A Human Among Dalmatians: By LukasLazzyy
Chapter 8: Neighbors
After making amends with Dylan, the rest of the day seemed to go by as normal, with all the Dalmatians doing their own thing, whilst the much younger siblings played with their various chew toys, and if I did so much as even stepped on one accidentally and it made a squeak, I would soon find myself in the middle of a literal dog pile.
Right now, I was walking around the backyard, where most of the dalmatians kept themselves occupied with their activities. As I walked, I failed to notice the hole that I was heading towards, but by the time I did, it was too late, I fell down the dug out hole. Luckily, it wasn't that deep, but looking at myself revealed some dirt patches on my arms.
"Lukas!" I heard a voice call out, before Dolly peaked her head through the hole. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah, I'm fine!" I called back.
"Oh, hey Lukas."
I looked over to the source of the voice and saw none other than Diesel, the pup obsessed with digging, poking his head next to me.
"Oh, hey Diesel." I said to the dirt-covered dalmatian.
Suddenly, the end of a jump rope fell into the hole. I looked up and saw Dolly, who held the other end of the jump rope.
"Luk, grab on!" She called out.
"Okay!" I replied, before doing what she had instructed.
It took some time, but sure enough, I was soon out of the hole as I landed on the ground with a thud. I looked over to see Diesel, who had dug himself out, and he was currently a stern talking to by Dylan.
"Diesel, be more careful of where you dig your holes." He said. "You could've hurt Lukas."
"Sorry Dylan." Diesel replied sadly, before walking over to me. "And sorry, Lukas."
"It's okay, Diesel." I assured him. "It's my fault, really. I should've looked where I was going."
"Are you okay, Lukas?" Dizzy asked.
"Do you have an owie?" Dee Dee added.
"No, I'm okay, you two." I chuckled. "Compared to everything else I've been through, that was a walk in the park."
Oops...
"Park"
"Park"
"Park"
The next thing I knew, all the pups were bouncing up and down, repeatedly exclaiming the word "Park" as Dolly and Dylan both had annoyed looks on their faces.
I guess I was still learning about trigger words...
Later that day, Dolly and Dylan had just taken their siblings to the park, leaving me home alone as Doug and Delilah were both at work. They had told me that Doug was a firefighter and Delilah was a nurse, I was surprised that they had jobs in the first place.
In an attempt to entertain myself, I was tossing a tennis ball at the fence, which bounced back into my hand as I repeated this motion of bouncing the ball against the fence. All of a sudden, I threw the ball a little too hard, causing it to go right over the fence and into the backyard of the neighboring house.
Since the fence was too tall, I was unable to look over it, that was until I noticed a nearby chair. I grabbed the chair and put it in front of the fence. Fortunately, the chair was just tall enough for me to pull myself on top of the fence, I pondered for a moment as to how I was going to get the ball without being detected by the residents of the house.
I eventually thought that If I just went over there, got the ball and then came back, the residents of this house wouldn't even sense my presence. With that plan in mind, I hopped over the fence and now found myself in the backyard of the neighbors house as I scanned the area for the tennis ball, eventually finding it stuck in some bushes on the opposite side.
But as soon as I ran over there to retrieve the ball, I heard a muffled voice yell out. "AHH INTRUDER!" The voice sounded very posh and high class.
I looked over towards the house and saw what looked like a tan colored corgi in front of the sliding door, jumping up and down and barking. The corgi had tall ears, a wide head, a small body with small legs and paws and a tiny tail. She also had some girly eye-lashes, a large snout, a mole on her face, and a magenta collar with white studs.
Quickly, I picked up the tennis ball and raced back to the fence, but I was soon met with a problem, how was I going to get over the fence? As I looked around for anything to use as a stepping stool, I heard a new voice from inside the house.
"Clarissa, what's with all the commotion?"
Thinking quick, I took cover behind some nearby bushes, trying my best not to make a single movement. After a moment, I heard the sliding door open and shut as I then heard paw steps. Very quietly, I peaked out of the bushes to see the corgi, who I assumed was called Clarissa walking around the backyard with her snout high up in the air, she was definitely high-class.
"Who's there?" She called out in that same posh voice. "Show yourself."
As I tried my best to keep quiet, I slowly went back inside the bushes, hoping that this corgi wouldn't discover me in my poor hiding spot. After not hearing anything for a while, I thought I was safe, but I was soon proven wrong as I then heard her sniffing around, I forgot that dogs had a great sense of smell.
"Oh, I have you now." Clarissa said, it sounded like she was right in front of the bushes.
Now knowing that I was well and truly caught, I decided that it would be best if I just came out of my hiding spot, that was if Clarissa didn't act aggressive towards new people. I stood up in the bush and looked over to where I thought I heard the voice, but there was no one there, which confused me, did she go back inside the house? If she did, then why didn't I hear her.
All of a sudden, I was tackled by something from behind, or more specifically, someone.
I looked up to see who had just pushed me to the ground and, sure enough, it was Clarissa, looking at me with an expression that made it evident that my assumption was correct, she did act aggressive towards new people, how she even managed to tackle me despite me being twice her height was beyond me.
But before she could do who-knows-what with me, a voice behind us called out in a rather stern posh voice; "Clarissa! What in heaven's name are you doing to that poor boy?!"
I looked over to see a rather short man standing there, I assumed that this was Clarissa's owner.
He had the same hair color as Clarissa's fur, a nose similar to Clarissa's muzzle, the same long eyelashes and even has a similar mole on his right cheek. His attire consisted of a dark purple turtleneck, a black belt, dark brown pants and black high heels.
Strangely, instead of talking, Clarissa let out a series of barks while looking at the man, pointing at me.
"Don't you bark back at me, young lady!" The man lectured, wagging his finger. "Get inside NOW!"
With that, Clarissa got off of me and made her way inside the house with her chin high up in the air as she gave me a disgusted look, before heading back inside. As I got back up on my feet, the man walked towards me.
"I'm terribly sorry about Clarissa." He said sincerely. "I'm afraid she's like this when it comes to new people."
"It's fine." I assured the man with a sigh.
"Say, are you new around her?" He asked. "I don't believe I've seen you around before."
"Oh, yeah, I am." I replied. "I'm visiting London, my name is Lukas."
"I'm Hugo, it's a pleasure to make your acquaintance, Lukas." Hugo said, before giving me a formal handshake.
"Well, I should get going now." I pointed out. "The Dalmatian family will be back any minute now."
"Oh, you live with the Dalmatian family?" Hugo asked intrigued. "They're a rather... interesting family."
"I'll say." I replied with a chuckle as I walked over towards the fence, immediately remembering that I still had no way to get over it.
"Need some help, Lukas?" Hugo asked as she walked up to me.
I nodded in response as Hugo lifted me up and I was able to climb over the fence, adn as we exchanged goodbyes, I soon found myself back in the Dalmatian's backyard.
"Well, that was unexpected." I thought to myself.
