Cress tapped her foot in excitement, looking around the ballroom. It was the first time that she was at a ball in the Eastern Commonwealth and she couldn't wait.
The downside was that she didn't know many people there. Cinder and Kai had already come and spoken to her before they went off to talk to various dignitaries and Iko was off enjoying herself on the dance floor. The one person she wanted to see was nowhere to be found.
Her heart sank slightly as she looked around, trying to catch sight of him. He'd promised he'd see her here when Iko whisked her off to get ready a few hours in ago.
"Sorry I'm late." Cress jumped and turned to see Carswell standing before her. He held out a perfect pink rose to her. "You would not believe the difficulty I had finding this." He opened his mouth to continue but was interrupted by Cress standing on her tiptoes and kissing the corner of his mouth.
"I love it." She took the flower from his hand. "It's so pretty. Thank you."
Carswell grinned and held out his hand, gesturing to the dance floor. "Shall we?"
