Chapter LXV: Over And Out.

Last Time.

Trombus September 13, 23:45 UTC.

"I can feel my power draining away."

Superman said as he got on the ground of the planet while looking at the red sun. "If there's a fight, I won't be of much use."

"The other Kryptonians won't have powers, either." Lightning said before looking at the others. "Meanwhile, we have a Martian, a Green Lantern, a New God, three Amazons, and me. I think we'll be fine."

"You're sure you're OK with this?/You're certain you're all right with this?" Miss Martian asked Danny who beeped when Orion spoke up at the same time.

Orion then hit a button on his Motherbox having it connect to Danny who blinked with it. "We need to stop. It's hurting Danny."

"No, keep going. I can take it." Danny said via the link.

Suddenly a Boom Tube opened up. "Searching for Conner now."

"The rest of you, stand ready."

Suddenly Danny hit the group as Ma'alefa'ak appeared with Lor-Zod. Then Faora and Zod walked pit revealing their dark skin as Ursa followed revealing fair skin Conner walked out then screamed as his burns and gashes gave him pain.

"Ookir. Jeju. (Father. Mother.)"

The three looked to see Lor-Zod standing speaking in Kryptonian. "Tiv Zhiutidh nim raopotiv! (The Galaxy is yours!)"

Now.

Trombus September 14, 00:01 UTC.

"You claim to be our son?"

Zod asked Lor who nodded. "Yes. I have come from the distant future to free you from the Phantom Zone." He replied walking up. "There is much to explain, but you should know that 40 years ago, Rao exploded, taking Krypton with it. But Krypton lives on in the House of Zod, and you, General Dru-Zod, are destined to unite this Galaxy under your rule."

"Not long ago, the Phantom Zone Projector sought to draw me out," Zod explained, having his son nod.

"That was me. But you see before you warriors determined to thwart my efforts and your destiny to keep you trapped in the living death of the Zone. And you see that, as your loyal son, I have gathered the resources to bring them all low. Even this one. Kal-El, the so-called Superman. Last-survivor of the House of El."

Zod looked down at Superman before looking up. "Some of what you say tallies with what we already know. But if you are truly our son, speak the Secret Maxim of the House of Zod."

"'From the will comes strength. From strength comes the will.'"

"He is our son."

"Of course, he's our son, Dru. He has your eyes." Ursa nodded as Lor knelt.

"Follow me, and I will bring you to a world under a yellow sun that will grant both of you power unimaginable. And with that power will come the true ascension of the House of Zod.

"Go back through the Boom tube. Organize the others." Zod turned to Faora to give the order. "Gather every Zone inmate from the other Forts. Bring my Army back through this portal."

"As you command."

Green Lantern struggled to move her arm out and hit the Kryptonians with blasts before Ma'alefa'ak hit her with a brain blast. "Oh, no, you don't."

"What just... How did she..."

"Damn it." Ma'alefa'ak cursed as Lor stood. "The Lantern's will is strong. My brain blast barely phased her, and the Mother-Thrall cannot contain her for long. You should-"

"My parents are vulnerable here. Get us back to Earth, now!"

"As you wish. But Mother-Thrall can only create one Boom tube at a time." The Martian said before Lor glared.

"You have your orders!"

The Phantom Zone September 14, 00:04 UTC.

"Those are the General's orders…"

Faora said before the Boom Tube closed.

"Well, that takes care of that problem."

Naruto said from behind a rock. "Yeah. I thought we'd have to fight off an entire Kryptonian Army to keep 'em out of that Boom tube." Rocket said with a nod.

"Z, time to go," Naruto said before she started lowering her arms.

North Pole September 14, 00:05 UTC.

"Where are we?"

Zod asked as he, Ursa, Lor, and Ma'alefa'ak walked into a large cave looking like crystals with Superman's suit on display, as well as Conner's white solar suit and one of his regular outfits.

"I thought it appropriate to take possession of the Fortress of our enemy, Earth's Superman, Kal-El, son of Lara and Jor-El," Lor said looking at two giant statues of a man and woman holding a world up. He then looked to see Conner was dropped wounds healing fast. "He is alive. Well, not for long." Lor knelt and grabbed his neck.

"Stop."

"Father, you don't understand. This is Kon-El, your enemy. And look, this world's yellow sun already begins to heal him. We must kill him now before he recovers his invulnerability."

"I have turned this Superboy. Now, his loyalty is only to Zod." Zod said as Lor stood.

"But-"

"My son, do you challenge the word of Zod?" Ursa asked Lor who sighed.

"No. No, of course not."

"Calm yourself, husband. All children test their elders." Ursa said, touching Zod.

"Ah, your touch, your actual physical touch could calm a Devourer."

"It is wonderful to be real again."

"It's more than that. I feel better. Stronger than I ever have."

