Chapter 41 A New Member of the Family

The weeks had passed since the gang returned to the bunker after their ordeal in St. Louis. Once they got back, it was business as usual around the bunker, as Dean, Sam and Ava shared their stories to the ever-curious Charlie and Adam. Sometimes Castiel would drop in the all the more, the merrier as they always enjoyed having him around. Sam and Gwen continued taking turns contacting each other on the phone and sometimes they would be talking much longer than they thought as over an hour would pass before they said their goodbyes.

Then soon March would end and April finally arrived before they all knew it and that meant that Gwen would finally come to live among them and Sam was so excited for finally have the woman he loves staying with him from now on as much as he was a bit scary for him too. It was planned that they would all go up to fetch her on a Saturday and the day before, they all packed some of their things that afternoon, ate their dinner very early and went to bed much earlier than usual being in bed by 8:00pm since they were going get up in several hours to get ready for their trip. The lights were out and everything and Dean and Ava didn't even make love like they usually do at nights but just went to sleep.

Then at 3:00am, they all woke up at the sound of the alarm clocks they had in their rooms. They quickly got up out of their beds still sleepy and got dressed, they didn't get washed up at all since they all took their showers the previously morning. They gathered their things and even fetched some food to bring with them on the trip for snacks. It was about twenty minutes to four when they all finally headed out to the garage, this time taking Ava's van instead of the Impala since it's bigger and has plenty of more room for all of the stuff Gwen will bring with her. They had considered getting Castiel to transport them to Madame Bess's house, but they realized that they can't keep using Castiel as a personal taxi whenever, besides Castiel told them as much and hinted he won't be available unless it's an emergency from now on and that he's got other things he's doing while still trying to figure out his mission.

They all got in the van with Dean now driving as he and Ava agreed to take shifts in driving the van. They headed out of the garage and down the dirt road and soon out on the real road. It was still dark as they drove on through the night as Dean drove, the others decided to get some more rest and slept on during the ride. They drove on for many hours and it was already daylight after couple hours had passed. By 8:30 in the morning, they finally stopped at a fast-food restaurant to get some breakfast. They wanted to get there quite early when the place wasn't crowded besides it was a Saturday morning when most of the people are at home.

The group got their breakfast mostly scrambled eggs and sausages, one bacon sandwich and one eggs omelet with orange juice for drinks. After finishing their breakfast and some using the restroom, the gang all headed out back to the van and back on the road with this time Ava driving while Dean got to get some rest and mostly slept on. They stopped again once time to use the restroom at the gas station and at nearly 1:00 in the afternoon for to get some lunch at a diner. They all ate their food in the van with Dean gulping his burger and some fries as while he was driving this time. They finally arrived at Madame Bess's place sometime after 2:00pm and both Madame Bess and Gwen greeted them all of them with Sam and Gwen exchanging kisses.

All of them relaxed for while in the living room and just chatted away just talking about anything. After about a half an hour, they all got up to head upstairs in Gwen's bedroom to help her get her stuff. Gwen had already packed everything with all her clothes in suitcases. She had even bought extra suitcases to have more room for almost all her clothes and some personal items she had packed in two duffel bags and extra clothes in her backpack since Sam told her on the phone the other day that she should pack some extra clothes in a bag because they might spend the night at a motel. She also packed other belongings like books in a couple boxes she had. She didn't take all her books leaving some of the ones she already read behind for her grandmother to keep or give away to the library and there was her laptop she had in a case.

Everybody except Madame Bess pitched in and took all her belongings and loaded them into the van although Gwen wore her backpack on her. After they were done, it was time for them to say their goodbyes as they were planning to be on the road again.

"I hope you're not going to just drive all the way back to Kansas the whole day. It will be very late by the time you get there, and I don't think you should drive the whole night" Madame Bess replied.

"No, the plan we will stop when it gets really late and stay at a motel for the night and then drive the rest of the way in the morning" Dean explained.

"Well, that's a relief" said Madame Bess, then she had a bit of a sad expression on her face.

"Okay, I guess this is goodbye" she replied almost teary eyed.

"Oh, grandmom please don't cry" Gwen told her looking a bit sad herself.

"It's just that I'm going to miss you, I can't help it with you moving far away and all" said Madame Bess nearly in tears.

