A/N: Here's a new little story for my amusement as I've gotten the FNAF SB story bug. No guaranteed romances. For now I'm just having it as a friendship/slice of life story with some plot here and there. I'm not sure where it's going to go or if anyone is really going to care about this. It really is just for me and a couple of friends. There is guaranteed OOCness, but they're not affected by Afton anymore, so yeah.
Also this was made because there really isn't enough stories out there that have a male protagonist that doesn't use second P.O.V or whichever one it is that has it as you from your pov. Or doesn't use y/n. I have plenty that I like but I like just having a named character like you have with other fandoms, you know. Also the mc- Skylar Sharpe- is male and he does have a description:
Dark brown, almost black hair that falls around mid-back length with some streaks of a darker red in it. His eye color is bright green. And he's pale and slim and just about 5'3. He's not really weak, but not super strong either. He's fast and has a high endurance. Finally, when he's not wearing contacts, he wears small, mostly plain silver, thin rimmed rectangle glasses. They have little geometric shapes along the arms.
If you have questions let me know, I hope you enjoy and constructive criticism and reviews are always appreciated.
Disclaimer: I don't own any part of FNAF or it's characters. Though I'm thinking of playing some SB. Who knows. I only own Skylar Sharpe and a few other characters that aren't in the game.
Universe: About six years post game. No more Vanny: She escaped the mind control and lives far away never to return. No more Afton. No Ruin DLC. Animatronics are no longer affected by a virus. Monty did not decommission Bonnie. Bonnie and Foxy can be found at their attractions.
Summary:
25 year old introvert, Skylar Sharpe, is a new night guard at Freddy Fazbear's Mega Pizza Plex sometime after they finally reopen, five years after the last one burned down. It's up to Skylar to patrol the Plex at night, while his degree in programming and engineering has him taking care of any issues the animatronics might have during his shifts. He already knew from their programming that these animatronics were more sentient and sapient than most people really understood, and he was ready to treat them like anybody else.
He doesn't realize the effect this will have on his employment or how it's going to affect his life in general as a result.
And there are still a few issues when it comes to the Pizza Plex, but these focus more around dares and teenagers. Idiots who think they can handle a 'stupid robot or two' in hopes of nabbing something cool. Rude customers and co-workers. Then there were his own private issues that led to him aiming for this kind of job in the first place.
There might be a few other things, but they could be dealt with as they came. Skylar just wanted to do his job, befriend the animatronics he would be working with, and live the life he carved out for himself.
He's not too sure if it's a shame or not that it's a bit more exciting than he had thought it would be.
1. Beginning Anew
Skylar Sharpe looked up at the large building before him. He took a deep breath as he calmed his nerves. It was his first shift as the night security guard for the Pizza Plex and he was actually excited for it. He had always wanted to work here and had been devastated by the news of the Plex burning down almost six years ago when he was in university. However, news reached that they were rebuilding about a year later and that gave him hope that he still had a chance at working there. Reopening meant new positions that needed to be filled, right?
Unfortunately, they still hadn't reopened by the time he graduated with a programming and engineering degree the year before, and there weren't any openings that he could find. Also, there weren't really any places looking for a programmer at the time, so he settled on practicing by working on a web site development project. He also took on a part time job as a security guard, no experience required. He was able to use some of his engineering expertise there to gain experience. Then it turned out his employer had been doing some money laundering on the side and he was relieved he hadn't known anything when they finally got busted. He was able to get out without a felony on his- mostly- clean record.
It was around then that he learned Freddy Fazbear's Mega Pizza Plex had been opened for nearly six months and he found a security guard help wanted post. He applied and got shown around the Plex during open hours while the woman in charge- Catherine Winters- held her interview. He didn't get to really interact much with any of the band or the day care attendants. Or any of the animatronics, really other than fellow security bots and some of the other S.T.A.F.F bots.
He had gotten to witness a show while there, though, and he couldn't help but cheer and bop along like the rest of the people in the main atrium in a rare break from his painfully introverted nature, much to his possible employer's amusement. He couldn't even be too embarrassed about it because plenty of other adults- and teens even- had been doing the same. Thankfully Catherine had also been one of those adults.
As the tour continued, Catherine had continued asking her questions, even touching on the subject of the degrees that were in his file. He told her about his last gig and the web development project he had worked on, but that he didn't have as much experience in programming as he would have liked.