"That's Earth's yellow sun," Lor said walking up. "After being under Trombus' red sun, I'm not yet at my peak, but I can still do this." He said before using heat vision to destroy the zeta tunnel. "That should prevent any interference. Now, please. Step inside these devices." He gestured to two solar pods. "They are solar pods that will hasten your ascendancy to true power."

"First things first. Reopen the portal to the Zone. We need to get my people out. We need the Army of the House of Zod." Zod ordered as Ma'alefa'ak created a Boom Tube at that. "Now, let us claim our power."

The Phantom Zone September 14 01:08 UTC

"One school bus portal to the real world, coming up," Zatanna said before a Boom Tube opened.

"The Boom tube has reopened," Naruto said before Zatanna spoke.

"So first a Boom tube opens, then it closes, then it opens again? "

"And we come here to get Superboy. He won't go with us. And then he leaves without us?" Artemis asked looking at the others

"Yeah, I'm starting to hate the Phantom Zone." Rocket sighed glancing over.

"Alright, come on. Job to do."

"I told you the General would come through. Now, go! Gather his army!" Faora said before turning to see the heroes in their way.

Trombus September 14 01:12 UTC.

"Kid Flash?"

Superman got up as the others followed and helped Kid Flash up. "Are you alright?"

"Yeah, fine, big guy. Just feeling a little inhibited, if you know what I mean."

"Oh, right." Superman nodded and after a little struggle, broke Kid Flash's collar.

"Ah-ha! Thanks. BRB. Peow!"

He dashed away as Wonder Woman and Lightning walked up. "Where the hell's he going?"

"We'll find out soon enough."

"Troia, Fury. Conner is alive. And he's in so much pain. Physical and emotional. Even while we were being tortured by my brother, I could feel it. Clark, he's so lost. He's regressed to his base of Cadmus programming." Miss Martian explained as Superman looked at Lightning.

"Meaning he's back to thinking he's just a weapon?"

"Meaning he's a loose cannon under enemy control."

"I need to find him," Troia said walking up.

"As do I." Her twin mirrored.

"We need to get back to Earth." Phantom Girl said, getting their attention. "Closest planet under a yellow sun. That's where they'd go."

"We've lost Motherbox. There will be no Boom tube. But perhaps Green Lantern can take us through subspace." Orion mused before the wind picked up as they heard Kid Flash.

"Hello, Megan!"

They looked to see Kid standing on Bio-Ship's wing. "She will have some help."

The Phantom Zone September 14, 01:18 UTC.

"Move, Soldiers of Zod!"

The prisoners flew at the group as Nightwing got in front. "You shall not pass!"

"Oh, my God." Naruto groaned as Artemis looked at him.

"Huh. I bet he's always wanted to say that."

"I always wanted to say that."

"Look, one of us should get out to help," Naruto said before looking at Nightwing. "Go."

"Got it, boss!"

He jumped through as Aquaman looked at the others. "Focus. Do not forget that they defeated us before. And handily. For the sake of the galaxy, we cannot let them defeat us again."

Subspace September 14, 01:19 UTC

Green Lantern had a bubble around Bio-Ship as she flew in front of them as Kid was running on the treadmill. "Forager's warp field is so crash! I'm running fast, so Bio-Ship can run faster, and now Forager's breaking all modes to get us back to Earth even faster still!"

Miss Martian then looked at the controls as she said. "Thank you, Bio-Ship. It means the world to me that you've foregone your retirement for Conner's sake."

"You did it. You saved Superboy!" Saturn Girl said to Phantom Girl via telepathy.

"I'm afraid I... we… haven't quite saved him yet."

"Maybe not, but after spending months believing we'd failed and lost you both, it's a miracle to learn there's at least now hope."

"But… should we be involving these heroes? We're putting the time stream at real risk." Chameleon asked, looking at the others.

"With Zod free, that's the least of our worries."

"How are you doing?" Lightning asked Superman. "Learning there are other survivors from Krypton must be an adjustment.

"You know, I've wished for this my whole life. But now the very thing I've wished for is putting the entire galaxy at risk. Honestly, I... I have no idea what I'm feeling. Except this. I'm relieved Conner's alive. And right now our focus needs to be on saving him. Kid Flash, have you heard from Kage, Zatanna, or Nightwing?" Superman asked looking back at the hero. "Last time I saw them, they were looking for you."

"Well, they never found me. No clue where they are now."

The Phantom Zone September 14, 01:21 UTC.

"It's working. We're like the Spartans-"

Artemis stopped as Aquaman continued. "At Thermopylae, yes. A small force can hold a small pass because-"

"Only so many opponents can attack at once." Naruto finished punching one away himself.

"Etativel yawa, Gib Yug! (Levitate away, big guy!)"

"Thanks, Z!" Naruto looked back after being grabbed before the man was sent back.

"Happy to help."

The North Pole September 14, 01:29 UTC.

At the Fortress, Ursa and Dru enjoy the sense of power provided as they charge in the pods. Nightwing emerges and destroys the pods with a pair of batarangs. Lor attacks him in rage and throws him into ice statues of Jor-El and Lara El, which crash down upon Nightwing, splitting his head open. Dru and Ursa emerge from the wreckage unscathed.

