Chapter Seventeen

It had been almost a year and a half since everything went down and Sam ran off in isolation to find answers.

First Lillian had fallen into a coma. The brothers found no answers involving what happened to their sister or how to help her predicament. They tried tracking down demons and keeping tabs on anything that could be a lead. Though everything came up cold. She is still resting in her room at Bobby's, sleeping gracefully.

Then Sam got kidnapped by Azazel shortly after. It turned out the demon's plans all along was to have Sam and all the other people who were victims of Azazels games fight each other other to the death. He wanted the champion of the death match to lead his demon army. There was a victory where Azazel was finally defeated. Though in the events that took place that night things escalated and tragic events unfolded.

Sam died.

Dean went to a crossroads demon and sold his soul for Sam's life. The demon gave him only one year. He also tried cutting in more to the deal to have Lily wake up but the demon wouldn't allow it. Dean tried getting information on what was wrong with Lillian but the demon acted as if she didn't know anything. Dean could only take what he could get at that moment, at least Lily was still alive, just not conscious.

Then about five months ago Dean was dragged to hell by Lilith's hellhounds.

They tried everything they could to get Dean out of the deal. Sam somewhat allied himself with a demon named Ruby. Dean had hated her and having her around but he accepted the help every so often. Though in the end they couldn't stop the inevitable.

Now Sam has been on his own. Trying to find Lilith. He needs his brother back. He needs his sister back. Sam had to get answers for Lillian and revenge for Dean. He had been in total isolation from anyone he knew for the past few months hunting for the demon responsible for his grievances.

Sam felt guilty leaving his sisters side, it was hard for him to do but he knew she was being left in good hands with Bobby. If she woke up then Sam knew Bobby would call him right away and Sam would be there in an instant. Sam told himself one of the reasons why he was doing this was for her. He had already tried everything to solve the mystery of what happened. Now all he had left to do was to follow his gut and take the main bitch head on.

One thing that did bother him was when he had brought Ruby to see her a few weeks after Dean had passed.

Sam and Ruby were both standing outside of Bobby's house. The hunter turned to the short brunette anxiously, "Bobby is not going to be happy. It's been a while since I've spoken to him and now I'm showing up with you."

Ruby rolls her eyes, "He'll get over it." She walks up the steps to his front door and knocks loudly.

Bobby answers the door and takes at look at his guests. He greets Sam but turns to Ruby, not letting her take a step through the door.

"Who's your friend Sam?" Bobby questioned the younger hunter, though he kept his eyes on the girl.

Ruby answered before Sam could get a chance. "Cmon old man you don't remember me? I know I got a different face this time but that's just rude" she rolled her eyes dramatically.

Bobby looked over at Sam, hesitating what to do next. Why is Sam working with demons? Nothing good ever comes out of it. Plus Bobby thought they got rid of her after Dean went to hell. Sam nodded to Bobby trying to reassure his worries that everything is going to go smoothly with this.

Bobby finally broke his silence and admitted to knowing the demon before him "Ruby."

"You got it" she smiled. "Now may I enter?" She gestured towards the door.

"Hold on a damn second!" Bobby turned to Sam again, who was standing in the entrance of the doorway with Bobby. "It's been a few weeks since your brother.. You haven't returned my calls for weeks, had me worrying. Then gone and showed up here unexpectedly bringing a demon to my doorstep! What kind of idjit nonsense is this!" Bobby was fuming.

Sam exhaled slowly and put his hands out in front of him as a way to ease the tension in the room. "I'm trying to find a way to help save my brother and sister. Ruby wants to help. We couldn't get Dean out of his deal but we have to find a way to get him out of hell. For Lily.. a demon hurt her and Ruby is a demon. It would be smart to have one look at her and see if they know or recognize the magic."

Bobby thought for a minute. He didn't realize Ruby had stepped in the room next to Sam while they were talking. "I only want to help Sam." She spoke up, almost sounding sincere.

