The Galra had been gone for only thirty minutes, and in that time Lance had managed to think about a hundred different ways His friends could be killed right in front of his eyes by the Galra's hands. Keith and Paige were both cuffed and leaning against the wall both still unconscious. Neither of them had moved since they had first hit the ground. He was half expecting Keith to fight through the pain in his wounds and take the Galra down. but there was too much blood gathered around Keith for that to be possible.
Lance glanced down to his own wrists that were chained to the floor in front of him before the Galra left he had shortened Lance's chain, so as not to make it possible for him to rescue his friends. Lance had tried to break the chain, a futile attempt he will admit. It was the only idea he had, and it had failed miserably. Now he has no ideas, two unconscious friends in front of him, and an unknown amount of time for when the Galra would return and ultimately kill all three of them. He couldn't be mad at Keith. He tried to get Pidge out of the ship. Pidge was a stubborn one, and he knew that once she had found him that she wasn't gonna leave without him. If he could go back before this attack He would've gotten Pidge off of the blue lion before he went to join the battle. At least he would've known that she was safe in the castle of lions. But he couldn't go back, that wasn't how life worked. They were in this situation now and it wasn't looking good.
Movement in front of him drew his attention. Pidge was starting to stir, and Hope was stirring within him. They could do this; they could figure out a way to escape and get back to others.
"Katie," Lance said, "are you all right?" He leaned forward onto his knees, his hands pressing into the metal flooring.
Pidge groaned, her cuffed hands pressing to her head. The headache she was experiencing was all she could think about, and she barely registered Lance saying her name. She hadn't had any time to react before the Galra had incapacitated her, and now instead of one paladin captured there were three.
"I'm still alive." Pidge replied. She raised her head a few seconds later. Several yards in front of her she saw Lance still chained to the floor. He was kneeling on the ground, his hands resting in his lap. Sweat had soaked his head and was currently dripping down his face. A small smile appeared on his lips when she made eye contact with him.
Out of the corner of her eye she noticed red armor. Then she remembered that Keith had been shot. She scrambled to her knees and made her way over to where Keith laid unconscious. Her hands being cuffed made the work difficult but she managed to work the chest plate off of Keith. With shaking hands she pressed two fingers to Keith's neck, searching for a pulse. Psyching herself out if she had felt one or not she pressed her ear to his chest. She nearly collapsed in relief when she heard his heart still beating.
It was weak but it was there. She lifted her head to look at Lance to tell him her findings only to fall onto her backside from shock.
Behind Lance was the Galra that had initially taken them down. He stood with his blaster pressed to the back of Lance's head. Lance was still kneeling on the ground, his hands limp in his lap.
"Your friend still alive?" the Galra asked.
"Yes." Pidge bit out. Her hands tightened into fists.
"What a shame." The Galra said. Then he removed the blaster from Lance's head and took a few steps to the side.
Lance visibly relaxed, well as much as he could in their current situation. Pidge released a breath and pushed herself to her feet taking a few steps away from Keith.
"Who's gonna be the smart one and give information willingly?" The galra asked. He glanced between Lance and Pidge. A knowing smile playing on his lips.
There was no reply.
"You know how much I'd hate to have to do this the hard way." The Galra said with a smile that indicated the opposite.
Pidge mumbled something.
"What was that?"
"BULLSHIT."
In one motion the Galra had Pidge pressed against the wall, a hand around her throat, and the blaster pressed to her head. In the same moment Lance jumped to his feet, a panicked expression on his face.
"Let her go!" Lance yelled.
His yelling fell on deaf ears. Pidge and the Galra were engaged in a staring contest. The Galra's finger was hovering over the trigger, seconds from pulling it. Pidge held the Galra's gaze, her hands hanging in front of her. She wasn't even trying to fight him.
Lance pulled on his chain keeping him in place. "Let her go!" The hand on Pidge's neck was the only thing on his mind as he panicked. He had no doubt in his mind that the grip was tight enough to close off Pidge's airway, which means she might not have long before she's rendered unconscious.
"You're a pathetic specimen of a human, the fact that you've been left alive this long is truly pathetic. And it shows how weak the human race is." The galra snarled.
In turn Pidge spit in his face. Her eyes sparked with amusement as the Galra yelled, annoyed. The grip on her neck tightened but she didn't care. She felt the blaster press harder against her head.
"I'm gonna kill you." The Galra said, placing his finger on the trigger."
Pidge only smiled, "Bullshit."
At the same moment an explosion sounded in the room. Within the next second two blasts sounded, one breaking the chain that was holding Lance the second hitting the Galra square in the back of the head.
Emerging from the smoke was Shiro and Hunk. Hunk immediately went to Keith's side picking him up in a fireman's carry, and rushing back out. Shiro came to Lance and broke the chains from his wrists. Lance wasted no time in hurrying over to Pidge.
He made it to her just as the Galra fell back letting Pidge go. Lance caught Pidge just before she hit the ground completely. She was stumbling, the rush of oxygenation making her seem drunk. There was a bright red mark on her neck encasing all of it.
Pidge pulled against Lance, and he paused to look at her concern flashing across his face. She was smiling at him, her eyes bright with tears. With the little strength she had she wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling him in for a hug. Lance wrapped his arms around her helping hold her up.
Just before she passed out, Pidge mumbled in Lance's ear. "I need to tell you something."
Lance nodded a cascade of emotions flooding within him. HIs body froze as he waited to hear what Pidge was going to say. Her voice was weak and he had to strain to hear her, but what he heard next was as if he was hearing it as plain as day.
"I remember."
