The existence of space is one of many different interpretations.
For some, it may represent a void that never seems to end. A sea of black that goes on forever while accompanied by the existence of stars and planets as it continues to expand. For others, it is something that both entices and fascinates. The concept of venturing out into the great unknown to see what may lie ahead, to see something that they have never seen before.
For Rosalina, it represents something so much more. As she grew up in this kind of environment as she looked after the lumas. A place where she felt safe despite the vast empties that it held. A place where stars and planets were not just a thing to look at, but rather something that reminded her of how vast life was.
Yet that was not the case now, as massive cannons from Bowser's ships continued to blast the outer shield of her observatory while Lumas continued to panic around her. The Koopa king doing everything in his power to wear down their spacecraft in hopes of draining their source of power stars. A feat that he was achieving greatly after hunting them down for several weeks.
It wasn't as if she could hide from them for long either, as Bowser had his forces scattered throughout the galaxy. Keeping tabs on their whereabouts with the help of Bowser Junior or the Koopalings, who had their own ships and armies under their command. Attacking her and her ship with everything they got as they tried to wear them down.
The lumas once again cried out in despair as another hit struck the bottom of the Observatory, and while the space princess wanted to comfort them their worries were not completely unfounded. As she could feel the strength of their home starting to weaken from the constant bombardment, stray power stars leaving their spacecraft every time another cannon hit. The lumas took shelter beside her and some of the Toad Brigade, who joined her ship to find more stars and travel the universe alongside her. The Mushroom Kingdom residents gathered numerous blocks and power-ups that they brought aboard and securely tied them down to the deck before making their way back to her in a state of panic.
"The void is inevitable," a bright blue luma suddenly giggled in front of them as it twirled around in glee at their demise, "for the brightest light casts the darkest shadow."
...
Well, most of the lumas feared the scenario they were in.
But Rosalina had no time to reprimand Lumalee's response as another shot from Bowser struck the side of the ship once more. Shaking the spacecraft violently and making the lumas shake in terror as they desperately continued to make their escape. With the Apricot colored one jumping into her arms as she reinforced the barrier around their spacecraft.
"Rosalina," A dark-colored luma named Polari called out to her in the middle of the chaos, "something is showing up towards our left."
Rosalina's eyes widened when she turned her gaze toward the direction her advisor had pointed out, a swirling vortex of numerous colors that stood out in the sea of black that was space. The several bolts of colorful lightning made her grow nervous despite traveling through the cosmos for so many years, as she already knew what the obstruction in their path was.
A wormhole.
In all her years of traveling through space, she only got glimpses of these from her telescope or saw them on the map. Making it a point to never stray near one of these no matter the cost and treating them with the same amount of awareness as one would a black hole, for she did not know where they would take her or whoever strayed too close to its pull.
She nodded in understanding as she lifted the wand in her hand towards the right, shifting the course of the observatory towards the right to get out of the path of the wormhole. Feeling the strain of the ship and her arms as she used more power for this escape.
Yet another massive blast from Bower's ship halted the movement of their home for a split second, enough so that the wormhole's massive gravity started to pull them towards it. The impact shook the foundations of the spacecraft greatly as she tried to keep things stable with despair.
"Polari, we need more power!" Rosalina cried out to her advisor.
"We can't! We are running low on stars as is! To do so will put stress on the ship!"
Rosalina was always calm and collected, even when it came to the most stressful situations. But this one made her bite her bottom lip in worry as her eyes shifted between Bower's approaching ships and the wormhole that was ready to swallow them whole. Taking a final glance at the two obstacles before finally making a decision, even if she didn't like it.
"Divert all power to the shields for now. I can only hope wherever this takes us has more power stars for us to use."
Polari looked at Rosalina in massive surprise, the answer being a rather risky one even if they weren't being cornered by an army. Looking at the space princess in concern as it raised a nonexistent eyebrow at the new order.
"Are you sure that is a wise decision?"
...
"...I don't know," Rosalina admitted with a frown while not looking Polari in the eye.
The dark-colored luma looked at the space princess closely before nodding in acceptance after another blast from Bowser shook the Observatory. Heading towards the engine room in a hurry to stop all motion and move their power to the shields as Rosalina turned towards the other terrified lumas.
"Darlings, please hold on tight."
The massive crowd of star-like creatures quickly huddled towards their mother with terrified expressions and fearful eyes. The small apricot-colored one held onto Rosalina's arm tightly as it glanced between the princess and the wormhole.
"Finally... Mercy." Lumalee sighed in relief as it lay on the ground with a closed-eyed expression and a clear content displayed on its face.
Rosalina could already feel the shift in power as she held up her wand and reinforced the barrier surrounding them, her heart full of worry and sorrow that she couldn't comfort any of the lumas that were huddled near her. Preparing herself for wherever she, the lumas, and the toads would end up as she closed her eyes the moment the Observatory finally entered the wormhole. Bowser's laughter seemed to echo behind her as they came near before they finally disappeared into the wormhole in a blip.
The rules for Rosalina will be made as they go the story goes on, but I will try to include the moves and ideas seen so far in every game she starred in. Yes, even Smash.
