The darkening sky laid over the head of a certain greenette wearing a t-shirt and shorts as he sat alone on the bench as a pleasant breeze blew through the air. The stars shined brightly overhead as another sigh escaped his lips.
Midoriya wanted to be a hero for as long as he could remember, but without a quirk of his own, he really didn't have much of a chance. Something that his classmates and peers constantly remind him of every time he states his goal of becoming one, mocking him for his far-fetched dreams.
He still held out hope for it though, for even All Might said that anyone can become one if they try hard enough. Someone who carried out his ideals with his strength and large boisterous smile, someone that he looked up to ever since he saw him rescue numerous people from that disaster on the computer. An act that brought a smile to his face and brought faith in his ideals, even if the task seemed impossible to others.
But for now, he just wanted some time alone as he looked over the playground that he used to play in when he was a child with a forlorn expression. Recalling memories of his time with Bakugo and his peers before the volatile blond got his quirk, a time when they got along and looked up to All Might with awe and wonder while they played together.
Yet just as he sighed again at the turmoil of emotions inside of him, he paused in his musings when he noticed that one star seemed to shine brighter than the others. Making it stand out in the sea of black that occupied it like a lighthouse in a fog.
Midoriya wasn't someone who believed in superstitions all that often, but he figured that it couldn't help to try this one time. Clasping his hands together while looking at the shining beacon with a hopeful expression, before finally making his wish.
"I wish I could be a hero..."
Nothing seemed to occur after he stated his wish to the vast cosmos that decorated the night sky, the silence that occupied the air afterward making him slump down slightly in dry amusement at the notion of a star making his dreams come true. He stood up with a sigh leaving his lips as he began to make his way back home.
Until he noticed something odd about the star he made a wish on.
It only seemed to glow brighter after he made his wish, appearing more like a spotlight rather than something stationary in space. Making the greenette squint at the sudden appearance before finally noticing something that made him stumble back in shock with wide eyes.
It was coming closer.
He panicked when the small luminous ball of light began to spin rapidly with a shimmer as it entered the earth's atmosphere, spinning towards him at high speeds that made him dive to the sides with a startled yelp. Until the object soared over his head and crashed into a nearby bush with a resounding thud, sending a cloud of dust and gravel up around the area.
Once Midoriya finally managed to regain the courage to pick his head up from the ground, he nervously checked if there were any other signs of foreign objects raining down from the sky. Before finally standing on two king feet to make sense of what had just happened.
He knew he didn't really have the greatest luck in his life, but having something from outer space suddenly hurdled towards him wasn't something that he planned on happening today. He shook off some of the remaining dust and dirt on his clothes before making his way over towards the direction of the fallen object with a nervous stance in his gait from the entire ordeal so far.
The search didn't take that long, as there was only one bush that was demolished by whatever object fell from the sky. A small crater formed the base on the ground where the plant once was as something seemed to emit a steady glow. Yet he paused as he considered leaving it alone, seeing that he had no experience dealing with foreign objects from the upper atmosphere and should probably contact a professional.
However, his curiosity about what almost flattened him just barely won over his hesitation, a grimace making its way onto his as he summoned the courage to see what landed.
And blinked when he finally saw the sight of the object lying on the ground.
It was a small star-like creature that was apricot in color, lying on its back with a steady glow around him and a sleepy expression as if it wasn't just hurdling toward Earth like a comet. Its slightly plump stature made it seem nonthreatening as Midoriya inched forward to get a close look at the new specimen. Reaching a shaky hand out to the small extraterrestrial in an attempt to make contact.
Unfortunately, that was when the unknown creature started to shift and rise, startling the green-haired teen backward on his butt with a yelp as the creature rubbed its sleepy eyes with its two small arms and started to float slightly above the ground with a yawn escaping him. Its eyes peered open as two pools of black looked around the area in a daze.
"...Mama?" the star-like creature asked in worry before panic started to set in. "M-Mama!? Mama, where are you?!"
The teen panicked at the sudden outcry, looking around nervously to see if there was anyone in the area that was there to witness this extraterrestrial shouting in a state of panic as he didn't really know what to make of a being from outer space calling out for some mother. Yet if there was one thing that he knew that a hero must do is to look out for in an individual when in a time of stress. And while he didn't know what this creature was, what he knew so far about this little star creature was that it needed help.
"H-Hey, it's ok! It's ok!" Midoriya reassured the little creature who seemed to act like an infant as best he could even when it squirmed and panicked above the ground, the teen grabbing after a moment of hesitation so that it stopped moving. "It's ok! I will help you to your mama."
The star creature stopped and stared into Midoriya's bright green eyes, feeling comforted by the gesture as it ceased all panic and settled into the arms of this stranger. Looking up at the teen with a hopeful expression in its eyes.
"R-Really?"
"...For sure," the greenette hesitantly smiled as he looked down at the odd little creature with soft eyes and a small laugh seeing that it no longer worried about its current state, a gesture that it seemed to like. "W-Who is your mama anyways?"
The small star-like creature pondered on how to answer the question, seemingly trying to get its thoughts into order when something seemed to catch its attention above them. Something that caused it to leap out of Midoriya's arms and gesture toward the sky once more in excitement.
"There!"
The teen turned to where his new friend was pointing and gaped as a new object started hurdling through the atmosphere. A large and massive structure that rivaled the size of most cruise ships as it simmered in a bright light while a fiery inferno covered the outside. Roaring through the sky as numerous star-like objects seemed to fall from its hull and spread out throughout the globe. The ship painted the sky with large streaks of white until the massive structure headed towards their direction and soared above their heads with a deafening roar. Landing a great distance away in a resonating thud followed by a massive explosion. Causing a bright orange light to shine for a moment before thick clouds of smoke started to rise into the sky.
Midoriya's jaw dropped at the scene while the star-like creature gasped in shock at the new ordeal, dropping onto the ground in a hurry as its body glowed for a moment before turning into a rabbit with white star-like fur at the end of its ears.
