GRADUATION
*7 YEARS LATER*
Naruto strolled through the village, his long blonde locks swaying in the wind. His hair was now pretty long, with two bangs reaching eye level, and the tip of the bangs being black from the Kyuubi's influence. He was donned in a red, high-collared shirt and his legs were decorated by black cargo pants that stopped at his knees. Lastly, he had black ninja tape around his wrist and the same tape around his ankles. He topped the fit off with dark red ninja boots.
Over the long period of time that he spent at the academy, he consistently stayed number one in all aspects, finally figuring out how to control his immense chakra and perform a bunshin properly as that was the only thing holding him back from 'the best' spot at the Academy. He could feel the glares on his back as he made his way to the Academy for what he had hoped would be his last time.
At this point, Naruto did not care about their hate and only returned their glares with more ferocity. His ambitions to destroy Konoha and kill every one of its citizens was stronger than ever and it only grew over these seven years. Especially that Sakura girl, she would die first. She hated him the most of all the students at the Academy and he scoffed. She would train her ass off, even reaching the second spot under Hinata as the best girl at the Academy, and for what? She could barely scratch him every time they sparred. It was laughable.
It all started the day after her parents were arrested. Yes, even Naruto heard of the event. Who didn't? He lived reasonably close to the Haruno household and peered out his window, seeing all the chaos. He could remember the glare Sakura had given him through his window, and he could never understand why. He almost choked remembering that glare. Even all these years later, it was almost as hateful as his glare.
FLASHBACK
Naruto Uzumaki watched with a satisfied smirk the chaos that was unfolding over at the old Haruno house down the block. This was just a taste of what he could do when he was finally strong enough to bring the mighty village to its knees.
Sirens, wailing, shinobi, green eyes, and pink hair...
Slowly, the van holding the two adults slowly drifted off to the local Konoha Police Station run by the Uchihas. The crowd dispersed just as fast as it came. Yet one person was still there, their form quivering with sobs and racking coughs. He noticed the hair and eyes and was slightly unnerved by the dullness of her normally energetic, vibrant pupils.
There, Sakura Haruno stood, motionless. Slowly, she craned her head up towards Naruto's frame which was hiding behind the large glass window of his apartment.
Had he not been Uzumaki Naruto, he would have shit his pants at the glare he received. It was bloodthirsty, vengeful, and lastly...sad? Her dull eyes shined, not like before with happiness and sunshine, but with hate and a thirst for blood.
Naruto shut his windows slowly, turning on his heel and jumping into bed, two green pupils flashing in his mind before his eyes shut
Darkness.
FLASHBACK OVER
Naruto finally reached the door to Iruka's classroom, not before tripping a boy who glared at him. Slowly, he turned the nob and walked in, noting that everyone was silent as he appeared and sat next to his classmate, Hinata Hyuuga.
She had grown into quite the capable beauty. Her indigo hair reached her backside and her smooth face had sharpened up. Her lavender eyes shone with confidence and her skin was as clear as a baby's. She wore a black sweater that contained her ample chest and ninja shorts with tape on the right side. To top off her outfit, she wore dark blue ninja sandals.
When it came to personality, however, it was a different story. She was kind, yet confident and never mistreatment by anyone, even Naruto. That was something he could respect. She also seemingly never tried to hurt him in any way, so he would spare her in his Konoha Crush plan. Of course, she was the strongest female in the Academy and garnered quite a large fan club.
"Hello, Naruto-kun," Hinata said to the boy as he grabbed a seat next to her desk, "I hope you're having a good day today."
Naruto just glared at her before staring straight into the chalkboard's soul, eliciting a giggle from the Hyuuga heiress as she too turned to focus on the front of the class.
"Naruto, fight me!" Two voices sounded from the class. One voice was easily distinguishable as Sasuke's. He was excited at the prospect of leaving the Academy, but he was not happy that he would leave being number two to the blonde. Of course, he had to surpass Itachi and beat his first-place record at the Academy.
The other one was for a lack of better word, spiteful...
It belonged to none other than Sakura Haruno. She was sick of being second-best to Hinata, and fourth-best to Naruto. He was a demon, he was evil! He had to be ousted from his position and of course, she would take that place as hers rightfully and avenge her parents ' downfall at the hands of the boy.
Naruto continued to ignore them until it became apparent that they were not going to stop pestering him for a battle. He was at Neji's level right now, far ahead of these two, and he intended to keep it that. So why not put them in their places?