Dru asks about their attacker, and Lor confirms Nightwing is dead. Ursa rages that the process was interrupted before finishing, becoming even angrier when Lor suggests patience since she will still gain power under natural sunlight. The rage awakens the Eye of Ekron Lor stolen from the Infinity Vault, and it claims her as its new master giving her green clothing, cowl, and cape as the eye grew basketball sized and floated beside her.

Lor explains that the Eye was a powerful mystic weapon, wielded in the 31st century by the Emerald Empress. Dru refuses to be distracted, even by good fortune, and guesses that Nightwing's companions are preventing his army from emerging. Lor volunteers to go through the tube, but Ma'alefa'ak warns him that a boom tube can only stay open so long; he may not have much time.

The Eye attempts to communicate with Ursa, while Dru looks at a framed Daily Planet front-page story on Superman. Ma'alefa'ak warns that the tube is about to collapse, and Dru orders Lor back, as Conner begins to regain consciousness.

The Phantom Zone September 14, 01:33 UTC.

In the Zone, the squad continues to hold the tube, and Zatanna casts a spell to make her foes fight each other. Faora has the Kryptonians build their rage, only to calm themselves as they hear a Devourer approach. The Devourer charges at the squad, who move back into the tube, which the Devourer is too big to enter.

Faora can move through the Devourer thanks to the Zone's intangibility but returns to normal once partway through the tube. Kaldur realizes they can fight more effectively there, using their equipment and powers, and catches Faora with a water whip. Faora rages that she was only sentenced to five years but has served 40.

Kaldur again offers parole, but Faora is impatient to hear him out. She is pushed near the Zone end of the tube and is bitten and dragged off by the Devourer. The other Kryptonians charge into the tube, and Lor approaches from the other end. Rocket creates a force bubble around the squad, blocking the tube. The Zone Kryptonians pound on the bubble, strengthening it, even as Lor blasts it with his heat vision.

The Tube starts to crumble and the Kryptonians on both sides flee the failing tube, and Zatanna conjures a portal to get them back to the school bus.

Earth September 14, 04:08 UTC.

Green Lantern app[eared in space with Bio-Ship

"We're here."

"I Love that Big Blue Marble!"

"Searching for Boom tube spikes." Lightning said typing as Orion pointed to the North Pole.

"Here, a substantial signal. What is that place?"

"My Fortress of Solitude," Superman replied as Orion looked over.

"The enemy has invaded your sanctum?"

"Maybe don't rub it in." Lightning looked up at that as Superman sighed.

"The Fortress has external sensors. When we get close, it will alert whoever's inside."

"Bio-Ship has already interfaced with the Fortress' Kryptonian systems. They'll never see us coming." Miss Martian said from her seat.

The Bio-Ship approaches the Fortress, but the Emerald Empress is outside waiting. Saturn Girl spots her, but before she can warn anyone, the Eye blasts the Bio-Ship, destroying the forward section and sending it crashing to the ground. The Empress floats down to the rest of their group, looking upon the wreckage.

All the occupants are unconscious, save Superman who prepares to fight. Dru tells him he would prefer not to fight him; despite being a son of El, he is a Kryptonian, a rare thing now. Zod offers to spare Kal-El if he will kneel and join his campaign of conquest. Superman refuses, but then Dru opens the Kryptonite he had taken from Nightwing and Ma'alefa'ak holds it against Superman's chest.

Superman falls to his knees, turning green as he is poisoned. He asks Kon-El for help, but Conner says he cannot help him, because he is already dead. Lor takes this as further proof Superman and Superboy should be killed; they are both House of El and one does not even know his mind but Dru has other ideas.

Metropolis September 14, 00:16 EDT.

All but Rocket appeared back on the bus. "Rocket."

Over in the middle of the city, Zod appeared with the others, Superboy holding Superman in his white solar suit.

Lor started destroying cars with his heat vision getting people's attention as various cameras turned on Zod to broadcast.

"People of Earth, I am General Zod. And on the basis of my will and my strength, I lay claim to this world in the name of Krypton and the House of Zod. Do not look for succor from terrestrial forces. Here are your greatest heroes, Superman and Superboy, both Sons of Krypton, who betrayed their home world. One has already fallen, the other has wisely chosen to serve… At my side." Zod said as Ursa used her new magic to change Superboy's shield to Zod's

"Is that Superboy?"

"I thought he was dead."

"What's wrong with Superman?"

"Watch, as I order this loyal follower to slay his only brother. You are the weapon created to slay the Superman, should he turn from the light. Prove your loyalty, my son. Prove you are loyal to the House of Zod. Kal-El has turned away from the light of Krypton. Finish the work you started." Zod said as Superboy grabbed Superman by the neck. "On my signal… At my command. And once this is done, Earthers, you will see that all must kneel before Zod."
