Castle Black 298 AC
As Elaena, Benjen, and Aemon Targaryen gathered together, the atmosphere was filled with a mix of anticipation and curiosity. Benjen and Aemon knew that Elaena had something of utmost importance to discuss, as she insisted on meeting with them before their scheduled gathering with Lord Commander Mormont and Aelora Balaerys through the magic glass.
"Ely, what is it that you wanted to talk about?" Benjen asked, looking at her with concern.
Elaena took a deep breath, her hands slightly trembling. "Before our meeting tomorrow, there's something crucial I need to reveal," she began. "As you know, through blood magic, I can recognize individuals who carry Targaryen blood and are related to me."
Aemon nodded in understanding. "Yes, I recall when you recognized me as a relative through that magic."
"Exactly," Elaena continued. "Fourteen years ago, I performed a magical ceremony in Valyria upon the arrival of the young Aegon and Rhaenys. It was a ceremony where I lit magical candles known as candles of life and death. These candles hold part of the spirit of living Targaryens and remain lit as long as the person is alive."
"Incredible," Aemon said in amazement as he observed Elaena. Benjen simply smiled at her. In the eight years he had lived with her inside those caves, he had witnessed her perform incredible magic.
Elaena smiled back and continued, "During that ceremony, several candles were lit, and one of those candles belongs to you, Maester Aemon."
Aemon's eyes widened in surprise; he didn't say anything, but a slight smile formed on his face.
Elaena briefly glanced at Aemon and continued, "Thanks to Jon Connington's assistance, we were able to identify all the living Targaryens who were not present at the ceremony, all except for a child whose existence Jon Connington was unaware of," Elaena explained, her voice tinged with nervousness.
Curiosity now burning in their eyes, Benjen and Aemon leaned forward, urging her to continue.
"For years, we searched for rumors or clues about this lost child, but without any result until..." Elaena hesitated and then looked at Benjen. He approached her, kissed her on the lips, and said, "Ely, you can tell me, I love you, and you can trust me."
"Until today," Elaena said softly, "the young man accompanying Lord Commander Mormont is not a bastard but a true Targaryen.
"J... Jon," Benjen said in astonishment, his eyes shining as he looked at his wife.
"Yes," Elaena replied, taking Benjen's hands and gazing at him affectionately. "Jon is the legitimate son of Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark."
Aemon gasped, clenching his fist at the gravity of this revelation. "Are you certain, Elaena?"
"I am certain," Elaena affirmed with determination. "Blood magic do not deceive. Jon Snow is a trueborn Targaryen, not a bastard."
The revelation hung heavy in the air as Benjen and Aemon absorbed the information. Benjen had always wondered about Eddard's silence regarding Jon, and now, he was faced with the truth. Aemon, too, was taken aback, processing the implications of this newfound knowledge.
Benjen's heart swelled with a mix of emotions, and at the same time, he noticed that Elaena, who still held his hands, was looking at him with shining eyes. Benjen pulled her closer and embraced her, and she melted into his loving embrace. "My brother Eddard and his honor, his commitment to Catelyn... I always felt there was more to Jon's story," Benjen said.
Elaena and Benjen looked at Aemon, who had an indescribable expression on his face and seemed lost in thought. Suddenly, Aemon frowned, sharing his thoughts, "Rhaegar was a fool. If he had publicly acknowledged his marriage to Lyanna and their child, a war might have been avoided."
"Yes," Elaena said sadly, still embraced by Benjen.
Benjen, deep in thought, added, "My brother's actions saved Jon's life. If Robert or worse, Tywin Lannister, had discovered the truth, they would have ordered his assassination."
Benjen took a moment to let the revelation sink in, his mind racing with the implications for Jon and for the realm. "We must be cautious with this information," he said, looking at Elaena and Aemon. "Jon's true parentage could put him in great danger if it were to be revealed."
Elaena nodded in agreement. "You're right, Ben. The Targaryen name carries weight and with it enemies and allies. For now, we must keep this knowledge among ourselves, at least until the right time comes to reveal the truth."
"I believe we should tell Lord Commander Mormont," Aemon interjected with a serious expression.
"I agree," said Elaena. "Tomorrow, before the meeting with Aelora, I will inform Lord Commander."
One day after, Lord commander tower (Castle black)
As Elaena, Benjen, Aemon Targaryen, and Lord Commander Mormont gathered together, the atmosphere was filled with a mix of anticipation and curiosity. They were waiting for their scheduled gathering with Aelora Balaerys through the magic glass, but Elaena had something important to discuss with lord commander before the reunion.
Lord Mormont maintained a neutral demeanor as he listened to the revelation about Jon Snow's true parentage. Finally, he said, "Poor boy," as he contemplated this newfound information.
He continued, "Lady Elaena, as I mentioned nine years ago when we first met, as Lord Commander of the Night's Watch, my position is one of neutrality regarding the political conflicts in Westeros. My duty is to safeguard the realm from the threats north of the Wall." Jeor looked at Elaena, Benjen, and Aemon with a hint of sadness and continued, "My personal opinion on what you've just revealed about Jon and his true parents is a somber one. I share Maester Aemon's sentiment that Prince Rhaegar was a fool to hide this information, and Jon is a victim of that secrecy."
As Lord Commander Mormont concluded his remarks, a weighty silence settled over the room. The truth about Jon Snow's lineage was a revelation that would resonate far beyond their small gathering. Elaena's mind raced with thoughts of the future and the challenges they would face in convincing the realm of the impending peril. The room hummed with tension and anticipation, each member lost in their contemplations.