"Dean wouldn't want her anywhere near Lillian!" Bobby said pointing to Ruby.

Sam had a cold determined look on his face, "Deans not here right not Bobby." He walked past the older man towards the upstairs room as Ruby followed. Bobby was left feeling useless with his mouth slightly agape.

Once they were outside of Lillian's room, Sam hesitated for a moment. It was painful to see his sister like this. Alive but not awake. No life and light in her closed eyes. Zero interaction. He could almost mistake her for a corpse if it wasn't for the rise and fall of her breaths and the warmth of her skin.

"Are you ready?" Ruby asked interrupting his thoughts as she grew impatient at the door.

Sam nodded and turned the door knob. He gestured for her to walk in and he followed behind her. He closed the door behind him and stayed the corner not wanting to get too close. He didn't want to get overwhelmed and distracted. Ruby stalked over towards the bed and sat next to Lillian.

"I could possess her, then I would really see what's going on in there." Ruby suggested turning her head in Sam's direction.

He shook his head. "No! You're not possessing my sister" Sam was disgusted that she even suggested such a thing. Shaking his head in Ruby's direction he slouched himself against the wall and watched Ruby work.

Ruby shrugged her shoulders. She brushed a dark strand of hair out of Lillian's face and rested her hands on top her head. "What are you doing?" Sam questioned.

"I told you, I was a witch in my previous life. I'm feeling her energy. You said she's basically comatose? I'm making sure she's fully intact, all there, her conscious and life force. I'm making sure it's not weakened or being drained. Without touching her soul."

"Touching her soul?" Sam questioned.

Ruby sighed annoyed that she has to explain everything. "Touching someone's soul is invasive and dangerous. I've never done it. You learn everything about the person whose soul you touch. This method I'm doing is not harmful." Ruby moved her hands down and rested them on Lillian's chest now. "Now shut up so I can focus."

Her eyes were closed now as she focused on Lillian's energy. Ruby felt something prickling at the surface of the energy. She started to feel something inhumane. Ruby wanted to pull away, though ever so curious she let her hands linger a few seconds longer. She felt something strong. Stronger than she's ever felt in all her years. It seems it was just hiding. Though part of her also believes she could've been able to feel it in the room this whole time but it's such a strong weighted energy that it blinded her ability to be able to feel it until she directly sought it out. She felt a shiver go down her spine. There was something sinister about this and that's saying a lot because Ruby is a demon.

Pulling away abruptly, Ruby snapped her head towards Sam "What is she?" No longer touching the girl Ruby could still feel the immense power radiating off of her.

"What? What do you mean?" Sam was confused by the question.

Ruby had no time for stupidity. He most likely didn't know. If he had known why would he bring her there. Ruby stood up from her spot ready to leave. Standing with her back towards Lillian she could feel the power radiating off the women laying in the bed. She could feel it creeping down her back, unnerving her.

"I need to leave now." Ruby blurted out, quickly walking towards the door where Sam stood.

"Ruby?! What! What about Lillian?!" Sam grabbed the demon. He was blocking the door and upset by Ruby's sudden need to leave. He was also confused and worried by the look of fear she was trying to hide that was obvious in her eyes.

"From what I can tell your sister is fine, mentally and physically she is stable and strong… so strong." She said quickly as she shoved Sam away. She walked past him leaving Bobby's as quickly as possible.

Sam was left unsure of what to make of the events that had just unfolded and had to process his thoughts alone again as he stared up at his sister.

It troubled Sam thinking about that day when he brought Ruby over. What scared her? Was there something truly wrong with his sister and Ruby lied about it? Should he be worried? Maybe it really does have something to do with Lilith and Ruby is scared of her. He's thought about questioning Ruby further but he knows she wouldn't budge on it. For now Sam will continue to get stronger with the help of Ruby so he can hunt Lilith and save his siblings.
