Summer was fading into autumn, the early morning air crisp and fresh as the leaves on the trees started to turn, changing from green to various shades or yellow, red, gold, and russet.
Ianto drew a deep breath and let it out in a sigh, watching it hang on the air like mist, partly obscuring his vision for a moment. He preferred spring, but autumn had its own charm, and mornings like this were certainly appealing, even if the same couldn't be said for being dragged out of bed before dawn.
Jack came up alongside him, hands deep in the pockets of his coat. "Looks like it'll be a beautiful day, doesn't it? Sunny and warm."
"Could be," Ianto agreed. "It's certainly looking a lot more promising than it did earlier."
"Mm, aliens bent on taking over the world do tend to put a damper on things. Good job we were around to put a stop to their plans."
"It's good to be useful, even if the local citizens don't seem to appreciate our efforts."
"It wasn't our fault one of that farmer's cows got flattened. Silly place to leave a cow."
"I'll be sure to mention that to him."
