AN: I am back... and I bring to you another Meredith and Lexie Grey story... This is just a standalone. It is NOT a sequal to In The Shadows. (Though I do have that, I just haven't been brave enough to post.)
It takes place around season 7 timeline ish, but it's not going to be 100 accurate to that timeline... Just use your imaginations with me. :) I bend things to make them fit into my reality.
This is a short story, just for fun. But I needed some Lexie/Mer content. So enjoy!
Lexie Grey slid down the wall outside of Seattle Grace Mercy West hospital. She didn't flinch as the rugged brick scratched her back on her way down. Nor did she care that where she landed was a wet cold puddle from a normal Seattle dreary rainy night.
She tilted her head back and looked up at the black starless skies. Cold wet rain pelted her forehead causing her to flinch.
If she could muster up a bolt of lightning to strike at that very moment and take her out, she would.
She ripped her stethoscope from around her neck and flung it against the building across the alley way. It made a satisfying sound as it scraped against the building.. Next she ripped her name badge from the pocket of her scrubs and threw it next. It's lightweight kept it from going as far and fell to the ground by her shoe.
She brought her knees up to her chest and wrapped her arms around her legs resting her forehead on top of her knees, as she willed herself to not cry.
"Breathe, Lexie." She scolded herself. "Get it together. Grey." She scolded herself into her knees. She hated when fear and anger mixed. It was never something she was able to let go of easily.
They had warned her in medical school that some days were going to be hard. Some days would take a toll on your mental well being. Some days would make you want to quit. They even had said some days you'd be so tired that your bones physically ached.
They did not prepare her for what it would be like to work at the very same hospital as her big long lost sister. They did not prepare her for what it would be like to work under that big sister's shadow and authority.
She was also not prepared for her own safety to be put on the line just to save a life, and the thing she was most unprepared for, was how very alone she'd end up feeling. How isolating it was to be in the shadows of greatness.
She lifted her head as she took in a shaky breath and looked down at her hands as she realized they were covered in blood. Her blood…..
"I didn't do it. They know I didn't do it. They don't believe me. I didn't do anything…Nobody will help me…" The man insisted as his hands reached out towards Lexie. "It wasn't my fault."
Meredith watched as his gigantic hand wrapped around Lexie's tiny wrist, halting her movement.
Lexie's own eyes went to his big bloody hands wrapped around her wrist. She placed her hand gently on top of his, patting it gently, with more kindness in her than Meredith felt at the moment. "I am here" She offered "I see you, and I hear you, let me help you. Please take your hand off of mine."
"Nobody believes me." His voice cracked as he removed his hand from her wrist. Lexie's calming demeanor seemed to be helping. He sat back on the bed for a moment. "Oh my god, what have I done?"
"Can you tell me what happened?" Lexie asked as she leaned forward to get a better look at the gash above his eye. The wound above the eye was going to need stitches, his nose was broken, blood seemed to be just pouring from it.
Meredith turned her attention back to the patient in front of her, offering the scared little girl a smile. "Don't worry, your daddy is going to be just fine." She smiled. "Car accidents are scary, aren't they?" She asked the child.
The girl nodded in agreement as Meredith put her stethoscope to the child's chest. "Okay nice big breath…."
"You're beautiful…Lily." Lexie's patient spoke, his voice changing becoming almost sinister. Catching Meredith's attention again.
"Nooo,he's back" The little girl frantically whispered to Meredith before she let out a cough before a gagging sound followed. Meredith had just seconds to react to get a bucket in front of the child.
"So beautiful." He reached out and ran his hand up and down Lexie's thigh inching his way up her scrubs. Causing Meredith's own stomach to turn. She watched his hands creeping up Lexie's thigh heading inward. She scanned her tray looking for something she could throw with one hand while keeping the bucket under the child.
If it made Lexie uncomfortable she didn't show any indication of it. Her hand dropped to his immediately stopping the movement. "Mr. Brandywine, you're at the hospital, there's been an accident, my name is Dr. Lexie Grey, I am not Lily."
"Tell her to call him, Tommy." The little whispered to Meredith in between retches. "He will only respond to Tommy."
"Dr. Grey." Meredith cleared her throat once she realized there was a moment for Lexie to get away from this patient. "Why don't you go see if we can get some extra hands in here, to help us get the Brandywine family feeling better." Something about this situation was making her uncomfortable and she wanted someone who could call for security and wanted her little sister as far away from this unstable man quickly. Something sinister was playing out in front of them and she did not like it. Nor did she want her sister anywhere near it.