"Alright, fine...Sasuke, Haruno-san," Naruto said, smirking at Sakura's anger when he used her last name. "I will indulge both of you weaklings and put you in your places. At the same time."
Sasuke bristled at the boy's condescending comment, charging at him with a left hook ready to connect. Naruto easily blocked it before sweeping his legs and thoroughly embarrassing him. Of course, he did not have time to dodge Sakura's powerful blow and he staggered, grabbing his face and muttering curses.
"Damn Haruno, you will pay for that!" Naruto exclaimed before rushing towards the stunned pink-haired girl and delivering three quick blows in rapid succession. The girl took all of them, channeling green chakra into her body and sustaining the blows with a minimum of fuss.
'What?' Naruto thought, seemingly annoyed. He was sick of playing with these insects, Haruno was even more of a nuisance than the Uchiha and she had to be dealt with first, seeing as she had this new healing ability at her disposal.
Just as he was about to pursue the Haruno, a punch to his back stopped him. This time, he was furious. Snarling, Naruto turned to look at who it was.
"Sasuke Uchiha," Naruto warned, his eyes turning a slight crimson color. "Prepare to meet death." His words were chilling. Downright terrifying. The class was at a loss for words, their two teammates were going to die at the hands of this demon that was their classmate. The room turned chilly as killing intent leaked from the boy's frame.
Hinata stood up shakily.
"Naruto-kun, stop." She commanded the boy who turned towards her with a chakra-enhanced glare.
"Who said you were in charge, Hyuuga?" Naruto questioned, quirking his head to the side with a devious smirk before turning back to the raven-haired Uchiha. With a pop of his knuckle, he punched the boy square in his stomach and caused bile to rapidly leak out of his mouth. Dropping him unceremoniously, he turned towards the two top females of the class and grinned. "Who's next?"
"Rah!" Sakura screamed, outraged at the boy's callous disregard for Sasuke's well-being and his cold, arrogant demeanor. She charged towards the boy, ignoring Hinata's cries for her to stop and for them to work together to defeat the boy.
Naruto sidestepped the punch. It was slow to him. He cocked his fist back before delivering a deadly punch to the girl's solar plexus, knocking her out cold. With one last turn towards the remaining combatant, he asked, "You were always a smart girl, Hinata. Give up, now!" His statement was accompanied by yet another dosage of killing intent. This time it was way stronger than the last.
"No, Naruto-kun...For the sake of my classmates, I will not stand down." Hinata said to the boy, steeling her resolve. Of course, her efforts begot an arrogant chuckle from the demon-boy. "What's so funny?" She asked, narrowing her eyes at the boy's frame.
"Nothing, it's just funny that you think you can win this.." Naruto said before pointing at the other two he had carelessly dispatched. "If they couldn't do it, what makes you so fit for the job?"
Hinata shook her head, opting not to respond and continue playing this game with the boy who was clearly set on beating them down. Activating her Byakugan, she charged. "Here I come!" Hinata exclaimed before launching herself at the boy's frame, her hands already getting in the proper position. "Eight-Trigrams Six-" Her technique was cut short by yelling.
"What on earth is going on here?!" A loud scream sounded from the doorway of the class. There stood their instructor, Iruka Umino, and his companion, Mizuki. "What is the meaning of this?!"
Hinata, turning off her Byakugan, began to explain. "Naruto-kun was challenged by Sasuke-kun and Sakura-san to a fight, they got a little carried away and I had to step in. As you can see, Naruto-kun was the victor of the battle.." Hinata said before pointing to the down forms of the two students.
Iruka shook his head before sending Mizuki off to take the two to the infirmary. "Naruto Uzumaki, you are in no way allowed to fight in the Academy like that! Especially if you are going to knock them out!" He said, sending off waves of anger. Secretly, he was astonished at the boy's strength and ability to dispatch some of the most promising students the Academy had in this class, easily so if Hinata said was anything to go by.
Naruto shrugged, his eyes returning to their normal ocean blue and he sat down at his seat. "They started it, I finished it.." He said, his tone even.
"Hang on kids, I'll be back in a little bit. Hinata and Mizuki, watch over Naruto for me!" Iruka stated as he watched Mizuki and Hinata both nod and Naruto growl. He did not need to be watched over like some type of baby!
HOKAGE'S OFFICE
Iruka teleported to the Hokage's Office before getting on a knee in front of the old leader. "Hokage-sama!"
"That is me, Iruka-san. What is that you need, and why are you barging into my office unannounced?" Hiruzen said, his voice low and icy. His precious Icha-Icha reading time had been cut short by the instructor's appearance.