She had taken him to Parts and Service then and showed him some sample codes of the animatronics she had made as she was also the new head programmer. It was here that they confirmed he had enough experience and know how to isolate anomalies in the existing code and isolate and delete those same anomalies. He knew how to repair any damaged coding and with his engineering experience, he could safely and efficiently repair damaged parts in the animatronics. The test for that one had been on a damaged Little DJ Music Man that had actually fallen from a high vent in the back rooms. Skylar thought he was adorable and the little Music Man seemed to like him too, so that seemed good.
It was here that Catherine had explained that their new A.I was so advanced that it developed on its own as time went by. Which meant that while they had hard coding to ensure the safety and entertainment of the children, the animatronics were more like people than most probably expected. They each had their own thoughts, feelings, ideas, fears, quirks, and personalities. Basically they were human minds in animatronic bodies. And while Skylar had already suspected that, it was mind blowing to have it confirmed and be privy to part of that advancement.
It was only when they were sitting in Catherine's office filling out paperwork and discussing his possible movement into employee housing, that Skylar had realized that he had, in fact, been hired. Much to Catherine's amusement. The interview and hiring process had been finalized with the input of some of his personal information and filling out a form to move into employee housing that were on the premises.
She had explained that the housing actually meant a small apartment complex right next to the Pizza Plex that actually had an underground connection tunnel that exited and entered into a 'Personnel Only' area behind the level 1 security office. This was in case the 'night time protocol' was already activated when an employee's shift started. The protocol lasted from midnight until 6AM, which was an hour and a half before the Plex's opening time.
The housing option, she added, was mainly available for head departments of staff. This meant Catherine, who was not only in charge of the whole pizza Plex but also head of Programming. Sally Wales, who was head of Health and Recovery, in case of human accidents while they were open. Catherine had decided that while all the animatronics had first aid knowledge, it would still be a good idea to have a couple nurses on staff as a precaution. It was also a requirement in order to reopen.
Then there was George Daily, who was head of Day Shift Security. And Skylar, who would be head of Night Shift Security and on call for emergency repairs should they be needed and she either couldn't get there or was out on business. She added that there were a few day shift staff who focused on running some of the shops and departments in the mall. She had explained that currently, Skylar himself was the only graveyard shift employee since so many hadn't wanted to do the shift thanks to the rumors of the last shift before their reopening. Apparently George was thrilled to not have to do both day and night shift duties anymore.
He had also been more directly informed that as the only graveyard shift employee, that meant a full six hours of just him and animatronics. He assured her that the two hours of night shift that he would be doing with other people beforehand would be worse than the six hours with the animatronics. She laughed at that, muttering about introverts. He was relieved that it wasn't mocking but fond exasperation. She apparently knew her fair share of them.
That had all been about three days ago, giving plenty of time to get settled in and for the last of the paperwork to push through. George himself had arrived at his apartment the morning of his first shift with Skylar's new uniform.
It was a pair of black slacks with a white button up shirt and a navy blue jacket. He was also given a red band that would go around his bicep on either the shirt or jacket and had a white and gray shield emblazoned on it. According to George, the colors on his band meant that if any animatronics were having issues, Skylar was qualified to take care of it. The security badge with his name, picture, and clearance level was given to him next. He was surprised by the high level, but George said that it was a show of his cross department qualifications. He was given a flash light and a colorful watch that really stood out compared to the rest of his attire. George laughed explaining that it was a staff issued watch, which was rather different from the novelty watches that the children and their parents received.
Any emergency alerts would come across the watch, it had access to the cameras if he was patrolling, and it usually had a task list that would mostly be used to give him his objectives for the night and have reminders to actually take his breaks. Apparently they all had them but Catherine had been worried that Skylar would actually forget to take any breaks and thus would actually require the reminders. The watch also had an email feature that he could use to alert the other heads in case he was having issues. George had even playfully added that he could even converse with the animatronics over the watch if they registered his watch number.
Useful in case they got into an accident.
The last item given to him was a small, portable mechanics kit that would attach to his belt. It was light weight but durable. It was meant in case any emergency repairs needed to be made before the animatronics could get to Parts and Service. This wasn't a usual tool in a security personnel's arsenal, but his cross status as engineer made it necessary.
With a final goodbye, George had returned to work and left the new hire with his things. Fast forward to almost 10PM, when the Plex was set to close, and Skylar looked up at his new place of employment with nerves and excitement before he entered the building. He was finally where he had wanted to work. And he had no idea, just how exciting it would get.
A/N: Hope you enjoyed the story. Hopefully the next part will have more involving the others.