"Mr. Brandywine, Thomas." Lexie reached out and placed a grounding hand on his. "You were in an accident, and you are safe." She repeated "You are at Seattle Grace Mercy West hospital. She told him. Acting as if she hadn't heard what Meredith had just instructed her to do.. Keeping her eyes locked solely onto Mr. Brandywine. "And I am here to help you."
This seemed to work. He sat back on the bed, his hand's leaving Lexie's thigh.
"I am sorry." His voice cracked "I am so sorry." He closed his eyes as a fat tear rolled down his cheek. "Lily?" He asked
"It's okay." Lexie insisted. "Your daughter is okay, she's right here. She's going to be alright." She motioned to the bed beside him.
"I am not Lily." The little girl whispered to Meredith. "I am Mia.. Lily is dead.." Her eyes were wide with fear, as she now gripped onto Meredith's arm.
"Dr. Grey" Meredith repeated "Would you mind going to get those extra hands?" She repeated louder this time as Mia let out a small cry and more vomit came quickly. Meredith held the bucket under the child as she rubbed her back. She watched as Lexie continued to talk to the patient not even so much as a glance in Meredith's direction to acknowledge she'd been heard.
"Dr. Grey, get up and go ask for extra hands immediately…" This time it was a very loud, not easy to miss command.
"It's okay" Lexie tried again. "Mr. Brandywine, we're going to help you."
"What have I done?" He cried neither him nor Lexie responding to Meredith's sharp command. It was like she wasn't even in the very same room.
"Oh my God what have I done? Lily." He let out a sob. He let out an audible gasp before slumping over on the bed.
"Mr. Brandywine?" Lexie jumped up in surprise. "Thomas… I need you to talk to me. Are you okay?" She placed her hands on his face trying to make eye contact with him.
"Run…" Mia cried out as she inched up the bed trying to make herself small, "She needs to run. Tell her to run.."
"Oh Lily. You naughty girl, I am going to have to punish you….." He spoke as he sat up. Sending chills down Meredith's spine.
"Dr. Lexie Grey." Meredith' snapped as little Mial flew towards Meredith wrapping her arms around her tightly. "Go get extra hands in here, now!."
"I will in a second, but I've…" Lexie began as Mr. Brandywine sat up quickly causing Lexie to jump back in surprise. "Mr. Brandywine…"
Meredith watched in horror as he lunged forward his hands going around Lexie's throat. They wrapped about them tightly as he stood lifting her.
Her feet leaving the ground, her eyes bulging as she tried to suck in some air, how quickly her skin color changed to a purple.
"He's going to kill her!" Mia screamed as she continued to climb up Meredith frantically.
Meredith stood with the little girl in her arms and ran out to the hallway passing her to April Kepner who happened to be the very person she saw.
"What…" April started to ask as a screaming child was thrust into unexpecting arms, but was quickly cut off by Meredith's sharp tone. "Get this kid out of here, and get security. Now! An unstable patient has Lexie, by her throat!"
April turned quickly as she flew down the hall, to the nearest phone hanging on the wall where she quickly punched in the line for security and began calling out to nurses and anyone around to help her find help immediately.
Meredith did a quick pivot as she flew back into that room. Lexie was clawing at the man's hands as he held her tight. Her face had turned a horrifying color of purple. "Get off of her!" The older Grey called out as she ran to them she grabbed at his arms as she tried to pull his arms away.
He kept his grip tight on Lexie as he swung trying to get away from Meredith.
"Let her go" Meredith commanded again as she pulled on his arms using all her strength digging her nails in trying to get him to release her.
The three struggled for what felt like forever to Meredith as medical trays toppled over, glass jars and screens falling to the ground and shattering medical equipment and glass everywhere. "Let her go." Meredith kept repeating but nothing she was doing seemed to even phase him.
She was so relieved when a team of security came rushing through one of them pulling her reluctantly away before three of them using the strength of all three of them to finally overpower him.
She watched in relief and horror as the crazy patient's grip released on her sister as he threw her away from himself to try and ward off security.
She watched as Lexie became airborne for a moment looking like a limp rag doll as she crashed to the floor beneath her, landing on a broken glass jars that held sterile swabs just moments before.
A fourth security guard had now entered the room and quickly grabbed Lexie from the ground and got her to her feet before escorting her out of the room quickly. He then turned back and crossed the path of the room to the corner Meredith was in behind the commotion of the struggling men and security.