"I am here to relay information about one Uzumaki Naruto," Iruka said, piqueing the leader's interest.
"Go on," Hiruzen said, taking a drag out of his pipe before beckoning the man to continue.
"Before I arrived at the Academy, it seems that Sasuke Uchiha and Sakuro Haruno challenged Naruto Uzumaki to fight, inside the classroom," Iruka said, examining the Hokage's face. When he saw nothing of importance, he continued. "Well, it went just like you would expect, Naruto thrashed them both before Hinata Hyuuga stepped in, and that's where I came in, stopped the fight, and here I am now." He concluded by watching the Hokage's face house a torrent of emotions.
"So you are inadequate?" Hiruzen inquired with a deadpan, much to the annoyance of the chuunin man. "You came late to your post, and are surprised that twelve-year-olds had a battle in your absence?"
"Hokage-sa" Iruka was cut off.
"I will find a suitable punishment for you later. For now, please give your input on what to do regarding Naruto Uzumaki, chuunin Iruka." Hiruzen cut off, his pipe smoking as he scratched his grey beard.
Iruka internally bristled at the Hokage's mistreatment of him. It had become a habit of his and Iruka did not like it at all. Alas, what could he do?
"I say that we remove Naruto Uzumaki from the position of Team Kakashi, demote Yugao to Jonin, and make her his Jonin-sensei. He should be a one-man team, alone." Iruke proposed a preposterous idea, but it was slowly starting to unravel in Hiruzen's head and he couldn't find an issue with it other than Yugao's obvious unhappiness with that decision. Oh well, the village mattered more than her happiness.
"A very interesting idea, Iruka..." Hiruzen trailed, lightly puffing on the pipe in his mouth. "I believe that would work if we can get around Yugao's unhappiness at the situation."
"Thank you, Hokage-sama," Iruka said, "If you will excuse me, I must leave to commence the exams and announce the teams." With a nod, the Hokage allowed him to go, watching as his form disappeared almost instantly.
'Let's see what the future holds for you, young Naruto..'
"What?!" Yugao's anger was almost palpable. She was one of the best ANBU on the job, consistently coming back from missions, having them complete, no questions asked.
This was how she was repaid for her hard work?! Being demoted from ANBU to Jonin and having to mentor one of the most violent children Konoha has ever created?!
"I know you are angry, Yugao-san, but this is for the best.." Hiruzen trailed before continuing, "Naruto is in need of guidance. You have a rough history with the village, and all that Naruto needs is someone to relate to. I am sure you know of his ambitions, and you are the right woman to stop it." He said, his old voice croaking slightly near the end.
"I understand Hokage-sama, this is all just so strange.." Yugao said. It was a complete one-eighty from her normal life. She would do ANBU missions, come back home, train, lounge around, and spend time with her significant other, Hayate. Now, her life was flipped upside down with the new arrival of Naruto Uzumaki.
"I do not mean to bring up any bad memories, so forgive me if I do so, but you were once subject to Danzo's rule. Naruto was too. If you can both bond over that experience, I believe you can turn Naruto into a force to be reckoned with, someone who truly embodies the Will of Fire." Hiruzen closed, his eyes boring deep into Yugao's brown ones.
"Yes, Hokage-sama," Yugao said before teleporting away to the Academy where she would eventually meet her new student, Naruto Uzumaki.
She was nervous, to say the least.
Iruka Umino returned to the Academy room, clipboard in tow. "Today, my beloved students," Iruka said, wiping actual tears from his eyes, "We will part ways and I will only watch from this little Academy desk as you will grow to be wonderful Konoha shinobi." The instructor sniffled, not being able to restrain the tears that left his eyes.
Of course, the class followed suit, wiping their eyes slightly as they dampened with moisture. Naruto just scoffed at their weakness. 'Pathetic.'
"I don't want to keep you or your future senseis waiting. Without further ado, let's begin!" Just like that, name after name was called as they entered the room where testing was being situated. Some left with headbands and smiles, others left with disappointment written all over their faces.
"Sasuke Uchiha!" Iruka called from the testing room. The newly awoken Uchiha boy shot a glare towards Naruto before walking into the room only to be met by a smirk from the blonde.
"Don't get your hopes up, Uchiha. You'll probably fail.." Naruto said, a smirk playing on his face as he enjoyed taunting his 'fellow student.'