"Mama!"
The greenette watched in shock as his new companion suddenly bolted from the scene, presumably heading towards whatever new object had just entered Earth in a hurry.
Midoriya took a moment to take in what had just occurred, seeing a new creature from outer space change form and take off towards the unknown spacecraft in a hurry. He hesitates for a moment as he spares a glance in the direction of his home with a grimace as he considers leaving. Yet the look on the creature's face from earlier flashed in his mind once more, and he couldn't bring himself to break his promise after seeing the fear on its face. Even more so when he knew that it probably didn't know where to go due to being in a strange new world.
So with a deep breath, he summoned all the courage he had in him and started to take off after the frightened star with a sprint.
"H-Hey, wait up!"
Bolting down the direction where he last saw it flee, he only had to travel a bit to see that the star had made its way toward the center of town. Startling some people as they looked in the direction of the darting rabbit while others were preoccupied with discussing the massive object that suddenly entered the Earth's atmosphere.
"Did you see that?!"
"What do you think it is?"
"It looked like a comet."
"But what were those things that fell from it?"
"Maybe it's an alien attack!"
"Somebody should call the heroes!"
"Or maybe the army!"
Midoriya grimaced as he heard the conversations going on around him, knowing that he now had a limited window to get the child back to its mother without any major conflict occurring. He looked at the running rabbit with a hint of frustration as he continued to push his way through the gathering crowd with slight unease and discomfort.
"S-Sorry! Excuse me. Coming through."
Thankfully, the people he bumped into didn't pay too much attention to him or what he was chasing. Either only sparing him the occasional glance before looking at the rising smoke in awe and confusion as they tried to make sense of what happened. Taking numerous videos and pictures of the incident and rising smoke as they commented on the entire ordeal.
Midoriya paused when he also took a glance at where the smoke was rising from, recognizing that area where the massive plumes rose from back to his days as a child. Back when he used to hang out with Bakugo and some others before the blonde had manifested his quirk, walking through the forest with matching grins on their faces as they explored the small patch of wilderness.
He frowned at the reminder of their stained relationship but was shaken out of his thoughts when someone else cried out in shock as the rabbit-like creature darted past their legs again. Forcing him to race towards them in a rush before finally getting a hold of his new companion with outstretched arms, holding it in his hands firmly even as he gained some odd stares around him while the rabbit shook and squirmed in his arms.
"Stop it, Greeney! I need to find my mama!" The star child wailed in his arms as it continued to squirm and twist in an attempt to escape his grasp.
Greeney?
Midoriya had no time to wonder about the new nickname that he was given by his companion as he doubled in his efforts to keep the creature in his arms. An act that he barely managed to accomplish due to the constant movements and the whispers around him. Until he finally mentioned something to the rabbit that made him stop dead in its arms.
"I know where your mama is!"
Luma's eyes widened as it stopped its attempt to escape and turned to look at the boy in confusion, doubting his words for a moment. Yet the kindness that was held in his deep green eyes made him falter because it reminded him of someone else who had the same expression whenever someone was in trouble.
Its mother.
It took a glance at its surroundings and finally saw the odd expressions that other people had on their faces. A gesture that made him shrink in the boy's arms as he realized that he had never seen these kinds of people before, even through the numerous stories that its mama told him about the Galaxy. Going through an unknown world with people that he didn't know would only get him more lost, so with a shaky nod as it reigned in its tears with a sniff, it trusted the odd, green-haired human to take him to his mama as he promised earlier.
"...O-Ok."
The soft-spoken voice from the child-like being made Midoriya sigh in relief as he finally stood up with a sheepish laugh, apologizing to the others around him before making his way towards the forest where the smoke was rising with haste. Going on a path that he knew led out of the city and had very few people in the way to prevent any more unwanted attention. Following the massive plumes of smoke that rose through the vast wilderness even as Midoriya had bittersweet memories from childhood reappear. Crossing over the same river where Kacchan knocked his hand away, refusing his help after the blonde had fallen.
Yet the greenette continued onwards at a steady pace despite these thoughts, only pausing for a moment when he saw something glowing off towards the side, a faint thumping sound emitting from the ground as something large continued to pound on a large grey boulder. Making him and his star friend falter for a second before the teen noticed another sight. An area where trees were torn or uprooted from their spot as a deep crater tore up the landscape by whatever sort of structure crashed onto their planet. Leading its way several yards into a clearing that had an almost bright glow. Where a loud and encouraging voice seemed to ring out.
"Good job everyone, I think we're almost there!"
The sound of a woman's kind and elegant voice seemed to ring out in the path ahead of them, making the glowing rabbit in his arms perk up before leaping out of his hands and charging to the bright, glowing area with an excited and delighted cry.
"Mama!"
Midoriya was left behind as he watched the small rabbit disappear into the path ahead of him, wondering if he should follow along or just head back home.
On one hand, he had completed his task of reuniting the creature back to his so-called 'mother', even if he wasn't there to witness the reunion. Plus, he had no idea what kind of extraterrestrial landed on their planet, making him worried if they were here for world domination or any other nefarious purposes despite the carefree nature of the being he helped.
Yet the image of the small star-like child panicking in the park and the city suddenly bounced back in his mind again, causing him to swallow nervously as he reluctantly followed his new companion towards the glowing area with uneasy steps. Briefly wondering what kind of extra creature this 'mama' was and what it wanted now that they were on his planet.
"Good job everyone, I think we're almost there!"
Rosalina turned away from the Lumas after her words of encouragement and bit her lip in anxiousness as she guided numerous power stars back to the beacon of their spacecraft with the help of her wand, which only flickered briefly no matter how many they seemed to scavenge from the surrounding area. The Lumas all helped by passing the small glowing fragments to one another and guiding them into the center of their spacecraft, all unaware of their mother's distress building underneath her.