"Grandmom, you knew this was going to happen someday, you even said it yourself that you expected me to leave home to be a with a man I want to spend my life with. You told me I shouldn't just expect to live with you forever especially since you won't always be around, and I should have somebody special in my life. Plus, we have been preparing for me to leave home for a while now" Gwen said almost teary eyed herself.

"I know and I meant every word I said but it still hits me that once you're out that door you won't be back and not just under my roof, I mean I won't be seeing you every day because you will be miles away in another state and I didn't expect it to hit me real hard like this" Madame Bess said.

"It's rough for me too but we both know it's something I have to do, and I will miss you too grandmom" Gwen said as the two women hugged each other while the others looked on feeling a bit touched and a little sorry for Madame Bess.

"Hey, don't worry ma'am Gwen is in great hands, we assure you" said Sam.

"Yeah, we'll all look after her and she will be among friends" Ava added.

"Oh, I'm so sorry for getting so emotional and all, I don't want to spoil my granddaughter's day since she's going to be with Sam, the man she loves" Madame Bess replied wiping her eyes.

"Hey, don't worry ma'am we understand, we get it's hard for you and all" Dean said trying to be sympathetic.

"Yeah, same goes for me, I don't like to think I'm taking her away from you but more like sharing a life with her" Sam said.

"You know Sam, I would like to talk to you alone for a bit before you all go if you don't mind" Madame Bess said to Sam.

"Me, well, okay we still got time" Sam replied and then followed Madame Bess in the kitchen.

As they entered the kitchen, they turned to face one another.

"You know Sam, I have to say, even though I didn't picture you and Gwen ending up together at first, I'm so glad that of all then men she had to pick it was you, and I'm still a wit weary of your lifestyle as a hunter and how Gwen will fit into that, because I'm sure there are going to be a lot of ups and downs for such and unusual life but I pray you muddle them through somehow. But I will urge you to please always look after her and keep her safe. I know sometimes she might be pulled into you and Dean's hunting life with all the dangers that come with it, and she wouldn't care so as long as she could help you all in anyway, but I trust you will do anything in your power to protect her always" Madame Bess replied.

"That means a lot ma'am and I will, I love your granddaughter and she loves me" Sam told her.

"Yes, I know, this is such a huge step for both of you and although not even a psychic like me can predict whatever happens between the two of you in the future, I'm rooting for you both to really settle down for better or for worse" Madame Bess replied causing Sam to have an awkward look on his face.

"Hey, not to worry not pushing for the M word just yet, but I can hope that what you have will be life-lasting" Madame Bess said.

"Well, thanks ma'am we are just going to take it one step at a time and see where it leads to" Sam said.

"Anyway, I think I said all what I have to say, and I will miss you too" she told him.

"Same goes for me, and I will say, you are welcome to visit anytime don't be a stranger" Sam told her.

"Oh, I have every intention of dropping in once and while and calling her occasionally, you will get used to seeing me pop up on occasions" Madame Bess replied.

"And if you ever plan to retire or are just feeling too lonely, you are free to move into the bunker with us, there is plenty of room" Sam said.

"Yes, Gwen told me already but, like I told her, my life is here in this city, and I could never leave this home whom I shared with my late husband when we first moved up here to start a family. There are just too many memories in this place, I could never give this all up but thanks for the sentiments anyhow" said Madame Bess.

"Anytime" Sam said as the two of them gave a nice hug.

Afterwards, they went back to hall where everybody else was. Then she said her goodbyes to everybody else hugging them all and wishing them a nice trip back. After everybody said their goodbyes, they all headed to the van, making room since all of Gwen's belongings took up some space and drove off as Madame Bess just stood on her driveway and waved goodbye to them and soon, they were back on the road again and far out of sight.

The drive back home was quite tedious with Dean and Ava taking turns driving the van while the others were just surrounded by Gwen's belongings with little room for themselves. They stopped a few times like for the restroom and dinner at a restaurant when evening came. When it got too late, they all headed to a nearby motel to spend the night with them all sharing a room in pairs, Dean and Ava, Sam and Gwen and Adam and Charlie who were the only two to have separate beds. Gwen changed into a nightgown she had in her backpack and soon they were all in bed with Dean and Ava having wild passionate sex, Sam and Gwen making love in a more romantic way while Adam and Charlie just went to sleep.

They got up the next morning and headed off after breakfast at a diner and finally make it back to the bunker by the afternoon. Everybody all pitched in to help bring Gwen's belongings into Sam's room which would also be her room. Gwen unpacked everything and put things away herself while the others just rested. Then she too decided to get some rest after a long ride. By that evening, they all celebrated Gwen being a new housemate by getting some pizza and beer except for Gwen who just drank soda.