Sasuke scoffed before turning on his heel and entering the room and returning with a ninja headband loosely tied to his forehead. His face sported a large smirk as he gazed at the blonde arrogantly. "Scored an 11/10, do better than that, Uzumaki." He said, his headband glinting when the light of the Academy ceiling hit it.
"That's pathetic, Sasuke. I would and will do way better." Naruto said, not even acknowledging the boy's presence. His eyes were trained on the room that held the testees and he couldn't wait to just get it over with.
"Sakura Haruno!" Iruka called from the room once again. Trudging past both of them was Sakura Haruno. Nothing was on her mind other than becoming a shinobi so she could exact her revenge on the blonde that had caused her family so much pain. Of course, her defeat to him earlier in the morning was humiliating, and she would no doubt pay him back when she became powerful enough.
Naruto's laughter echoed in her head as she entered the room.
Basically, everyone had passed the exams. They were beyond easy. He could still remember what the Hokage had told him about the Academy and the 'strength' it offered him.
He literally lied through his teeth and Naruto found it laughable. Regardless, his turn had come up and he was not about to be bested by some two-bit entrance exam.
"Naruto Uzumaki!" Rung from the empty room. The class gave him a wide berth as he made his way through the endless seams of desks and chairs in order to make it to the room.
"Don't fail, loser," Sasuke whispered, his face marred with a smirk that Naruto did not appreciate. It was fine though, Naruto knew Sasuke was doing this out of anger that he would always be second best not only to him but his older brother.
"Don't plan on it.." Naruto said before entering the room with a stony look on his face.
"To get it started, Naruto, please make a bunshin." Iruka said, his face impassive.
Naruto happily obliged, putting his hands into the appropriate sign and calling out "Bunshin no Jutsu!" Out came three healthy-looking clones of Naruto, all having identical faces of impassiveness.
"Excellent, Naruto," Mizuki said, his face barely hiding the hatred and disgust present in it.
"Next up, a transformation jutsu!" Iruka said, beckoning for the boy to start.
Naruto transformed into Iruka, his form was impeccable, flawless even. His body was enshrouded in plumes of smoke and he reverted back to his old body.
"Lastly, use the substitution jutsu!" Iruka said.
Naruto put his hands in the appropriate signs before gathering chakra and substituting with the clipboard in Iruka's hands, giving the man a scare.
Much to Naruto's amusement, the man tried to regain his bearing but was very annoyed.
"You pass Naruto, with a 12/10!" Iruka said, still annoyed at the boy's crude behavior. He threw the blonde boy a red headband and watched as Naruto scowled at it before tying it onto his forehead before swiftly leaving the room.
'Looks like I'll have to deliver the Scroll of Sealing to Orochimaru-sama myself...' Mizuki thought devilishly, his face marred with a scowl at Naruto's retreating form.
Iruka and Mizuki had walked out of the testing room and were reading off of their clipboards, announcing the teams.
Slowly, genin started filing out as their appropriate senseis came to pick them up.
"Next up, Team 7, under Kakashi Hatake! Sakura Haruno, Sasuke Uchiha, and Sai!" Sakura and Sasuke grimaced at the announcement. They barely knew Sai yet he was always smiling that fake smile, and to top it off, he was one of Danzo's former soldiers.
"Team 8, under Kurenai Yuhi, Hinata Hyuuga, Kiba Inuzuka, and Shino Aburame!" Iruka read again, eliciting cheers from the dog-boy who was ecstatic at being placed on the same team as his crush, Hinata. The girl in question smiled softly and the Aburame of course had no outside reaction.
"Team 10, under Asuma Sarutobi, Ino Yamanaka, Shikamaru Nara, and Choji Akimichi!" His announcement was met by groans from Shikamaru and Ino, yet for very different reasons. For one, Ino was incredibly pissed that she was not placed on the same team as Sasuke and was instead placed with bums like Shikamaru and Choji. Shikamaru himself did not want to be on the same team as the 'troublesome' blonde Ino Yamanaka, and Choji, well Choji couldn't care less. He was just munching on his chips.
"Lastly Team 11, under Yugao Uzuki, Naruto Uzumaki!" He announced, eliciting gasps from the class. Why was Naruto a one-man team? Who was Yugao? They sure felt bad for her.
Slowly, the genin all left until there was only Team 7 and Naruto remaining.
The door creaked and out came a woman with long purple hair, brown eyes, and was donned in standard Jonin attire. "Naruto Uzumaki?" She called, and when she was stared at by the blonde boy with blue eyes she knew she had her student. "Come with me..."
