When Grace was younger she always felt like her name was too old for her. It's not that she didn't like her name. She loved the way it sounded. It's just that the name "Grace" felt more like a grown woman wearing red lipstick in a black dress attending a fancy gala than a little girl who was in pigtails and slept with a ladybug pillow pet and played with barbies plus, wore clothing from Justice and jewelry from Claire's So, when she started school and teachers called out the name "Grace" on their roster. She'd correct them and say "I go by Gracie". Throughout, her whole elementary and middle school career she was known as "Gracie". The only people who were allowed to call her "Grace" were her mother when she was in trouble and Teddy occasionally but typically, he called her "Gracie" he'd also call her "Gracie Mae" just to tease her. As Grace entered her freshman year of high school Most girls who had went by nicknames throughout middle school like the Abigail's who went by "Abby" and the Isabella's who went by "Izzy" or "Bella" started going by their full names. Grace didn't. She was pretty much still "Gracie". The nickname "Gracie" started coming to a close when her mother passed away during her sophomore year of high year school was when her whole shattered into a billion pieces. It was when she refused to be called "Gracie" anymore. She felt more like an adult. She felt more like she fit into her name now. She was "Grace" all throughout college and never requested anybody to call her "Gracie" now. Teddy was the only person allowed call her "Gracie" nowadays. When she first became a detective people at the office would occasionally call her "Gracie" just to tease her. She didn't mind it. She would just ignore it. Finally, when she transferred to SVU. She was just "Muncy" now. She appreciated the fact that she could separate her work life from her personal life with her name. At work, she could be the hardball take no prisoners detective muncy but when she got home or went out she could be "Grace" a laid back girl who liked to have fun. She figured that she put the gracie nickname behind her and it'll never come back. Boy, was she wrong. The first time Joe calls her Gracie. She assumes it's a mistake and will be a one off thing. The second time he calls her gracie she rolls her eyes and laughs at him. The third time he calls her Gracie. She takes it in and enjoys the moment. She can only be called gracie by him.
