Disclaimer: I have no clue if I am posting this anywhere but just in case I am, here's some disclaimer shit. This is a story that I have had knocking around in my head for the better part of 4 years now and I have now finally seriously started to write it down. It will most likely be a mess but I don't really care, it would be nice just to finally get some stuff written down as I consider writing a hobby of mine and I think this'll be pretty fun to write. This is a multi crossover fanfiction consisting of many different universes that most likely don't belong together. That won't come into play for a while and Mass Effect will be the main universe to start with so that is why it is classified under here. If you like Mass Effect but do not like the idea of a crossover in the future, this is not the story for you.. I wanted to do this in an effort to expand upon these established characters and relationships while also adding some new ones in. I am not an expert in all of these universe's lore or material so I may get some stuff wrong or misrepresent something, but I will try my best and do research on things I am not sure of. This will include universe's that allow choices to be made within their own worlds, which means headcanon will be in effect for those. The main character is a self inset, I know nothing of the fanfiction community but I can imagine that this is not a popular thing to do, well this is my story and I want to write it the way I want so that's just the way it is going to be. Don't get me wrong, the story will mainly consist of the established characters, but I also want to tell the story of my own character and what happens to him and all that junk. I'll probably completely end up contradicting myself but whatever. There's only really one rule I have with a self insert and that is no romance with any of the characters, there might be jokes here and there or mentions but never ever fully writing this because that is just completely sad to write a character heavily based on myself falling in love with a fictional character. Romances between characters are completely allowed if appropriate and makes sense. I believe that's all I wanted to say so let's get started
-Chapter 1-
Stillness and Death
The night was still. The only noise to be heard was the constant, thrumming flow of a fan in the corner of the room. In the opposite corner lay a man, a man who is tired but can't fall asleep. His name is Jared and is quite angry at the fact that he is still awake, knowing he has to get up early. He held his eyes closed and slowed his breathing, attempting to slip into the rhythm of sleep; however, he knows this does not work. In fact, this feigning attempt at sleep was requiring more effort than simply just lying there, but he felt that if he tried tricking his body, maybe, just maybe, it would believe him and let him sleep. After several, agonizing minutes of this, Jared opened his eyes, exhaled in frustrations and quickly turned to look at his phone. The bright screen caused Jared to shield his eyes and the room around him to quickly light up, the time was 3:32 AM. Dropping his phone back on the bedside table, Jared quickly turned and laid on his side, hoping getting into a sleeping posture would help, it didn't.
Tomorrow was an important day, it was the last day of work he would have to do in his Junior year of college, and it had been a very difficult year. The first semester had gone well, but the second was hit or miss, and the final he had tomorrow was in a class he sorely needed a decent grade in. Like several other classes before, this final would make or break him, and the fact that he was not getting any sleep was just serving to make him more anxious. Jared had been trying his absolute hardest these two semesters but sometimes even that was not enough and he would be left in a situation like now, everything hanging on one single grade. When Jared got to thinking about grades, school, things of that nature, his mind immediately migrated to one thing: his dream. Everything he was doing now was all in an effort to reach the dream, and what he was going through was nothing more than a small stepping stone on a much larger path to the realization of it. Thinking of this always helped him steel his resolve, or, at least, he convinced himself it did. As these thoughts floated about his mind, a familiar visual slowly started to take form within.
Jared could sense ground form under his feet as he slowly felt himself stand up. He felt the cold, hard asphalt on his feet and snow in between his toes, which sent a chill running up his spine. He slowly looked up to see himself in a snowy forest, trees surrounding him from each side; they were dead, their branches bare and devoid of life, the snow being the only thing they held on them. He looked up to see a sky that was covered with clouds, with small white flakes falling from them. Jared felt the snow hit his face, as it quickly melted from the body heat and became water that rolled down his body. Ahead, he saw the path that he was standing on, blanketed fully by the snow. Looking closer however, he saw that there were faint foot prints, heading down the seemingly endless path. Jared exhaled, creating a small, misty cloud as his breath hit the frigid air, he lifted his leg out of the snow and put it forward, following the footprints in front of him. As he trudged forward through the harsh environment, the path seemed to stretch further and further. The environment repeated as he went forward, the same trees flanking him on each side. The snow, however, began to come down heavier with each step he took, making it harder to see the footprints on the path. Eventually, a white ocean covered his vision as the snow was firing down on him, even though he was no longer able to see the footprints, or even in front of him for that matter, he kept going. Jared felt his skin slowly become warmer, as his fingers and toes began to burn, his calves were on fire from the exertion each step took. Jared raised his right leg to take another step, but his foot refused to come down, causing him to fall into the snow on the path. He tried to move his arms to help him recover but they also refused, his body was acting in defiance, even though Jared wanted to continue, his body knew he could not. He laid on the path for a long period of time, feeling the tidal wave of snow wash over him and cover his body. It became harder to breathe, each breath burning his chest and lungs. Jared desperately tried to dig out, attempting to find the gray sky once more, his arms still refused to move. He tried to scream for help, but the lack of oxygen barely allowed for breathing, let alone screaming. Jared felt less and less of his own body as time went on, as if he could only observe and not directly control what he did. Eventually, he felt only his face, as his eyelids drooped down, he felt calm, as if this was how it was meant to be and there was nothing he could do to stop it.