"We need to sedate him" Meredith called to the security guards as she mentally shook off what just happened and stepped back into her role as a doctor. She was also extremely grateful when a team of other nurses and residents came in to help as well.
The quicker she could get this guy sedated and sent off to the psych floor, the quicker she could go find Lexie.
"Go away, Meredith." Lexie said with a huge sigh when she felt a looming presence standing over her without looking up. She didn't need to look to know who was standing next to her.
Meredith ran her tongue over her teeth before setting her jaw. "Stand up, and let me see your hands."
"I said, go away." Lexie repeated.
"And I said stand up and let me see your damn hands." Meredith snapped back "Now, Lexie. I am not messing around."
Lexie heaved another sigh and pushed herself up from the ground extending her hands out to Meredith. "See, they're fine." She went to pull them away but Meredith's reflexes were faster and she captured her wrists in her own hands pulling them close for a better examination.
Meredith turned them over gently, taking them in. Shards of glass, dried blood and still fresh blood ran down her palms. Thankfully for the most part they all looked superficial and would heal nicely once cleaned and bandaged. There was one gash that looked like it would require some attention, mostly likely a liquid stitch would fix it.
"We're going to go back in, you're going to get your hands cleaned up, and you're going home." She instructed as she pulled a big bandage from her pocket and ripped it out of its packaging before placing it on the open wound that was still bleeding.
Lexie scoffed "No…No I am not." The last thing she needed was her big sister ordering her around right now.
Meredith narrowed her eyes "I am serious, I am sending you home, Dr. Grey."
"You can't do that." Lexie glared at her as she pulled her hands away from the older Grey.
"You were put on my services tonight" She cleared her throat "And I have talked to the chief, he is fully backing my decision."
"Of course he is. Because Meredith Grey is always right.. Fantastic" Lexie heaved a sigh as she bent down and picked up her name badge while Meredith retrieved her thrown stethoscope.
She yanked it roughly from her sister's hands when she saw what she was doing. "Don't touch my things, don't try to help leave me alone. Can you do that?"
Meredith exhaled as she tried to calm herself down before speaking. "Come on, Lexie." anger disappearing from her tone. "Don't be mad at me. You're the one that got in over their head. Did not ask for help, and did not listen when you were clearly directed several times to go get help."
Lexie's own jaw dropped "I had it handled…Meredith!"
"Sure you did…." Meredith rolled her eyes as the images replayed in her head, making her anger return. "You could have been killed!" Meredith yelled not caring if anyone were to hear them. "You didn't listen! And you can't tell me you didn't know something was off, Lexie. We both knew it!" She pointed out "I told you several times to get up, and go get extra hands! You knew what I was asking of you."
"If you were that damn worried about it, you could have made Mia hold her own puke bucket and gone and got the extra hands." Lexie added in a mocking voice tilting her head to the side, her eyes narrowed at Meredith almost daring her to fight her on it.
The two stood in a silent stare down for a moment. Lexie's nostrils flared with anger, while Meredith's jaw set.
Meredith found herself breaking first as she took another calming breath before reaching out and placing her hand gently on Lexie's shoulder only to have her yank away from her touch. So she let her hand fall to her side as she kept her voice low and gentle."Not everything can be fixed with kind words and a sweet smile. You have to know when to have help, Lex."
Lexie tossed her head back and laughed at the irony of the statement her big sister just uttered. The queen of independence and doing things her own way. "I have to know, when to have help?" She sputtered out. "Pot, Kettle, Black….YOU!" She poked Meredith not too gently causing the older Grey to wince slightly as the sharp boney finger pressed into the flesh.
"Yes, I hear the irony of my statement." Meredith admitted as she reached for Lexie's finger when she went to poke her for a second time. She caught it and held it in her hand for a brief moment offering a small squeeze before releasing it. "But…"
"But nothing… I had it handled… I was fine, he was calm and I was helping him!" She defended "He's a living breathing person..and he needed medical attention and compassion.. That's my jo…"
"You in fact did NOT have it handled. Your bruised neck and bleeding hands tell me otherwise!" Meredith shot back, stopping her mid sentence.. "You have to listen to me when I warn you about things. I have more life experience than you…Let me share my wisdom with you. SO you don't make the same mistakes I have!"
