Christa walked a step behind Ymir, managing to keep pace with her much taller girlfriend by sheer force of will. The lights of the city and the music from the bars still sung in her ears, giving her face a smile that wasn't always there. Even Ymir laughed with her head thrown back to the starless sky. It felt like forever since they got the chance to spend a night together like this. If Eren hadn't arranged the shift, they would only just now be wandering out of the coffee shop.
And really, Christa did love working with her girlfriend. They stole plenty of moments in the backroom late at night, but there was something to be said about slinky red dresses with sparkle gems and dancing that just couldn't be gotten in a New York coffee shop. Which got Christa thinking.
"Do you think we should check up on Eren and Jean? I really hope they didn't end up fighting after all. Levi would end up in such a mood…"
Ymir snorted back, the laughter still coloring her voice when she responded. "God, he's the worst when he's in a mood! If he wasn't low-key the best boss I've ever had, I'd be gone in one second flat!" She huffed, rolling her eyes as she turned back to meet Christa's gaze. In the streetlights, her gaze softened, leaving a sigh pulling from her lips. "But I guess if you want to check, it's not far out of the way. Might be fun to see if Eren really got his face punched in." With another laugh, she took a left at the street corner and led them both toward the mini-strip that housed the Green Bean.
The parking lot was washed in half golden-light and half shadows when the pair of girls approached. Since it was right after close, they planned to sneak in through the backdoor and harass the lovebird duo without getting caught by Levi. However, just at the edge of the small line of parking, Ymir pulled up short, yanking Christa back before she could take another step.
"Oh my god."
There, against the hood of a sleek red car, leaned Eren with Jean pressed between his legs and no space between. Even in the shadows, Ymir could see their lips moving together, hear the desperate, hungry noises filtering over the parking lot. Yep, she definitely hadn't been expecting that.
Her cheeks tinged pink, Christa clasped a hand over her mouth. And yet, neither of them could look away. "…I guess they worked it out? Like, really worked it out. I feel like we shouldn't intrude on this…"
"No kidding," Ymir snorted back, but her voice was hushed, clearly not wanting to disturb whatever scene they looked in on either. And yet, her eyes couldn't help but slide down with an almost incredulous air. "Like, where are Eren's hands? Seriously?" Because what she saw disappeared down Jean's pants without any consideration to where they were, pulling him even closer by the bare ass.
Christa responded with a solemn nod. "Do you think we should tell Levi that they're making out on the hood of his car?"
"It is a nice car. We could…"
"Ymir, let's go." Christa grabbed hold of her girlfriend's hand, pulling her away from the scene still unfolding. "I don't know why I even brought this up to you. Not a word to Levi. We're not sabotaging those poor boys' brand new romance."
Tugging her girlfriend into her arms, Ymir threw on a winning pout, the one reserved for her most devilish moods. "But yeeees. Christa, think of all the fun. And the car!"
Laughing, Christa couldn't help but concede. "I'll think about it." Which was more than good enough for either of them. They finished their walk home hand in hand, minds already concocting plans. And really, it was all Eren's fault for asking favors in the first place. Favors from Ymir and Christa came with interest—the kind best paid in blackmail. So, if they reached their shared flat and fell down into bed, laughing at those boys' expense, then it was only fair. Fair, because only another pair of lovers could understand what those two gained. Only lovers could know the cost to get there.
"I'm going to buy him Everclear," Ymir whispered against her girlfriend's lips, her laugh barely constrained. Christa darted up to steal the kiss before tapping her finger there in disdain.
"Alright, honey. Just remember not to kill him. Otherwise, how will he pay our debts?"
At that, Ymir couldn't hold back her laugh any longer. "Fair enough. Me and you babe," she murmured as she rolled over to stare at the ceiling that looked infinite in the dark. "We're gonna take it all. Just you wait and see…"
Twining their fingers together, Christa turned so she could stare up as well, taking in the vastness there. It was to that vastness that she offered her smile.
"Yes. And I'll hold you to it."