One hour later
For an hour, Elaena and Benjen recounted their extraordinary experiences over the past eight years. They delved into details such as the magical ceremony in which an alliance was formed between the Forest Gods, the Lord of the Light R'hllor of the Shadowlands, and the Valyrian gods, the rejuvenation of Elaena by the god Arrax ,the prohibition by the gods of Valyria to Elaena and Benjen to leave Westeros during the war , the enigmatic presence of the sorceress of Asshai, and many other details.
the narrative concluded with Elaena and Benjen delivering the crucial message sent by Leaf, a child of the forest, about the awakening of the Others in the far north, inside the Land of Always Winter. The message carried another vital directive - Elaena and Benjen were to journey south and form an alliance of warriors, tasked with aiding the Prince That Was Promised in his struggle against the impending darkness
The impact of their narrative on everyone present was profound. Aelora Balaerys and Maester Aemon were enthralled by the story, recognizing its significance. However, Lord Commander Mormont, though impressed by their account, couldn't help but feel deeply troubled. He knew that sending letters asking for help would be met with skepticism and perhaps even ridicule when mentioning the Children of the Forest and an alliance of gods.
"Lady Elaena, Benjen Stark, what I've just heard is not only fascinating but deeply concerning," Jeor expressed with a furrowed brow. "As Lord Commander, my responsibility is to ensure the safety of the realm and its people. But how can I convince others to take this impending threat seriously? Mentioning the promised prince , the Children of the Forest and an alliance of gods might lead them to believe I've lost my senses."
Maester Aemon nodded in understanding, "Indeed, Lord Commander, the events of the Long Night occurred thousands of years ago, and such ancient tales might be dismissed as mere myths by many. Convincing them that the true danger lies beyond the Wall will be a daunting task."
"I'm afraid we will need solid evidence," Lord commander mormont continued. "Something concrete that cannot be easily dismissed. Records, historical accounts, or artifacts from the past that could substantiate the existence of the Others."
Benjen Stark spoke up, "My brother, Eddard Stark, may hold the key to making them take the northern threat seriously. If we can convince him about this danger, he could sway potential allies in the South."
"With determination in his eyes, Benjen continued, "Regarding what Lord commander mentioned about finding evidence to confirm the presence of the Others, although we are lacking now, during the eight years I spent with Elaena in those caves, accompanied by the children of the forest, I learned about two powerful magics: Ice Magic and Forest Magic."
Suddenly, Benjen's eyes turned white, and the room was filled with the scents of a lush forest, accompanied by the sounds of woodland animals. The group looked on in amazement as he continued, "My ancestor, Bran the Builder, possessed this kind of magic. It was through this very magic that the construction of the Wall was initiated."Benjen explained.
Aelora Balaerys, who was observing through the magic glass, couldn't smell the forest, but she could hear the sounds of the animals. She thought to herself, "Ice Magic and Forest Magic, so that's what the magics of the North are called. Fascinating."
Once the magic demonstration was over, Benjen continued, "Elaena and I will journey to Winterfell to speak with my brother and present him with irrefutable proof. We will show him the truth."
"You won't go alone," Lord Commander Mormont replied firmly. "Lady Elaena, Benjen," Lord Commander said, his gaze filled with determination, "I, along with other members of the Night's Watch, will accompany you. This matter concerns a threat that comes from beyond the Wall, and it's essential that we be present at that meeting."
Curiously, Maester Aemon asked, "Who will be accompanying you on this journey?"
"Jon Snow, or should I say Jon Targaryen, Samwell Tarly. That young man has proven to be brilliant and can contribute a great deal. I was also hoping that you, Maester Aemon, would join us. Your wisdom will be crucial for this meeting. Additionally, about 20 brothers of the Night's Watch will accompany us. They won't participate in the meeting, but they will ensure our safety on the road," Lord Commander Mormont explained.
Upon hearing the name Jon Targaryen, Elaena remained silent, but internally she thanked Lord Commander Mormont for considering bringing Jon Targaryen to Winterfell. She had been planning to request a special permit from Lord Commander Mormont so that Jon could accompany her and her husband Benjen on their journey. However, with this decision, it was even better that Jon would join them with an official Night's Watch mission, rather than a mere permit.
Benjen, somewhat surprised, voiced his concern, "With all due respect to Maester Aemon, I am worried about his health for this journey." He was about to elaborate further, but Aemon gently indicated that he wanted to speak.
"I want to go," Aemon said, his gaze unwavering as he looked at both Lord Commander Mormont and Benjen with determination. "I may be old, but my mind is still sharp, and my knowledge may prove crucial in understanding the threat that lies beyond the Wall and in convincing Lord Eddard Stark about it."
Lord Commander Mormont's smile grew wider as he admired Aemon's unwavering spirit. "Maester Aemon, your wisdom and guidance have always been a pillar of strength for the Night's Watch. Your presence will be an invaluable asset, and we shall take every measure to ensure your comfort during the journey. You will travel in a special carriage, as befitting your esteemed position."
"I will also attend," Aelora Balaerys said through the magic mirror, astonishing Elaena, Benjen, Jeor Mormont, and Aemon. The unexpected declaration left the room momentarily silent as everyone processed the implication of her decision.
Elaena, recovering from her initial surprise, looked towards the magic mirror and spoke, "Aelora, my dear friend, I cannot express how much your presence means to me and to this cause. But coming to Westeros is no small journey, . Are you absolutely sure about this?"
"Yes," Aelora said with conviction, "Your presence, Elaena, and mine, as a member of the Triarchy of Valyria, will send a message that Valyria wants to help in the fight against the threat from the North."