Meanwhile, the Toads were busy gathering their own supplies that were disorganized from the crash. Stacking numerous power blocks onto one another in a large pile safely while their captain ordered them to work at a steady pace as they also organized the power-ups they took. With a blue one with thick glasses checking in on the damage that was done to their mushroom-like spacecraft from the sides with a clipboard.
The space princess briefly turned away from the scene and frowned to herself over the predicament they were in, as she had no idea where exactly they were in the galaxy. Never recalling a planet with these kinds of forests or the tall structures that she saw when she was guiding the Observatory during their crash landing before. She took a glance at the sky once more to view the stars of their position in the universe before shaking her head and focusing back on the task at hand.
Another pit of worry and guilt was also on the luma that was currently missing, who somehow managed to slip past her during the initial descent on the planet when they first entered the wormhole. A mistake on her part when she had to reinforce their mode of transport from breaking apart further with both hands in a state of frenzy. A feat that nearly made her tear up when she realized that she had left one of her own during a time of crisis, yet knew she couldn't leave the rest of her children without any protection. Not when their home was in this ruined state with several buildings and domes in the observatory cracked or missing. A vast contrast to the bright and vibrant home that once housed them for so many years.
Yet despite all these obstacles and problems, she remained strong so as not to cause any more unnecessary stress to her children and her passengers. Who were still worried about a sudden attack from the Koopa King showing up even as they helped her out, a fear that was also in the back of her mind even if she didn't show it.
"So close, yet so far..." Lumalee sighed in displeasure as she slumped onto the ground and stared back into the dark night sky. Upset that their spacecraft didn't go down in a final blaze of glory.
"Lumalee, what did we say about those kinds of comments?" Rosalina politely chided the star child even as she kept her eye on the beacon ahead of her.
Another sigh was heard from the bright blue luma as she floated upright, levitating above the ground with a pout and crossed arms after hearing her voice.
"If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all."
"That's right." Rosalina smiled softly the Luma's correct answer before gesturing to the other star-like creatures around them, "And I would appreciate it if you helped us gather the power stars for our departure, we could really use the help."
"...Ok."
Rosalina watched the reluctant bright blue luma join its siblings to find the various power stars that were scattered in the area. Which were found on the ground or lodged in various other objects such as trees and rocks. The star-like children passed them to one another until they reached a pile beside her so that she could implement it into the Observatory's core.
She turned away from the hard-working lumas for a moment to talk to Polari, who was counting the pile of glowing space fragments with a frown. A feat that didn't reassure her and their chances of escape.
"Polari, is it possible for us to get the Observatory up and running?"
The dark-colored luma rubbed the top of his head uncertainly as he finished the ever-increasing count of power stars. A sorrowful look was made on its face as it turned to the space princess in disappointment.
"While these power stars will provide us enough power to fix up parts of the Observatory and some energy usage, I'm afraid that without a Grand Star, we wouldn't be able to leave the system or the planet's orbit."
Rosalina frowned in disappointment at the news, knowing that they were pretty much stuck without the addition of the large fragment in their inventory. Taking another quick glance at the stars above for a sign of their current location before coming up empty once more. Leaning down slightly to whisper another question to her advisor so as not to panic the others around that were trying to get them off this planet.
"...And any sign on Bowser?"
Polari only frowned at the name before it also looked at the starry night sky for a moment and turned to Rosalina with a knowing look on its face.
"...I'm sure that he would already be here by now if that were the case."
Rosalina held her gaze with Polari for a moment before sighing in acceptance, knowing that the idea had some merit given how closely the Koopa King and his army were on their heels during the escape. Taking that small piece of good news with grace given the amount of stress already on them right now, she raised the wand in her hand to guide the power stars back to the core once more.
Yet as she started lifting several fragments above the ground, she perked up when a familiar voice called out to her from the woods surrounding them.
"Mama!"
She and the others paused at the delighted cry, turning to see the apricot-colored luma in rabbit form appear out of the woods with a joyful expression on its face. Rosalina released a sigh of relief as he jumped into her arms and shifted back to its normal form, complete with arms and legs.
"Hello darling, I'm glad that you're safe." the space princess stated with audible relief in her voice before a guilt-ridden frown made its way onto her face. "I'm sorry that I lost my grip on you during our descent. But I'm glad that you managed to find our way back all your own."
"That's ok Mama," the star-like creature reassured its mother with glee before it corrected her statement. "But I didn't get here on my own, I had help from a Greeney!"
Rosalina blinked at the name, not recalling anyone or anything that had that kind of title during their travels.
"A Greeney?"
Rosalina repeated the name curiously as she followed the luma's excited gaze towards the area where he emerged from and was surprised to see a teen with a messy lock of green hair arrive with a stumble, taking a wide-eyed look at his surroundings once he saw the scene around him. The lumas and Toads that were nearby stopped whatever work they were doing to look at the new arrival in surprise and curiosity, making the green-haired person squirm in nervousness and anticipation at the newly-founded attention.
She watched the Luma that returned jump from her arms and float towards the greenette with a giggle, grabbing a hold of his hand with its own and guiding him past the numerous other residents that were staring at him. Until he brought the new arrival face to face with her while joy danced in the star creature's eyes, happy to show off the new individual like one would show a drawing.
"This is him, Mama! This is the one that helped me!"
Rosalina watched the teen startle at the declaration as he did a double take on her person, looking up and down at her in bewilderment and confusion. The expression almost made her giggle as she took notice of his attire of a simple t-shirt with an odd saying, shorts, and bright red sneakers. Yet the thing that caught her eye the most was the aura he carried himself with despite the nervousness he demonstrated. A great desire to help the others around him no matter what stood in his way, a sense of duty to help others in need no matter how hard or though the situation may become. A trait that reminded her of another that helped her in a time of need.
A trait that reminded her of Mario.
Rosalina shook those thoughts away for the time being as she turned her attention toward the new arrival with a smile. Looking down at him even though he seemed to be shaken up by the odd situation he found himself in.
