A Human Among Dalmatians: By LukasLazzyy
Chapter 1: The Surprise
As I started my walk home from school, I reflected on the day's events filled with pointless lectures, unnesserary drama and mediocre school lunches, that was pretty much my middle school life in a nutshell. Hi, my name is Lukas Hart, there's nothing special about me, I'm just a regular seventeen year old teenager who enjoys playing video games, hanging out with friends and playing sports. I usually act very energetic, but today wasn't the best for me. I felt frustrated with how my day at school went, but at the same time, I was glad because today was Friday and school was out for the summer, and none of my friends and family members had any upcoming plans, meaning I had the whole summer to myself, which is always a huge win in my books.
I was so caught up in my thoughts, I didn't even notice that I had reached my house. Letting out a frustrated sigh, I opened the front gate and approached the front door, all the while wondering to myself what video game I was going to play.
The moment I entered my house and dropped my backpack near the door, I saw my mom, she was sitting at the dining room table with bits of paper spread out in front of her, but they didn't seem important to her as she held a particular bit of paper in her hands that looked like an envelope. As the curious person I was, I casually approached my mom.
"What's that, Mom?" I asked.
My mom looked at me with a big smile. "Oh hey Lukas, how was school?"
"Eh, it could've been better." I replied, shurgging my shoulders.
"Well this letter just came for you in the mail." My mom explained, handing to me the envelope that she was holding.
I was rather confused, who whould be sending me a letter? Especially in a time of digital communication. But I was even more confused when I read the sender's name.
"Dodie Smith"
I had never heard of that person before, so why would they be sending me a letter when I don't even know who they were? Curious, I decided to ask my mom for an explanation.
"Mom, who is Dodie Smith?" I asked, making it clear that I was unfamilar with the name.
My mom's smile grew wider as she explained. "She's one of my close friends, I've been writing to her about you and she said she had a special surprise for you."
A special surprise? What could that be about? Wanting to learn more information, I proceeded to rip open the evelope, but as I opened it, I looked inside to see something rather peculiar next to the letter inside. I pulled it out and examined it closely, it was some sort of device that resembled a hearing aid. Placing the strange device on the table, I pulled out the letter inside as I cleared my thorat and read the letter out loud;
Dear Lukas
You probably don't know me, but I'm close good friends with your mom. She has been telling me so much about you, including the fact that you have a small obsession with dogs, which gave me a brilliant idea. If you don't have any plans, I am offering you your very own trip to London for a special surprise I have in store for you. I'm not forcing you and you can refuse this offer if you want, but I really think that this is a trip that you don't want to miss out on. I'm sure you're confused on the device I also sent, it is very crucial, simpily put it in your ear and press the button on the side, but only when you get to London.
The address is 101 Dalmatian Street, hope you can make it.
Sincerely
Dodie Smith
When I finished reading the letter, I was at a loss for words. Me? Visiting London? I've never left the country before let alone been on an airplane before. This was truly an unexpected start to my weekend.
"So, what do you think?" My mom asked.
"I.. I don't even know what to say." I stuttered as a reply. "Visiting London on my own? Do you think I can handle it, Mom?"
"Of course." She replied. "I mean, you're almost eighteen years old, you're more than capable."
"Yeah, I guess you're right." I replied as I pondered over if I should actually accept this offer.
A mixture of apprehension and intrigue coursed through my veins. London held a mystique I had only encountered in movies and books, and the idea of being part of a surprise orchestrated by this Dodie person was undeniably thrilling. The weight of my terrible day at school slowly lifted as a spark of hope ignited within me.
"Should I go, Mom?" I asked hesitantly, seeking her guidance.
She smiled warmly, her voice gentle yet encouraging. "Lukas, life is full of surprises, and sometimes the most extraordinary experiences come when we least expect them. If you're willing to take a leap of faith, I think this could be an opportunity to discover something incredible about yourself and the world around you."
Her words resonated deep within me, and I made up my mind. With newfound determination, I slipped the earpiece device into my pocket, ready to embark on an adventure that promised to transcend the monotony of my everyday life.
"Alright, Mom," I said, a smile tugging at the corners of my lips. "I'm going to London. I want to find out what Dodie has in store for me."
My mom then brought me in for an embrace, as her way of saying goodbye. "Good luck, Lukas." She said proudly. "I'm gonna miss you, I hope your trip goes well."
"I hope so too." I responded, returning the embrace.