"You are more than welcome, Lady Aelora," said Lord Commander Mormont, who smiled warmly. "I am eager to meet you in person."
Elena was happy that she would see her friend in person after ten long years, but she was confused. "Aelora is not an impulsive person; her actions are calculated. Something must have changed in these eight years in Valyria for AElora to decide to come to Westeros, Elaena thought to herself.
With the matter settled, Lord Commander Mormont turned his attention back to Maester Aemon and spoke with determination, "It is decided then. When this meeting concludes, we will send the letters to lord Eddard Stark."
Maester Aemon nodded in agreement.
Observing that the first topic of discussion had concluded, Lord Commander Mormont continued, "Now that we have addressed this matter, I'd like to continue discussing the Wildlings and Mance Rayder," Lord Commander Mormont said, turning his attention to Elaena and Benjen. "Lady Elaena, Benjen, what can you tell me about them?"
Elaena spoke up, "Lord Commander, this is a delicate matter that needs careful consideration. The Free Folk are not the true enemy; they are alive, not dead. The true enemy is the Others and the dead. Eventually, Lord Commander, we'll need to establish a treaty with them to grant them access to lands south of the Wall, or they will become undead soldiers of the Army of Darkness."
Aelora Balaerys offered an alternative solution, "I believe I can propose something else. I need to consult with the other members of the Triarchy, but I think we can relocate the Free Folk to Numenor and prepare them for the upcoming war."
Elaena was taken aback to hear Aelora Balaerys mentioning Numenor in front of Lord Commander Mormont and Maester Aemon. eight years ago, Numenor was still a secret known only in Valyria, and until that moment, Elaena believed that the only non-Valyrian person who knew about the migration to Numenor was her husband, Benjen.
"What's happening, Aelora? First, you announce that you want to come to Westeros, and now you offer lands in Numenor as an alternative for the Freefolk. What has happened in these eight years to make you act this way?" thought Elaena, who watched Aelora with wide eyes.
Seeing Elaena's surprised expression, Aelora smiled and said, "Don't worry, Elaena. Lord Commander Mormont and Maester Aemon already know about this. Over the past eight years, approximately 95% of the peninsula's inhabitants have been relocated to Numenor. Only the three families of the Triarchy, the members of the Forty Families, and the serving families of slaves remain on the peninsula."
"Now I understand," Elaena thought, her mind racing with this newfound revelation. "For Aelora and the Triarchy, the hardest part is already done: relocating the majority of the population to Númenor. It's clear now why Aelora is not so secretive; she can act with more freedom."
As Aelora proposed relocating the Free Folk to Numenor, Lord Commander Mormont chimed in, "While the idea of relocating the Free Folk is intriguing, negotiating with Mance Rayder will be a difficult task. However, we could send some Wildling prisoners currently held at Castle Black to propose a potential meeting with Mance."
Elaena considered the suggestion and replied, "It's worth a try. If there's any chance of finding common ground with the Free Folk and uniting against the true threat beyond the Wall, we must explore every opportunity."
Lord Commander Mormont nodded, "Indeed, Lady Elaena. But let us do this after we speak with Lord Eddard Stark," he paused and continued, "Once we have the support of the Starks and the North, we can proceed to initiate negotiations with Mance Rayder."
Benjen added, "We should also prepare a letter for Mance, offering assurances of safe passage and a neutral meeting ground."
Aemon, who had been listening attentively, spoke up, "Sending the Wildling prisoners might show a willingness to establish peaceful dialogue. We can only hope that Mance is willing to listen."
After discussing other matters and as the meeting was about to conclude, Lord Commander Mormont looked around the room with a serious expression and said, "What about the boy? Shall I summon him so that you, Elaena, or you, Benjen, who are his family , can tell him? Or shall we wait for Lord Eddard Stark to reveal the truth to him in Winterfell?"
"I believe it's wiser for Eddard Stark himself to break the news. Winterfell, I consider, is the appropriate place for Jon Targaryen, the legitimate son of Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark, to learn the truth," Elaena said, glancing nervously at Benjen, who took her hand and reassured her, "Come, Ely, you can tell them about your suspicions regarding Jon."
"What suspicion?" Aelora asked with interest.
"I am not 100% sure yet, but I believe Jon Targaryen may be the prince or one of the princes or princesses promised in the visions of Aegon the Conqueror and my own visions," Elaena said with conviction.
A great silence filled the meeting room until Aelora exclaimed in astonishment, "Elaena, now that you mention it, Jon's candle, which represents his life, shines with more intensity than those of the other Targaryens, with the exception of Daenerys." Aelora gasped at mentioning Daenerys and continued, "Do you think that Daenerys, too, is one of the promised princes or princesses?"
"I do not know," Elaena confessed. "But if Jon and Daenerys are the prince and princess promised, we must take special care of them. I only hope the gods send us more signs."
After the meeting, Elaena approached Lord Commander Mormont with a curious expression. "Lord Commander, May I ask you about something I noticed yesterday? It seems different from what I observed eight years ago." Elaena's gaze fixated on the sword Lord Commander carried – seemingly ordinary Westerosi steel, yet imbued with enchantments akin to Valyrian craftsmanship.
"The sword you carry is made of Valyrian steel?" she inquired.
"Yes, Lady Elaena," Lord Commander Mormont replied. "Our weapons and armor are made of Valyrian steel. For the past five years, we have received secret assistance from Valyria, and they have supplied us with armor and weapons crafted from Valyrian steel. However, I requested that they appear to be ordinary steel."
