why you're so hesitant to tell me, but I'm not upset that you've decided to keep it a secret."
Malleus finally turned to face her, unable to keep the surprise off his face. "Really?"
Devon nodded. "Of course. You know me well enough by now, Horns; if I was angry with you, I'd have no problem telling you myself. You have a right to your privacy just like anyone else. If we're being honest, I'd be more upset if gave me a fake name and made up some whole new persona, but that doesn't really seem like your style." She gently placed her hand over his. "If and when you decide you're ready to tell me, I'll be right here. Until then, I'm more than happy to keep callin' you Horns. No pressure. Now," Her expression became mildly irritated, "I wanna know who told you I'd be mad at you for not telling me because I'd like to get 'em a piece of my mind. I don't much appreciate someone assuming they know what I'm thinking or feeling, especially regarding something that isn't any of their business. Our friendship is entirely between me and you; an outside party has no business commenting on it."
Malleus felt as though he shouldn't be surprised when Devon caught him off-guard anymore, yet it kept happening. He knew she didn't seem like the sort of person who would get upset about him not disclosing who he really was, but even the slightest chance that Leona might have been right caused an unsettled feeling in his stomach which was now quickly being replaced by a warmer, more fluttery feeling as Devon defended their friendship. He heaved a relieved sigh before threading his fingers through hers. "Thank you. That… That means a lot to me."
"Anytime," Devon replied, trying to hide a yawn behind her hand.
"Are you tired?" Malleus asked.
"A little…," Devon muttered as another yawn threatened to escape her.
"Then I suppose I'd best be getting you back to your dorm. We did promise Regina that I wouldn't keep you for too long," Malleus reminded her before gently scooping her up into his arms and flying back to Ramshackle, trying to ignore the way his heart sped up as she snuggled into his chest.
Regina opened Devon's bedroom window once Malleus got closer, Zephyr zapping her back into her regular pajamas (something she had long since gotten used to and thus no longer reacted to) as Malleus placed her back in her bed and pulled the blankets over her. He stroked her hair gently and was about to leave for Diasomnia when he felt something grab onto his hand. He looked down to see that Devon had grabbed his hand.
"Will you stay with me a little longer?" she asked softly, blinking up at him sleepily and, sweet merciful Seven, she was probably the most adorable thing he'd ever seen in that moment.
Her sweet, sleepy smile did Malleus in; he knew he couldn't refuse her even if he wanted to. "Of course," he replied, carefully sitting down on the bed next to her. He could feel his face getting warm when Devon lifted her head up to rest it on his thigh and he was thankful that it was too dark for her to notice.
Devon sighed happily as Malleus started petting her hair again. "Thank you, Horns. For everything."
"It was nothing, really," Malleus replied. "The campus is always lovely at night, but especially so at this time of year. It would have been a shame for you to miss it."
"I don't just mean tonight," Devon clarified. "I mean everything you've done for Ramshackle this week. I meant what I said about this being one of the most fun and memorable Halloweens I've ever had. That wouldn't have been possible without you, even if I had somehow still ended up at NRC." She closed her eyes, giving up on trying to hold them open. "You're really special to me, Horns. I hope you know that."
Malleus was stunned into silence once again as the flush on his cheeks grew darker. Thankfully, Devon had finally fallen asleep which meant that he had all the time he needed to find the words to respond. As tempted as he was to stay with her the entire night, he knew it was only a matter of time before his guards realized he wasn't in his room. He hadn't told them about this little excursion-not that he usually did-and he didn't think Devon would appreciate Sebek barging into Ramshackle to find him, even if the two of them were friends now.
After carefully easing Devon's head off of his thigh and back onto her pillow, Malleus reluctantly stood up from the bed and leaned down to press a gentle kiss to Devon's forehead. "You're very special to me as well, Devon. Rest well, my treasure. I'll be seeing you again soon."
Then he disappeared in another sea of twinkling green lights.
Ending Notes: I feel like Idia and Dominic are both the type to ask each other "So, like, are you sure you like like me?" no matter how long they've been together. They both completely understand where the other is coming from, though, so they'll give each other all the validation they need. On Devon's end, I think Leona would probably be the LI most likely to do something like this, but his pride won't let him ask for validation directly. He'll fish for it by making some sort of comment about how lucky Devon is to have landed a catch like him which, since we're dealing with Devon here, can go one of two ways: Devon will either make some sort of cheeky remark in response ("What are you talking about? Your partner's waaay hotter than mine!") or she gives him what he wants and still manages to blindside him ("Don't I know it. You put the stars in my sky, mi rey."). If it's the latter, Devon will have most likely be pulled down to snuggle while Leona's tail twitches contentedly despite his facial expression not changing.
I'm kind of sad the Halloween arc is over now, but I'm really eager to get started on Octavinelle! I really need Devon to hurry up and become friends with TWST's version of Ed, Edd, n Eddy so the shenanigans can be cranked up to 11.
My plan is to cover Octavinelle, then the Ghost Marriage/Phantom Bride event, then Scarabia. That should keep me busy for a while and give me more time to figure out where and when some of the other events will be worked into the story. A lot of big developments will be happening in these upcoming arcs (mostly Scarabia) so I hope you'll look forward to them!
Thank you all so much for reading! As always, feedback and constructive criticism are welcome. Geekinthepink, out!