"Thank you for returning Luma back to me," she started off kindly to reassure the teen's worries, "I was getting worried about his whereabouts when we first arrived."
"I-It's no problem," the green-haired teen said with a nervous smile as he looked up at her due to the height difference, "It helped that he didn't land too far away from me when it happened..."
Rosalina smiled at the reassurance coming from the other teen, even as he shifted uneasily due to the increased attention coming from the numerous lumas around him. The colorful star-like creatures looked at him in curiosity and wonder as they and the Toads started to abandon their work to see the new visitor.
"T-That being said though," the teen said as he looked around him uneasily, "just who are you guys?
The space princess blinked for a moment before a soft laugh made its way past her lips, realizing that she had forgotten to introduce herself and the others before thanking him. An act that caused some of the other lumas to smile as well.
"My name is Rosalina, and I watch over and protect the cosmos," she said before gesturing to the other creatures around them with a smile. "And the beings that you see before you are my children, the Lumas."
She watched as the teen balked at her introduction and the sheer number of Lumas on their starship, a gesture that caused her to release a soft giggle of her own before gesturing to the Toads that approached her as well.
"And these are some Toads from the Mushroom Kingdom, they help me sometimes gather materials and power stars for the Observatory."
The teen had turned towards where the four different colored Toads approached him, stopping whatever task they were working on to meet him in person. The Captain stepping forward and gave the new arrival a handshake, even if he still had the headlight on his head.
"Pleased to meet you!" the captain struck his hand out with a smile even as he continued to carry the heavy backpack behind him, "I'm Captain Toad, leader of the Toad Brigade."
"N-Nice to meet you." The teen responded back in kind even if he did look a bit surprised by their appearance. Taking it all in with a shaky smile even as the next Toad came to introduce himself, a blue Toad that wore a thick pair of glasses, who fiddled the accessory for a moment before taking a close look at the greenette.
"Huh, didn't think we'd meet another one."
Rosalina watched the odd look that crossed the greenette's face even as he shook the hand of the resident of the Mushroom Kingdom with a bit of hesitation. Making his way through the other members of the Toad brigade one by one with as much grace as one could by meeting someone off-world, meeting the green one involved with accounting and the purple one that handles mail and messages, until...
"There's one more in our crew," Captain Toad said as he looked around the area for a moment for the final member, "Now where was he last?"
"Zzz..."
They all turned to the last member of the Toad Brigade, a yellow Toad who was snoring the night away near the mushroom-shaped ship even after going through a crash landing. Only snorting for a moment before rolling over and falling back to sleep.
They all chuckled at the sight even as the captain face-palmed in mild amusement, the lumas giggling at the sight of the floundering Toad alongside the at-ease teen. The odd tension in the air lessened for a moment as Rosalina turned back towards the green-haired teen after all the introductions were done.
"Now then, I don't think we have heard your name yet," Rosalina said to him with a kind smile, who was startled at the sudden attention.
"I-Izuku Midoriya."
Rosalina smiled at the introduction, with the apricot-colored luma beside her looking at Izuku with a sense of fondness and acknowledgment as it finally put a name to its savior. With Midoriya giving a brief smile at the reaction of the other lumas at the mention of his name before he took a sight of their group as a whole, surprise still evident on his face as he shifted between the numerous Lumas and Toad before finally facing her again.
"N-Now if you don't mind me asking," the teen started off uneasily at his sudden questioning, "How did you get here? I'm sure you guys didn't plan to crash your spaceship."
A frown made its way onto Rosalina's face remembering the predicament they were in, the once joyful atmosphere turning solemn as a sigh left the princess' lips.
"We didn't mean to crash on your planet, but we lost power to our home when we were escaping from someone terrible. Someone who has been following us for quite a while now stealing our power source, power stars."
Rosalina watched Midoriya frown at her choice of words, looking at the numerous power stars they were scattered around them with an odd look like he didn't know what she was talking about. Before facing her again with confusion before asking another question.
"Someone terrible? You mean like from a villain?"
The question from the teen caused some of the nearby lumas to huddle beside her in an act of worry and fear, remembering the being who made them crash in the first place. The Toads not doing any better as they looked around frantically for any sign of their tormentor while the captain tried to keep a brave face.
Rosalina quickly calmed everyone down before they got too out of hand, turning to their new companion with a troubled look on her face as he watched the scenario unfold. Debating for a moment before casting a large image of the Koopa king and his fleet for the new arrival to see after seeing that everyone was calm.
"His name is Bowser," Rosalina said with a frown even as the inaudible image of the giant reptile seemed to laugh out at her while he commanded his army, "And they have been chasing us for many weeks stealing our power stars, causing us to slowly lose power. Yet no matter how many times we try to escape his grasp, he always seemed to find us."
"We lost the last of our power stars before we crashed," Polari added in from beside her, "So now we are stuck unless we find a grand star."
Rosalina watched the troubled and conflicted look that crossed the teen's face as he took in the sight of Bowser and his army, a sentiment that she could get behind after trying to escape his grasp.
"A Grand Star?"
Rosalina cast another image with a wave of her wand seeing the confusion, showcasing the sight of one of the Grand stars for him to see. The giant star fragment being a source of extraordinary power if given to the wrong hands.
"These are used to power up the Observatory seen around you, our home," Rosalina said sadly as she took sight of the ruined buildings and domes that were around. "And while we have found plenty of the smaller power stars for us to use, we cannot leave this planet without a Grand Star in our possession."
The new announcement made the lumas around startle in shock, seeing that their home wouldn't go back up into space again anytime soon without a power source. A sense of sorrow and sadness filled the air as the lumas slumped down while the Toads sighed in disappointment.
Rosalina hated to be the bearer of bad news, but she knew that she couldn't keep that kind of information to herself for very long given the state of progress. Already thinking of ways to ease the disappointment around, maybe she should see if she could make her famous star-bit cake to-
"...I think I found one."