Elaena was fascinated by this revelation and thought, "Aelora has already begun to move her pieces within Westeros. She is planning this for the long term, gradually securing alliances in Westeros so that when the time comes for Aegon to claim the Iron Throne, he will have allies and support within the realm."
With a plan in motion, the group continued their preparations for the journey to Winterfell. They knew that their meeting with Eddard Stark would be of utmost importance, not only to reveal Jon's true parentage but also to discuss the threat posed by the Others and the potential alliance with the Free Folk.
Highgarden 298 AC
There were very few things that could make Olenna Tyrell nervous, but the message she had received that morning had left her deeply uncomfortable. The message came from a contact they had in Mole's Town , written by her cousin Ryam Redwyne, who had been serving in the Night's Watch for fifteen years since Robert sent him and other supporters of House Targaryen to take the black
"The letter is not very clear," Olenna thought with frustration. "My cousin overheard a conversation between Lord Commander Mormont and Maester Aemont. It seems that Benjen Stark, Lord Eddard's younger brother, married someone from Valyria some years ago."
As she pondered the implications, Olenna's mind raced with possibilities. "If this information is correct, I must find a way to ally our house with the Starks," she mused. "If they already have ties to Valyria, it could change the political landscape of Westeros. I must talk to Mace."
One hour later, Olenna Tyrell, was seated in her lavish chamber at Highgarden, accompanied by her son Mace Tyrell. The room was adorned with lush greenery, reflecting the house's emblem of the golden rose. Mace looked at his mother with curiosity, wondering what had brought her to summon him so urgently.
"Mother, you seem rather eager today. What is it that you wish to discuss?" Mace inquired, raising an eyebrow.
Olenna flashed a mischievous smile, "Ah, my dear son, there's something I have in mind that would benefit House Tyrell greatly. You see, I've been thinking about an alliance with House Stark."
Mace leaned forward, intrigued by his mother's words, "Go on, Mother. The Starks are a noble house, but how can their alliance benefit us further?"
Olenna chuckled, "Oh, don't be so naive, my boy. The Stark alliance can indeed be advantageous, especially for our dear Margaery . She's blossoming into a remarkable young lady, and I believe it's time for her to form alliances with other influential houses."
Mace raised an eyebrow, "You're talking about a betrothal, Mother?"
Olenna nodded, "Exactly. And who better than Robb Stark, the eldest son of Eddard Stark, the Warden of the North? The Starks are honorable and well-respected, and a marriage alliance between House Tyrell and House Stark would strengthen both our houses significantly."
Mace considered his mother's words carefully, "But what about House Baratheon? I thought we were seeking a way to betrothed Margaery with the heir to the throne, Prince Joffrey. Besides, the distance between Highgarden and Winterfell is vast."
"My dear son, there are some truths you are yet to discover," Olenna said enigmatically.
Olenna took a few minutes to explain the contents of the letter she had received from their secret contact in Mole's Town.
As she finished, Olenna noticed her son's nervous gaze. Mace could only mutter, "V... Valyria."
Olenna understood her son's anxiety. Fourteen years ago, all the great houses of Westeros had received the same news of Valyria's reappearance. What followed, however, were years of silence, like the calm before a storm.
With a shared understanding, Olenna and Mace knew that the reappearance of Valyria and the possible alliance between the Starks and Valyria could significantly shift the political landscape of Westeros. They were determined to act wisely and find a way to secure House Tyrell's interests in the midst of this intrigue.
Olenna leaned back in her chair, "Mace, we must be intelligent about this. Write a letter to Eddard Stark, expressing our interest in a potential betrothal between Robb and Margaery. I trust you to ensure it reaches him safely."
Mace nodded, "Of course, Mother. I'll see to it that the letter is delivered discreetly."
Olenna smiled, pleased with her son's commitment. "Excellent. Once the letter is sent, we must be patient. I have a feeling that Eddard Stark would not dismiss such an alliance lightly, and if all goes well, Margaery and Robb may meet someday."
Olenna's plan was set into motion. A raven carrying her carefully worded letter soared from Highgarden and made its long journey towards the icy lands of the North. Meanwhile, Olenna and Mace eagerly awaited a response, filled with hope that their proposal would be met with a favorable reception.
Winterfell 298 AC
In the depths of Winterfell, in the dark and silent crypt, Lord Eddard Stark knelt before the statue of Lyanna Stark. His face reflected a mix of sadness and determination as he gently caressed the cold stone that represented his sister.
Catelyn Stark, his wife, had searched for him throughout the fortress and finally found him in that intimate and significant place. She approached cautiously and stood a short distance away, giving him his space to gather his thoughts.
"Ned," she called softly, not wanting to interrupt his moment of reflection.
Ned turned his head slowly towards her, and his eyes met Catelyn's.
"Ned, what's troubling you?" Catelyn asked, noticing the heaviness in his voice.
Ned began, his voice filled with emotion. "I received a message from Highgarden, written by Mace Tyrell."
Curious, Catelyn raised an eyebrow. "What does the message say?"
Ned handed her the letter, and Catelyn quickly scanned its contents. As she read the proposal for a marriage alliance between House Tyrell and House Stark, her eyes widened in surprise.
"The Tyrells wish for Margaery to be betrothed to Robb Stark," Catelyn said, her voice tinged with astonishment.
Ned nodded solemnly, "Yes, they see it as a beneficial match for both our houses."
Catelyn considered the proposal carefully, realizing the potential benefits of such an alliance. "House Tyrell is a powerful house, and their support could greatly strengthen our position in the realm. Moreover, Robb and Margaery are both of marriageable age. It could be a prosperous match for them."