Lexie threw up her hands. "By a handful of years!" She paused for a second before motioning to herself. "I. AM. NOT. YOU. Meredith…and I am never going to be. Trust me this world is only big enough for one Meredith Grey…"
Meredith dropped her hands to her side again and took a deep breath trying to not show any hurt. " I don't know what your problem is tonight, or where this attitude is coming from, but I think you should go inside, get your hands cleaned up by Kepner, and go home. Dr. Grey. Get some rest, you're clearly in need of a nap." She crossed her arms over her chest
Lexie looked down at her shoes before sighing "Yes, ma'am, Dr Grey." She retorted with a salute as she headed back into the hospital without another word.
Meredith watched her go, part of her wanted to run after her. To pull her into a hug. To ask if she was okay. To go home with her and put on some cheesy movie and spend the rest of the night safely tucked away in their home where the world couldn't touch them.
But when she closed her eyes she saw his hands around her little sister's neck, the way he lifted her from the ground. Her legs dangling. Her brown eyes wide, the sound she made gasping for air. The way she fell to the ground like a rag doll, landing on all the broken shards of glass.
Those images fueled Meredith's anger. This prevented her from running after her. From asking if she was okay.
Had she just listened to Meredith in the first place she would have been safe.
What made Meredith even angrier was the fact that she knew she wasn't acting from a supervisor guiding teaching position. She was reacting from something deeper. She was acting from an over protective big sister stance.
Now that she'd found and embraced her role as a big sister, how was she ever going to step into other roles in her relationship with Lexie. How could they both function at this hospital together?
"The others are going to be jealous." April offered a tired smile to Meredith as the two of them headed for their lockers to change and go home. "They're going to be sad they didn't cover this night in the pit…It was crazy.. Lots of learning, lots of stories to tell."
"Yeah," Meredith agreed tiredly, "Eventful." The night went nothing like what Meredith pictured when Lexie and April had taken on over nighter with her on Pit duty. She actually pictured the three of them having some fun together. Maybe even having a low key kind of night.
Now she wished Cristina had been there instead.. Lexie was Cristina's intern; she could have made the call and maybe her sister wouldn't be so mad at her.
"What happened to that man?" April asked as the two of them parted and went to their lockers.
"Twenty four hour mandatory psych ward hold, and running an investigation on him and what happened to Lily…"
"And the little girl?"
"They managed to get a hold of her grandmother, She came and got her. I heard the girl's mom died of cancer right after the birth of their second daughter, Lily.." She explained "And then Lily died about six months ago, drowned in a pool. The grandmother says her son in law hasn't been the same since, and thinks he's suffering from a sort of reality break." Meredith offered
"However I reported to social services what Mia said to me…Something is very off with that man.. Very dark…" She yawned "I can't explain it, April, but he made me uncomfortable, before he even attacked Lexie. I felt pure evil radiating off of him."
"That must have been terrifying for you" She commented "I checked Lexie over, and gave her that liquid stitched the gash on her hand, it wasn't too deep, she was okay. She really wasn't injured too badly." She offered hoping to help calm the older sister's nerves.
"Thank you." Meredith nodded as she pulled her bag out of her locker and began searching for her keys so they could get the heck out of there, however she came up empty; her keys were not in her purse or in her coat pocket. Realization then dawned on her and she groaned loudly. "No..She didn't…She wouldn't…." She groaned but maybe she would, because honestly if the situation was reversed she may have done the same thing out of anger and annoyance.
April grabbed her purse from her locker and raised her eyebrow. "Everything okay?"
"Lexie, took my car." Meredith let out a tired groan. She just wanted to go home, check on her sister and go to bed. Why was she making this so much harder.. "Is this what having little sisters is like, to be worried for them and at the same time annoyed with them?"
April nodded, "Yeah, actually…you nailed it on the head." She nodded as she yawned. "Are we calling a cab? I am tired, I want to go home."
"On Lexie's dime. That girl will be paying us back for this ride." Meredith grumbled, but just before she could pull out her phone, Derek's head popped into the locker room. "Good Morning ladies." He greeted them brightly with a smile holding a bag of fresh donuts. "Would you ladies like a ride home, and a midnight snack?"
"What are you doing here?" Meredith asked with a smile.
"I was paged a few hours ago, came in, got my emergency situated, heard rumblings about some action in the pit tonight." He explained "I decided to go check on you three and ran into my very fuming sister in law, who was trying to call a cab to go home."
He shrugged "To avoid more bloodshed, I told her to take your car, and I would hang around and wait for you two to get off, and escort you home myself, and she had no issues with this."
