A Love Like Ours
Disclaimer: I do not own the characters, just the story.
A/N: LoVe shipper… I went on a Veronica Mars binge, and fell in love with Logan/Veronica ship… I don't know just something about them… this is my second story on here… an alternate of Season 2. Meg isn't pregnant and she doesn't die. I like the fact that Veronica had a girl friend she depended on since Lily.
Summary: Logan and Veronica broke up, but Veronica has a secret. Will she become more of an outcast, or will Logan be able to save her?
Chapter Three – We Used To Be Us
There was a knock on the bathroom door. She sighed heavily pulling herself up from the toilet.
"You okay in there?" he asked.
"Yeah, I-I'm fine," she said. She exhaled wishing she wasn't there. She had gone to see Duncan, and spent the past 30 mins in the bathroom.
"What is she doing in there?" she heard Logan ask.
"I don't know. We were eating a burger, and mid bite she ran in here 30 minutes ago," she heard Duncan tell him.
"I'll be right out," Veronica said. She hadn't been able to keep meat down lately. Not red meat anyways. It just seemed to have been coming out at least once a day. She lifted her shirt and closed her eyes seeing the little growing bump. She was trapped, and she needed to get out of there.
"If she stays in there any longer, you'd think she was pregnant," Dick said.
Veronica groaned. Logan's lackeys were here too.
She heard Logan scoff, "Yeah right. As if Duncan here is THAT dumb."
"Yeah, I'm sure he always remembered to suit up," Dick said.
"Guys shut up," Duncan said
Dick chuckled and looked towards the bathroom. "What did you eat V?"
Veronica got up and washed her face. Those idiots were talking loud enough for her to hear the whole conversation. She walked into the living room to see the boys settling in the living room to play video games.
"You, okay?" Duncan asked.
"Yeah," she said. "And the only one pregnant is you Dick," Veronica said glaring at him. Dick opened his mouth, "Yeah I heard you from here to Timbuk two"
"Well you can't be anyways, you would have to have sex to be pregnant," Dick teased.
Veronica rolled her eyes, "Ever the gentleman," she said smiling at him. "Maybe this baby is yours," she said.
His eyes widened, "No, I wouldn't do that to my boys," he said.
"You were really drunk last month," Veronica said.
"Shut up V. Okay you're not pregnant," Dick said. "What is up with you anyways."
"Oh gee Dick. I thought you were," Veronica feigned smiling ever so sweetly.
Logan shook his head, "Oh you two are so cute," he said. He had been watching the whole exchange in silence.
Duncan chuckled, "So you going to finish your burger?" he asked.
Veronica looked over at it, and felt her stomach turn over. "Actually I have to go," she said, "Backup is going to be antsy if I'm not home."
He smiled, "Well you got to be going then."
Veronica nodded, and looked over at the two who started the game. "Well, pleasure boys," she said, and headed out towards the door.
Logan stared after her. He looked at Dick, "I'll be back," he said and got up from the floor.
He ran out, and saw her at the elevator. "Hey," he said.
She looked over at him, "Logan," she said.
"Sorry about that."
She shrugged, "It's whatever. It's Dick."
"Alright," he said and turned to walk away. He turned back around, "When you came to my house like 2 weeks ago, was there something you wanted to talk about?"
She looked at him, and as if on cue the elevator doors opened. "No," she said and walked into the elevator before he could say anything else.
Logan shook his head, and ran his hand through his hair. He could never figure that girl out. He walked back to the room.
….
(The next day)
Wallace and Veronica were walking down the hall. Duncan was walking the opposite direction towards them.
"Hey, did you hear?" Duncan asked.
"Hear?" Veronica asked.
"Meg's awake."
Veronica's eyes widened. "She's awake."
"Yeah. I'm going to see her now. You coming?"
"Um sure," she said.
They headed out leaving Wallace.
"Yeah okay. I'll stay here and go to class," he said talking after them but not really to anyone.
….
Duncan pulled into the parking spot at the hospital. He sat back, and stared.
Veronica unbuckled her belt, and leaned to open the door and stopped noticing Duncan froze.
"Hey, are you okay?"Veronica asked.
"Yeah," Duncan said. "I rehearsed repeatedly on what I was going to say. But now I'm blank."
Veronica reached over and touched Duncan's arm. "It'll be okay," she assured him. "I'm right here."
He looked at her, and smiled. He took her hand in his, and stared into her blue eyes. "I don't know where I'd be without you. I love you V," he said.