"The letter also mentions that they wish to send Margaery to Winterfell with a group of companions so that she and Robb can get to know each other," Catelyn added.
"I will inform Maester Luwin tomorrow to send a raven to Highgarden, inviting Margaery and her companions to Winterfell," she continued.
Ned looked at her with a mixture of gratitude and concern. "What troubles you, Ned? You should be happy about this potential alliance with House Tyrell, but I still see worry in your eyes," Catelyn said, observing her husband.
Ned sighed, his expression softening. "I am glad for the possibility of this alliance, but my mind is burdened by another matter," he confessed.
"Catelyn, there are other things we must discuss," he said, his voice filled with solemnity. "This morning, I received two additional messages, but not from the south, from the north."
Catelyn looked at him with intrigue, waiting for him to continue.
With a sigh, Benjen Stark stepped forward and spoke, "My brother Benjen reappeared after eight years beyond the Wall."
Catelyn's eyes widened in surprise, and she immediately embraced Ned, "Praise the new gods and the old, Ned! What wonderful news! After eight long years, your brother has returned. But I sense there's more to it. Why do you wear that expression, my love?"
Ned hesitated for a moment before speaking again. "Catelyn, there's something I must share with you. The reappearance of Benjen and the letter he wrote to me made me realize the importance of honesty between us."
Ned's expression turned serious, and he said, "We must talk about Jon Snow, before you learn some truths about him from other sources, truths that I have kept hidden until now."
Catelyn's face turned slightly colder, but she composed herself and replied, "Tell me, Ned."
"First, I must ask for your forgiveness," Ned continued, his voice tinged with regret. "For all these years, I have kept a secret from you, one that has weighed heavily on my conscience."
Catelyn furrowed her brow and thought, "Ned seems quite nervous, I don't think I've ever seen him so insecure, he doesn't know how to proceed." She decided to reach out and hold his hand, silently encouraging him to continue.
"Jon is not my bastard son as everyone believes. He is the son of my sister, Lyanna, and Rhaegar Targaryen," Ned confessed.
Catelyn's eyes widened in shock, and for a moment, she couldn't find the words to respond.
"In the Tower of Joy, I found Lyanna dying and holding her newborn son," Ned continued, his voice shaking with emotion. "She entrusted his care to me and made me promise. I vowed to protect and raise him as my own, to keep him safe from those who would harm him because of his Targaryen lineage."
Catelyn felt a whirlwind of emotions surge within her – surprise, anger, confusion, but also compassion for the burden Ned had carried for so long.
"You've kept this secret all these years?" she finally managed to say, her voice a mixture of astonishment and hurt.
Ned nodded, his gaze never leaving hers. "I feared for Jon's life if his true parentage became known. Robert and Tywin Lannister would have seen him as a threat to their claims to the throne and would have sought to have him killed. I could never permit that to happen to my sister's child."
Catelyn's anger softened as she understood the gravity of the situation. "You did what you believed was necessary to protect him," she said, her voice tinged with sadness. "But Ned, I cannot deny that this revelation has hurt me deeply. I've treated Jon poorly because of my suspicions, and now I realize the injustice I've done to him."
"I'm truly sorry, Catelyn," Ned said, his voice filled with remorse. "I should have trusted you enough to share the truth with you from the beginning. But I was afraid of the consequences, and I didn't want to put you or Jon in danger."
Catelyn took a deep breath, trying to compose herself. "We must protect Jon, now more than ever. He is family, and he deserves to grow up surrounded by love and loyalty. I will treat him as a Stark from this moment on."
Ned's eyes softened, grateful for Catelyn's understanding. He pulled her into a warm embrace, holding her tightly.
"I love you, Catelyn," Ned said, his voice sincere. "Thank you for finding it in your heart to forgive me."
"I love you too, Ned," Catelyn replied, tears welling up in her eyes. "We will face whatever challenges lie ahead together, as a family."
"There's something I don't understand, Ned. How did your brother manage to uncover the secret about Jon, a secret that you never disclosed to anyone?" Catelyn questioned, her curiosity piqued.
"I honestly don't have the slightest idea, Cat," said Eddard, looking affectionately at his wife. "That's one of the things I'll ask him during his next visit to Winterfell."
After a brief silence, Eddard continued, "Cat, I already shared the secret about Jon with you. Now, I wish to discuss the other information found in these letters."
For the next hour, Ned proceeded to inform Catelyn of the crucial contents of the two letters. He discussed the potential threat from the North, the upcoming visit of members of the Night's Watch to Winterfell to address this issue, Benjen Stark's marriage with Elaena Targaryen, and the possible arrival of other people from Valyria.
As his narration came to an end, Eddard observed Catelyn, who appeared lost in thought, surprisingly without fear.
"Ned, did Benjen mention more details about his wife, Elaena Targaryen, in his letter?" Catelyn inquired, seeking more information.
"According to Benjen's letter, she is the sister of Aenar Targaryen, the first Targaryen who came from Valyria four hundred years ago to settle in Westeros," Ned explained.
Catelyn then asked, "Aren't you afraid?"
Ned confessed, "Cat, they've been married for eight years now. Elaena is already a part of the family, and according to Benjen's letter, she provided him great support during the eight years he was beyond the Wall. While I do feel some fear, it's more about the potential threat from the North that Lord Commander Mormont mentioned. I will instruct Maester Luwin to draft a letter addressed to Lord Commander Mormont, accepting his proposal and inviting them to Winterfell."
