Installing a cat door had seemed a good idea at the time. After all, Torchwood didn't keep regular hours; some nights Ianto didn't get home at all. It didn't seem fair to leave Cat cooped up indoors, especially since the grey tabby hadn't started out as a housecat.

Ianto made sure there was always food available for his housemate; a nifty device dispensed dried food into Cat's dish at regular intervals. There was also a water dispenser, although Cat preferred to drink from the pond in the back garden, or failing that, the watering can. Cats were weird.

Still, a cat door meant Cat could come and go as he pleased, napping indoors on cold or wet days, and lazing around the garden when the weather was good.

Arriving home after midnight, following a manic forty-eight hours dealing with yet another invasion attempt, Ianto let himself in and made his way to the kitchen. Cat was squeezed into the fruit bowl on the counter, which was fine, but…

There were two strange cats sitting in the kitchen sink, and a hedgehog eating the cat food. Shaking his head, Ianto went to bed. He'd deal with the intruders in the morning.