Charlie was the first to speak up holding up her drink. "Okay, I would like to make a toast to Gwen, our new housemate, welcome to the Winchester family, and I say it's great to have another chick living under the same roof, and of course, I wish her and Sam to be happy together, I have to say I am a bit jealous, of both Dean and Sam here, having a couple of hot-looking chicks while I'm still single, but anyway a good welcome to you Gwen" she said.

"Hey, you're not the only one who doesn't have a good-looking chick, I'm too quite single but I hey, like Charlie says, welcome to the club" Adam added.

Everybody else agreed and cheered as they held up their drinks for the toast. Gwen just looked bashful. "Thanks guys, I'm glad to be here too. I always felt like you all were more than just my friends by like family after everything we've been through and I want to share my life with Sam here, it already feels like my new home" she told them.

"Well, it is home from now on" Sam told her as he put his arm around her.

"I concur, love having you here and like Charlie said it's great to have another gal here to hang out with" Ava added.

"Same here" Gwen said.

"Okay, okay enough with the mushy stuff already, Gwen gets the message we all glad to have her here but now let's just enjoy our meal and chill" Dean said.

Everybody agreed and just continued eating their pizza and drinking and afterwards, they all just hung out laughing, joking and having a good time all until it got pretty late that night and it was time for them to retire to bed. Later in bed, Gwen who shared a room with Sam put on her sexy nightgown and she and Sam made love on her first night living in the bunker before falling asleep cuddled together.

Life with Gwen was like having another member of a family as she was a great addition in the household. She and Sam occasionally went out just the two of them or they would go somewhere in another part of the bunker for privacy and time for themselves. Or sometimes she would go out with Ava, shopping, to the movies, or a girl's night out with Charlie who occasionally tagged along. She helped Ava with the cooking and fixing the meals, Charlie with the laundry or she went grocery shopping with Sam just another thing they could do together. When Ava's birthday arrived later that month, Gwen helped shop for a birthday cake for Ava, and helped plan the surprise birthday party with the others and it was one the best parties Ava had. Gwen mainly looked forward to nights when it was just her and Sam, maybe watching a movie together when the others are out or doing something else or exploring other parts of the bunker that Gwen never saw before.

Sometimes the whole gang would all hang out playing a game of cards or a board game they got or go out at nights to the bar, movie night or any other place to have fun. Of course, Gwen still missed her grandmother and would often call her on the phone and some of the times, she would put her phone on loudspeaker so the others could talk to her too. Madame Bess missed her too and promised to occasionally visit which she did after two weeks since Gwen moved there and stayed the weekend, and everybody went out their way to make her feel welcomed. The month of April soon came to an end and before they all knew it May arrived. Sam's birthday was on the second day of that month and Gwen brought him the birthday cake, made his favorite meal for dinner and helped organize a nice birthday party for him which he loved. She even got him a nice new hunting bag for a present and he was ever pleased.

Later that month, they finally had their next case that involved a group of wives suddenly murdering their husbands who have wronged them and not having any memory doing them that took place in Maine and Ava decided to go with them for this case. Gwen just stayed behind hanging out with Charlie and Adam and even went out for dinner to do something fun. They were gone for a few days occasionally calling and checking in and finally returned home all safe and sound. Gwen was relieved to have Sam back all in one piece and she cooked him a nice dinner that evening which they had separate from the others just the two of them. They retired to bed earlier than usual to continue their romantic night with good old lovemaking.

Two weeks later on a Friday one afternoon, Gwen decided to have a discussion with Sam while they had the bunker to themselves. Dean and Ava went out and Adam had his kickboxing class and Charlie had left earlier that morning to attend a Larp event in Missouri for a whole week. They were in the area watching some TV when Gwen decided to have their talk.

"You know Sam, we had discussed even before I moved here that I would likely get a job" she told him.

"I know Gwen, and I said that you didn't have since the credit card that Charlie gave you will last forever, the money will never run out. The one thing good about moving here, is you never have to worry about finances at all" Sam told her.

"I know but it is not about the money for me Sam. You see, I just don't want to just hang around the bunker all day and just play house, cooking and cleaning baking pies while you Dean and Ava go galloping around on your latest case" she said.

"Oh, come on Gwen, I don't expect you to do all of that and besides you have Adam and Charlie to here to keep you company" Sam said.