Everyone's attention snapped towards the green-haired teen in such a hurry that it sent him stumbling back for a moment. Some lumas and Toads gasped in shock while the space princess stepped towards the teen with pursed lips and a small feeling of hope started to grow inside her.
"Found a...?"
"A grand star," the teen said confidently before an uncertain look grew on his face. "O-Or at least I think I saw one. I don't know for sure, but I know I saw something glowing on the way here andheardasound-"
Rosalina made her way up towards the teen even as strings of mutters sprouted from his lips faster than she could understand, her one visible eye shimmering with anticipation as she gently grabbed both of his shoulders to look him in the eye. Jolting the greenette out of his stumble as they locked eyes with one another.
"Can you show me where it is? Please..."
Rosalina was aware that she used that word a lot when talking to her lumas, whether it be to ask for something that was out of reach or to teach them manners. Yet it has been a long time since she used that word with so much hope and pleading in her tone of voice. The last time she recalled was when their Power stars were stolen from Bowser the first time, and she requested help from another.
Help that came in the form of Mario.
The Lumas could tell how important this was too, as they and the Toads silenced their voices as they watched the interaction from the sidelines. Wondering what the green-haired teen would say to the princess' request.
Yet to the surprise of them all, they watched his worry and discomfort fade away as he took in the sight of Rosalina and the numerous residents that he was introduced to. The uneasy expression and posture melting away into a firm of determination as he locked eyes with the princess.
"Ok."
The Lumas all perked up at his response while Rosalina released a sigh of relief, smiling at the teen with gratitude as she once again stood at full height and looked down at him with a thankful expression on her features.
"Thank you," the princess said with a smile before turning to her advisor and the leader resident of the Mushroom Kingdom. "Captain Toad, Polari, please keep an eye on our home until we return."
"You got it!" The captain said with a nod and a salute as the dark-colored luma nodded in understanding.
Rosalina returned the gesture before turning towards Midoriya with an eager look in her eye, holding the wand across her front even as several Lumas started to float towards her with similar expressions.
"Well, Izuku." Rosalina said as she floated a few inches above the ground, "Lead the way."
Rosalina was no stranger to exploring new and uncharted territories since it came with the duties of watching over the vast cosmos, a duty that she carried out ever since she was a little girl.
Yet as she floated behind the green-haired teen curiously through the dark forest, she couldn't help but take in the strange new environment where she found herself. Which was similar to what she had seen before in many ways, yet also so different in others. Like those odd, shaped buildings that reminded her of New Donk City, or the numerous stars that painted the skies above. Seeing several constellations that she was familiar with while also having those that were not, including some that were missing altogether that made her want to shake her head in frustration.
Yet these kinds of thoughts were on the back of her mind as she followed Midoriya, with several different colored Lumas following along while the Apricot one floated beside the greenette with a sense of wonder and curiosity. Seeming to have taken a liking to their new companion due to his assistance in getting them home, a gesture that she found heartwarming even if it did remind her of a certain plumber with overalls.
She could also tell that the teen was unable to make sense of her powers whenever she first started to cast images, even more so when she started floating above the ground. A feat that she knew not everyone took likely whenever they met her for the first time, making her wonder what Midoriya thought of her.
These musings were put to an end when the green-haired teen paused at the sight ahead of them, a deep ravine that looked too treacherous to walk on. A deep impact was made on one side as something scraped along the edge, removing a vast amount of dirt and rocks in its wake that fell into the ditch.
Yet even through all of that, a faint yellow glow can be seen pulsing through the bottom of the revenue with a deep and slight thumping sound hitting something at the bottom. Something that caused her and the lumas to quicken their pace as they felt the familiar sensation of a grand star ring throughout the area, a feat that they were used to after being around them for so long.
It was only when she floated a couple of feet off the edge and peered into the trench below that she was able to confirm it. Causing her to hitch her breath in excitement while the other Lumas gasped in both shock and excitement at their new findings.
For at the bottom, the sight of a Grand Star struggling to rise was seen as a massive boulder resting on top of it while mounds of dirt and rocks covered most of its appearance.
"I-I didn't get a chance to check it out when I first saw it," the green-haired teen said anxiously while rubbing the back of his head, unaware of the shock and dismay of the others around him as the silence continued on. "But I realized it was something important after seeing the other stars you had so-"
"You found it..."
Rosalina didn't see the flinch that Midoriya had when she uttered those words of disbelief, even more so when the luma he found started to dance excitedly beside him as confusion started to peer through his emerald, green eyes.
"Found the...?"
"The grand Star!" Rosalina said in audible relief and joy as she cast her wand on the numerous rocks and dirt below, removing the obstruction from the star with ease as the massive star swiftly rose above her head in a powerful shroud of light. "You found it!"
Cheers erupted from several of the lumas that had traveled along with her, the various colored star creatures holding their knob-like hands with each other as they danced around the large, glowing star. Singing numerous different praises and cheers of their search being completed.
"They found it!"
"We actually found one!"
"We're going home!"
Rosalina watched them dance and play with glee as a laugh of her own managed to escape her lips, feeling hope for the first time ever since they tried to escape the clutches of Bowser. Having spent so much time hiding and fleeing from the Koopa king left them stressed out and uneasy, but now they had hope that things would get better even if it was just a start.
And it was all because of Midoriya.
Rosalina's gaze lingered on the freckled teen for a moment, his shock turning into a small yet prideful smile only making her own grow wider. The sound of the lumas' laughter only made her heart swell with joy, finally being able to put what troubles they had behind them-
"I think I heard something over there!"
The group all startled at the call of another far-off in the distance, causing all the Lumas to stop their dance while Rosalina squinted at where the sound was coming from. Floating beside Midoriya to see several streams of light peer through the numerous trees that littered the forest, with several blue and red ones flashing repeatedly behind them in the distance.