She smiled, "I know," she said leaning in and kissing him.
They got out of the car and headed to the hospital entrance hand in hand. They walked down the hall and got in the elevators.
Duncan pushed 3, and stepped back. "I don't know why it's so nerve wrecking."
"I'm just as nervous," Veronica assured him.
They stepped out and walked down the hall. They got to her room relieved that her parents weren't there.
Duncan stepped into the room while Veronica held back. She saw the sit out there, and took a seat. Her phone rang, and she looked at the caller ID.
"Hi dad," she said answering.
"Hi. What time are you going to be home for dinner?" he asked.
"As soon as I can. I'm at the hospital with Duncan"
"Okay, be safe sweetie."
"Okay dad," she said and hung up. She looked up seeing Duncan.
"She wants to see you," Duncan said.
Veronica nodded, "Okay," she said and he let her in. He closed the door as soon as she walked in. She turned and saw it was just her and Meg. Meg was sitting up and staring at her.
"Hi Veronica," Meg said smiling a bit.
"Hey. How are you?" she asked slowly approaching her, and sitting on the chair.
Meg shrugged, "You know. Just been sleeping and chilling," she said joking a bit.
Veronica smiled a bit, "I like your attitude."
"I just wanted to say I'm sorry," she said. Veronica gave her a look. "I know you didn't date Duncan meaning to hurt me. I have no right. You dated him first."
Veronica smiled a bit, "But you love him Meg. I know it."
"A little too much," Meg admitted. Silence fell between the two friends. "Veronica, thank you for being my friend."
Veronica nodded, "Thank you for being mine. Even when everyone else turned against me."
"You made the right choice. If I had a dad as great as yours, I would have chosen my dad too."
"I'm going to get going," Veronica said. "You and Duncan should talk."
Meg smiled a bit, "Thank you."
Veronica nodded, and headed out. Duncan and Veronica walked down the hallway to the elevators. She stopped and looked at him, "You should stay."
Duncan was about to say something but Veronica cut him off. "You need to talk to her," Veronica insisted.
"Are you sure?"
She nodded.
"How are you going to get home?" he asked.
"I have people I can call," she said. "Duncan, you're amazing, and Meg sees that. You deserve to be happy," she said leaning up and kissing his cheek.
He met her eyes.
"Go get her," she said softly as the elevator opened and she stepped in quickly pushing the button to close the doors.
…..
He reached the hospital, and pulled to the front. She got in, and he drove out. The drive was quiet for a bit. Neither one of them wanted to speak first. He cleared his throat.
"Logan," she said breaking the silence. "Thank you for coming to get me."
He looked at her, "Of course," he said. She turned her head to look out the window. "Couldn't leave you stranded now could I?"
"Oh ever the knight in shinning armor," she said. She looked at him, "I-I want to say I'm sorry," she said.
"For?" he asked.
"For the way I ended things. For never fighting for us. For everything."
"Yeah, well, I didn't try either," he said.
She nodded. She looked down at her hands and fiddled with her purse. "I-I'm pregnant Logan," she said softly.
"Huh?" he asked.
She inhaled, and exhaled slowly. "I'm pregnant."
He looked at her and then at the road. He signaled pulling the car over.
"Are you crazy?" she asked. "We're at the bridge."
"Did you say you're pregnant?" he asked.
She nodded, "Can you take me home?" she asked. "This is not a place to be stopping."
"Veronica, you can't say that expect me to continue driving without not talking about this."
"Can we talk about this somewhere safer?"
He bit his inner lips, "We're going to my place," he said and drove to the Neptune Grand.
"I wanna go home."
"We're talking about this now," Logan said firmly.
Veronica sighed, "Okay," she muttered, and pulled out her phone to text her dad she was going to be late.
….
They reached the Neptune Grand. They didn't talk until they got to the room.
Once they walked in, Logan turned sharply as the door shut.
"Who's the father?" he asked.
Veronica opened her mouth.
"It's Duncan isn't it? Is he making you raise it on your own? Who does he think he is?"
"Logan-"
"I'm going to beat his-"
"Logan, you're the father," Veronica said interrupting him.
He stopped, "I'm not the father."
She smiled tightly, "I'm 9 weeks. Duncan and I haven't even had sex until two weeks ago."
Logan swallowed the lump in his throat. "H-How?"
"Do you need the birds and bees' speech?" she asked.