Deep in thought, Catelyn replied, "My love, I must admit I was fearful when you first mentioned Valyria, but now that I reflect upon it, your brother Benjen's marriage may have forged a valuable alliance for us."
As they contemplated the potential benefits of the alliance, Catelyn's thoughts turned to their children and how this revelation might affect them. "Ben, what shall we tell our children about this?" she asked.
Eddard pondered for a moment and replied, "For now, let us withhold the knowledge of the looming threat in the North, let's focus on sharing the news of the possible betrothal between Robb and Margaery Tyrell, and of course, Benjen's long-awaited return, as well as Jon's secret."
Catelyn nodded, understanding the importance of shielding their children from the truth about the dangers beyond the Wall.
One day after- Winterfell
Eddard and Catelyn Stark gathered their children in the Great Hall of Winterfell. Robb and Torrhen sat together, flanked by their younger sisters, Sansa and Arya. Brandon fidgeted restlessly in his seat, while little Rickon remained in Catelyn's arms.
"Children," Eddard began, "Your mother and I have important news to share with you."
Catelyn took a deep breath and continued, "House Tyrell of Highgarden has sent us a proposal for a marriage alliance. They wish for Robb to be betrothed to Margaery Tyrell."
Robb's eyes widened with surprise, while Sansa looked intrigued. Arya, as always, seemed more interested in her swordplay, but she couldn't deny that the news caught her attention too. Torrhen, the quieter of the twins, listened attentively, while Brandon fidgeted with excitement. Little Rickon was too young to fully grasp the situation, but he sensed the excitement in the room and beamed with joy.
"House Tyrell is a powerful house, and this alliance could greatly benefit our family," Catelyn continued. "Margaery is a kind and intelligent girl, and we believe you two would make a strong and prosperous match."
Robb nodded, absorbing the information. "I understand, Father. I will do what's best for our family."
Torrhen agreed, "Yes, Father. If this alliance helps protect Winterfell and our people, then I am in favor of it."
Sansa chimed in, "I've heard stories of House Tyrell's gardens; they are said to be the most beautiful in all of Westeros. If Robb marries Margaery, will I be able to visit Highgarden someday?"
Catelyn smiled at her daughter's enthusiasm, "Of course, dear. If all goes well, you will have the opportunity to visit Highgarden and experience its beauty."
Eddard looked at his children, took a deep breath, and continued, "Now, there's another matter we must discuss. Yesterday, I received a message from your uncle Benjen. He has returned after eight long years beyond the Wall."
The children's eyes widened in amazement, and Robb and Torrhen exchanged glances, eager to meet the uncle they barely remembered.
"Before we talk about Uncle Benjen, there's something else I must address," Eddard said with solemnity. "It's about Jon."
Sansa's eyes filled with tears, and she asked, her voice trembling, "Is Jon alright?" She wiped away a tear, hoping her parents wouldn't notice, but Eddard and Catelyn saw the emotion in their daughter's eyes.
Eddard's heart softened as he looked at Sansa. He understood the complexity of her feelings, having been the one most distant with Jon. "Yes, Jon is fine," he assured her with a gentle smile.
Catelyn then took a deep breath and said, "Children, there's something you need to know. You've grown up believing that Jon is your half-brother, but that's not the truth. He is not Ned's illegitimate son, but rather the son of my sister-in-law, Lyanna Stark, and Rhaegar Targaryen."
Shock and confusion swept through the room. Robb's eyes widened as he grasped the implications, Arya's eyes welled up with tears, Torrhen's was confused, Sansa, her heart pounding in her chest, was taken aback by the revelation, Brandon, who had always been close to Jon, looked visibly saddened by the revelation while little Rickon, though too young to fully comprehend, could sense the weight of the moment and feel the emotions in the room.
Robb spoke, firmness in his voice, "Does Jon know? Does he know the truth?"
Eddard shook his head, "No, he doesn't know. In about 3 months, there will be a visit from the Night's Watch, and Jon will come with them. I plan to reveal this secret to him then."
Eddard continued, "I kept this secret to protect Jon from those who might harm him because of his Targaryen heritage.
"I understand why you kept this a secret, Father," Robb finally said, breaking the silence. "The realm was in turmoil after Robert's Rebellion, and Jon's true lineage could have put him in danger."
Torrhen, his thoughtful nature prevailing, spoke up, "It's a lot to take in, but Jon is still our brother, and we must stand by him."
Sansa wiped away a tear, "I understand, Father. Thank you for being honest with us."
Arya , her emotions more challenging to read, nodded in agreement. "He's still the same person he's always been," she said quietly.
Brandon, usually exuberant, seemed subdued as he added, "He is a Starks, no matter what, and we protect our own."
Eddard and Catelyn exchanged a proud look at their children's resolution and unity.
In the following minutes, Eddard and Catelyn explained, without delving into too many details, about the reappearance of Benjen Stark and his wife, Elaena Targaryen. As they concluded, they noticed their children staring at them in astonishment.
Arya was the first to break the silence, her eyes shining with excitement. "Does this mean my aunt Elaena will let me ride a dragon?! I've always wanted to ride one!"
Brandon, with a grin on his face, chimed in, "This is incredible! Dragons and magic, just like in the legends!"
Sansa, ever the dreamer, looked thoughtful. "I wonder what it's like in Valyria, and if Aunt Elaena will tell us more about their history and customs."
Torrhen, usually reserved, seemed intrigued; his eyes gleamed with curiosity. "For years, I've read about Valyria and its mysteries, and now that I have a Targaryen aunt, I want to learn even more about that ancient land and its enigmas."