"More visitors?" Rosalina asked out loud with a raised eyebrow, seeing several other men and women of all shapes and sizes approaching them in blue uniforms. Being guided cautiously by others who were dressed in bright and outstanding outfits, making her tilt her head in confusion but otherwise unbothered. "Maybe we should explain our situation with them like we did with you Izu-"
"You need to leave!"
She was startled at the sound of Midoriya's desperate pleas, who looked at the approaching group of unknown individuals with uncertainty as the blood drained from his face. A feat that didn't help her or the Lumas's nerves.
"But why?" She questioned the boy with a calm expression, even as a feeling of uneasiness started to grow. "I'm sure that if we can just meet them and explain the situation, I'm sure they are more than willing to help us out. Maybe they found other power stars in the area."
"We never had visitors from outer space before!" Midoriya explained quickly as he gestured to the lumas to come down from the massive power star, which they did even if they watched the conversation between the two anxiously. "While I'm sure some will be kind, I don't know what the others will do if they find you. Since Lumas and power stars don't exist here!"
"N-No Lumas or Power Stars?" Rosalina said uneasily as her world seemed to turn upside down with that single sentence. Since she had always found power stars or Lumas no matter where in the galaxy she traveled to. Glancing the approaching crowd hesitantly whose shouts only started to grow louder. "But I thought-"
"Please!"
The desperation in his eyes nearly made the space princess reel back in shock, seeing how serious he was about not being seen by this group at any cost.
"I don't want them to hurt you or the lumas!"
Rosalina clenched her hand around her wand tightly as she looked between the conflict approaching and Midoriya, feeling unsure about leaving behind this new group of arrivals so suddenly after crashing into their planet unexpectedly and ruining the landscape. Yet that changed when she took in the sight of the Lumas beside her, who looked at her with worry and fear at the hesitation of the two people talking.
The Lumas and their safety meant everything to her, being their mother and caretaker was a task that she didn't take lightly. She did everything in her power to keep them safe and sound until their eventual departure to shape the galaxy by transforming into various objects in space such as comets and planets. So it was only for a moment that she hesitated before nodding in understanding, waving her wand towards the massive star to trail behind them while turning to the frightened lumas around them.
"Ok, let's follow Izuku." Rosalina said with a resolute nod, "I trust your judgment, so everyone head back to the Observatory."
"O-Ok mama."
The lumas didn't hesitate to follow their mother's orders as they quickly bolted back towards their home. Izuku following them quickly with a sprint of his own while Rosalina guided the Grand Star back to the Observatory.
"Over there! I think I see them!"
The aggressive shout from behind made the space princess turn her back for a moment, seeing beams of light starting to point in their direction while shouts of confirmation started to increase. The sounds of helicopters roaring overhead as their searchlights peered through various sections of the forest in search of the new arrivals. Causing Rosalina to increase her pace while also grabbing Izuku with her powers, a yelp escaped the teen as he also started to float in the air and glided through the trees at an alarming rate.
"Keep going little ones! I'm right behind you."
The lumas doubled their pacing with frightened expressions even with reassurance from Rosalina, finally escaping the vast forest behind them and making it to their home. With startled glances and shouts coming from the many residents that remained behind.
"Little ones, what is the meaning of this?" Polari asked in concern at the frightened lumas that appeared and the sounds of the approaching conflict that neared, causing the other star-like creatures that stayed behind to draw near in curiosity. Yet all were silenced when Rosalina also emerged from the forests with a Grand Star trailing behind her along with a wide-eyed Izuku, the serious expression on her face causing them a bit of worry.
"Polari, we are being followed. Please prepare the Observatory for takeoff while I put in the Grand Star."
"Right away," Polari said with a resolute nod after hearing the no-nonsense tone coming from the cosmic princess, floating towards the engine room with haste while the others looked towards Rosalina for guidance.
"Everyone else, gather as many items as you can towards the middle of the Observatory. We need to take off immediately."
Rosalina watched everyone dash around the Observatory in a frenzy, gathering materials throughout the area for future use. The Lumas gathering any stray stars that may have been missed while the Toads gathered the various power-ups that they brought along on their trip. Stuffing the various items into a sack or piling various power blocks on the side.
Meanwhile, she reconstructed some of the domes that were damaged with the use of some of the power stars that were gathered. Repairing the Terrance and the engine room while increasing the strength of the foundation for this trip, hearing the familiar hum of the Observatory come to life.
She took a glance at the greenette beside her and felt bad at the sheer amount of worry and shock that was displayed on his face. Offering a look of sympathy at how their meeting and journey went so far before turning towards the massive star that was behind them, getting a grasp of the massive fragment with her wand before facing the center of the Observatory.
The massive star slowly spun in a circle for a moment before shooting off towards the empty vessel in the middle of the spacecraft, slamming into the empty orb and igniting it as a steady red flame started to emit. Sending power throughout their home as the familiar hum of the engine started to build and the platforms under her feet started to glow.
The Observatory shook for a moment as it started to lift from the ground, its slow ascent due to only one grand star powering the ship as a massive amount of dirt rubble that was attached to the bottom started to crumble away. The unstable kitchen and fountain area of their home also breaking apart and falling off, resulting in resonating thuds on the ground below as a cloud of dust shot up and the ship slowly broke through the tree line as they rose.
Rosalina watched numerous flashing lights finally break through the forest below, appearing underneath them as they slowly started to rise in the sky. Several people in uniforms got out of their vehicles and surrounded the massive crater that they had caused, as well as several people with the power of flight making their way toward their spacecraft.
Seeing the new arrivals gaining traction, she lifted her wand and summoned the bare minimum amount of power needed to make the observatory disappear and increase its accent. Already feeling the spacecraft shimmer and fade away from view and leaving behind startled people and officials that were giving chase. Until the observatory continued to through into the atmosphere, leaving the planet and the shocked new arrivals behind.