"I mean, we were careful."
"Yeah, well. Not careful enough."
"You're shitting me Ronnie," he said.
"No, I'm not. I went to the doctor last week, and it's confirmed."
He looked away from her. "How the hell," he said sitting down on the couch. "I-I can't be a father."
Veronica nodded fighting tears, "I know that," she said. "Which is why I have an appt to terminate my pregnancy in 2 weeks."
He looked up, "How selfish are you?" he asked angrily.
"Me? Selfish?" she asked. "You just-"
"I'm in shock Veronica," he said standing up. "You can't throw this bomb on me and all of a sudden just make up your mind to terminate this pregnancy."
"What do you want me to do Logan? I'm 18, you're 17. We-We're seniors. We're not fit to be parents. And my job-"
He scoffed, "Your job with your dad? Or Java the Hut? Because being an investigator is all the rage right now."
She sighed holding her hands up in defeat. "What do you want me to say Logan?"
"Talk to me first before making that decision. How about that?" he asked approaching her with anger in his eyes.
She backed up, and he kept approaching her. She was shivering. She had never seen him this angry. She backed up in the wall. 'Fuck' she thought.
"You and I are supposed to make this decision together."
"Who are you kidding Logan? You're an impulsive, psychotic jackass, and I'm just that girl everyone thinks is easy. Why not live up to it and get rid of it."
She was pushing him. He clenched his jaw and fist as he tried to control that rage in him. He pounded the wall close to him and stared at her.
"You have NO right Veronica," he said through clenched teeth.
"No right?" she asked pushing him off her, "We're still in high school Logan. Am I supposed to be okay with this?" she asked. "I thought the almighty Logan Echolls would be glad to be off the hook," she said fighting the tears in her eyes. "YOU have NO right to be mad."
"It's mine too Veronica," he said. "That baby is mine too."
Duncan walked in and looked back and forth. "Wha-baby? You're pregnant?" he asked looking at Veronica.
Logan looked up and rubbed his nose, "Yeah," he said. And pucked his lips, "Yeah," he said and stepped back.
"Duncan," Veronica began to say.
"No," he said holding his hand up. "I-I can't deal with this right now," he said, and walked to his room without looking back.
Logan inhaled and looked at Veronica, he exhaled slowly. "I have a right to this decision Ronnie," he said meeting her eyes.
Veronica licked her lips and looked down the tears rolling down her eyes. "Yeah you do," she said looking up at him. "But not with this one," she said, turning and walking away as quickly as she could. She needed to be alone, and being there was not easy for her right now. She needed to go home. She got into the elevator and the door was closing, and someone stopped it. She looked up seeing Logan got into the elevator.
She looked up fighting the urge to cry again.
"We may not be agreeing right now, but I am taking you home," he said.
She nodded as silence fell between them.
…
He pulled up in front of her house. He turned off the engine.
"You don't have to walk me to the door. My dad kind of doesn't like you," Veronica said.
He chuckled, "That's not a surprise," he said.
She unbuckled her belt and was about to open the door.
"What happened to us?" he asked.
She stopped looking at him. "What do you mean?"
"We used to be friends."
"Well, I guess my dad getting on everyone's bad side kind of put a damper on it."
He nodded, "True." Silence fell upon them.
"Well, thanks for the "
"I don't want you to terminate," he said shocking her.
She looked at him, "Wait, what?"
He looked at her, "I want to be a part of this Ronnie," he said.
"Logan, do you know what you're saying?"
"Yes, I do. I want us to figure this out together."
She licked her lips, "Okay. As friends?"
"As friends," he said.
She nodded, "Thank you for the ride," she said and got out of the car.
She closed the door, and half ran, half walk to her front door.
Logan leaned his head back on his seat. He pounded his head on on the head rest, "Stupid stupid stupid Logan. You should have just told her "I love you". He watched as the porch light went off, and he started his car and drove away.
….
Veronica went into her room with Backup following her. She closed the door and stood in front of her full-length mirror. She took her shirt off and pushed in her back puffing out her lower body. She was pudging a little, but it was still hard to tell. She bit her bottom lip. She sighed, and she put her shirt back on. She wasn't sure if she knew if she was ready. She wanted to go to Stanford, but being a single mother, she wasn't sure how that'd look. She heard her phone beep. She read the text.
"Oh my-"she said her eyes widening. She solved the case.
She grabbed her notebook and a pen from her bag and started writing.
