I don't own Twilight. What I own is my character's behavior, personality, background, and the plot of the story.
Author's note at the end of the chapter.
Edward uses his keys to open the front door of Bella's house, but not before ringing the door twice to alert everyone inside. This became their tradition since he moved in. Cece comes running to him a couple of seconds after he locks the door.
"Daddy!" she yells as he picks her up and hugs her close to him.
"Hey there," he murmurs then pushes her bangs behind her ears to see her face and asks her, "What did you do today?" and stares at her as she goes into great detail. He nods along to what she says making all the appropriate reactions to her words and once she signals for him to put her down, he does.
Edward walks to the kitchen and finds Angela steering something on the stove. "Where is Bella?" Edward asks her.
Angela turns to glare at him then states, "She left this morning for a work trip."
"So I got the cinnamon roll for no one," he mutters to himself in dismay the high he felt after leaving Tanya gone.
"Cece and I are no ones? I can truly feel the love Edward."
Edward makes a face before he tells her apologetically, "I didn't mean it that way."
"Yeah. You didn't mean it that way. We are just not the person you want to get in their pants," Angela mutters loud enough for him to hear.
"What is going on?" Edward demands angrily.
He sees the knuckles of Angela turn white as she holds tightly to the counter and refuses to answer him. "I said, what is going on?"
Angela spins around to face and replies, "What is going on is that I was the one who advocated for you when Bella didn't want you anywhere near her kid, but turns out you were only playing the remorseful father so that you could get into her pants and the moment you found another hole to stick it in, you moved on, but because you don't wanna burn the bridge with Bella just in case things don't work out with Maya, now you are showing up with cinnamon rolls thinking that that's all it takes to be in her good graces."
Edward stares at her open-mouthed in shock at what he just heard. He opens his mouth then closes it. He opens his mouth again but nothing comes out.
Angela stares at him with a triumphant smirk on her face for managing to shut him up and turns back to the oven and asks him, "So, when are you going out today? Are you going to leave right after dinner or will you pretend to care and wait for another hour?"
"I am not going out tonight," he states quietly.
Before Angela could react, Cece who was just coming into the kitchen yells in excitement and hugs her dad. Edward looks down in shock. Was he that absent as a father that him spending a night in gets Cece that excited?
Edward looks up and finds Angela giving Cece a sad look, as if pitying her. Edward vows to himself right then and there that he will never let Angela give his daughter this look again.
He bends down and picks her up then tells her, "Of course I am not going out tonight. As a matter of fact, we have a new rule in this house, no one can go out more than once in a week. How do you feel about that?"
She nods her head smiling widely. "Can you stop yourself from going out more than once a week?" Edward demands in a playful tone.
"Yes," she replies giggling and twirling one of her locks.
He places Cece on the ground gently then takes her to clean her hands and when they come back, they find the food waiting for them on the table. They eat in silence that is only occasionally interrupted by Cece's chatter and commentary.
Once done eating, Edward waits until Cece leaves to take a bath and tells Angela, "I am not dating Maya."
Angela spits the water she was just drinking. "What?"
"You heard what I said," Edward replies.
"What in the actual fuck!" Angela exclaims making sure to whisper the last word since Cece has a habit of going back and forth a couple of times before finally starting her bath.
"I figured since my single hood bothered Bella so much, I would pretend to date someone and put her mind to rest," he replies shrugging at the end like it's no big deal.
Angela frowns at his answer and states, "You spend a lot of time with Maya."
"Where is the question?" Asks Edward unsure of what she wants him to tell her.
"Why do you hang that much if you aren't together?" She asks him impatiently.
Edward shrugs as he tells her, "She is fun to hang out with. She doesn't judge me and she is really the only friend I have."
Angela raises an eyebrow at that. "She is the only friend I can hang out with," Edward amends.
"Meaning?" Angela demands and suddenly a thought pops into Edward's head. Angela would have made such a great interrogator.
Edward the back of his neck feeling as if he is being put in the spot, but nonetheless doesn't cower and answers her. "I kind of burnt too many bridges in the past, so Seth is the only friend I have from before Bella returned from Italy, and even he can tolerate my existence to a certain extinct. All of my new friends know this new and updated version of myself. They don't know the kind of a person I was and I would like to keep it that way."
Angela stares at him trying to discern if he is lying or telling the truth. It's clear that whatever trust she had for him, he managed to decimate in the last couple of weeks. Edward ducks his head to escape her stare and look at his feet.
"Tell her about Maya." Edward looks up unsure of what she meant.
"Tell Bella that you and Maya aren't dating."
"But,", "No buts. Bella has been through enough. The least she deserves is your honesty," Angela tells him cutting him off.
He opens his mouth to argue, but this time he is cut off by his phone ringing. "It's Marco. Excuse me. I need to take this," Edward tells her as he looks at the Apple Watch on his wrest and reads Marco's name.
"Is there something new?" Edward asks as soon as he picks his phone off his bed.
"Victoria is in the hospital. James beat the shit out of her. Denali somehow found out that she works for us and told James her to leave him. He is gone. James is gone with Marie."
Hello lovely people,
I really would love to know what you guys think in the review section. Lately I have been feeling like my writing isn't as it was when I was writing Left Behind. I can't put my finger on what exactly is missing in my story, but I feel like something is off with my writing recently. If you have any feedback that you think might help me, please let me know.
Also, sorry for the cliff hanger, but it felt too good to not place it at the end.
Until my next update,
Stay Safe