Midoriya could admit to himself that he doubted the claim that this Rosalina was some kind of keeper of the cosmos. After all, why has nobody seen her or her spaceship after all this time if she was so important? Not counting the fact that she looked nothing like the 'luma' that he delivered back to her, causing some worry that this was some sort of shapeshifter that took a hold of a human or something.
Those thoughts were dashed when the spacecraft started to lift from the ground and into space.
He didn't think that the spacecraft could handle liftoff given the state that he found it in when he first arrived. Seeing numerous sections of the foreign structure that was cracked or crumbling from the lack of resources and crash. Yet even as the observatory started to rise, he could see pieces starting to fall back into place with the guidance of Rosalina's wand. Pieces of brick and metal fused back into the correct spots as they finally broke through the clouds. Making him fall onto his butt in a state of shock and bewilderment as they continued to rise, the motion causing some discomfort as they reached the skyline.
The other lumas didn't seem to have any problems with the sudden ascent though, cheering alongside their so-called mother in glee and delight. Even the Toads didn't seem too bothered about the sudden movement as they watched the Earth from below.
Midoriya finally managed to pry himself off the ground when the spacecraft he found himself in started to slow down. Taking a glance at the edge to view the empty void of space with a sense of awe as a gasp left his mouth.
He also realized how far away from home he was now, and what his mother might be thinking of his disappearance with a grimace.
Yet he shoved those concerns down for the time being, turning to Rosalina as she finally managed to put the wand down when they reached a red, dusty planet that didn't seem to inhabit any sort of life complete with two polar caps on opposite ends of the planet. Only heightening the fact of her being able to weld the power of the cosmos as he watched her dock her spacecraft around Mars' orbit, the gravitational pull keeping them steady and secure for the time being.
"That should be enough for now," he heard Rosalina say in satisfaction as she finally relaxed her arms with a heavy sigh. No doubt feeling the burden of hiding and avoiding conflict from anyone trying to hurt her or the lumas as she finally took a glance around her home.
He followed her gaze to see the state of the spacecraft that he traveled in and couldn't help but wince when he saw that it was still in ruins from their initial escape from that villain. The crash-landing they made on his planet ruined much of the structures and domes that were littered throughout the area despite the several pieces that were mended back together. With two noticeable ones that had collapsed during takeoff like a grey fountain-like dome and a brick-like kitchenette.
Others like the blue one high above the spacecraft had the distinct hum of an engine, no doubt working to keep the ship stable while a small garden seemed to thrive under the lights of the spacecraft. These seemed to be the only areas of the ship that seemed to have power along with a glowing platform that had a large screen to view.
Yet when he turned back towards the direction from where they rose, he couldn't help but gasp when he got a view from his planet from afar.
Sure, he saw pictures of the planet whenever the topic of space was in school, but seeing the Earth in its entirety with his own eyes really put into perspective how small he really was. Seeing the sight of the vast oceans and continents in full view left him speechless as massive streaks of clouds scattered throughout the globe.
"It's beautiful, isn't it?"
He started at the sound of Rosalina's voice, who was now right next to him as she looked over the world that she just left with a smile. Her tall and elegant stature left him speechless as she brushed her hair gently with a stroke of her hand.
"It reminds me so much of my own. But I must admit that I never seen another one that looked so similar."
"R-Really?"
The greenette watched Rosalina nod with a hum as she stared at the planet they left with a frown on her face, a troubled expression on her face as she turned her attention towards him.
"But I must admit that I am surprised to hear that there are no lumas or power stars, since every galaxy that I've been to has at least a few in its sector. Could you tell me the name of your planet?"
Midoriya blinked at the question as he finally turned away from the sight of his homeworld and looked at the space princess with a hint of confusion. But realized that she probably didn't know this area given how she crash-landed so suddenly, giving the name of his planet with a slight smile.
"It's called Earth."
…
"Earth..."
Rosalina repeated with a frown as her visible eye peered into the planet that they escaped from, the silence from her giving Midoriya some worry as she silently took in the name before shifting to the red one that they were now in orbit of.
"And this one?"
"...It's called Mars."
Rosalina's frown only deepened when she stared at the mentioned planetoid silently, causing all the other Lumas and Toads to fall silent as she hovered her way toward a telescope. The worry that was plastered on her face was evident as Midoriya followed along nervously before she started to peer through the numerous stars that shined throughout the dark void of space.
"I don't recognize any of these stars or planets..."
The princess' mutters caused the nearby lumas and Toads to let loose a gasp of shock, even as Rosalina continued her search to find an object or structure that she was familiar with.
"Where is Good Egg Galaxy?" she fretted with worry, "Or Beach Bowl Galaxy? Or the constellations that form the shapes of lumas and mushrooms? I can't seem to find any of these."
Rosalina finally stopped her search and turned towards Midoriya in a state of slight panic, making him tense in fear slightly at the intense gaze that seemed to bore through her bright blue eye.
"Izuku, what is the name of this galaxy that we are in right now?"
While Midoriya was still wondering about her confusion about what kind of system they were in right now, he could tell that she needed to know the answer for the sake of her sanity. He took only a glance around the starship to see that everyone was waiting for his answer which he answered with a nervous gulp.
"T-The Milky Way Galaxy?"
Rosalina gasped to herself in a rare state of shock as she stumbled backward for a moment before hovering over to a nearby staircase to sit on, causing the other Lumas to rush over to her in a frenzy.
"M-Mama! Are you ok?"
"What is the Milky Way?"
"Do you need help?!"
"What does that mean?"
Rosalina barely heard the cries and worries coming from her star children and the toads as she tried to wrap her head around the situation.
The galaxy is a vast and ever-expanding concept that many struggled to wrap their heads around, yet living and traveling in it for so many years alongside her lumas made her more familiar than most. To the point where she could tell you where a certain planet resided in the universe like the back of her hand. So while a new galaxy that they have never seen before could've theoretically been formed by some unknown luma, that just didn't make sense in the slightest given that Midoriya said that there his world hasn't seen them in their system, even more so with the absence of power stars. Not to mention the absence of any other systems or constellations that were absent in the empty void of space.