He smiled, flashing his white teeth. "Neither did I, for purely selfish reasons of course, Fifteen extra minutes with my wife is always a bonus.."
Meredith held up her finger "Brilliant plan…"
"And she didn't take your keys out of spite," April offered, trying to point out the silver lining.
Causing Meredith to groan "I am new to the whole sister thing, be kind."
April laughed "For what it's worth, I would have found it funny if she took your keys out of annoyance… I mean that's pretty tame compared to what my sister's and I have done to each other over the years.."
Kepner took a donut Derek offered to her as they headed for the door. "I once took all my sister's panties and strung them together and hung them as a flag out in our horse arena…On a day I knew there would be some boys from school over for riding lessons.." Her smile grew bigger. "My sisters never stole my allowance again.."
"Don't give Lexie any ideas." Meredith requested as they headed for the door. "She's really pissed off at me, I don't need to find my panties out in public….again."
"Oh the stories I could tell." April grinned. "But I shall keep them to myself" She said quickly when Meredith shot her a side eye.
"I froze all of Amelia's Barbie dolls once." Derek added "She was like four or five, she kept sticking them in my bed, why I have no idea." He added "So I made them one big ice block…" He then sighed "But she actually thought it was awesome…She enjoyed chopping up the ice to rescue them."
"Of course she did," Meredith laughed.
Lexie was rinsing out her cereal bowl, when the back door opened and April, Meredith and Derek spilled in the back door.
"Good Morning, Sunshine." Derek greeted her. "I have donuts.."
"How are you feeling? How's your hand, liquid stitch still holding?" April asked as she dumped her purse on the kitchen table and went around to the fridge to grab a water bottle.
"Why are you still up?" Meredith questioned as she scanned her sister over. Lexie had changed into black sweats and a vee-neck tee, her long dark hair tied back in a messy bun really exposing the girl's neck with the dark blacks and purples of broken vessels. A colorful dark angry reminder of what had taken place just a few hours earlier.
Lexie placed the cereal bowl into the dishwasher and brought the door up with her foot, before hip checking it closed. She grabbed her steaming cup of tea from the table and held the handle awkwardly with her left, which hurt less then her right. She headed towards the stairs but stopped as she turned around and used her free hand to point at Derek. "Good morning to you, and thank you." She added for going to get April and Meredith, so she was able to go home easier. The down sides of carpooling, when one gets sent home early.
"Of course," He grinned. "Donut? I have a chocolate with sprinkles calling your name."
"Thanks, but no thank you, I just ate the last of the fruit loops." She offered him a small smile before turning to April "My hands are sore, my body hurts,my mind can't shut down, but you did a beautiful job cleaning me up and doctoring my hands. Thank you." She nodded
She glanced at Meredith for a brief moment before turning as she began to head up the stairs, "And yes, I am still up, why don't you jot it down in your book of how I disobeyed you, again." She glanced back over her shoulder. "I didn't take my nap…"
"Lexie, that's not fair…." Meredith replied heading to the bottom of the stairs "Come back and talk to me."
"Nope, I need my nap now." Lexie called back before completely disappearing up the stairs.
"She totally would have taken my keys to spite me." Meredith mumbled to Derek and April as she headed to the fridge to grab a beer. Yes it was six am, she didn't care she'd been awake all night and she wasn't ready to sleep.
"I didn't have her sent home, as a disciplinary action." the older Grey sighed "I had her sent home, to recover. What she went through was traumatic." For both of them honestly.
"Does she know that?" Derek asked "Did you explain that to her?"
Meredith's shoulders slumped forward a little. As she slid onto a stool. "No, I was too mad at her." She admitted "I am still so mad at her…" She rubbed her forehead "But not as a doctor." She admitted. "I am mad at her as a sister. She heard me..and she blatantly ignored me…Stubborn Grey genes."
"It's a hard ball to juggle," Derek admitted. "I know it personally, having my wife, and my sister in-law work under me at times is hard. I love working with you both" He added quickly to not her feelings. "Just lines get blurred when there is that connection."
"Yeah." Meredith agreed with a sigh.
"She'll come around, it's Lexie." April offered "She doesn't stay mad long. It's not in her nature."
"One can only hope, I am not used to her being mad at me." Meredith admitted "Annoyed yes, but never mad enough that she won't stay and talk to me, when I ask her to."
"Sister's fight." Derek rubbed her back. "She's still here, she came home ... .To your home, where she lives with you…" He pointed out "She's just angry."