Robb, the responsible eldest, nodded in agreement. "Indeed, there's so much we can learn from her. Having Aunt Elaena here is a great opportunity for us."
Eddard and Catelyn exchanged amused glances, knowing that their children's curiosity had been sparked by the newfound knowledge. They were now ready to embrace a world where dragons and ancient legacies were no longer just tales from history books.
10 days after, Valyria. Targaryen Manse 298 AC
Aelora Balaerys and Jon Connington observed as the Targaryens slowly arrived at the meeting they had been summoned to attend. Viserys and his niece, Rhaenys, who was also his betrothed, entered the room hand in hand, taking their prominent seats at the head of the table as the eldest members of the family. Following shortly after, Aegon returned from his advanced fire magic classes. Finally, Daenerys and Alyssane made their entrance, accompanied by their best friend, Vaella Balaerys, who was also Aelora's niece. The three young women were escorted by Ser Jorah Mormont and Ser Willem Darry.
Aelora noticed Vaella, Daenerys, and Alyssane, noticing the slight glisten of sweat on their faces. She inquired, "How are your combat classes progressing?"
Ser Willem responded, looking proud of the three young ladies, "They have improved significantly, both in Valyrian and Westerosi combat styles."
Daenerys smiled at Ser Willem and then turned to Aelora and Jon Connington, "Although I wasn't initially drawn to these classes like Alyssane and Vaella, who seem to have a natural affinity for combat, I must admit that over the past six years, they have helped me gain confidence in myself."
"Well said, little sister," Viserys chimed in, looking at her with pride.
Once all the attendees were seated in their respective places, Aelora began her presentation, "The purpose of this meeting is something of utmost importance that I must share with all of you."
Aelora turned to Alyssane and said, "Alysanne, your mother, Elaena, has returned. She is currently back south of the Wall, in Mole's Town."
Alyssane, with tears in her eyes, exclaimed, "My mother has returned." Ser Willem Darry approached her and placed a comforting hand on her shoulder, saying, "She's back, my little Alyssane." Alyssane stood up from her seat and hugged Ser Willem, overcome with happiness.
During the next hour, Aelora and Jon Connington detailed the reappearance of Elaena Targaryen and her husband Benjen Stark after being beyond the Wall for eight years.
Viserys, Rhaenys, Aegon, Daenerys, and Alyssane had known for many years the reason why Elaena had traveled to Westeros ten years ago, as well as the contacts she had made with the Night's Watch, her marriage to Benjen Stark, and their encounters with Leaf, a Child of the Forest. Aelora Balaerys and Jon Connington had taken it upon themselves to inform them of every detail.
Aelora and Jon believed it was essential, especially for Aegon, as the rightful heir to the Iron Throne, to be fully aware of all the details. They wanted him to understand the complexities of his family's history, the significance of their alliances, and the potential threats they might face. Aegon's knowledge and understanding were crucial for the future of House Targaryen and their ambitions in Westeros. Therefore, they had carefully shared all the information with him and his siblings, ensuring they were well-prepared for the challenges that lay ahead.
Aegon, restless upon hearing about the possible threat from the North and the awakening of the Others, asked, "Lord Jon Connington, as Hand of the King for my grandfather and now as my Hand of the King, what do you advise we should do now?"
Jon Connington replied "Your grace,My wife and I plan to go to Winterfell in about two or three months to meet with Elaena, her husband Benjen Stark, Lord Eddard Stark, his wife Catelyn, Lord Commander Mormont, and Maester Aemon Targaryen, to discuss this matter and others,"
"Why in Winterfell? And why will Lord Eddard Stark and his wife Catelyn participate in this meeting?" Ser Jorah Mormont asked cautiously, observing everyone present. "Lady Aelora, wouldn't it be wiser to hold the meeting at Castle Black, with whom you have had a friendly relationship for some years now?"
Aelora smiled at Ser Jorah and said, "Your observation is prudent, Ser Jorah, and I appreciate your advice. But there is one last detail I haven't mentioned." She paused enigmatically before continuing, "The lost Targaryen child has appeared."
Upon hearing this, Daenerys gasped, "The dark-haired boy of my dreams," saying it to herself. Daenerys noticed Alyssane and Vaella smiling at her, and she blushed before turning her attention back to Aelora.
Aelora continued,"He is a fifteen-year-old boy who, until just a year ago, lived in Winterfell as Lord Eddard Stark's illegitimate son."
"Jon Snow?" Ser Jorah asked with astonishment.
"Yes, Ser Jorah," Aelora confirmed. Intrigued that Ser Jorah knew of Jon Snow's existence, she inquired further, "Ser Jorah, how do you know about Jon Snow?"
"Lady Aelora, throughout Westeros, especially in the North, the fame of Lord Eddard Stark and his honor is well known. When it was revealed fourteen or fifteen years ago that the honorable Eddard Stark had a bastard son, it became a topic of conversation across the North," Ser Jorah explained.
He paused for a moment and then continued, "I believe I understand why Eddard concealed Jon Snow's identity. If Robert Baratheon or Tywin Lannister had known about the existence of that child, they might have sought to have him assassinated."
Daenerys, deeply impacted by this revelation, asked, "Aelora, you mentioned that Jon lived in Winterfell until recently. I'd like to know where he currently resides."
"Jon joined the Night's Watch a year ago," Aelora replied. "We decided to hold the meeting in Winterfell for two reasons. Firstly, we wish to take the first steps towards an alliance with House Stark, a connection that began eight years ago with Elaena and Benjen's marriage. Secondly, Elaena and Benjen insisted that it be Lord Eddard himself who reveals to Jon Snow that he is not a Snow, but a Targaryen."