Leaving her to draw her own conclusion.
A dark-colored luma gently shushed the other lumas as he floated up to the space princess with confusion and worry as he tried to gauge her reaction to the odd name of the galaxy given by their new companion. Wondering if it was something that he should be worried about for him or the other children on board.
"Rosalina, just what does that mean?"
The space princess finally looked up at the one who called her along with the worried lumas and toads around her as she heaved a heavy sigh, one that was shaky and filled with uncertainty as she laid the wand on top of her lap.
"I think it means that we are not in our universe anymore..."
Uneasy whispers broke throughout the area as lumas and toads talked nervously to one another, not quite sure what to make of this kind of scenario or what that even meant as Midoriya's eyes widened in shock at the revelation.
"A new universe?" Polari repeated with raised eyebrows, surprised to see the princess so stumped on this topic.
"Yes, unless we have entered a part of space that we have never seen before. But I do not think that is the case."
"A fair point." the dark luma conceded as he also didn't recognize any of the stars or planets that lay in front of them so far or during the crash, "Do you think we would be able to get back home?"
Rosalina paused as she took a glance at the vacant void of space with uncertainty, feeling uneasy about their chances due to them not knowing where that wormhole was now. Their sense of direction askew due to the limited resources on hand and the new environment.
"...I'm not sure."
The mood around them turned solemn and depressing, knowing that they were stranded in another place without much hope of bringing them back for the time being. The lumas and toads look on in sadness and worry about what may come next.
"...Well," Polari said after a moment of silence, "At least we are together now. And it all thanks to the help of Izuku."
"...You're right," Rosalina said with a soft smile as she turned to the green-haired teen, who was still reeling from the revelation of them being from another universe. Jolting when she Rosalina rose from her sitting spot and made her way towards him, her elegant form and attire making him nervous even as she was followed by numerous the Lumas.
"I can't thank you enough for your help Izuku," the space princess started with a kind look that made him stumble back for a moment, "If it wasn't for your help, we would've been stranded on an unknown world. And based on your insistence, I take it wouldn't have gone over well."
"Y-Yeah, I'm not sure how the others would react to your presence or the lumas. S-So I thought the best choice was to get out of there as soon as possible."
Rosalina smiled at his reassurance and slightly red face as she turned towards the other lumas, seeing them all safe and sound as they talked to one another or played along with joy and relief.
"I'm grateful for everything that you have done, returning Luma back to me safe and sound and finding the Grand Star for us. Even when you didn't know anything about us, you still chose to help us."
She turned back towards him with a smile on her face, her visible eye simmering with gratitude as she took in everything about Midoriya ever since meeting him. His determination to help them even at the risk of him being caught in the conflict, his kindness towards the lost luma that he returned with haste even when he didn't know what it was. Everything that reminded her of another who shared the same characteristics whenever they were in a time of need.
"Thank you."
Midoriya stumbled back in shock at the words from the space princess, his arms and legs trembling at the smile that Rosalina gave him. Which was so full of honest gratitude that it shook him to his core, his eyes getting blurry in disbelief as numerous cheers came from the star-like creatures beside her.
"Yeah! You're a hero!"
"You saved us!" Another cheered out in glee.
"We couldn't have done it without you!"
Izuku reeled back as the numerous praises coming from the star-like creatures around him increased, the idea of him being someone's savior as foreign as Rosalina was to this universe. Someone like him helping this all-powerful goddess that seemed to control the essence of space at the palm of her hand?
It was ridiculous to even think about.
"N-No, I'm not." Izuku declared with shut eyes as he ignored the surprised look the blonde was giving him along with the lumas and toads, "I'm not a hero. I was just in the right place at the right time."
...
"I disagree," Rosalina stated with a frown as she glanced at the white luma that stared at their new companion with confusion, "You helped luma get back to me safely when you had no obligation to do so. As well as helping us find the Grand Star in our time of need, even if it was just a coincidence."
"N-No I'm not." Midoriya tried to deny as he shook while trying to reign in his tears, hearing the words he wanted to hear for the first time ever since he saw All Might save a group of people from a disaster. Not wanting to break down as the lumas around him continued to cheer from the sidelines while missing the soft look of sympathy coming from Rosalina. "I-I'm not a hero."
"Yu-huh! It's true because Mama said so!" one blue luma cheerfully corrected with excitement with a cheer.
"You saved us!" A yellow one added on in glee.
"Just like the mushroom man!"
Midoriya couldn't take any more compliments from the strange beings as he fell to his knees, his eyes watering with tears that dropped on the floor of the spacecraft freely. His hand clutching his t-shirt as a futile means to ground himself back to reality.
The overwhelming demonstration of emotion startled the star-like creatures and toads who had been cheering him on, their eyes filling with worry and despair at the reaction that they caused. The Apricot one going up to him in a hurry while shaking his arm with worry.
"Mama, he's crying!"
"Did we do something wrong?!"
Rosalina only gave a sad smile as she made her way towards the weeping teenager, the lumas watching quietly from the sidelines with worried eyes as the space princess slowly sat down beside him and placed a delicate hand on the boy's back. Rubbing it gently in a soothing motion as he continued to weep tears of joy, an act that she often did whenever her own lumas were overwhelmed with emotion or feeling down.
"Those words meant a lot to you, didn't it Izuku?"
The only confirmation she got was a nod from the greenette, even as he tried to stop the tears from flowing with gritted teeth. The kind gesture only made it harder to stop his tears as the luma he found stroked his arm reassuringly.
"You are a hero Izuku," Rosalina thought with a sad smile, "If only you could see it for yourself."
Little did she know, that she would help him with that goal much more than she realized.
So I was looking at info for Rosalina for this story and saw that she is as tall as ALL MIGHT?!
