Chapter 13
Spock was trying his hardest to defeat Stonn, but Stonn had the advantage of hormones, and he was full Vulcan. Spock did not stand a chance because his yamareen hormones had not surged.
Sarek sat forward and watched pensively. He could not intervene, yet he feared for Spock's life. The crowd was silent as Stonn punched Spock repeatedly. Spock seemed to have lost the desire to defend himself.
M'Benga had placed Volaris in a suspension state using morphine. He could repair the Vulcan, but his life would be meaningless in Sarek's stables. Having been defeated by a human, Volaris would be a pariah among V'Tosh. However, M'Benga believed that the Vulcan could serve another purpose. He took several blood samples and put them in his medical bag.
M'Benga turned his attention back to Kamu. He had easily healed the cuts on his wrists. He had to find a way to get Kamu back into the theater with the hormones M'Benga had planned to give Spock.
"Why didn't you let me die?" Kamu said, sitting up and singing his leg over the edge of the gurney.
"I need you. Nyota needs you," M'Benga said.
"Spock won't hurt her," Kamu said.
"Spock cannot save himself," M'Benga said. "Sarek sent in a Vulcan challenger."
"If Spock is defeated…," Kamu said nothing more. He stood up.
"I must return," Kamu said.
M'Benga scoffed," You can help, but we need a plan."
He smacked his hand with the hypospray. "I need to inject this hormone into organic matter."
He looked around.
"There is plenty of chocolate on the tray," Kamu said with a grin.
M'Benga shook his head. "That would suppress his desires. It would be counterproductive."
Joseph walked over to the counter. There was a stainless pan with a small piece of flesh in it. He picked it up and looked at it. Then he nodded his head.
"Spock has taught you Suus Manha?" M'Benga asked.
"Yes," Kamu replied. "Why?"
M'Benga put the pan in the chiller and switched it to high. Then he walked over and placed Kamu's hand on over his heart. "Human and Nausicans." He whispered.
Then he placed Kamu's hand over his liver.
"One blow here will stun a Vulcan for around thirty minutes." He whispered in the young man's ear. "The harder the blow, the more time you will have."
Kamu nodded.
M'Benga removed the tissue from the chiller. He peeled it up and shaped it into a ball. Then he injected it with a hypospray.
"Hormones," he whispered.
M'Benga switched to another cartridge. It was not standard protocol to mix substances, but he only had one hypospray gun. He added adrenaline in case the Vulcan Yamareen failed. It would give Spock a fighting chance.
M'Benga put the substance back into the chiller and pressed the button again for thirty seconds. Then he wrapped it in tissue and handed it to Kamu.
"Tuck this into your cheek just before you enter the theater. It will begin to thaw quickly, so you must give it to Spock quickly."
M'Benga rang for the guards.
"It may affect you a little. Try to stay calm." M'Benga said.
"What is it?" Kamu asked.
"It is a piece of flesh from Nyota," M'Benga said. M'Benga did not say that it was the hook of her ko-lok he had removed prior to the piercing.
He slapped Kamu on the back and watched him head down the corridor to the theater. M'Benga put his robe back down and followed the other guards to the theater.
Joseph was shocked at what he saw. Stonn was straddling Spock choking him to death. Kamu entered the theater and the crowd booed. He ran over to Stonn and kicked him in the side where the human liver was located. Stonn stood up and backed away. Then he collapsed. The crowd cheered, and Sarek sat down. Kamu was becoming a crowd favorite.
Kamu knelt by Spock and pressed on his chest. Then he leaned down and started assisted breaths. He spit the flesh into Spock's mouth. Nyota hurried over to Spock.
"I will help," she said.
Kamu continued the heart massages, and Nyota gave breaths. The crowd grew silent as they tried to revive Spock. Finally, Spock's eyes opened. He reached up and touched Nyota's cheek and pulled her face to his. He swallowed the flesh and kissed her.
Kamu's blood surged. He had been affected by the hormone during the time he carried the flesh in his mouth. He looked around and saw Stonn on the ground. Kamu stumbled over, stroking his lok. He had to quell the burning. Kamu flipped Stonn his belly. He pulled off Stonn's sarong and mounted Spock's greatest adversary. Once again the crowd erupted.
Spock got up on his feet and lifted Nyota into his arms. He placed her on the slab of stone and used the gown to clean her hands. Then he lifted her into his arms and walked out of the theater. Sarek rushed to follow. Spock's blood was burning when they arrived in the surgical suite. Sarek and two guards attempted to follow, and Spock twisted the neck of one of the guards and slammed the door.
Sarek was satisfied. Spock had finally become a mature V'Tosh. Human offspring would be unsuitable, but Sarek would allow Spock to keep the female. She and Kamu had saved Spock's life.
Sarek also decided that fewer Vulcans would be needed on Earth if loyal Terrans were trained to maintain control. They would be a ruling class of humans who kept the other humans in check. Kamu was proof that humans could be trained to exercise control.