"I like hanging out with them but still I feel the need to do more to use my abilities outside the bunker and a good paying job is a start" said Gwen.

"I get it but I just thought you like being with me when I'm home or with Ava and Charlie since you girls also like to hang out together" Sam said.

"I love hanging out with Ava and Charlie, they are the closet friends that I ever have, and I love spending our times together as well. But face it, you Dean and Ava will go on your cases and sometimes Adam and Charlie have their own things they like to do with his kickboxing and she with her latest interest with the Larping thing. Besides, I want to do more than just hang out and play when there is nothing else to do, I just need to do something more useful and getting a job and earning my own money is a good way for me do just that" Gwen explained.

"I understand, this is really important to you?" Sam asked.

Gwen nodded her head. "Yeah Sam, I need to get out of this bunker more often or I will go crazy and be miserable" she told him.

"Well, I don't want you to be miserable and if you need to get a job in order to do something more fulfilling, then that is fine" Sam said.

"Thank you, Sam, because I really need from is support" Gwen said.

"Gwen, I will always support you in anything you do, it's just that this is unexpected" he said.

"Not to me, I have been thinking about this off and on ever since I moved into the bunker, I can't live like some traditional wife you see in those old TV shows, who just stay home and clean, shop or just play around all the time" Gwen told him.

"As much as I like having you around during the day, I don't expect you to especially whenever we go away on our cases" he told her.

"Good, I'm glad we have that settled" said Gwen.

"So, what do you have in mind for a job have you checked the wanted ads?" Sam asked.

"As a matter a fact I already found a potential job" Gwen told him.

"Where?" Sam asked.

"It's in Smith Center, a couple had opened up an antique shop last fall and is looking for more workers and no experience is necessary. I worked with my grandmom at her shop, so this is up my alley selling unique antiques" said Gwen.

"Okay so you're going in for a job interview?" Sam asked. Gwen nodded.

"Yes, the first thing on Monday in the morning, already typed out my resume" said Gwen eagerly.

"Well I wish you the best of luck, hope you get the job" Sam told her.

"So do I" Gwen said.

Later when Dean, Ava and Adam all returned to the bunker, Sam and Gwen announced the news and everybody was happy for her, wishing her good luck too.

"If you think about it, we will finally have a real working person in the household, who actually earns a living" Adam joked.

"Hey, what me, Sam and Ava do is also work. We may not get paid for it but going all over the country hunting down and killing monsters, getting rid of spirts hoping to come back alive in one piece is quite hard work, far harder than the typical nine to five job, I'm telling you" Dean replied.

"I have to agree with Dean here, but I'm still wishing you luck on this new job Gwen. It's still good for you to find something to do during the day, whatever makes you fulfilled" Ava said.

"Yeah, at least she's looking to get a job, don't recall you looking through wanted ads for anything" Dean fired back at Adam partly joking.

"Hey, I so happy to be a hunting-in-training, still waiting for the time you and Sam finally let me go out to work with you all" Adam told him.

"That is still a long way to come, you got a lot of work cut for you before we that happens plus, I'm admit I am still kind of hoping you change your mind and maybe decide to get job too like Gwen here" Dean told him.

"Hey, I'm up for the task, my skills are getting better, and I've studied everything I know about monsters and all that other hunting stuff and in no time, I will be joining you guys on cases and show you that I'm capable" Adam said.

"We'll see" replied Dean still feeling a bit reluctant. "I for the record hope you do get to go out and join your brothers on cases and rooting to prove them wrong someday" replied Gwen.

"Thanks Gwen, good someday other than Charlie has faith in me" Adam replied glaring at Dean and then Sam both.

"Now don't give the kid too much hope, he still needs a lot of work" Dean said.

"That I can do" Adam said.

"Okay, okay, enough about the hunting business, this is about Gwen and we're all rooting for you to get this job if that is what you really want" Ava said.

"Thanks, you all, that really means a lot" Gwen said.

"If you do get the job than that means you will bring home the bacon and maybe you can treat us all out to dinner sometimes" Adam Joked.

"We'll see" Gwen responded in playful manner.

Then on the following Monday, Sam drove her into Smith Center to the antique shop where she went in for her interview while Sam waited in the car. She was there for about a half hour when she came back out all excited and when she got into the car, she turned to Sam and cried out, "I got the job, I got the job!" looking so happy as she grabbed Sam by the face.

