(Izuku)
With a yelp, Izuku quickly raises his shield in front of himself, just in time to deflect a sword strike aimed to pierce his side. Quickly recovering, he slashes in retaliation, only for his strike to be parried and a spectral blade to find itself at his throat.
Backing away, Kaltish lowers her blade and scowls, "You're hesitating too much, if this were an actual fight you'd have died in about three different ways by now."
Izuku lets out a tired sigh, "I know, I know, b-but I've never really done something like this, other than our last training exercise of course. My body may be used to it now because of The System, but I don't think I'm mentally prepared."
Kaltish sighs, "Yeah, I can tell. Alright, lets give this one more try, and if it doesn't click then we'll shift gears and move to something else for now."
Izuku gives a small nod, readying his shield for her approach.
With her pact weapon in one hand, Kaltish begins casting a spell, conjuring a second blade of inky darkness in her off hand. Before Izuku can react to this new development, Kaltish is on his, dual blades working in tandem to weather his defenses.
Izuku grits his teeth, he can barely keep his guard up in this onslaught. In his mind's eye, he imagines this scenario with a Villain instead of his mentor, helpless civilians in the line of fire if he gives up now. Time seems to slow as he imagines what would happen to them if he fell in combat.
Watching as Kaltish's blade descends, Izuku steels himself. He can do this. He needs to do this. He needs to prove to himself, here and now, that he can smile at those civilians and inspire hope. Hope for the future, and that they'll be able to leave this horrible situation behind as nothing more than a faint memory.
Quickly taking action, and with a fluid grace Izuku didn't think he was capable of, Izuku bats Kaltish's strike aside, his shield slamming into her wrist and causing her to drop her primary weapon in surprise, before he swiftly follows up with a slash that sends the other weapon flying out of her grasp, dissipating soon after it leaves her hand. With his opponent now defenseless, Izuku wastes no time in placing his blade at his mentor's throat.
(Kaltish)
Kaltish can't help herself, her eyebrows fly up as she finds herself locked in Izuku's determined gaze with his sword at her neck. Seeing him move like that as well being held in that now familiar determined gaze, she can't be anything less than impressed. It was actually kind hot, not that she'd ever be saying it, but she might have to file that info away for later use.
Soon getting over her shock, a smirk settles on her face, "Not bad. Now, I don't know what you did to finally make the connection, but hold onto that feeling. It'll help carry you through some of your toughest battles. Also-"
With a quick flick of her wrist, she recalls her Shadow Blade. With a swift and practiced motion, she easily disarms her student before taking his blade. After that, it's just a simple matter of sweeping the leg before Izuku finds himself on the ground with both blades crossed over his neck.
Kaltish smiles sweetly at him, "Don't assume a fight is over until your opponent is either dead, unconscious, or has given up completely."
Dismissing both her Shadow Blade and pact weapon while tossing Izuku's sword to the side, she stands before offering her pupil a hand up which he gladly takes.
As Izuku dusts himself off and retrieves his blade, a new window with a message from the system appears. Taking a peak over his should to read it, Kaltish can't help her grin at what it says.
Congratulations! You've leveled up!
~~~~Chapter ends here~~~~
These are the abilies Kaltish used in their spar
Pact Boon
Pact of the Blade:
You can use your action to create a pact weapon in your empty hand. You can choose the form that this melee weapon takes each time you create it. You are proficient with it while you wield it. This weapon counts as magical for the purpose of overcoming resistance and immunity to nonmagical attacks and damage.
Your pact weapon disappears if it is more than 5 feet away from you for 1 minute or more. It also disappears if you use this feature again, if you dismiss the weapon (no action required), or if you die.
You can transform one magic weapon into your pact weapon by performing a special ritual while you hold the weapon. You perform the ritual over the course of 1 hour, which can be done during a short rest.
You can then dismiss the weapon, shunting it into an extradimensional space, and it appears whenever you create your pact weapon thereafter. You can't affect an artifact or a sentient weapon in this way. The weapon ceases being your pact weapon if you die, if you perform the 1-hour ritual on a different weapon, or if you use a 1-hour ritual to break your bond to it. The weapon appears at your feet if it is in the extradimensional space when the bond breaks.
Spell
Shadow Blade:
2nd-level illusion
Casting Time: 1 bonus action
Range: Self
Components: V, S
Duration: Concentration, up to 1 minute
You weave together threads of shadow to create a sword of solidified gloom in your hand. This magic sword lasts until the spell ends. It counts as a simple melee weapon with which you are proficient. It deals 2d8 psychic damage on a hit and has the finesse, light, and thrown properties (range 20/60). In addition, when you use the sword to attack a target that is in dim light or darkness, you make the attack roll with advantage.
If you drop the weapon or throw it, it dissipates at the end of the turn. Thereafter, while the spell persists, you can use a bonus action to cause the sword to reappear in your hand.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a 3rd- or 4th-level spell slot, the damage increases to 3d8. When you cast it using a 5th- or 6th-level spell slot, the damage increases to 4d8. When you cast it using a spell slot of 7th level or higher, the damage increases to 5d8.
A/N: Alright, another chapter down, and Izuku is finally going to level up. Now, for Paladins this mean getting access to spellcasting as well as their most well known feature, Divine Smite. For those who don't know, it lets them trade a spellcasting resource for extra damage on melee attack. It's also so good it's used in every busted melee damage power build in the fucking game. So yeah, fear the broccoli. Anyway, I'll get to updating his character sheet and then work on some other stuff. See you next time.