After conveying this information, Aelora turned to Aegon and said, "Aegon, as the legitimate King of the Seven Kingdoms, I consider it crucial that you accompany my husband Jon Connington and me to Winterfell. It is vital that you get to know the great lords of Westeros and earn their trust."
Aegon nodded, recognizing the significance of the journey. "I understand, Aelora. I will go with you," he said resolutely.
Rhaenys, his sister, stood by his side and added, "Aegon and I both want to go for an additional reason. Our brother Jon needs us."
"Alyssane, still teary-eyed with joy from the news of her mother's return, said, 'Aelora, I want to go too. I want to see my mother and meet my stepfather."
Daenerys, although her heart raced at the thought of seeing the boy from her dreams, kept her emotions composed and said, "I agree with Aegon and Rhaenys. Count me in too."
Vaella, ever the adventurous one, spoke up excitedly, "Aunt Aelora, I want to join as well! I want to accompany my friends, Daenerys and Alyssane."
Aelora nodded, pleased with their determination, and turned to Viserys, the eldest among them. "Viserys, you will stay here in Valyria to manage the Targaryen family affairs. I trust in your wisdom and leadership during the absence of the rest of your family," she said firmly. She then continued, "You also know that you have the support of my family, the Balaerys."
Viserys, who had always been protective of his siblings, nodded with a sense of responsibility, "You can count on me, Aelora. I will take care of things here."
With the decision made, Aelora's mind was set on their journey to Winterfell. It was not just a reunion with Elaena and Benjen; it was also an opportunity to strengthen the Valyrian freehold position and prepare for the unknown challenges that lay ahead.

Finally, a response arrived. Eddard Stark penned a cordial letter in return, expressing his gratitude for the proposal and acknowledging the potential benefits of an alliance between their houses. He agreed that it would be a wonderful opportunity for their children to meet and get to know each other.
Olenna's face lit up with delight as she read the letter to Mace. "It seems Eddard Stark is open to the idea. Now, we must plan a visit to Winterfell. I want Margaery to meet Robb and see if they are compatible."
Mace nodded, "I shall arrange the necessary preparations for our journey."
Castle black
In the secluded private quarters of Lord Commander Mormont at Castle Black, Jon Snow and Samwell Tarly stood side by side, unsure of why they had been summoned. Jon, as the Commander's steward, was accustomed to attending him daily, but he couldn't fathom why Samwell had been called as well.
The room was adorned with maps, scrolls, and a cozy fireplace crackling in the background. Lord Commander Mormont sat behind his desk, his eyes shrewd and filled with a sense of purpose.
"Jon, Samwell, I have an important mission for both of you," Mormont began, his voice steady. "In two months' time, we shall depart for Winterfell. I, along with Aemon Targaryen, Benjen Stark, and his wife Elaena, will be visiting your home."
Jon's eyebrows furrowed in confusion. Winterfell had been his home before he took the black, and the prospect of returning there filled him with both excitement and apprehension. But why would Samwell be joining them?
"My Lord, may I ask what the purpose of this journey is?" Jon inquired, trying to make sense of the situation.
"We need to speak with your father, Jon, about several urgent matters," Lord Commander Mormont responded somewhat abruptly.
Lord Commander Mormont's gaze shifted to Samwell, who stood nervously beside Jon. "Samwell, you will be accompanying us because of your knowledge and insight into the ancient texts and lore of Westeros," Mormont explained. " and I believe your presence will prove beneficial."
Samwell looked astounded by the revelation. He had always considered himself an outcast and a failure, but to be chosen for such an important task filled him with a sense of purpose and pride.
As for Jon, although he didn't yet fully understand the purpose of their visit to Winterfell, he keenly sensed that the topics to be discussed in the upcoming reunion were of utmost importance. He grasped the significance of the companions on this journey. Aemon Targaryen, the wise maester, was a venerable source of knowledge and experience. Benjen Stark, his uncle, had returned after many years, bringing with him his enigmatic wife, Elaena.
Two months later Castle Black 298 AC
Everything was ready for the journey to Winterfell. Jon observed as Maester Aemon was comfortably settled in a special carriage, and Lord Commander Mormont was giving the final orders to his fellow brothers of the Night's Watch, who would accompany them to provide protection on the way.
Lost in his thoughts, Jon noticed Benjen and Elaena approaching him. Elaena looked at him with bright eyes and said cheerfully, "Ready for this adventure, dear nephew?"
Jon confessed, "A bit nervous. It's been over a year since I left Winterfell, and this is my first visit since I joined the Night's Watch."
Observing Elaena's gaze on him, Jon wondered, "Who is this mysterious woman? I've only known her for two months, and yet I feel a connection with her that I can't explain. My uncle Ben has been a bit evasive about her origins, but he assured me that many truths will come to light in Winterfell."
Noticing Jon's unease, Elaena placed a hand on his shoulder and reassured him, "Dear nephew, I know you have many questions, but let me assure you that soon, many of them will be answered."
Lord Jorah Mormont was restless, knowing that once the meeting in Winterfell was over, he had to return immediately to Castle Black. The disappearance of three rangers, who hadn't reported in for a month, worried him. One of the rangers, Ser Waymar Royce, led the group, along with two others named Gared and Will. Mormont was concerned that two experienced rangers like Gared and Will had not been heard from. With these thoughts on his mind, Lord Commander Mormont gave the order for the company to move forward to Winterfell.