Meredith nodded what he was saying was all true, but as an abandoned child, she clearly had some abandonment issues. It's why for the longest time she didn't let people in. It wouldn't hurt if they left.
"I promise, this is normal" April tried "Derek and I each have a lot of sisters, we know of what we say." She yawned as she headed for the stairs."It's going to be okay, I promise… and with that I bid you a goodnight."
"Goodnight, April" Meredith called after her as she sipped her beer. "When are you heading back to the hospital?" She asked Derek.
"Couple of hours." He glanced at his watch. "Enough time for us to finish watching that movie we started the other night, if you aren't planning on going right to bed."
Meredith raised her beer up "Best idea, I've heard all day." She agreed with a smile. "It's going to be awhile before I am ready to sleep, besides Alex and Jackson will be up moving around, I won't fall asleep until they're gone anyways."
Lexie entered the kitchen a few hours later, unable to ever fall asleep. She decided to make another mug of tea and a light snack. Before heading out for a run. She wasn't due back to the hospital until the following morning. Now she was at the point she may as well keep herself up until that evening and hopefully go to bed early that evening and sleep all night.
"Did you get any sleep, at all?" Meredith asked from the table where she sat reading a paper nursing a fresh cup of coffee and sandwich with some chips in front of her. Clearly Meredith was having the same issue as Lexie.
"Are you like everywhere?" Lexie asked "All of the time?" She knew she was being unfair. Meredith was just concerned. Several months ago that would have made her heart swell, to have Meredith's attention. Her love. However in the last few days she'd been compared to Meredith more times then she could count… Not to mention Meredith happened to always have opinions on what she saw Lexie doing. Deep down she knew it came from a place of love with her sister. She was trying to help Lexie succeed. She genuinely cared.
Meredith shrugged "I suppose I am, considering we both live and work together…"
Lexie couldn't argue that so she took a deep breath and headed to the fridge.
"Want half of my sandwich?" Meredith offered, "I made it, but I am not overly hungry."
Lexie exhaled "No, Meredith, I don't want half of you sandwich. I can make my own."
"Fair enough." She held up her hands "I was just offering. I am sorry."
"I don't want your leftovers." Lexie turned around and started picking at the bandages on her hand. "I don't need your leftovers."
Meredith's eyes went back down to the paper. "Noted."
Lexie inwardly groaned as she turned back to the fridge. She didn't want to fight with Meredith.
"I didn't have you sent home as a disciplinary action." Meredith said quietly. "You're not in trouble with anyone at the hospital."
"Other than you?" Lexie asked, slamming the fridge as she turned around, narrowing her eyes at her sister. "Because we both know I am in trouble with you."
Meredith crossed her arms over her chest and narrowed her own eyes at her sister. Two could play this way. "I am pissed at you." She admitted. "Your actions tonight were incredibly stupid and reckless, and I do expect a lot better from you.."
"Oh" Lexie scoffed. "So I am stupid now, thanks Mer." She mumbled as she opened the freezer and pulled out a tub of ice cream.
Meredith rolled her eyes so hard she worried if she could sprain them. "I didn't say you were stupid, I would never say you were stupid. Because you have one of the most brilliant minds I've ever come across. Calling you stupid would be lying, and I try to not lie."
"Glad you have morale compass" Lexie mumbled pulling out a spoon from the drawer and ripping the lid off the cartoon off disposing it on the counter before shoveling out a large scoop of some chocolatey ice cream and shoving it in her mouth.
"You're not stupid." Meredith repeated "Your actions were questionable, and your attitude is less than desirable right now." She picked up her mug and took a sip of her coffee. "I am angry with you, and maybe now isn't the time we talk this out." She agreed as she stood with her plate and mug. She headed towards the living room.
"Clearly you're also mad at me." She acknowledged. "So when you've cooled off and you're ready to be a grownup, come find me. I'd love to talk this out with you." She offered "and as you just said a few seconds ago, I am everywhere. I'll be easy for you to find."
Lexie gave her a thumbs up sign and eye roll as she bit her tongue to refrain from remarking on the fact that Meredith had just called her a child.
"And Lexie.." Meredith turned around in the doorway for a moment. "I am really glad you're okay." she added before disappearing completely out of sight.
Lexie dropped her spoon into her tub of ice-cream with a sigh now feeling guilty for running her sister off. Though it wasn't the first time she'd made Meredith flee a room. Probably wouldn't be the last time either.