"Just like that, you got hired?" Sam asked her.

"Yes, they are so desperate for more employees and when I told them about my experience working with my grandmother in her shop, that seemed to be enough. They did decide to give me a trial period first and see how it goes but they said I don't need any experience" Gwen told him.

"Who exactly are these owners?" Sam asked.

"They are a middle-aged couple Mr. and Mrs. Atwood, they opened up the shop just last year and have been having trouble getting more employees and glad that someone like me showed up and be the answer to their prayers since the last employee quit to move away. I work during the week from 9:30 in the morning, a half an hour before the shop opens until 5:00 in the evening and get an half our lunch break. The shop closes at 6:00. Of course, during the weekend it opens at 9:00 and closes at eight and it is not open on Sundays, and I start tomorrow" she explained to him.

"Well, that's great, I happy for you, can't wait to share the news with the others" Sam said.

"Me neither" she said still excited.

Once they returned to the bunker and made sure everybody was home, she told them all the good news and they congratulated her.

"Hey, that's great, knew you could do it girl" Ava said patting her on the shoulder.

"You are the official working woman in this bunker or working person" Charlie added all happy for her.

"Yeah, you're basically the breadwinner now, hey Sam, I do you feel about your woman earning all the money" Adam couldn't resist but tease.

"Hey, whatever she likes is okay by me and besides we won't rely on her money thanks to the credit cards Charlie made for us here" Sam said as he slapped his arm around Gwen's shoulders.

"Yeah, and my invention is quite handy, I might say" Charlie said who could resist to brag as she just smirk feeling proud of herself.

"I for one kind of like earning my own money no offense to Charlie here, I think your credit cards are great for the others" Gwen explained.

"I understand" said Charlie.

"And now you can find something to do yourself instead of waiting around for Sam to return from the latest cases" Ava replied.

"Yeah, I really need something for myself too" Gwen said.

"I will admit I'm gonna miss having you around during the day to hang out with especially when the others are going away on their hunting cases. I mean it's good having another chick to talk to who isn't hunting either" Charlie said.

"I'm going to miss her too. I'll miss our talks and our girl time with my bestie during the day when I'm here" Ava said.

"Same here" Gwen said.

"Hey, what about me I thought I was your new bestie" Charlie replied being sarcastic although she was feeling a bit left out.

"You're my second new bestie, Gwen here is my first" Ava told her.

"Well, I'm gonna miss her the most, since we won't have our 'Just us time' together anymore when I'm not on case" Sam replied now placing is arm around her waist.

"Relax guys, I'm just going off to work not the army" Gwen said.

"We're just saying It won't be the same anymore with you at work during the mornings and afternoons" Sam told her.

"I get it, it won't be the same for me neither, but we got the evenings and weekends which reminds me, I need to ask you for a huge favor" Gwen replied to Sam.

"What is it?" Sam asked curiously.

"I need to borrow your car during the day when I go to work" Gwen said.

"What, borrow my car?" Sam asked her.

"Yeah, at least until I can get my own car. It's not that you use it too often anyway accept when we go out or you go on an errand, like getting groceries or whatever, you mainly just ride with Dean in that Impala" she told him.

"She's got a point there Sam" Adam added with a smirk.

"Besides, you can use the car once I get home from work, and we can do the grocery shopping or anything else on the weekends" Gwen added.

Sam still looked hesitant and reluctant to say yes, but he couldn't find a real reason to say no other than he's not used to anybody else but him driving his car, but Gwen did need it more than he did and she's right, he doesn't drive it that often unless he's either going out by himself or with Gwen. Even when driving up to Madame Bess's place to see Gwen in Minnesota, he normally took the train in Newton where Dean would drive him. Finally, after much thinking he turned to Gwen.

"Okay fine, you can use my car during but only to go to work and until you get your own car" Sam told her.

"Thanks a lot there" Gwen replied as she quickly hugged him happily.

"No problem" Sam said a bit conflicted as he hugged right back.

"Wow, letting your woman drive your car, that's just looking for trouble" Dean said jokingly.

Both Sam and Gwen stopped hugging and turned to him. "Shut up!" they both cried at the same time and Ava playfully nudged Dean on the shoulder.

"Anyway, congratulations once again working girl" Charlie said.

"Thanks" Gwen said as she smiled proud of the fact that she now has a job and is surrounded by people who make her feel like family whom she can share the good news with and give her the support she needs.

She truly does belong.
